Okay we start off by going there for lunch on June 29th which was a Thursday, the hostess greeted us and states to have a seat and someone will be taking our drink order. OKAY !! 15 minutes later Sergi came over and greeted us and asked us if we would like a beverage ?? WTF i was parched at that point. We gave him the order for our drinks and then gave Sergi our order for food which was instantly messed up. My daughter ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and i ordered some burger that was supposed to be a blackened burger with bbq sauce and some other stuff on it and my wife and son ordered their meals too. 20 minutes later the grilled cheese came out without the bacon and tasted like shit and my burger was drenched in Goldens Spicy Mustard which also tasted like shit. Good food and nice beach vacation atmosphere but, get there early even during the weekdays. It fills up quickly. Wonderful waitress too who is originally from Ukraine. Really surprised at some of the higher starred reviews of this restaurant. The service during our visit was excellent, so no complaints there. The fish tacos were different than the pictures posted here. There were no beans in the rice and the fish was already sliced. All the components of the tacos themselves were flavorless and would have been better if prepared with little effort from the kitchen. The crab cakes were canned crab, not fresh, which is concerning for an island that has so many other fresh seafood restaurants. The burger my husband got that was supposed to be medium was cooked to very well done. Alcoholic beverages were also overpriced for the sized and quality of alcohol used. Seems like there is a large overhead for lower quality ingredients. Will not be returning on our yearly visits with our groups. read more

We went to the Outer Banks last week and we went to this spot 3 times last week. I am a chef in new york and let me say that this place is top notch. Poke bowl was great, pork chop cooked perfectly along with the tuna. Broiled seafood done right. Consistency was spot on all 3 times and that's what really impressed me. We decided to stop at Pangea Tavern for a late lunch since they are one of the catering partners for Koru Beach Klub where we are thinking about having our wedding next year. The bartenders and waiters were very friendly when we walked in and the place looked great. The last time we had seen it was when Atlantic Coast Cafe was still in that location. The inside has been re-done and the screened in porch area looked amazing compared to the plastic walls that were there before. We both ordered drinks to start and crab dip for an appetizer. I had rum punch which was delicious, just enough alcohol. My fiancé ordered an Arnold Palmer which he liked, I thought it was a little too strong. The crab dip came with toasted points for dipping and was delicious. We are from Maryland so we're very picky about anything crab related, considering this was not Maryland style it was very good. For my meal I ordered a Reuben and it was great. Pretty hard to screw up a Reuben in my opinion but it was a large portion and had great flavor. The french fries were fantastic! They serve a shoestring french fry and give you enough for a small family, so yummy. My parents also happened to be having lunch there so I had a taste of their fish bites which were delicious, the mustard dipping sauce that comes with them is a perfect pairing. My mother was trying a few of their beers. The waitress was very helpful explaining the beers and choosing a few to sample. All in all I was not wowed enough to give 5 stars but they seem to be very consistent. I will definitely be visiting again. read more

Went for "Flight Night" we intended to do drinks and an a quick bite but the menu sounded so good we stayed for dinner. We started with the crab ragouns and the chowder. Both were decent but nothing to write home about. I got the pasta special it was ok my husband got the Thai coconut shrimp dish again it was ok. I loved this place so much, my husband and I came here twice on our recent vacation to the OBX. Both times we had the most friendly and efficient servers. The first day we visited, the oyster po boy was on special, so my husband and I decided to split it. We took advantage of the $3 Monday beer special (which was a great deal, considering the amazing variety of beers on tap). When we came back for lunch the following Wednesday after fishing on the pier, we were craving the oyster po boy again, but realized it wasn't on the menu as a regular item. We asked our server about it, and after checking with the kitchen, they were able to make it for us which was awesome! This place has amazing food, drinks, and ambiance. Unfortunately due to the weather we couldn't take advantage of the beer garden, but it looked super cute. I also think it's cool they have a little pirate ship for kids to play on adjacent to the beer garden. Pangea Tavern is adult, kid, and dog friendly. :) read more

last night our family, a table of 13 had dinner at Pangea. The staff at Pangea was friendly, courteous, well groomed, knowledgeable and helpful. Despite the fact that we were the last party of the night, we never felt rushed or a lacking of attention and care. The atmosphere was clean and on point with a good balance of beach/ocean themes. The side mounted fans provided an ocean-like breeze that kept the air refreshing. The menu was well varied, inclusive of discerning foodies as well as budget minded folks. Came here in a cold night at around six with three other friends. Was seated right away. The restaurant is small a cozy and has a large outside eating area. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Our party ordered the NY strip, the Parmesan crusted Mahi special, shrimp tacos, and seafood pasta. Seafood was all fresh and plentiful. The steak was perfectly cooked medium well. I ordered the seafood pasta. It came with a half dozen mussels, six scallops, and about a dozen shrimp. The seafood was cooked in a rich cream sauce. Shrimp were perfectly cooked and not chewy. Scallops were larger than expected and were soft and flavorful. Mussels were OK, somewhat small but I didn't mind. We finished the meal with Key Lime Pie, Creme Brûlée, and the apple dumpling. Creme brûlée was soft, creamy, and perfectly sweet. The Apple dumpling was huge and comes with two scoops of ice cream, could easily be split among two people. The Key Lime pie was homemade and balanced with tartness and sweet. Overall a great find on a cold night and will definitely be back! read more

Someone ran up to my wife outside after she asked for a recommendation in a store for a good seafood restaurant. They highly recommended Pangea Tavern. We were not disappointed. Great ambiance inside, with some bar seating one side and a beer garden outside. Weather was not great so we sat inside. Everyone at our table was impressed with their food. This is by far one of the best seafood restaurants we have tried while on the outer banks. Show your receipt at the pier and you get to walk the Avon pier for free. read more

My family did our annual "vacation family dinner" here on Friday. We arrived around 5:00 PM and had no problem with getting a table. Their alcohol menu is decently sized and the beer is priced well. They have a few speciality drinks for those who aren't beer lovers. We received a few appetizers-the crab dip and onion rings. Our menu choices ranged from the spaghetti squash and salmon, to fried shrimp, and their crab cakes. The food was good, came out quickly, and was all correct. The only reason the restaurant is receiving 4 stars is because the food was not as flavorful as one would have hoped. read more

We had a great meal - everyone enjoyed their food and the variety offered. Huge portions! Server was friendly and helpful. Shrimp and crab bisque, Shrimp and Grits, Tacos, Pork Chops, Crab Legs, and Pasta fra Diavolo were all delicious. They do not take reservations (not unusual for the beach) so did have a 30 minute wait for our larger party, and they do not split checks (which is stated on the menu). I will give it 4 stars for the bar and service, 3 for food. It was really just average, like every other place in Avon. I learned to take these high yelp ratings in Avon with a grain of salt (or sand). Our server was excellent she was friendly and on the spot with everything. We were a larger group of 7 and the place had quite a few people for a Tuesday night. We started with some Nachos and Calamari. I only had the Nachos and they were pretty good, just standard nachos. The bread they give before the meal is excellent though, sourdough and warm. Very tasty. I ordered the Gorgonzola crusted steak. I should have known that this isn't the kinda place to order a steak. While the cook was decent (med rare), the steak was relatively flavorless and still tough to chew. It was supposed to come with a Merlot sauce but it was either baked in to the gorgonzola or just left off. I didn't finish it. I did order fries instead of mashed potatoes but still got mashed. I was hungry and I ate them, they were ok. Just regular garlic mashed. Most everyone else ordered sandwiches and I think this is a place to order those and skip the entree options. For $28 it was a really pitiful excuse for a NY strip. We then sat at the bar, and it was $3 draft specials which was great and they have a good beer selection. The bartender was friendly. But some of the bar patrons were interesting and one was just a sloppy drunk redneck (no short supply of them around this area). But that wasn't the bar's fault they did stop serving him. Overall, great service, mediocre food. But for this area your options are limited. read more

There were some things I really liked about our late lunch here, and some that I liked a bit less. Our waitress was excellent. She was attentive, but not clingy, and she did a great job of explaining the specials, and generally managing things. My husband got a grouper sandwich- or flounder- I cannot recall. The fish was cooked very well, and the fries were good as well. I got the fish bites. These were kind of ridiculously small. They were crisp and tasty, but the portion was smaller than we expected given the price. So in terms of their food I think they were overpriced. Thing is they had excellent service. My husband ordered a beer which they found out they had run out of after drawing him half a cup- they offered this to him free, along with another one. He didn't want another but they gave it to us anyway, and seemed genuinely apologetic about having promised to have something and then running out. So by the end of our lunch, charmed by our waitress and placated by the beer we didn't care so much about the minute fish bites and pricey starters. The fish sandwich was really good. Save your money - avoid this place. Went with our family to this place on July 28 for dinner. Our server was very nice. The food, however, was literally the worst I've ever eaten at a restaurant. Everything: super bland. Shrimp were so overdone that we wondered if the chef was microwaving back there. Ordered the curry, which tasted like wet rice and bland coconut milk. Do they have salt in this restaurant's kitchen? The seafood pasta was the same story. Also, the fried fish combo was super overdone, soggy, and the fish still had its skin on. We had dinner at Pangea Tavern while we were staying in Avon. We always get fish bites as an appetizer (flounder was fish of the day) with a zesty mustard dipping sauce. Lightly battered and delicious. My entree was prepared perfectly: two crab cakes with virtually no filler, garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed squash and carrots. The Dark and Stormy disappeared way too quickly. We finished by having the housemade key lime pie. The pie was decadent and gone in no time. All absolutely fresh and delicious. Service was charming and attentive. The menu has something for everyone, and I would highly recommend it. read more

Brought the entire family for dinner and am still sick to my stomach. It smelled like dog poop on the way into the "beer garden" and I noticed a small poop shovel near the trash can at the entrance. The flies weren't such a big problem until our meal came at which time we were swarmed. We couldn't swat them away with the left hand faster than we could eat with the right. I counted seven landing on my slaw just while I tried eating my fish alone. I discreetly went inside to speak with the manager (who happened to be the owner) and admitted that he knew it was a problem where we were seated but sat us there anyways, wanting to know if what I wanted him to do about it (sarcastically). It become clear he wasn't a professional so I just went back to the table and found almost the whole party ready to vomit in their entrees. I noticed on the way out that his beer garden is bordered by a campgrounds' dog park (hence the poop smell, poop shovel and fly problem). Filing a health complaint tomorrow. read more

We relied on other yelp reviews to pick our vacation dining. So, for the best meal we had all week, I feel compelled to leave a review. The drink specials were a welcome surprise (don't find a lot of that in OBX). The whole staff was amazing...from the sweet hostess, to the bartender, to the waitress who was on the ball with our kiddos. As we left, every staffer thanked us for coming in and made sure we enjoyed our meal. The food...the tuba poke app was amazing...and it had crab too...the best seafood we had all week. Everything was good, from the fried fish, to the mushroom ravioli, to the pork chop. And our littlest kids said these were the best corn dogs and fries they ever had! Absolutely no room for dessert, but i am confident it would be good. This is a must stop. Not any more expensive and WAY better food and service! read more

First off the food is phenomenal!!! The service was slow with an attitude. We had I believe her name was Gibbs. Waited 40 minutes to get our drinks. I was given attitude when could not understand what she asked when fried or broiled. I asked for fried and broiled came out. Wife was given attitude when asked if a drink could be made virgin. Again when asked if a topping could be left off a meal. Waited another 30 minutes for a beer. The other servers that helped were very nice and helpful.
