I loved the flavors and unique dishes, truly a standout from traditional Chinese food. The mapo tofu dip and chips were definitely a highlight for me (5/5). The chips were crispy and the mapp tofu dip had a great saucy consistency and was surprisingly not too spicy. I loved the black sesame creme brulee too, with its rich black sesame chilly base paired with the fleshly blowtorched creme brulee top (5/5). We also got the black sesame noodles and the pork and chive dumplings. Solid choices - beef was tender, noodles were not too sweet or too salty and for the dumplings, the inside was juicy. Noodles and dumplings I'd rate a 4/5, would be nice if the serving size was slightly bigger. Overall not too expensive, came out to around $65-$70 for two people. I enjoyed my time here and would definitely come again to try some of their other dishes! Service was great, and we got a table right away on a Monday night. Order a couple items, beef roll, beef chow fun and sesame noodle: The beef chow fun noodles were amazing, but could use some wok heat! A lot of restaurants have super broken or mushy noodles, the rice noodle had great texture, chew, and hold. The sesame noodle is a bit odd. The beef was tender. The sesame sauce texture is somewhat chalky with nutty taste, I think it's slightly usual texture too, it needs some spice or chili oil to make it taste better. Stumbled across this delicious modern Chinese spot after looking for food in the area on Monday night. While many other restaurants close early on Mondays, Pang is open until 9pm! We tried the spicy beef noodle soup, honey walnut shrimp, and the cilantro pork salad. The favorites were the cold pork salad with a delicious sesame sauce and onsen egg. Came here for a reason, lol! We had to try their black sesame sauce beef noodles and black sesame crème brûlée. Both were really interesting, but the black sesame crème brûlée was definitely the winner! You can really taste the black sesame flavor--it's kind of like a texture between black sesame paste and pudding, with a good amount of creaminess and sweetness. And surprisingly, they torch the sugar right in front of you! It was such a fun touch, and the flavor was definitely unique. I really enjoyed it! I actually wanted to order another black sesame crème brûlée to go, but unfortunately, it's dine-in only. The black sesame sauce beef noodles had a strong black sesame aroma, but once you actually eat it, the flavor doesn't come through as much. The beef was cooked perfectly, but the noodles were way too soft for me. I wish they had a chewier texture because that would've made the dish so much better. We also ordered the truffle oil tofu noodles and beef roll. You can really smell and taste the truffle oil in the tofu noodles, but the noodles were kind of tough and dry. I think a softer, more tender texture would make them much better. The beef roll was good overall, but there was just way too much sauce, and it was too salty. I couldn't even finish the wrap. For a city with a lot of good Chinese food, this restaurant is sadly not it. The place drew us in with its modern decor and menu... and its line, but it was not worth the wait. Came here on a Sunday evening as a party of 3. It took us around 30 min to get a table around 6 or 7 PM. We ordered the following: - Mapo Tofu Chip and Dip (5/5): This was the best thing we got. The mapo tofu is more of like a silken tofu, emulating a creamy dip. You get wonton and lotus chips; absolutely loved the lotus chips. The tofu was delicious too. - Xiao Long Bao (2.5/5): The skin is incredibly starchy and thick. The flavor was also a bit lacking and not enough soup. - Tomato Noodle Soup (3.5/5): Not bad but needs more tomato flavor. Mushrooms needed to be smaller too. Noodles were good consistency. - Dan Dan Noodles (1/5): I could not get over the fact that this had a chocolatey taste. The taste was so odd and nothing like the traditional dish. - Shrimp and Chive Dumplings (2/5): Might as well rename this as chive dumplings. There was barely any shrimp and I even got some without any shrimp at all. The skin was also thick and starchy. We also wanted to get the Black Sesame Noodles but they were already out of it by the time we arrived. So glad I finally got to try Páng! Surprisingly we didn't have to wait at all, though saw some others on the waitlist later. We got to try a good variety of dishes. Really loved the mapo tofu chips n dip concept--such a fun combination, and they were able to serve the pork separately for us since someone in our party didn't eat pork! The tomato egg noodle soup was also delicious and hearty, great soup for the soul. Feeling inspired to make my own. The other dishes were also solid! Started with the yuzu sparkler but just normal sparkling water with subtle yuzu flavor. The mala honey walnut shrimp was unique. Light crust on the shrimp and had a small kick from the mala. Alone it tasted in the saltier side. Had crispy candied walnut. The black sesame noodle was also unique. I'd recommend it if you like black sesame because it is heavy on the black sesame flavor. Nice new modern Chinese restaurant on Irving! The restaurant has a nice interior, bright and well decorated. They have some unique dishes on the menu and a lot of Chinese classics as well. I came at 5:15pm on a Friday as a party of 2 and was seated right away. But I hear the wait can get long if you come during peak dinner time. There were 4 of us, and we ordered a total of 6 dishes to share. - String Beans w/ Parmesan ($16): Seasoned well and I liked the addition of parmesan. There wasn't a lot of parmesan though. I ordered a spicy beef tendon, which was chewy with a Sichuan kick to it. Collagen's good for my joints and my daughter didn't want any, so I had it by myself. We tried Pang on July 9 and it was a very busy Thursday for them. We put ourselves on the QR code list available onsite, and initially said 160 minutes but all in all we ended up waiting about 40 minutes, so don't lose faith! We were a group of four so we're able to try many dishes. The portions were generous and shareable. We had: 1) Mala tofu dip (they were running a promo, so this was free that evening) 2) honey walnut Mala shrimp - delicious, my favorite dish of the night - good fry on the shrimp and good flavor 3) beef pancake rolls - good but those who know the Sunset well would find these in line with what other restaurants serve 4) beef stew with tendon - good flavor but a tad salty so should eat this with rice 5) black sesame noodles - I know this is their signature dish but I didn't enjoy this. I first tried to come to Pàng on a Wednesday only to discover the restaurant is closed that day. Well luckily, I was able to come back over the weekend. The place was super packed, so my friend put us on the waitlist, and at the time, there was only one group ahead of us. After maybe 15-20 minutes we were seated at a small table between others. We took a few minutes to check out the menu and settled on the cucumber salad, Shanghai bok choy, scallion pancake beef roll, and black sesame beef noodles. A waiter came by to take our order promptly, and the foods all arrived soon in quick succession. I felt like the cucumber salad and Shanghai bok choy were very standard for what they were. The scallion pancake beef roll and black sesame beef noodles stood out to me more. The scallion pancake was quite 胖 (pàng) - probably one of the thicccest I've ever had, not thin and crispy like traditional scallion pancakes, but I liked Pàng's take on it. The end piece didn't have much beef, so it was mostly pancake, but the interior pieces were stuffed full. The black sesame beef noodles were the star of the show, or in our case, table. My friend and I kept reaching for more of these yummy, gooey, savory noods topped with thinly sliced beef. If I could recommend just one thing, it would definitely be this dish. My friend remarked that Pàng's food feels homecooked and established in the neighborhood even though the restaurant is currently in soft launch, and I agree with him, as it totally encompasses the vibes Pàng is going for. I came here for dinner on Saturday. We waited around 30 minutes for our table, which wasn't bad. Once we got the notification that our table was ready, they had us wait another 5-10 minutes to get us seated. The restaurant's a decent size for SF and the modern light oak theme made the restaurant look very clean. Even though it was really busy, our waiter had the best attitude and was very kind. We tried the Three Treasures Stir Fry, DIY Scallion Pancake Roll, and Mapo Tofu Chip n Dip. The Three Treasures Stir Fry had very nice textures from the lotus and mushroom, but I thought it was a tad too salty and umami. The rice didn't balance it out too well, leaving the sauce to be overwhelming. The DIY Scallion Pancake Roll was a cool concept but the pancake was quite disappointing. The pancake was too salty and had barely any scallions. The portion of meat to the pancakes was a bit off, way too much pancake and slice of meat was a bit thin. The Mapo Tofu Chip n Dip was honestly the best out of the three dishes. It tasted just like mapo tofu and loved the blended up tofu. I did really like how all the dishes came out piping hot! However, the quality of the dishes we got was definitely lower than expectations, not sure if it's worth the price we paid. Especially because SF has so many high quality authentic spots for Chinese food, the par is definitely higher for this cuisine. There's so much good food here, and I'm happy to see another restaurant. Interior is modern, warm wood vibes and a good number of seats. Good interior for chatting and catching up. I was here for their soft opening, and there was a wait-list (60-80 minutes for two people on a Friday at 5:30pm). There was a small crowd outside the entrance the entire time my party was eating inside, so plan ahead. Service was okay. We had to flag down the servers a few times as they looked a bit busy, but staff were friendly with the few brief interactions we had. We ordered the popcorn chicken, dan dan noodles, mala dumplings, scallion pancake beef roll, and a braised beef noodle soup. This ended up being a bit more than enough food for two people and we ended up with a small box of leftovers. They do have a drink and small dessert menu too. Popcorn chicken was crispy, larger than I expected with a tangy sauce (maybe good as an appetizer for sharing up to 3 people). The dan dan noodles were good, with a lovely flavor. I thought they were good but my dining buddy said they were great. The dumplings were nice dumplings but missed the mala part of the flavor. The scallion beef pancake was crispy, flavorful, but dry (wish it had a tad more sauce or similar on it) it is like an odd burrito, which I ended up tearing into smaller pieces to eat. We got the braised beef noodle soup without the tendon. Hot, flavorful, and nicely sliced beef. The noodles looked the same as the ones in the dan dan and worked less well in a hot broth (but were fine for the dan dan). I'm glad we got the soup, as I ended up dipping most stuff into the soup for a bit more flavor. Everything here was good, but nothing was a standout to recommend. This area can be a bit challenging to find parking but park a few blocks away and just have a nice stroll down to the restaurant. The restaurant itself is not that big, about 40 people. They have about 4 to 5 waitstaff and we didn't have any issues with refilling water or asking for extra napkins. Pang can be thought of as an upscale dumpling house with modern flare. For apps, start with the Fried Taro and Fried Wonton chips with a ma-po tofu dipping. the fried taro had a few pieces that was soggy. For the ma-po tofu sauce, pinch less salt would've been perfect and the way they made it, it would've worked best over rice. Their chili sauce was a bit on the mild side but perfect for those who want a hint of spice without burning their tongue. The dumplings were flavorful but we also tried something different; their ma-po tofu flavor dumpling was my favorite of their dumplings. Now if they were able to incorporate some actual tofu it would be a home run. The tomato and egg noodle is straight out comfort food and perfect in all ways.. Their beef roll is standard compare to other places but was very good nonetheless. A must try here is their honey walnut shrimp. Full of flavor, crispy and juicy when you bite into it. The other folks in our group loved their dan dan noodles (I'm not a peanut sauce guy) and I'll take their word that it was good. For dessert, the standard fried bun with various dipping (custard, matcha and condensed milk) is best pair with a beer. The best flavor came out if you dip the custard and matcha with the condensed milk but if you're not a fried bun person, hands down go for their black sesame Crème brûlée. As someone who loves Chinese food, especially hand-pulled noodles, this place was a huge disappointment, and it felt like a waste of time. I came here on a Thursday evening with a party of 3. We added our name to the waitlist at around 8 p.m. and had an estimated wait time of 20-25 minutes. We stood outside and waited and got the text message at 8:30 p.m. that our table was ready. Upon showing one of the servers the text message, he told us that it would be another 10-15 minutes before we would get seated. We waited until 8:50 p.m. before we got seated. Even though we were ready to order within minutes of being seated, the servers never came by until we finally asked if we could still order. It was 9 p.m. by the time we were able to order our food. We ordered the following: 2x Braised Beef Noodle Soup non-spicy 1x Braised Beef Noodle Soup mild spicy 1x Popcorn Chicken w/ house mala cream sauce All the food came out at different times, was lukewarm, and the server who took our order even forgot the mild spicy bowl of Braised Beef Noodle Soup. It wasn't until much later when we had to tell them that we were still missing one bowl of Noodle Soup that one of the servers went to the kitchen and came back with it, and it was still made wrong. I would describe the Braised Beef Noodle Soup as bland and salty. The soup base looked and tasted like Chinese soy sauce mixed with water. The noodle texture was very flat and mushy, it wasn't chewy at all. The mild spicy Braised Beef Noodle Soup came with 5 huge globs of mala spice, and it was so spicy and overdone that it tasted disgustingly spicy and salty. You couldn't taste anything else from it, and the heavy amount of mala spice ruined the dish. The Popcorn Chicken was also very bland and underseasoned, and the house mala sauce it came with was alright, nothing special. Overall, this place was a HUGE disappointment, and the long wait time was not worth it. I would not recommend this place at all. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 is because the servers were apologetic towards us. read more

The interior is really nice and modern. Service wasn't too good since orders were forgotten, but when they were taken properly, they did come out decently quickly. The food was mixed - The beef noodle soup was decent. I liked the portion of meat. I also added the tendon for $2, and it was all cooked well. The noodles were just okay. The broth was authentic, but it tasted like something was missing to give it a deeper flavor - I liked the one at Bei Fang Style Restaurant more. The shrimp & chive dumplings were bad. Dumplings are hard to mess up, but you can see in the picture here how little shrimp is in it from cutting into one. They should just call it a chive dumpling. Most seating involved tables, but there's 3 seats facing the window so good for solo diners as well. read more

Went during the soft opening and was impressed overall. The food was really good, and I'm excited to come back and try more of the menu. We ordered the Mapo Tofu Dip, which was the standout dish of the meal. The Hot and Sour Soup was also flavorful and well-executed. We also tried the soup dumplings, which were a bit disappointing. The wrappers were slightly doughy and chewy, and there wasn't as much soup inside as we expected. The service felt a little awkward at times, which is understandable during a soft opening, but there are a few details that could be improved before the official launch. For example, when the soup was served, we weren't given soup spoons and had to ask for them afterward. Overall, the food showed a lot of promise, especially some of the signature dishes. With a few refinements to both the service and certain menu items, I think this place has the potential to become a great addition to the neighborhood. Super cute new spot in Inner Sunset with some unique menu items and modern restaurant interior. I had the mapo tofu chips n dip, beef scallion pancake roll, pork and cabbage dumplings, tomato egg noodles, and honey walnut shrimp. Mapo tofu in a dip format was really interesting with the lotus root chips, and the dumplings were probably my favorite dish. Reasonable prices and the wait time was not too bad on a weekday evening. read more

Very impressed with the service and the creative menu. We loved the ma-po tofu dip so much we ordered two more orders to go, one for us, one for my mom and dad. we went with items that paired well with our warm weather this week. - mapo tofu dip (A+++) - DIY Scallion Roll Set (with smoked tofu) which was very filling and delicious. will try with braised beef next time. Loved the generous amount of sauce. - cucumber salad (wish the one I made at home was this good) - ginger scallion pesto noodles (cold), was light and fresh - black sesame creme brulee (ordered two, could have easily split one, but happily inhaled the whole thing) And went on an "off" night (Monday), still very popular, but not nearly as popular as weekends as we live up the hill. Which was the right call for our group/family. Excited to return on a colder day and try the dumplings, and braised beef noodle soup which looked and smelled amazing (we were near the back/kitchen which was nice). Staff were also incredibly accommodating to our 8-mo. old and stroller (thank you again). While we were hoping for beer (license still pending, which takes time in SF, we get it) were blown away at the refreshing mango sparkler (ordered a third). But again, this is a very popular place so if you come on peak nights, be patient. They are worth the wait. Also, this is 100% not your standard "Chinese food", it is unique, at times simple and elegant (pesto noodles, cucumber), at other times very creative (mapo in a cool dip, so good), and at times just plain filling and comforting (the DIY scallion pancake roll set). read more

The restaurant is cute and the energy is great, but the food is mediocre Chinese food. Especially for the price, you can go to Chinatown and get a tastier, more flavorful meal for $10. This is one of those places that I'm glad I went to once but probably won't be going back to. Service was relatively quick and the servers were very nice. read more

I've been watching pang closely since I saw the coming soon sign walking down 9th Ave a few months ago and I'm glad it's finally open - we can definitely use some neighborhood staples in the area! I came for their grand opening - service was a little awkward still, and the inside is clean, bright and modern. -scallion pancake beef roll ($12): this came out mostly cold (maybe slightly warm?) and was a little lacking in protein and veggie filling for us. It was also rather bland (which will be a theme here) and could have benefited from some housing sauce - I enjoyed it immensely more with the addition of their excellent (I'm assuming house made) chili crisp sauce. -black sesame noodles ($23): I was really looking forward to this since it's a unique take on the classic sesame or peanut butter mixed cold noodles I grew up eating, but while you can definitely taste the black sesame, the dish overall was still quite bland, and it still felt like something was missing even after adding the vinegar, soy, and chili oil available on the table. Again for the price the amount of protein and veggie felt a little lacking for us. -braised beef noodle soup, add tendon ($18 + $2): we got this spicy, and surprisingly it did have some heat! despite that... it was still somehow lacking flavor? This had a more generous amount of meat than the other dishes, but was overall not a memorable bowl of noodles. We were also given a complimentary dish of black sesame lava bun (normally $7 for 3) as part of the grand opening - these were good but seem to likely be premade and not too unique compared to what you would get at a typical dimsum place. Overall, I had high hopes for pang to be an option for comforting homey dishes but left feeling a little let down - the prices weren't exorbitant and everything was ok despite being rather bland, but nothing stood out enough to make it feel worth coming back when we have so many spectacular, affordable and tasty options just a little further down Irving toward outer sunset available to us. read more

We stumbled upon the soft opening, and waited about 30m for our 2-person table. They have a waiting system where they will text you when your table is ready, which makes the wait much more bearable and there are enough around Irving St to keep us busy while we wait. We got two appetizers (Chili oil wontons & mapo tofu chip 'n dip), chicken & corn dumplings, and the tomato egg noodle soup. The two appetizers were tasty, and the chip & dip was particularly inventive. I really enjoyed the texture of the crispy taro chips against the pasty mapo tofu dip. It works really well. The tomato egg noodle soup was the highlight for me. Other places often do this dish with a heavy tomato flavor and sometimes even supplement it with ketchup sauce, which really overpowers the other flavors. Pàng's version is savory and all the flavors are very well balanced. For us, the chicken & corn dumplings was the only forgettable dish. Pretty standard and more dedicated dumpling restaurants definitely do it better. All in all a tasty meal, and I would definitely come back to try other dishes. read more

Went to Pang w/ a friend and I rlly enjoyed their black sesame noodles, black sesame creme brulee, mala honey walnut shrimp and beef roll!! I definitely felt the bloat after, but you gotta at least get the mala honey walnut shrimp. They're still in the soft stages of their opening, but if I'm craving hearty chinese food, I'd go here! There's still improvements that can be made like their overall decor/cleanliness. It felt like their menus were used and abused, but overall I had a good experience eating here. read more
