Went to the shop to grab a panini, since it is the Panini Bakery. There was no menu with a panini on it that I could see. Saw some cold pizza in a counter window and thought I would order a slice. Surely they warm it up or something. After 10 minutes of waiting at the counter unacknowledged while 4-5 employees proceeded to do everything but help customers just feet away from us, we had to repeat our order three times to the cashier. They did not warm the pizza. How much is a slice of cold pizza? 5.00! There were tables open but nowhere to sit since every single table was dirty. The place was filthy in general. Went here with my family in an attempt to get lunch at 11:10AM on a non-busy weekday in Fall. The person at the counter could have at least greeted us, but remained quite as I looked at the pizza menu on the counter. While holding the menu I stated I wanted to order a Margherita... The counter person stated, "We don't serve alcohol". I stated I wanted a Margherita Pizza not a drink. As I was holding the pizza menu and there were only a limited number of pizza selections, it should have been obvious I was ordering a pizza. I was told "We will not start serving pizza until 11:30AM, maybe later". I observed in the background a worker rolling out a pizza crust getting ready to make a pizza, so asked, if you don't start pizza until 11:30AM or later, why is he making a pizza, but received zero response. We decided to go elsewhere and maybe try to get a pizza at dinner time, but decided against doing so because of the non-helpful, rude service received from the counter person. I followed up by phone in an attempt to make the owner aware of the incident. I was told by the person on the phone the reason they did not want to make pizza's until 11:30AM or later. They make a couple pizzas to sell by the slice in case some locals come in at lunch time. It may just be me, but a person at the counter wanting to order food vs. The potential of a local coming in, its a non brainier! At least I could have been told there pizza/locals policy when I first attempted to patronize this establishment. I was told that the owner would be happy to call me back the following day when he was in, but am still waiting for that phone call a week later. There are many reviews on here that state this place is good, but I feel good food with a lack of customer service is a reason to look elsewhere. read more

Excellent service and a darn tasty pizza. A little hole in the wall with a ton of charm. It's good to see the bakers mixing right there with a big bag of flour and a kitchenaid. My god that was a good Cinnamon Roll. and GIANT. and $3!! When we started looking for coffee on the coast at 7am on a Sunday we really didn't think it would be that hard to find anything, but apparently we were wrong. Luckily, we finally asked some locals and they pointed us to this surprisingly low-key amazingness that made our morning quite simply delightful. Incredible smells of early morning baking, some sweet music, and great local(?) art. This place is damn cozy and I would spend far too much time here I lived in town. We were even a bit short on cash (yes, cash only) and decided to pass on the cinnamon roll but he insisted we take one anyway since they would never be fresher than they were right then. I had an early lunch in this small bakery that serves breakfast and lunch. The turkey sandwich with cheese and veggies in the bakery's sourdough bread was excellent. Not lunch meat turkey and bread with a chewy crust. Thick slices of turkey and layers of tomatoes, lettuce, peppers and a very then slice of cheese made a thick sandwich. read more

Always a popular place, food is good. After moving away for a time we happily returned to one of our must go places to find they only accept cash or check only while an ATM sits directly behind where you order. Some may find it convenient, I found it tacky and insulting to try and make extra money off the customer. Especially when square register is such a great option to cut costs while accepting plastic for small businesses these days. Shame on you for taking advantage of unsuspecting tourists. We decided to leave due to the outrageous cost for a slice of cheese pizza after all the ATM fees. read more

AMAZING! We stopped by here for a quick breakfast on our way out of Newport. We got a delicious banana poppyseed muffin, and a sourdough panini filled with honey cream cheese. They used the perfect amount of cream cheese, which was so tasty on the warm sourdough bread - like a bagel and cream cheese but WAY better! All of the fresh bread and pastries looked delicious, definitely worth checking out! read more

panini bakery looks like a place that belongs in northeast portland. once you walk in and experience the staff, you realize how hipster the place is for being on the coast. the BLT is packed with thick-cut, quality bacon and i highly suggest getting it with the avocado and brie -- it really does make the sandwich perfection :) the pastries looked a-mazing, but i was too stuffed after the sandwich. definitely stopping here again to pick up some breakfast items next time i'm in newport. read more

The BLT was the best BLT I've ever had. But I had to wait forever to get it, and the service was not the best. They seemed to be complaining and slamming around in the back. The girl working the counter was friendly however. My husband and daughter shared a greasy piece of pizza - and they were done eating and waiting for me in the car before I even got my sandwich, it was about a 30 minute wait. We were looking for a latte and a snack and we definitely found a great spot! The blueberry muffin was absolutely delicious. The scones, brioche buns, and bread items were fresh and handmade. I'd return again if looking for those types of items. The latte was warm and not-too-sweet, exactly as ordered. They also had pizza by the slice. Dynamite pizza. Yes, they are a bakery and coffee shop, but I never got beyond the kind of pie that arrives topped with cheese. You'll need to rely on others for reviews of crumpets and coffee. The pies are worth the trip. Not only are they the best in Newport, I have yet to find their equal on the Oregon coast. The sauce provides the backbone for the overall combination while not drawing undo attention to itself. The toppings are of high quality and strike the right balance between a minimalist approach and the all-too-common overladen pizza. And, at least in summer months, there is the fresh basil. Handfuls of the stuff. Even misguided souls not in favor of basil would be advised to try it-seriously delicious. The cheese combination is special indeed. Each selection compliments the others, making the whole more than the sum of its parts. The reason for the missing star in my review is the crust. It is good. Distinctly better than average even. Just not up to the standard of the rest of Panini's pizza. It is a crust that aims both at the thin crust snap of a master baker and the fuller, flavorful meal-in-itself version while achieving neither. read more

The Good: the food. Everything they make is delicious. The Bad: the service. The people are nice enough, but they are not customer oriented. Any food beyond a warmed up pizza slice takes forever to come out. And the place is very uncomfortable and not exactly clean. The Ugly: FOOD POISONING. My visiting friend from out of town had the pork banh mi. One week later he's still off work and on antibiotics and a special fluid diet only. This is the second review to report food poisoning at Panini Bakery. I'm lucky I didn't order the same thing. Beware! Update 18-07-2017: after returning home and having several tests done, it was determined that my friend was infected with campylobacter, a bacterium that originates in uncooked meat and has effects within hours. I've only had one experience here but it was pretty good; we ordered some pizzas to pick up and arrived a little early for them. The staff was really friendly even though we were obviously keeping them there late with our order, they didn't seem to mind. The pizzas were big and tasty, fresh toppings and nice crust. This is my favorite coffee shop in Newport. Their bread makes me so happy that I feel giddy about it days before we head to Nye Beach. Their pizza is also absolutely divine, and the coffee is nice and strong. They don't take credit/debit cards which is lame given that debit cards are pretty much the main source of currency now. In fact, that's usually a deal breaker for me because I never have cash, but this place is so fantastic that it's worth it to make the small effort to have cash. read more

I have to first off say that the girl working offered the friendliest service I have ever seen anywhere. Beyond that the food was amazing. They offer a small number if sandwiches (6 I believe), pizza, breads & pastries. They also have coffee, tea, juice & smoothies We both got the eggplant sandwich which was huge! I only are half because to me it was a full size sandwich. You are able to order 1/2 sizes but I didn't know how big it would be. We also tried tomato soup which was very good too. Seating is lunettes to 3 two person tables & a bar with a few chairs. This place is a gem. I'd definitely frequent often if I lived in the area. read more

I have always had excellent baked goods for breakfast here. Seating is often a challenge, and there can be a line to order, but they bake some great treats. Significant downside (as of July 2010), they do not accept credit cards. However, if you're prepared with cash, you're gonna get a delicious breakfast. Their coffee is very good, too. Best Lattes with perfect velvety foam as well as scrumptious breakfast offerings! I just love this place and I'm always here whenever I'm in Nye Beach. They also have a fantastic tomato basil soup and the poppy dressing on the garden salad is amazing! A couple helpful hints: 1.they do not accept cards, but they do have an ATM right inside the door. I stopped in for a treat last weekend and found a lot to choose from. They had really good looking pizza and lots of muffins and scones. I settled on a savory treat which was good except for the salt flavor. A little less salt would have been good. The counter staff were great and had a lot of patience. Living in Chicago, there is pizza galore of course. I have to say though the crust and sauce on Panini's pizza are superb! I popped in briefly to grab a quick bite...what a find! Great....everything!
