In Solvang this past weekend for the Danish Days Festival. At one point, needed food. Needed lunch. And my friend and I ended up at Panino. We wanted something fast and light. For the festival, streets were shut down but you'll typically find parking on the street, or in the nearby lots. Nice thing is that they're free too. At least the ones I've parked at. Panino isn't a full service restaurant. Order at the counter and wait for your order to be brought to your table, or for your name to be called if it's to go. Your order includes your drinks up front so if you want something else, get back in line and order again. Inside the shop, there's seating for about five/six people. Most were sitting outside. Your order is brought to you outside too if you're wondering. I ordered me a Half/Half. Half sandwich (Italian) and a half salad (Caprese) See pics. I enjoyed the salad. I was craving it so it hit the spot. The mozzarella cheese and fresh greens. The sandwich, I liked, but didn't love. It wasn't about the ingredients (even the green peppers which I've never seen on an Italian nor leaves of lettuce as opposed to them being shredded). If the dressing were more tangy, I wouldn't say I'd love it but at least crush on it a little so for me, Panino's version was ok. I wouldn't order it again knowing what I know but if someone shared a half with me, I wouldn't turn it down. Anyway, there's a long list of sandwiches on the menu. Since we had 3 small kids with us with picky taste, we wanted to find a sandwich shop where we knew we could find a simple sandwich for them to enjoy and they something else for my wife and myself. Panino came in clutch. They had a great kids menu where all our kids could get a small sandwich for them to enjoy and then a large selection of hot and cold sandwiches for us parents. Despite it being busy, our order came out within 5ish minutes. Though I will say they almost gave us someone else's order as well so maybe just double check before you head out that you have your order (& only yours). The eating area is next to nothing but we got lucky enough to find a bench along the sidewalk just outside for the kids to sit down and enjoy some shade from the tree overhead. My wife enjoyed her pesto sandwich and I enjoyed my chicken salad sandwich. I will say mine was messy & not really built for eating on the go or even standing up, but that's the nature of the sandwich, not how it was made. The flavors were perfect, the portions were very generous, and just overall it was a great lunch experience. We even had many people walk by us, stop, and ask where we got our meals saying it looked delicious. We were more than happy to just point and say right behind them. We were like free advertisement for the restaurant and brought them in at least 3 groups of people. With how great everything tasted, we were happy do to do. My only complaints really are that I wish there was more eating area. I would've preferred to have an actual table for us to sit and relax while eating our lunch. Maybe next time we'll get our order to go and then bring it somewhere else in town that has more public tables to enjoy the meal more comfortably. read more

Hubby & I wanted a light lunch & found this place on Yelp. Ambiance is tiny with only couple of tables inside but the outdoor patio had plenty of seats. We came here on a Monday afternoon & business was slow so we got to order right away. Waited about 20 min until our server brought our order to the table. I had a brain fart while getting food here. The menu outside of the restaurant actually belonged to the restaurant next door so when I ordered a panini I didn't receive the response that I expected. We love their location in Los Olivos -- so we tried this one for their Curry Chicken Sandwich on sourdough. ($14.95). There wasn't much chicken on it -- mostly apples and cranberries and we've ordered this many times before. Maybe the hens were on strike that day? Too bad -- because the bread and curry dressing were excellent. I ordered over the phone and picked up which is the way to go if you are taking this to enjoy at a nearby winery. Quite a few people in line, and they were out of some bread, but that was totally understandable and the person who took our order was so nice and patient and holding it together! Not their fault, like I said, it was a busy day! HOWEVER, there's a giant courtyard right next door that is apparently off limits for anyone except Cafe Dulce customers (the Turkish coffee shop next door). We originally sat in this forbidden courtyard and some guy from Cafe Dulce came out and yelled at us to leave -- super rude. We were going to get dessert from Dulce but not after that experience!
