We came here for afternoon comfort food on a rainy Oregon coast day. We ordered coffee and pastries and were quite pleased. It's small inside, but they do have some seating (our party of four had to sit at two different tables). Their baked goodies are delicious and their coffee is solid. We awoke this morning to find that we had forgotten one essential in our packing for a quick beach retreat... Coffee! So off we went, strolling two babies through Nye Beach in search of caffeine. I (of course) had yelped coffee beforehand and so Panini's was out destination. Wow, this is one of those times where I went against the advice of the yelpers and lived to regret it. The coffee was pretty good, better than expected, but the pastry... It was bad, really bad. Several reviewers tried to warn me, but sadly I didn't listen. First, I thought it weird that their were only two choices of pastry, I mean, it is a bakery. But, between strawberry or blueberry brioche, I elected strawberry. Then we took coffee and pastry out to the beach and sat on some benches facing the waves. When I took the pastry from its bag I discovered a soggy mess of bland pastry, strawberry slices and something dairy-based. It may have been yogurt, but it was chunky and sour and horrid. I wouldn't let my daughter eat it for fear she would get sick. The whole thing went into the trash. I think tomorrow we will try the other coffee place, Stephanie's, it has to be better. read more

Love this place. It is rad. The baristas make me heart patterns in my coffee which is as close to coffee making love with my face as I'm comfortable with. The sourdough panini with sweet cream cheese is to kill for and the folks that are regulars make you feel like a regular too. Forget the lighthouse, Art Deco bridge, and smelly harbors. I'll never know what that damn portobello panini tastes like - they took about 20 minutes to make it and I got tired of waiting so I got my money back. Granted, there was an order of 4 portobello paninis before me, but damn. I should've just gotten a slice of pizza or something! It just wasn't meant to be, I guess. One guy walked in to pick up his phone order and one of the girls working there forgot to put in the order. At least when they drop stuff, they throw it away - the guy making the paninis dropped some stuff on them (cooking instruments, containers, I saw a blender go down too) and that's why it took extra long - he had to start all over again. Earlier; while I was waiting (and still in a good mood), I think a girl was reaching for some cups that were stacked by the soda fountain and a whole bunch of cups fell...she threw them away too...so plus a point for those acts of cleanliness. The sandwiches here were SO good. I got the roasted eggplant and my fiancé got the roasted turkey. The focaccia bread was so thick and fluffy and they do thick slices of turkey--not deli meat. Very yum. The only reason they don't get a five star from us is that we got a bad black bottom cupcake--guessing this is not the norm and it was just a bad batch, but the cupcake was pretty bad. Tasted like someone accidentally added way, way too much salt. Had to spit it out and throw it away, which was very disappointing. Still I don't want to hold that bad cupcake against them because the rest was sooooo good. read more

WOW. Wish we had found this place before our last morning on the coast. Friendly great service and off the hook pastries and coffee. My wife had a muffin and the Chai Latte. Probably the best Chai she has ever had. I had a mocha that was delicious and an apple scone. The scone was delicious not too sweet like so many morning pasteries are. Thanks, Yelpers, for a great recommendation during our trip this week. Atmosphere: Super quaint and cozy. Seating for about 10 inside and two small tables on the porch. Lots of locals stopping in, as well as some tourists. Service: Really friendly staff. Coffee: Good size options, self service, tasty coffee. They also make a variety of coffee drinks. Food: They appear to have a rotating flavors of danishes, muffins, a cupcake, focaccia, loaves of breads, baguettes, and paninis (not sandwiches. I asked for a hard roll and they asked, "do you mean the panini?" When I looked confused they politely explained panini actually meant "little roll" or something like that.). We had a chocolate raspberry danish, a triple berry muffin and for the road, a sourdough jalapeno/white cheddar panini. Each was PERFECTION. Not too sweet, beautiful, and perfectly sized (not too small, not GIANT). The panini was soft and chewy with that beautifuI glistening, blistered crust typical of good sourdough. I did some research of this place,and it turns out they failed their health inspection three times earlier this year! I've been reading reviews on this place and asking my friends who have worked there more questions, this place is not clean at all! We asked some locals where the best place to get coffee was on the Nye Beach strip (without trekking into Newport itself). They recommended Panini's and I'm glad we took their advice. The 12 ounce latte I had was really good. The barista pulled good shots and the coffee beans they use are of decent quality. It came as a pleasant surprise since a lot of little shops tend to use beans that way past expiration (based on the oiliness they're excreting) or poorly roasted. Not so with Panini. My friend had a quad-shot Americano and I tried a sip of that as well. Again, really great flavor. No bitterness in the aftertaste. I'd come back here for a coffee beverage any day. I can't comment on their baked goods or pizza though since I haven't tried either. read more

I'll start off on the positive: great coffee, but stay for the PIZZA. I didn't even know this was a bakery, and been brought pizzas or a slice, and didn't step inside until I was hooked. Ok, we have established that it is safe to order coffee and Pizza on any given day. This is an artsy community, and a touch of the eccentric and moodiness is just par for the course. Some days pastries are good served with a smile, some days wow, just grab your coffee and don't complain. It is best to remember that in this bakery the customer is NOT the boss NOR is the customer always right, and that's kind of cool. Every eclectic town needs a bipolar bakery. The best turkey sandwich on the planet, with turkey roasted and sliced on premise (no mystery meat slices here), and house baked sourdough, along with the other sammich accoutrements. The only thing that rivals the turkey sand' for me is the pizza, which also stands as the best in Newport, no exceptions. Great baked snacks (the cookies are my weakness), fresh loaves (baguettes, focaccia, rounds, etc.), great coffee, and friendly staff. My wife and I visit once a week minimum, and spend much of the rest of the week resisting the temptation. Bring cash if you can, but if you don't have it, there's an ATM on site. read more

L.o.v.e. This. Place. The paninis are actually rolls called panini. I got the chocolate chip one with butter. Went to heaven for a few moments. Skip their chai tea if you like yours spicy and flavorful like I do. I bet their other tea is better and my partner said the drip coffee was good. We took home (we were visiting Newport) a whole wheat sourdough loaf and ate it for nearly every meal for 3 days. Must visit! read more

Maybe he just thought salt was f*cking delicious and wanted to share as much joy as possible with the rest of the world. Maybe the lid to the salt shaker fell off, pouring in the entire contents of the bottle; and,rather than redo it he said, "aww, f*ck it" and moved on. I had a horrible experience eating at the panin bakery in Nye beach Newport Oregon Sunday evening . My father and uncle both live in Newport so I go over there often. But I won't be going back to panini again. I walked in to order a slice of Pizza with my wife and my uncle and a blond woman with short hair was working. We each picked out a slice of pizza which were going to be $5.00 each. I said to my wife and uncle, hey we can get a whole pizza for $18.00 rather then a half for $15.00. They agreed it was a better idea. I noticed they had a lot, 4 whole pizzas in the slice section already made. Because it was 630pm and they were closing at 7pm I asked the blond lady if we could just get one of the whole pizzas that were already cooked and I might as well had just kicked her puppy or something? She barked back at me MY PRICES ARE MY PRICES AND ALL THOSE SLICES IN THE CASE ARE 5 EACH.!!!! I said OK , then can we order a whole pizza , she said fine that will take 30 min. I said that's fine. We waited for our pizza and as we waited she proceeded to talk to another blond lady who had walked in after us in German about us ordering our pizza too late as she gave free slices to her friend. Then our pizza was done and she brought it over to us at the table we were sitting at and said OK now you guys need to skidaddle, I'm closing up here. I haven't had that bad of customer service ever. And we get home to find out that the pizza wasn't even cooked all the way and the pizza was like chewing thick gum. I will never give that place my $ again and I will tell everyone I know to not go there. Thank you horrible blond German girl for a horrible experience on my recent vacation. read more
