I have been here for several times, and never been more disappointed than this time. Hostess (short-haired, Asian female) in the entrance reception was unbearably rude and unwelcoming. The food was decent, but it certainly wasn't as good as it used to be. The variety of dim sum also seemed to have decreased, and some of our favorite dim sum were no longer available on the menu. This was my first time ever at this particular dim sum restaurant, and sadly, I couldn't have any of the dim sum because they all contained monosodium glutamate/MSG. Sadly, I'm horribly allergic to it. However, there is a separate menu I was able to order from where they could not add the MSG into those dishes. I was able to order the walnut prawns and a stirfry vegetable dish along with some rice. Granted the rice never came, but we ordered so many dishes and different types of dim sum. Everybody had a lot to eat!! The ambience was very clean, white tablecloths, which were switched out with every family family or group that joined, and there was a beautiful outside area overlooking the San Francisco downtown financial district. I kind of wish we sat outside, but you never know what the weather. The ambience within the restaurant itself, looked like something out of a beautiful Chinese movie with all the decorative art pieces and murals! I've never been to China, but the ambience looked pretty dead on from any subbed movie I've ever seen of restaurants over there. Great upscale dim sum in a lovely area! Made a reservation with my partner a day before and we got seated right away. Busy for dim sum Sunday mornings, every table was full but the workers were very efficient. Almost everything was very tasty and high quality. The bbq sugar pork buns were so good, worth the hype that we saw about them online. The shrimp rice crepes were a bit disappointing - the shrimps inside were really overcooked and some of the pieces still had shrimp tail on them. When in SF, you MUST come here for dim sum!! This is the best dim sum I've been to in the US. Anything on the menu is good. Our favorites are the baked BBQ pork buns with sugar crust and the coffee buns. This place is popular so we did make a reservation before setting out, just in case (it was a Memorial Day Monday, reserved for 1:00 pm at 12:15 pm lol). There is paid parking in the plaza; the Google Maps name is "Parking near Exploratorium" and you enter via the driveway on Clay St and Drumm St. Otherwise, we take the Bart to the Embaracadero stop and take the short walk over. read more

Plus the final check still comes with room for tip. So if someone didn't hear that gratuity was included already they can accidentally overtip. Shady business practice. The crust makes it transcendent. Steamed Pork Spareribs with Black Bean Sauce: The sauce is very light, with a few black beans and peppers making an appearance. Steamed shrimp and chive dumplings: The shrimp pieces were large and the chive made it even better, Steamed har gow dumplings: Big and juicy pieces of shrimp inside of the dumplings went well with my requested chili sauce. Harborview has a couple of outstanding dishes: the baked black cod is one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. It's very similar to a baked sea bass dish that used to be at Riverside on Vicente that I had once but then never found again. It has a delicious outer glaze and the cod is delicate and flaky beneath. We got the small for 4 people, and it was plenty big enough. The baked pork buns are also really good and unique: they have a sweet crispy top and the dough of the bun is thin and chewy. They also do the classics well: we got the braised pea sprouts and the scrambled egg and shrimp chow fun and both were really good versions of them. Artificial Intelligence, Natural Noise We attended a private dinner and AI panel discussion here, hosted by a large tech company. We hadn't been to Harborview before and were initially impressed by the size of the restaurant and the number of private event spaces. The restaurant was full, which seemed promising at first. Our event was held in the Shanghai Room -- a smaller space with two very large round tables squeezed in, seating about 12 each. It felt tight. The panel setup included three speakers sharing one microphone, and unfortunately the main door to the room was broken. Because the room sits just off the bar, noise from guests, staff, and food service made it extremely difficult to hear the discussion. For a presentation or networking-focused event, the acoustics and layout simply didn't work. The food was nicely presented and served family-style, but overall the taste was just okay. Service was mixed. Although dietary restrictions had been shared in advance, I was met with visible frustration when I mentioned I don't eat seafood. It may have been a coordination issue with the host, but as a guest it felt uncomfortable. With a group of 25-30 people and multiple dietary needs at our table alone, providing menus or table cards outlining the dishes would have been helpful. Overall, while the space may work for purely social gatherings, I wouldn't recommend it for a corporate event involving presentations or structured networking. Very poor service from the hostess at the door (short-haired female, around 10:45 a.m. on June 27, 2026). (and also most of the waiters were not very welcoming, no one checked on us during the entire meal). When we asked if we could walk in instead of using our later reservation, and made it clear that we were happy to wait, she was unwelcoming from the start. She repeatedly told us to come back later, despite us explaining that we didn't mind waiting. When our table was eventually ready, she again commented that we shouldn't have come so early because there weren't many tables available. The repeated remarks made us feel as though we were inconveniencing the restaurant, even though we were polite and willing to wait. The ambiance in this restaurant is gorgeous. The views were stunning. This was my 1st time here and it was Thanksgiving. Here with a party of 9 a rag tag crew mostly from out of town gathering to celebrate not with the traditional turkey but Peking duck. Can you blame us Asians? Normally you would need to order the duck the day before. However, we were advised they would have more than enough. Relieved. This was not our 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice for that matter. We were elated they would have duck and could take our reservation. The reservation was set for 7:40pm. I wasn't sure where to park but fortunately the restaurant is located in a center that has it's' own enclosed, validated parking. Thank goodness for that because San Francisco parking is atrociously high. Keep your parking ticket with you and be sure to get it validated before you leave. We located the restaurant on the 2nd level. Entering from there seemed to be the rear of the restaurant. It was noisy and packed. Good thing we had a reservation but we were super early. Like an hour and 40 minutes. Hey, we didn't know where else to go. We told the gentlemen that and he said no problem then guided us to another part of the restaurant passing many, many tables seats all full of people enjoying their delicious food. We were actually led to the front of the restaurant where we could officially check in. We did and were told to wait in the hall way. The hall way was packed with people waiting to get a table. There was no where else to wait. A stairs led down to the entrance to exit outside. We decided to wait there in the cold. I contacted the rest of our party letting them know where we are and what was going on. When it got about 30 min to our seating we checked in again and were told to wait in the hall way again. This time there was room happy to get warm. Finally, the rest of party came and were shown our table. Tea was ready and I poured to whom I could reach. We did have a lazy susan on the table and had the correct number of chairs for our party. It took a little while to figure out what we were going to order. The Peking duck was a must. $65 for one to be shared by 9. With the plum sauce this was exquisite. However, there wasn't much to share with such a big group. I expected this. So I was prepared to have a small portion, more of a sampling, and well worth it. The meat was tender and moist but would have loved to have crispy skin. Not this time. Should have ordered two. We continued with more foul, $48 diced honey garlic chicken was just as good. Very moist, flavorful and a little sweet. A very nice dish but not something I would normally order with another foul dish. Continuing the foul, the group agreed on salted fish chicken fried rice. To be honest I don't even remember this dish. Probably because it was served last. Yes, the rice was served last. I know, right. But hey, it's Thanksgiving. For $46 that was the most expensive rice I've ever ordered. Maybe stick to regular plain white rice. The prawns with honey walnut $52 was the best deal on the table. Delicious and I could get more than one serving. Normally I get this with shrimp. The prawns is an upgrade and now that I've had it I'm not sure I could go back to shrimp. Kudos on this dish. We needed a vegetable dish and glad someone ordered the $24 green beans. This were really good. Well cooked and slightly season with salt was perfect in taste. The house beef I did not dislike but I really didn't care for it. At $56 for minced meat that was sauteed and cooked to almost crispy, similar to the Vietnamese shaking beef, there wasn't much to go around and found it lacking in taste. There was some but mild to my palette. Congee with pork and egg was ordered. I'm not a particular fan of congee so I did not have this. What I did appreciate is it was only $14. I did enjoy the roku & ginger. And would have this $16 drink again. Maybe 2 next time. I do consider this a fair review for Thanksgiving Day but not a fair review overall. I will come back next year to try dishes I would expect to enjoy more of. The crab sounds really good. The bill for the group was close to $500. That broke down to $56 a person with a generous tip. As busy as it was, and the food was slow in coming, but the staff was on par with the load they had to handle. For a Thanksgiving Dinner that was a deal. We closed the place down. I booked the Hong Kong Room at Harborview for my wedding luncheon for private dining of 22 guests with a 9-course menu with a small dessert at roughly $150 per dish ($2,800 total for food alone, plus a mandatory 20% service fee). I had high hopes. The venue advertised a panoramic view of the Ferry Building and promised the full-service experience you'd expect from a proper Chinese banquet. What I got was the opposite of that on almost every front. THE FACILITY: Run Down and Neglected The room was hot and the ventilation was not working properly. Instead of addressing a clear maintenance issue, staff pulled out a dusty fan from a storage closet in the room, which made it obvious this wasn't the first time this had happened. Management simply has not fixed it. I requested soft background music since I could see speakers in the room. The server told me they were broken. The restaurant advertises the Hong Kong Room as having a panoramic view, but one of the two windows was blocked by restaurant equipment and plates stored outside on the other side of the glass. So half my guests at the second table had no view at all. For a venue that charges premium prices and sells itself on ambiance, this is embarrassing. THE SERVICE: Absent and Unprofessional In any proper Chinese restaurant with a private room, there is always at least one staff member stationed inside so guests never have to go searching. Here, our assigned server was nearly impossible to find. I, the bride, and my husband had to get up from our seats multiple times during my own wedding luncheon and walk out of the room just to locate him. The service lacked the hallmarks of full-service Chinese banquet dining: no one proactively divided the soup, and I had to specifically flag someone down and ask if they could debone the fish. She deboned the fish at our table but completely forgot the other table. Basic attentiveness was simply not there. THE BIGGEST FAIL: The Peking Duck Fiasco I selected Menu E and paid an upcharge to swap in Peking duck in place of the golden roasted chicken. The restaurant forgot entirely and served both tables the golden chicken instead. When I informed our server, he did not believe me and made me pull out my email proposal on the spot to prove it. Once I showed him documentation, his response was that guests at the other table had already started eating the incorrectly served chicken. Rather than letting them keep it as a courtesy for their mistake, he had the dish taken away from my guests mid-meal. The Peking duck then arrived significantly later as the final savory dish because they hadn't had it prepped. My guests sat there confused and the flow of the meal was completely disrupted all because of a restaurant error that was then handled with zero grace. THE FOOD: Not Worth $150/plate Beyond the Peking duck situation, the food was underwhelming across the board. The cold plate appetizer meant to serve 12 people was tiny. And inexplicably, it included Japanese seaweed salad, which is an odd and frankly baffling inclusion in a Cantonese banquet menu. Portions throughout did not feel like they were calibrated for 11 people per table. My sister-in-law, who is from Hong Kong and has attended countless formal Chinese banquets, was visibly appalled. She said she had never experienced service and food quality this poor at a Chinese restaurant of this caliber and price point. AND THEN THERE WAS THE WATER Without being asked, they brought one bottle of San Pellegrino to each table. Given the Peking duck fiasco, we assumed it might be a goodwill gesture. It was not. They charged us $8 a bottle for water we never ordered. It was laughable. BOTTOM LINE The mandatory 20% gratuity was already built in, which we would have been happy to supplement had the service been deserving. Instead, our server was guaranteed a significant tip for doing the absolute minimum. At $150/plate with a $560+ service charge, this should have been a flawless, memorable meal. It was not. If you are planning a wedding banquet or any milestone Chinese dining event in San Francisco, please save yourself the heartache and look at Empress by Boon or even HL Peninsula instead. Came here with a group of colleagues after a training session and can I just say wow! The ambiance of the place as soon as you walk in takes you to another place. As you walk up the stairs the portraits and art pieces are beautiful. We were seated in a big group area. The service was impeccable. This was one of my frequently visited place prior to moving out of bay. It was a bit risky taking an out-of-town guest here when I haven't been in a while. Happy to report that it was a good choice. We were upgraded to a private dining room which was much appreciated as the main dining room was a bit too loud to carry a normal conversation. The restaurant had a good location. We could see the ferry building from our table. Service was excellent. We had a couple of delicate servers for the private dining room. The servers were very friendly, polite, and professional. Our food was delicious! Every entree had its distinct flavor and was very tasty! Everyone enjoyed all the dishes we ordered except for the Honey Spare Ribs. We were visiting San Francisco and really wanted dim sum so we came here on a Friday. We ordered a lot and our favorites were the boiled chicken feet, truffle soup dumplings, glutinous sticky rice with chicken, and shrimp dumplings. We had some other ones. They were all good. Portion sizes were good and very satisfied when we finished. Service was good. The food came out pretty fast. And the restaurant was nice and bright and spacious. Good convenient location. Always a great time at Harborview and, shoutout, I was just informed by OpenTable it was my #1 restaurant for reservations made in 2025 (LOL everything had a year in review now). I'm obsessed with their sugar-crusted bbq pork bun - I typically put in 3 orders as soon as I sit down while I continue browsing for other menu items. I also enjoy their lotus wrapped chicken rice, a variety of the rice rolls, green beans, and the radish cake. It is on the pricier side for dimsum so I would say this is a treat, maybe not something a super large group would want to do for a casual brunch. If it's a nice day out, I love the patio option so you can get the ferry building/Bay Bridge view. Lastly, as you already know, I love that they have an easy reservation system and they manage it very well based on all my past experiences. read more

I've been to Harborview more than a few times now. The food is pretty good. It really depends on what you order. It is definitely on the pricier side. On the same note, at that price point, you would expect above-Chinatown level of service. But, nope. The food here is impeccably tasty. We had a preset menu ordered by our friend who was hosting his 50th birthday. It was indeed fun and the service was excellent. The location opens up into the visible Embarcadero, which is a great spot. I imagine the rent must be crazy high here. By the time we left at about 7 PM it was packed on a Friday evening. We have been to Harborview for every format of dining you can imagine : was here for dates, family gathering, wedding pre banquet, and even Yelp events. The restaurant really delivers. For events (wedding reception) , it has versatile spaces : the great hall can be partitioned, plenty of large and small tables, the event area on the 2nd floor offers a different separate entrance (can use main restaurant entrance too), full bar access, private bathrooms The recent wedding pre banquet at the bar area really impressed every Asian American attended. The bar area has two separate bathrooms. The bar serves the restaurant and also can be open bar for the banquet booking / reservation. They provide both cocktails and non alcoholic with a hint of Asian influence or a twist. The banquet features all their best signature items: Xiao Long Bao XLB, Peking duck, seafood such as sea bass, and chashu. My Cantonese American friend kept saying her mom would be very impressed. Great service. Constantly changing the plates, consolidating plates, generally addresses guests' request quickly. The bar is so close to the tables, it's easy to get to a drink. Such a nice restaurant right by the ferry building! I came here on a weekday for dinner and was immediately seated. Ingredients were high quality across the board. We got the Peking duck, steak cubes and pea sprouts, and everything was really good although portion sizes were a bit small. The duck was flavorful and one of the best I've had in the city. The steak cubes were tender but just a bit too salty for me. I'm not totally sure it's worth the price, but perhaps worth visiting once in a while for a special treat! read more

I went here for my anniversary and I was blown away! The interior is absolutely gorgeous and the staff was super nice. It was so hard to decide on all of the dishes but we went with the duck sliders, tiger prawn noodles, eggplant and tofu special and the crab fried rice. The view of the harbor is also beautiful at night when you sit outside. There were also plenty of heaters to keep you warm. This is definitely a more upscale version of dim sum/canto dishes, so do not expect the usual Chinese dining that you see at places such as HL or Koi Palace. read more
