This was our first family vacay in Hatteras area, and we had a large group of 14. After reading some reviews and calling a few restaurants, we picked Pangea Tavern. Wow, we were so pleased! Not only were we seated fairly quickly (they have a great area for large groups) we were treated to one of the best meals. I had the Tuna dish...so fresh and perfectly cooked. The host and waiter were very friendly and attentive. The food was just as delicious as the pictures online made it appear! Fried pickles, mango habanero wings, and the salmon pesto special were all very good! Only downside in my opinion was the $15 margarita which was just so so. read more

We took a take out from this place,ordered mushroom ravioli and Thai coconut curry. Ravioli was great, sauce was very creamy and delicious. On the other hand Thai coconut curry was moderate lacked flavor and taste. It didn't have any Thai flavor. The menu said it was served with jasmine rice but I don't think it was jasmine rice. Excellent meal! Six of us came in for a late lunch and we're very happy! The 50 Shades Grey Goose martini was wonderful. I'll be dreaming of that for a long time! The beer selection was great too which made my husband and dad very happy. The food was also really good. We had the crab dip appetizer which I highly recommend! The cheese plants (mozz sticks) were good but not as awesome as I was expecting with the variety of cheeses that were listed in it. The crab cake sandwiches were excellent! I highly recommend those. If you're not much for crab, the Greek salad wrap and chicken club got thumbs ups from our group, as well. Next time I'm trying the fried pickles! We will definitely be back. read more

Great find for dinner while in Avon for kite boarding. The atmosphere is causal enough for T-shirts and shorts but also classy enough for an intimate date night dinner. Nice selection of NC beer and hand crafted cocktails. Great menus selections for everyone in your party, plenty of non seafood options an surprises like Thai curry but if you love seafood you will not be disappointed. The quality was outstanding. We started with the fish bites appetizer, which were light and delicious served with a slightly spicy mustard type sauce. The side salads were huge, fresh hosting a delightful combination of ingredients. The seven seas salad was my boyfriend's favorite with Gouda, green apple, pecans and cranberries (good enough for dessert), I had the roasted beet salad with goat cheese, cranberries on mixed greens. The perfect amount of each ingredient. For entrees we had the hoisin porkchop which had wonderful summer squash and zucchini vegetables and herbed mashed potatoes. The seared sesame tuna cooked to order medium rare and it was perfect. The crust of black and white sesame seeds gives the tuna, a great crunch and flavor. The Asian slaw that sits atop this giant piece of fish, provides a mryiad of flavors and spices that adds to the depth of this dish. We had no room for dessert but our friend had lunch at the Tavern and had a pulled pork sandwich and creme brulee, both were fantastic. The service is exceptional. Servers are friendly, efficient and fast, like a finely tuned machine. We definitely will be back. read more

We ate here on vacation last week and it was our favorite spot of the week. We had a group of 11 with no reservation and they were very accommodating. Our whole group loved their food and we really appreciated Joe, the owner, checking on us numerous times. My husband and I shared the steak, mashed potatoes, and veggies. All amazing. Last year this place was amazing, our family cleared our plates and were stuffed to the brim with amazing food and fun. This year however, we came back expecting the same exact thing. This was not the case, dont get me wrong the appetizers were to die for but our entrees on the other hand were not as expected. My tuna steak tasted widely different from last year and they changed basically all of their recipes which used to be perfect. The tuna steak tasted pretty bad, and the rice they used on the side made me gag because of the horrendous smell. They gave me chopsticks for a meal not even designed for them, whoever designed the plating didn't know Japanese or Chinese cuisine in the slightest. One of our other family members ordered the usually ALWAYS amazing fish tacos and were very disappointed, yet again they changed the recipe completely and it didn't even taste close to as good as it used to be. My grandmother's oysters were even cold in the middle. In conclusion, they shoudntve altered it, and they shouldntve downgraded their service and quality. This place is amazing. The food and environment was great. If you have a dog you can leave him/her in the beer garden/dog park area and eat while watching them play. If you have kids you can let them play right outside of the beer garden in the playground. It's also right by the beach! read more

Visited during Christmas wk 2018 and absolutely loved this place. The food is excellent and the service is fabulous. All the waiters/waitresses had a smile and were very friendly. They do seafood really well and we ordered a variety of dishes and had no complaints. The prices were reasonable and the fish was fresh. We even went back the next day and were waiting for our table in our car. The owner came out to the car to call us when the table was ready in spite of a busy crowd. This is the 2nd year in a row we decided to go to Pangea tavern since it's close and could seat a party of 9 quickly. The steamed shrimp and salad I had was good but others had the mahi tacos and said it was just alright. The Pepsi didn't have the right syrup/ carbonation ratio. This place is a gastro brewpub, with menu driven and planned around the extensive all-NC tap beer selection. Is in a nice location with things for kids to play nearby. We enjoyed our shrimp & grits, fried fish of the day appetizer, and crab soup. read more

Absolutely amazing food. The day was extremely hot and there was no indoor seating. We were sat outside and it was almost unbearable. I can't imagine how the wait staff was able to work out there. They seemed to be a well oiled team with one person specifically filling ice water constantly. If we had been inside we probably would have stayed longer due the excellent beer selection but I just couldn't handle the heat. Loved the decor, pirate themed and the kids very much enjoyed. In a nutshell, don't go. Wait at least another month or so, maybe they will get it together. We visited twice, once for drinks (amazing overpriced - this isn't fine dining, people!) on their opening night (band was good), then a few days later for a meal. Service was the worst I have had in years, food was just average. Had to ask other servers for refills, and go find my server several times. Our waiter, Kevin, was terrible. Building looks great, interior very nice although being seated inside the hostess walks every deck table by - maybe they could make the hostess path by the bar since there's another door there? Obviously this is a new restaurant, and hopefully they will work out the kinks. We'll try again on our next visit to Avon, and hopefully I'll be updating this review to a 4 or 5 star. read more

Here's why I gave it 5 stars; because their service to please us is what made them stand out! To be honest, the food wasn't all that great. I ordered the Jamaican Jerk Chicken. What a disappointment. My friend ordered Tuscan Chicken Marsala. He wasn't that impressed either. They had charred the chicken. The manager removed that item off the bill. Then our server attempted to make us an italian seasoning for us to dip the bread in since the bread we received seemed to go perfectly with that type of dressing instead of butter. The other thing that impressed us was the atmosphere. Seemed very relaxing and pleasing. The background music was nice. read more

This place is a winner! Three of us had dinner here and loved the whole experience. The shrimp & grits was delicious and a perfect portion. The crab cake was also tasty and generous. 5 stars because it was great to find such a nice place in a seasonal, tourist town. We usually don't expect much while vacationing here, especially because we are traveling with kids and need to find a place with a kid's menu. This place has that and really good food for adults. They have a bunch of NC beer on tap and on Tuesdays it is $3 a pint. The staff is super friendly and attentive. You won't be disappointed. Use your receipt to get in the pier for free to stroll off your dinner. read more

This is the first restaurant our family visited after rolling into town and it was a great start to our vacation. We were looking for a place that was close to us and quick. The food here is good. Moderately priced. I had the shrimp curry, my wife had the beet salad, and the kids had chicken fingers. All good. However, the service was outstanding. Young fella with a handlebar mustache. Yup, this is a new restaurant opening during the beginning of the busy season. I do think the staff tries hard and were friendly. But when it gets busy they can get overwhelmed quickly. Go here the first chance you get. Service, fantastic. Food, fantastic. We searched Yelp for a recommendation for a great dinner, having not been to this area before, and as usual, it delivered. The tuna steak special was delicious. Whether a Tuesday special or our lucky day, $3 craft beers can not be beat in any spot, let alone a tourist area. Crab ragoons with the slight tangy sauce was a great start. Hand breaded shrimp for the kids, and the wife, not a big sea food eater, found one of the best chicken Marsala that she has had anywhere. This is probably the best place to go in Avon if you want a nice sit down dinner. It is incredibly inexpensive, they had relatively good beer, and the food was beyond amazing. The food was just as good as if I had it back home in Baltimore. It's definitely more of upscale pub food. read more

We had an amazing lunch here during our stay in the Outer Banks. The back porch is great, even if it is cold - they have space heaters! Our mustached waiter was awesome! Went to the tavern for lunch. We were met by Ian the bartender. He was knowledgeable and very friendly as we tasted all the micro brews. I settled on the Peoples Porter. Yummy. My fiancé and I ate here twice on vacation this week. We stopped for lunch, during which I had the seven seas salad and he had a tuna steak salad. We both really enjoyed our meals. When we went back for dinner, we once again had a delicious meal, including the fish bites appetizer, which I would highly recommend. Pangea Tavern is OK. The restaurant and service are very nice. The portions of your meal are very large but the over all food is just OK. I had TBLT and I also had a bite of the buffalo shrimp wrap. Both seem to be swimming in sauces. read more
