My fiancé and I ate here twice on vacation this week. We stopped for lunch, during which I had the seven seas salad and he had a tuna steak salad. We both really enjoyed our meals. When we went back for dinner, we once again had a delicious meal, including the fish bites appetizer, which I would highly recommend. We were even able to score last minute seats to a comedy show that they had in the outside lounge area. Read the reviews and thought we'd give this place. I have to say I was a little underwhelmed. First, there were 5 of us, unfortunately we were seated at a table designed for 4, so it was a little crammed - this was at about 6pm or so and there were some empty tables, so it's not like we were lucky to get a table. The menu and beer selections were great and varied - it's always good to try the regional brews and they didn't disappoint. My main gripe was that after ordering a medium well tuna, it came out medium rare - without hesitation our server agreed. My wife's Mahi special was also under-cooked and both dishes were sent back - at this point everyone else was enjoying their meal while we watched. Personally, it is aggravating to go out to eat as a group and end up eating at different times through no fault of our own. After some pretty bad experiences on the outer banks, we finally found some pretty chill and nice people at the Pangea Tavern. From the moment we entered the door to when we checked out, we had nothing but courteous service. Not to mention, the food was pretty good and arrived in great quantity. I think compared to the rest of the places we tried this was our favorite on Hatteras. I wish we had tried it first. The atmosphere was very nice. The patio was a nice space for dinner. We enjoyed a nice walk out on the pier after dinner, and we even got to see someone catch a shark which was cool for a bunch of Midwesterners. I got the fish tacos. They were good...not the best I've had, but good. I kind of wished for a more interesting sauce for them...avocado cream or something like that. They were good though. My husband loved his burger. This is the first restaurant our family visited after rolling into town and it was a great start to our vacation. We were looking for a place that was close to us and quick. The food here is good. Moderately priced. I had the shrimp curry, my wife had the beet salad, and the kids had chicken fingers. All good. However, the service was outstanding. Young fella with a handlebar mustache. We needed a toddler-friendly but tasty option for dinner so based on reviews we gave Pangea a try. We were not disappointed! We come to Avon every year during the summer and were excited to see a new spot to try. It did not disappoint. Atmosphere is friendly and casual, service was excellent and the quality of food was top notch. Two of our party ordered the tuna, one requested rare the other medium....both arrived at the same time, cooked perfectly. Plenty of variety on the menu, including selections for kids. We had an amazing lunch here during our stay in the Outer Banks. The back porch is great, even if it is cold - they have space heaters! Our mustached waiter was awesome! AVOID THIS PLACE! My family and i called ahead for a reservation because our party was for 10 and two babies. We made our reservation for 5pm to avoid the usual dinner rush. When we arrived, the table wasn't ready but noted that the restaurant was empty save for one four top. We were ushered out to the screened in area which was sweltering. I asked the server if we could sit at the large table inside and she said no, that it was reserved for another party arriving 10 minutes later. We asked her to give us a moment to see how the babies would react to the temp and quickly concluded it wouldn't work (the 4 month old was sweating and red in the face after five minutes). When the server returned we again asked for inside tables, even if close but separate ones, and was told (and I quote) "You might want to go somewhere else". I have never, ever been treated this way in an establishment before. So, we leave and I call KETCH 55 restaurant right down the street and they were happy to accommodate us. In fact, they went out if their way to make us feel welcome after they heard how we were treated (so much so that we visited twice afterwards). Also, regarding Pangea, the manager/owner lady couldn't have cared less when we mentioned why we were leaving. IN RESPONSE TO THE REPLY, if you didn't take reservations then how did you know that the second party would be coming in ten minutes later for which you were reserving the inside table, hmm? Nice try but again you fail to take accountability for your lack of customer service. read more

Pangea Tavern is OK. The restaurant and service are very nice. The portions of your meal are very large but the over all food is just OK. I had TBLT and I also had a bite of the buffalo shrimp wrap. Both seem to be swimming in sauces. read more

We were unpleasantly surprised after reading all the positive reviews. We were a party of 9. Service was fine, but food was very bland. My blackened snapper was not blackened, had virtually no seasoning and over cooked, I couldn't eat it. NY strip was not seasoned well and we took it home so we could season it. Crawfish were not tasty. No refills on water occurred even though we asked. We all walked away unsatisfied. Unfortunately we can not recommend. read more

Pangea Tavern is an amazing place to dine with your family and friends outdoors on their enclosed patio. All of the food is fresh and delicious. They have a great bar area, and there is s kids playground out back. They have added a Beer Garden this year too! Went early, 4:45PM, and our party of 11 were seated quickly. Service was incredible! Adult entrees were very good portions and well done. Kids meals were excellent as well. MUST VIST!!! My husband and I met at this beautiful, beachside bar one year ago! The night the Wailers played Pangea hosted a party and we danced the night away in their "shark tank" The staff and atmosphere was nothing short of incredible. We just went back for our one year anniversary. The food and service was every bit as amazing as that night. They even have corn-hole and fantastic outdoor area now. Service was great, management was on top of everything even though there was no problem and the menu is varied enough that the entire family got something that they liked. The Carolina pulled pork was excellent. Slightly spicy and tangy and smoky without overpowering the overall meal. They make their own fresh-cut french fries as well as their own coleslaw both very good. The salads are very fresh. They have a great selection of Carolina brews on tap as well as an impressive wine list. I will eat here again when we come back. Tried this place for the first time, meh. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait and that we could wait in their beer garden and have drinks and appetizers while we waited for our table. The "beer garden" was three patio tables that were loaded with dirty dishes, a food covered high chair and a few dozen flies. After waiting ten minutes for service we went to the bar ourselves and got drinks. After a while we went inside again and asked them to clean the tables. Three ppl came out and barely cleaned the tables. The beer garden is a great idea for patrons waiting for a table but here it was a total failure. When we finally got called for our table we were sat in the screened in area where there's no a/c. Hot and sticky. The food was mediocre. The fish in the fish and chips was bone dry and over cooked. The French fries were very good. The garlic mashed potatoes were barely warm and the Mac n cheese had an odd taste. We complained about the fish and chips and they took them off the bill. All the staff were friendly. We won't be going back. read more
