Traditional Chinese cuisine meets modern atmosphere! Being Chinese, I have a higher standard for what Chinese dishes can and should be. (That sounded really snobby, I apologize ) Dim sum is comfort food for me, and 606 knocks it out of the park! Cha siu bao (Bbq pork bun) has a light, fluffy bun and the pork is in the sweet spot between sweet and savory. The siu mai and the shrimp dumplings were very traditionally seasoned and delicious! Mongolian beef was excellent with a subtle kick to it, I didn't expect. Sesame balls and custard buns were nice sweet treats to wrap up the meal. Restaurant was bright, clean, and air conditioned. Some dim sum restaurants can be a little humid and stuffy. IYKYK Owners were very nice and willing to answer any questions we had. 5 star experience!!! read more

I'm dissappointed to write this review even after sleeping on it. My wife and I have gotten take out from 606 in the past and the style is a modern twist on Cantonese food. From the previous times we had take out I was satisfied. I really enjoyed their salted fish and chicken fried rice because the salted fish had a good amount of flavor. My college buddies were visiting and we all decided to grab dinner - we had a party of 6 including a baby. I recommended 606 because of how much I liked their dishes. It was pretty busy on a Friday evening around 6:30pm. It did take a while for our dishes to come out but I didn't mind that considering I was catching up with old friends. We ordered the green onion pancake, salt and pepper tofu/green beans, salt pepper pork chop, salt pepper chicken wings, salted fish/chicken fried rice, beef chow fun, simon's garlic chicken, and salt pepper fish. We were eating family style and it took about 20 mins or so before our first dish came. The first dish was the beef chow fun. I have to say, all of the dishes were SMALL! Going to a typical Chinese restaurant and eating family style, I expected big portions and leaving the restaurant stuffed and satisfied - I personally had none of this, I left hungry and not satisfied, I was contemplating getting a pizza or burrito nearby. The green onion crepes/pancakes we're small and not good - I had frozen options from Asian grocery stores that had more texture. The salt and pepper porkchops were small too! When I think of salt and pepper porkchops, I think of big and juicy porkchops with a crunch to them. The tofu/green beans order was basically all tofu - where the heck did all the green beans go! The PRICING on these dishes were expensive too - considering we were in Chinatown, similar Chinese restaurants in the area would have definitely fit my needs. Throughout our meal, our dishes came out randomly - we had ordered salt and pepper wings and they have completely forgotten about them even after reminding them we were missing the order. I decided to cancel it. The owner was nice enough gift us sesame seed balls for dessert and the salt pepper wings (the reason why I didn't leave a 1 star review). Honestly, the food and dining experience put a damper on my reunion with my close college friends and in the moment, I didn't put much thought into it but looking back the meal was underwhelming and I left VERY disappointed. Being an SF native, the dining experience feels touristy. I personally will not be coming back in person to dine or take out. There are plenty of other options available in Chinatown that offer more food and at a more affordable price. read more

In town for a work conference and my Airbnb motel was just across the street. Yelp reviews were legit so I walked over to grab a solo dinner to go. They were just launching their kiosk orders and I was directed to use that for ordering and ask for help if needed. I chose soup dumplings and garlic noodles. I wasn't prompted about any additional sauces for dipping and I wish I had been offered them or have them as an option in the kiosk. It was ready pretty quickly and the fast walk "home " was perfect because I was super excited to dig in! Noodles were a little dry and I wish there was more sauce or some soup sauce or something but the actual flavors were well balanced and satisfying. I wish I would have sat in the restaurant instead of taking it to go. I feel like the location really adds to the ambience and it would've been fun to people watch through the windows. read more

I love that the restaurant remaining in the family from back when it was Sun Hong Kong. We had many great memories and frequent there for the live seafood decades ago. Simon said they are considering bringing back the fresh seafood option which I would vote for since that what I used to eat even at midnight snack back then. We stopped in 606 late on a Friday night, it had a que and iPad to text to put name and number down. We were able to get seated prior to closing, and the place is clean, large, and modern. Overall our group of 4 wasn't so happy with the food, in particular absolutely skip the BBQ baby back ribs. Not only is the portion small, but it's practically no meat and all cartilage and bone. I had a really tough time chewing any of it, and getting any meat from it. Besides that we got a standard kung pao chicken and chow mein that were both good, but small portions if sharing. read more

I'd say this rating is between a 3.5 and 4 star. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and got seated right away. It's right on the edge of Chinatown and little Italy, a short walk away from the Portsmouth parking garage. The servers were pretty nice and recommended a few dishes to us. We loved the milk tea we ordered, it was just the right sweetness while being very rich in flavor. We ordered the beef chow fun, crispy combination chow mein, sichuan green beans and Simon's garlic chicken. Everything was pretty good, but the beef chow fun needed a bit more wok hei and the chicken and green beans were pretty small portions for the price. The Simon's garlic chicken was basically just a sesame chicken, I can see why people new to Chinese food would like it, but was mostly pieces of fried coating. Our favorite was definitely the crispy chow mein, which had lots of meat and good flavor. Delicious food, their milk tea is a must try. We ordered the Dry Pan-Fried Beef Ho Fun, and the taste was surprisingly close to what you'd find in Hong Kong. Unlike many other Chinese restaurants, it didn't have that heavy MSG flavor or the greasy taste of reused oil. Definitely one of the better versions I've had in the Bay Area! read more

I'm not one to choose American Chinese food but yes to Hong Kong /cantonese cuisine. We had mostly vegetarian dishes for our friend. I really enjoyed the quality of the food here. The 19$ fried tofu with string beans was crunchy on the outside and soft & airy on the inside; it was addictive. The 19$ signature chow mein was not oily and the vegetables are fresh. The 10$ veg potstickers were perfect. The 7$ Hong Kong milk tea had a whole ice cube made of the milk tea, I do think it needs a bit more condensed milk as it lacked that sweetness. Everything was great as we were seated next to a window and it was just great weather outside. The servers and owner checked up on us, making sure everything's good. I liked the set up of the dining room and the chairs overall it was 3.5 stars but im being nice& rounding up. It was lacking depth of flavor so I aksed for soy sauce and chili oil which they did bring out. Every dish was good but the food was not coursed, cramming all 4 dishes on the table at once. My friend said people raving about their milk tea. Being a milk tea enthusiast, I had to try it. Verdict? It's legit!!! To truly taste of if a milk tea is good, you have to taste the hot one and it's not as hot as I hope for, butt the smell and flavor is there. Beef chow fun - For authentic HK style cuisine, sweet and sour pork and beef chow fun is the standard test. Verdict? I liked it! It's got wok air (鑊氣), flavor is good and the One thing I like is the chow fun is not oily. That's skill and a big plus. Their hot sauce goes really well with the chow fun. Personally, I preferred the onion to be well done so it emits the sweetness into the chow fun and the beef. Simon's garlic chicken - Not what I expected. The garlic sauce is not the common 魚香醬, pretty good actually. What I liked about it is the crispiness of the chicken with the light batter. Sauce not too overwhelming. Now I'm curious what the sesame chicken is like. It's too bad this is not located in the south bay like Los Altos, Cupertino, Sunnyvale. Would have been a big hit. This really is the best American Chinese food in San Francisco, and I've tried so many. You really can't go wrong here, they cook everything fresh, use great ingredients, clean oil, and it has amazing customer service and such a nice atmosphere. It's casual but clean, modern, and so well done. Perfect for bringing kids. We love the Simon's garlic, chicken, salt and pepper, tofu, fish with bok choy, chow fun, and especially the honey walnut prawns. I had my eyes set on some other places in Chinatown but had to compromise as some in our party were not big into authentic Chinese food. To my surprise, the food here was surprisingly really good. I had the sui mai, har gow, and some of my son's XLB soup dumpling. I know this sounds weird, but the highlight was the chili oil. Probably the best I've ever had. Besides the food, the service was excellent as well. Something you don't normally find in Chinese restaurants. Fun fact: my mom used to frequent this restaurant when it was New Sun Hong Kong back when I went to school at Sts. Peter & Paul across from Washington Square Park. My mom used to get the pan fried noodles from here and i always used them as my reference point for any other restaurant that also serves this. It's what I remember and grew up with. So far only one has come close! This is all I remember from that place and how delish it was. Fast forward to yesterday. They were really nice and welcoming as soon as I went in. We didn't want to order too much, so we only got the beef hor fun and green onion pancakes. The pancakes were so good! Nice and chewy on the inside and crunch on the outside. The chow fun I had really high hopes for. My memories as a child having had chow fun all the time, had this distinct taste to it and made a certain way. Their chow fun was good, but I think it was lacking a little flavor? I also wish they used the wider noodles instead of these thinner ones. :( It wasn't bad at all, I just had a certain expectation. So far, there's only one place that is reminiscent of what I remember and it's in Sacramento. It had a bit more of a kick than I usually go for, but if you like spicy food, you'll probably love it. I also highly recommend the shu Mai, it was the best I've ever had! We also ordered the Hong Kong crispy noodles, and they were hands-down my favorite. They're surprisingly hard to find, and these were so crispy, fresh, and delicious. They gave us the largest table in the restaurant, which was well spaced and ventilated with a really nice ambience. Our whole table ordered so many dishes I couldn't keep track of them all, but my favorites were the Mongolian beef and the fried rice, with the kung pao chicken a close second. Someone said that the food portion is very little. I'd say that the amount of food is exactly how it should be. With all the spoiled people in America who waste so much food, I'd say this restaurant nailed the portion of each entree per order. Me and my co-workers came here because we were looking at a nearest place to eat. Fortunately, we found this place with an iconic mural on the top of the restaurant. This place has always been a Chinese restaurant but it has probably been renovated or changed over time. Upon entering this place, I couldn't stand the smell. No offense. Why does it smell something weird? I smelled piss. We were about to leave until we decided to give this place a chance. The staff is nice. The food is very delicious. The portions are OK. So far, everything is great. This restaurant is good overall except for the weird smell. Went to 606 the Monday before Christmas because my girlfriend's family was visiting and we wanted to take them out to North Beach/Chinatown area to explore some bites. Since we were a big group of 11, we wanted to make a reservation in advance, and 606 had one available for our size group. Long story short, this spot was a hit with the family. They don't get to eat a lot of traditional Chinese food dishes in their hometown. We went with classics like siu mai, har gow, walnut prawns, hot and sour soup, broccoli beef, and XLBs, just to name a few. The standouts for me easily was the walnut shrimp, probably the best I've ever had and would come back for this dish alone. It was perfect bite and mouthfeel. Highly recommend ordering that. The rest of the food was pretty good. The one I didn't like was XLBs though, not a ton of soup inside and honestly whenever I see it come in those aluminum tins, I already have low expectations, because they are never as good. Everything else was great though. I think another thing that elevated the experience was the amazing customer service. Since the fam didn't know what to order they were super patient with us and the owner Eugene made it a point to interact and engage with my family. Eugene spoke a little bit of Spanish, and my gf dad only really speaks Spanish, so it meant a lot to him that Eugene communicated with him in Spanish. The first time I ate here was back in June 2024, and I thought everything was quite good! I came back again recently, and everything was still as tasty as I remembered. FOOD // Thoughts from our most recent meal: + BBQ Pork fried rice: this had a really nice wok hei aroma, even though it didn't look charred - the chef has skills! I've had salt and pepper fish at a lot of Chinese restaurants; 606's version feels like a healthier, elevated version, with an even coating of batter (not overly thick) and not excessively salty as some places can be. The peppers that came with it were not spicy at all (and I say that as someone who orders mild or no spice at restaurants). + Dry fried chicken wings (sweet & spicy): the sauce is sweet with a tiny hint of spice. The meat inside was juicy. + Simon's Garlic Chicken: this seemed like a similar coating and sweet-savory flavor as the dry fried chicken wings, but with boneless pieces of chicken instead. This went really well with rice! + HK milk tea: a well-balanced cup of HK milk tea, with an aromatic, rich black tea flavor that's tempered by the sweetness of the condensed milk. Went on Thanksgiving day as they were one of the few restaurants that were open and had reservation spots still. I was really impressed with the service and hospitality. We were greeted warmly and they were very attentive (almost too much so; we had someone checking in on us every 10 minutes). I have had my fair share of Chinese food, from hole in the wall to upscale, and 606 did not disappoint overall. I tried the salt and pepper tofu and green beans, salt and pepper fish, and garlic chicken. All were recommended to us by our waiter as being popular items. Nothing stood out as being amazing but overall the food was pretty good. Portion sizes were pretty normal and price points were what you would expect for slightly more elevated Chinese cuisine. Came here on a Tuesday afternoon, and they have some deals for the dim sum dishes that are a bit cheaper at that time. I think the xia long baos and shrimp dumplings are quite comparable to other dim sum places around the area especially with the discount during lunch hours. And they were both very juicy and delicious. We also got some milk tea, it was a bit on the stronger side which I like and also love that the ice included in the drink was frozen milk tea as to not dilute the drink. read more

We decided to check out 606 in North beach with some friends and made a reservation before going. The inside of the restaurant was cute and bright with large windows and quite a good amount of seating. I definitely recommend making a reservation however, since it was very packed. When we went we decided to share entrees family style and ordered the Salt & Pepper Fried Tofu and String Beans, the beef chow mein, the Salt & Pepper Fish, and Simon's Garlic Chicken. All of the dishes were good but the standouts were definitely the Salt and Pepper fish and the Salt and pepper fried tofu. The salt and pepper flavoring was spicy and light with most of the flavor coming from the light fry of the fish and tofu making them taste airy and not too oily or heavy.
