This was my first time ever at this particular dim sum restaurant, and sadly, I couldn't have any of the dim sum because they all contained monosodium glutamate/MSG. Sadly, I'm horribly allergic to it. However, there is a separate menu I was able to order from where they could not add the MSG into those dishes. I was able to order the walnut prawns and a stirfry vegetable dish along with some rice. Granted the rice never came, but we ordered so many dishes and different types of dim sum. Everybody had a lot to eat!! The ambience was very clean, white tablecloths, which were switched out with every family family or group that joined, and there was a beautiful outside area overlooking the San Francisco downtown financial district. I kind of wish we sat outside, but you never know what the weather. The ambience within the restaurant itself, looked like something out of a beautiful Chinese movie with all the decorative art pieces and murals! I've never been to China, but the ambience looked pretty dead on from any subbed movie I've ever seen of restaurants over there. Service was rather quick, but there were so many waitresses and waiters. I couldn't believe how busy everyone stayed! As the restaurant was closing for a break between lunch and dinner, all the servers came out to eat their meal and there had to been at least 6 tablespoons full of employees!! All the dishes they had to eat looked delicious and smelled amazing also!! I would love to come back and try a couple more dishes, I just wish they didn't pre-make all the dim sum with monosodium glutamate. I know it's a unique food allergy, but I was happy that I could at least get a couple of dishes that didn't have any MSG.

Great upscale dim sum in a lovely area! Made a reservation with my partner a day before and we got seated right away. Busy for dim sum Sunday mornings, every table was full but the workers were very efficient. Almost everything was very tasty and high quality. The bbq sugar pork buns were so good, worth the hype that we saw about them online. The shrimp rice crepes were a bit disappointing - the shrimps inside were really overcooked and some of the pieces still had shrimp tail on them. The soup dumpling were quite small and barely had any soup in them. But the other dishes we got were great.

When in SF, you MUST come here for dim sum!! This is the best dim sum I've been to in the US. Anything on the menu is good. Our favorites are the baked BBQ pork buns with sugar crust and the coffee buns. This place is popular so we did make a reservation before setting out, just in case (it was a Memorial Day Monday, reserved for 1:00 pm at 12:15 pm lol). There is paid parking in the plaza; the Google Maps name is "Parking near Exploratorium" and you enter via the driveway on Clay St and Drumm St. Otherwise, we take the Bart to the Embaracadero stop and take the short walk over.

Braised tofu with vegetable. Average for $28

I keep wanting to like this place so I keep coming back to try it and each time I am reminded why I don't want to come back. What's good. The view is great What not so great. Everything else. Food should be better prepared. Thought they have a Michelin star and food is so sloppy for the price they charge and the service always felt robotic. We had whole duck and the soup $80 and the duck came with bones! Wow. Z&y Beijing duck for similar price is way better. The soup came out also more watery also with bones and mustard green. It was just okay but unimpressive The braised tofu and vegetable for $28 is again just average. I was going to give this a three star but then a 20% gratuity is auto added for our table for 2 people. Plus the final check still comes with room for tip. So if someone didn't hear that gratuity was included already they can accidentally overtip. Shady business practice. Alas a lipstick on a pig and I have tried this place at least 5 times over the last 5 years. I keep thinking they may improve. I am wrong and won't be back. It's a place for show but doesn't really have refined Chinese food.

Very popular for weekend brunch, so be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. Decent dim sum selection with very fast service. I expected higher food quality for the price they charge. Portion sizes are very small. There is also a mandatory 18% service fee for parties of all sizes. The vibes are nice especially when you sit outside. Expect to spend 40+ per person to be full.

It's a nice Memorial Day weekend so we came back for dim sum. We were pleasantly surprised the dim sum was much better than the last visit. The service was also attentive. Our server Shao was helpful and quick to respond. They have plenty of outdoor tables, as well as indoor seating. Shrimp dumplings were 5/5 (plump and fresh) Sui mai were on point 4/5 Honey BBQ pork 3.5/5 Walnut shrimp 5/5 Steamed spareribs 4/5 Steamed Chinese broccoli 4/5 BBQ pork pastry 5/5 Steamed peach bun 5/5

Awesome food! So yummy! 3 treasures was so flavorful! Buddha's delight veg dumplings was mouth watering.. Ambiance was good, it was full and buzzing, servers were helpful and funny ! It was disappointing the outside area was closed for the night. Was hoping to get a view of the outside. Overall wonderful experience for a date night and anniversary dinner!

entrance is confusing. there's only one main entrance and that's at STREET LEVEL. they will direct you to go upstairs after, but you have to check in here first. the bar also has a separate entrance (2nd floor), maybe lesser known, but that's only for the bar side, not regular restaurant. they also have a takeout side, just during lunch hours 11:30a - 1:30p 4 days a week. Great food and I love that their happy hour is 4-7pm goes pretty late, only available at the bar. I checked in and said im walking in here for happy hour. the host said ok happy hour and asked me do I want to sit inside at a table or at the bar? I'm thinking "o, I thought for happy hour I must be seated only at the bar, ok lets get a table instead then, maybe more comfortable." Got settled down and seated in the main dining room which was super loud. another server comes and I ask about happy hour menu and he said no that's at the bar only. so why were we ushered to this table? so I got out of that room and went to find myself a seat at the bar instead. bar is much quieter which is nice and more relaxing. for happy hour the ha gow and siu mai is about $1-2 off. coffee lava bun is good, gooey coffee filling inside and perfectly baked bun outside! 18% gratuity auto added onto all bills big beautiful space, especially outdoors with the ferry building view the cod is incredible. about $56 for half size and $100 for large size.

We decided to have lunch at Harborview, a restaurant we've been wanting to try for quite some time. Even without a reservation, we were seated right away, which was a great start to our experience. Having heard many positive reviews and knowing it earned Michelin recognition in 2025, we were excited to sample a variety of dishes from the menu. Overall, the food was good, though we found the flavors to be quite simple. One thing that stood out was how balanced the seasoning was; the dishes were noticeably less salty compared to many other Cantonese restaurants, which may be one of the reasons so many people enjoy dining here. While the food didn't particularly wow us, the overall experience was pleasant, and we're glad we finally had the chance to try it.

    Baked black cod
    Ray N.

Harborview has a couple of outstanding dishes: the baked black cod is one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. It's very similar to a baked sea bass dish that used to be at Riverside on Vicente that I had once but then never found again. It has a delicious outer glaze and the cod is delicate and flaky beneath. We got the small for 4 people, and it was plenty big enough. The baked pork buns are also really good and unique: they have a sweet crispy top and the dough of the bun is thin and chewy. They also do the classics well: we got the braised pea sprouts and the scrambled egg and shrimp chow fun and both were really good versions of them. The ambiance and location is also nice: there is indeed a view of the Harbor.

    Nam Yu roast chicken 2/26/26

Festive evening to welcome the year of the Fiery horse with a great view of the Bay bridge and Ferry Building. Food was exceptional and our favorites were the nam yu roast chicken with crispy skin, moist chicken meat and even more tasty dipped in the nam yu sauce. The 8 treasure duck was also delicious stuffed with 8 items such as chestnuts, beans, rice etc. Overall, the food was exceptional and came at a nice pace. Plates were changed when needed. Staff were attentive and efficient. A great place to celebrate Chinese New Year!

    Vicky J.

Great for large parties - esp since they take reservations! We had a party of twelve come in and we split a private room with another table of 12. Service was very fast and all the items were so delicious! Favorite eats were: beef chow fun, pork buns, salty egg yolk buns, the eggplants, green beans, and Peking duck! Any of their dimsum items like hargow and siu mai were also top tier. There's a standard tea they serve but you can also ask for other kinds.

The staff were friendly and super prompt about clearing empty plates and refilling our tea whenever we signaled it was done, which is always great as the dishes just get on coming! We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and several really stood out. The spicy tendon was fantastic, shredded paper thin and swimming in a classic spicy sauce. The spicy lamb dumplings were another highlight, with an incredibly thin wrapper and a super flavorful and not gamey at all lamb filling. I also loved the stir fried rice cakes, which were sliced thin enough to avoid that overly chewy texture, and the stir fried noodles Shanghai style were classic and simple in the best way, with big chunks of cabbage and meat and just executed really (the chefs clearly have some serious wok skills!). Not everything we ordered was an absolute knockout as the vegetable dishes could use a bit more flavor and seasoning, but everything overall was good, and the portions across the board were very generous. The desserts were a last-minute decision and I am so glad we went for them. The lava custard buns were fluffy and amazing, with a molten salted egg custard inside, and the sesame balls had a satisfyingly crispy exterior that gave way to a perfectly chewy interior and sweet red bean filling. The value here is also excellent. We left absolutely stuffed and spent around $30 per person, which felt like a great deal for how much food we got and how much we enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

Stopped by Palette Tea House with The Kid after FoodieLand thinking we were just coming for tea... and ended up having a full experience. We sat at the communal high-top table in the center of the restaurant, which has a small pond built into it with little goldfish and even a tiny rubber duck sitting on the rock formation -- such a cute detail and definitely adds to the ambiance. Our server Ken was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He recommended the Iron Goddess tea, which ended up being excellent. The Kid ordered the Milk Aroma Oolong, which surprisingly tasted almost like milk tea even though it's just brewed tea. Each tea comes with its own kettle, and Ken even came back to refill the hot water for us. For food, we ordered the Wagyu Beef Fried Rice, which was a huge portion and easily shareable. Very flavorful and well prepared. We also tried the Sichuan Seafood Dumplings and the Iberico Pork Dumplings, both of which were delicious. One order is definitely enough to share. The dumplings come with several dipping sauces including soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, hot mustard, and a cilantro-based sauce that had a slightly sweet, horseradish-like flavor that really stood out. Service throughout the meal was amazing. Even without a reservation, we were seated immediately. As a Michelin-recognized restaurant for 2025, it definitely felt like a special treat and lived up to the experience.

It was a literal dark and stormy night so between squalls I geared up and headed down Guerrero…read moretoward 17th Street and swung down to Valencia for another perfect simple dining experience at Bao. I walked into the restaurant about 45 minutes before closing time at 9:30 PM and several other diners came in after I was seated. The unsettled weather made the people hungry for dumplings. Bao is warm and woody and serene on the inside, a great counterpoint to the bustle of Valencia at every hour. Upon entering there is a large window looking on to the kitchen prep area where culinary experts are often at work constructing the food diners later enjoy on their plates. Tonight a couple of wizards were in the process of making chicken potstickers. Even being vegetarian, just seeing how the dumplings and other items are made is like seeing secrets being shared. I love it and it sets the vibe for the restaurant. My order consisted of the steamed vegetarian buns and sautéed string beans. The buns come out beautifully presented and taste even better: the bun itself is just slightly sweet and that sweetness adds an amazing dimension to the chopped fresh vegetables inside. Can't tell you what any of these veggies are individually and I don't care, they are so good. Next came the sautéed string beans and the sear on the beans themselves was perfect and smoky and delicious. The crispness of the sautee makes the string beans a lovely pairing with the soft yummy of the steamed buns. Last came the sesame balls as a sweet meal ending. I love donuts and fresh-made sesame balls are similar to a donut hole just with a filling that is actually food and so sweetly tasty. The outer fry was crisp and the insides absolutely perfect. Three dishes, all fantastic, and I walk home happy and thankful to Bao for a great simple meal!

This is slightly more upscale Chinese/dumplings/dim sum than I'm used to (I usually go to Chinatown.) I like their - Steamed Sweet Red Bean Bao, Steamed Sweet Egg Custard Bao, (very Instagrammable and not overly-sweet.) - Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings. Pretty good - Sichuan Xiao Long Bao and Shanghai Xiao Long Bao: must-get! - shiu mai and har gow: my must-gets at any dumpling/dim sum place. Interior is polished and clean. Nice to bike to or go to before or after Dolores Park. Service is fine. I keep coming back!

Quick and tasty spot. Came here to split a siu mai while waiting for my order from another spot…read more The cashier was super friendly and the food came out quickly. Heads up that this is mostly a takeaway spot and they only have 1-2 small tables. The siu mai was fairly big and I liked that the order came with a bunch of sauces- chili oil, soy sauce, and a hot sauce. As a big sauce fan, I appreciated the selection! I'll be back to try most of their selection.

I've only ordered dim sum from here through Too Good to Go (2g2g). Like their Chinatown location,…read moreI find the dim sum to be oily. But overall, it's good. The baked bbq pork buns are sweet with a decent amount of filling. The deep fried dumpling is plump, juicy, and crunchy. The shrimp and chive dumplings are my favorite. It's full of shrimp with a slightly thicker skin, which I think adds a nice chewiness. The veggie egg rolls were okay. I personally wouldn't order those, even if I was craving them. The spare ribs had a really nice savory flavor from the sauce. The egg tarts were okay. I need to note that these bags are leftovers from the day, so they're not as fresh. But they held up the next day so I was able to stretch 2 meals out of them. I can't comment on service since these bags are only for pick up. But they quickly provide the bags once the window open. And it's a small space, with maybe 2 tables. So this place is probably best for to-go orders. Their 2g2g bags have more variety than their Chinatown location. Not sure how many dim sum options there are in the Mission, but I would go here if I was in the area and craving a shrimp and chive dumpling.
