    Boss Classic

We stopped for lunch at Boss Dawgz. Hubby had the Chili Boss and I went with the Chicago Style, a classic. The homemade buns are like none other, so fresh and soft, and the fries...chef's kiss. Boss Dawgs has 30+ creative varieties of hot dogs plus specials and also Italian beef, brats and Polish sausage. Their buns are made daily in house from scratch, as is their chili for chili dogs. They have the best fresh-cut fries, too. I highly recommend a visit if you venture to the Chicago west burbs. The owner William is personable and we loved talking to him. He cares about his food and customers.

I apologize for the cliche, but to me this place is indeed "a slice of Americana". [[HIGHLIGHT]]This owner has a very nice set-up. Easy to pull in and out of, a quaint building, and the layout reminds me of an old style drive-up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a very nice day, with a nice group of families enjoying a casual lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Order to go, eat inside, eat outside, it's all good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was my first time here, so I actually let the couple in front of me go first, while I studied the plethora of dog and sausage creations. I decided on the Boss Classic and the Jalapeño Cheddar Brat. The bun was fresh (he takes pride in his buns, which is nice), and the dogs and fries were quite tasty. There are so many options available, that I would feel compelled to try something different on every future visit. Wonderful people and a well organized ordering and assembly process. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I'll be back.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Driving up I already loved the vibe there's lots of outdoor picnic table seating and string lights next to their big sign and I noticed how clean all the tables were.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Stepping inside we started checking out the menu there were so many items that sounded amazing! The owner William was in and he was super friendly and helpful explained the menu all the combo deals and great recommendations. I had to go with the boss beef (a delicious Italian beef sandwich dipped and topped with their flavorful spicy giardiniera) it comes with a generous pile of fries which we opted out of since we also ordered a dawgz combo which includes two signature dawgz fries and a drink. Again went with the recs and was not disappointed! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love this place everyone has as so fun and had a great energy![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'll definitely stop again when I'm back in town

Highlights: & Came for Chicago hot dogs, and Boss Dawgz became my new go-to! & Amazing, amazing service, easily top ten service I received all year (2024) & [[HIGHLIGHT]]Family fun ambiance[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ambiance/Service: [[HIGHLIGHT]]A few weeks before Christmas, it was all decorated. With the kids drawings on display, it had a vibe like someone invited me to their home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sure it's a place of business and i paid money for the food, though the vibe of the place is a familiar hospitality.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I was there, a lady walked in and as soon as she was in the doorway, the owner greeted her by name and asked if she wanted her usual (she did). Food: & Das Brat - so good! It's advertised as "char-grilled" and it was definitely charred. This is on me, though I should have asked for it to be less charred. 4/5 & Maxwell Street Polish - same char-grilled comment as for Das Brat, and overall so delicious. I had been waiting six months for a proper polish sausage and this was so worth the wait! 4/5 & Corn dog - this was one of the rotating items on the menu, though I'd have to say this was a disappointment. Compared to the Boss Classic or the Boss Dawg, it was so small and dry. Skip the corn dog and get a Boss Classic. 1/5 & Boss Classic - it's like a Chicago dog but with added personality and creativity. The Mayo is a great addition. Loved this one! 5/5 & We also got a Old Chicago or Chicago Style. Whichever it was, it was awesome! 5/5

Vegetarian option was perfect. Satisfied my Hot Dog craving. Thanks Boss!

The owner works the counter! Excellent fries which are handcut and double fried. Genuine Maxwell Street Polish dogs. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Indoor and outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great place to bring kids.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean bathroom.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Reasonable prices. Spicy chili. So good.

First time at Boss Dawgs and impressed by the staff! The gentleman that took and made my order was super cool and stayed the chili and buns are made in house! I ordered the Chili Boss hot dog and it was great! The chili had lots of flavor and had a kick to it. The bun was so soft and the homemade French fries that came with the hot dog were delicious! I'll be back to try more!

Boss Dawgz is the perfect place to go enjoy over 20 different types of hotdog! You can either take a single dawg or do a combo of two. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is perfect on a pleasant day. I got the week special which was a Caribbean Boss Dawg. Boss dawg with bacon and charred pineapple! The combo comes with large fries and a drink. Fries are well seasoned and better than fast food restaurant standards. On a side note they have a fun activity to keep the kids engaged. A drawing of the hotdog which kids can color into based on their liking.

Background: It was our son's birthday, MOST of the time, birthday dinners are home-cooked family affairs...his choice this year: Apolis run! We live forty minutes away, and it's worth the ride every time. Our party of seven lined up, placed our orders, and the kitchen got to work. Entrees and sides prepared perfectly, right down to sauce on the side for the seventh entree. It was a pleasure to meet the owner, Mike G. I had the opportunity to thank him for years of great eating. Furthermore, I noticed the sign of a great leader: When it got busy, he jumped in and helped his amazing staff. He leads by example, and it shows. We all had various forms of rice bowls and pitas. Of special note this visit: The sides! The pork and chicken souvlaki are simply divine. The oven roasted Greek potatoes seems like they're right out of your favorite rah-ra's oven. Full of flavor, and mind-blowing. The rice pudding and baklava, as my SIL said, ..."took a 98 point visit and made it a 100 point visit...". My thanks to Mike G. and the amazing staff for a wonderful meal. It was greater than great, and for a family birthday meal, I wouldn't want anything less. Until next time...tk

The lamb chops are also amazing if you are looking for something a little more traditional, but still easy and accessible on the go. Overall, Apolis is consistently delicious, fresh, and one of those places I keep coming back to. Highly recommend!

It was a solid 7, which is why I place it at 3.5 stars. I may be being picky here but it just wasn't to the level of "melt-in-your-mouth" pastrami standards for me. Not to say it wasn't good, because it was perfectly fine. In fact, it's better than most of the pastrami sandwiches I tried in Chicagoland. Maybe it's the fact that I had to bring it back to the office to eat it, and half hour had gone by and pastrami weren't as warm and the Jewish rye had become soggy by the time I took the first bite. I mean, it goes without saying that the sandwich would have been 3 times better had I sat down immediately and had it. Again, all things considered, it was a perfectly good sandwich. One interesting thing was that I had never been to an establishment that included a half sour pickle instead of a normal one and gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. Pickles can be a hit or a miss for me. I like my pickles to be crunch, but some places offer overripened ones that become borderline mushy. Schmaltz's half sour pickle was not overly salty or sour, making it very attractive for me. The more I'm thinking about it, I'm convinced that I'll have to go back and try their #14 Sloppy Paul, which is the corned beef with sauerkraut, which is another favorite of mine. And this time, I'll be sure to dine in and give another review of it to see how much I like them better.

I will REMAIN a Wendy's customer - but I will never-again attempt eating there at breakfast. I've been there several times, bad experiences all around. A change in my life/health resulted in my needing medical treatment 3x a week at 9AM. Wendy's opens early enough to allow me to stop there on the way to the doctors. The restaurant was very clean, well-maintained, and staffed with friendly (if somewhat vapid and disengaged) youngsters. My orders (placed at the counter) were correct and rapidly filled. So far, so good. But the food I was delivered was - in a word - AWFUL. I trued several alternatives. I don't feel like cross-referencing their menu, but some highlights: 1. Maple Bacon Croissant combo. One side soaked in some form of ersatz honey, sticky and smelling of its core chemical compounds. And heat lamp warm - not even hot. Revolting. 2. Breakfast Burrito combo. Not horrible, but what twisted mind thought of Swiss cheese on a burrito? No wonder Mexico hates us. 3. Jalapeño Bacon Egg & Cheese Biscuit combo - respectable, in the sense that all of the core components were visible to the eye. But the quality of the ingredients were in question - they had no "heft" or flavor. 4. How hard can it be to make Hash Browns? Everyone else does it! Instead, Corporate expended tens of thousands of dollars in R&D, trying to make potatoes disgusting (a pretty hard thing to do, if you think about it.) 5. Oh, but there's more. Espying the graphic on the sign for the Jalapeño Spiced Potato's, I gave them a try. Yuk! Helpless overcooked shards of potato husks, glopped together with some sort of sour creamish adhesive, and some peppers dropped on the top to lure the unwary. Summing this up: 1. The quality of the ingredients was POOR. 2. The assembly, presentation, and mess factor was POOR. 3. The variety of breakfast offerings was POOR. There were no offerings which included BEEF. (At Wendy's!!! WTF?!) 4. My whole experience was POOR. This is not what Dave had in mind. C'mon, Wendy's, and tighten ship... or cut your operating costs, open at 10 AM, and save us this misery.
