GETTING HERE: Located in Solvang, on the main drag through the city. Per their website, they are on the north side of Mission Drive between 4th Place and 5th Street. Parking can be ridiculous, just FYI. I would probably recommend looking straight off for a public parking lot if you're headed here. To maximize your time. REVIEW: First-timers. Sadly, we were completely underwhelmed. Very saddened by this. But, as is my motto, we will give them one more try as hoping this was a one-off. Food: The pancakes were OK? I mean, I didn't see the hype. Again, marking this up to the one-off visit, hopefully. They were good, of course, but didn't seem any different than from other restaurants. We ordered eggs over-medium, and they were runny. But, nothing terribly major. Service: Now, here's the bad news. Our service was horrid. Just horrid. But, as we observed the other customers, their service was on point. Servers and wait staff were hustling, just not for us. It was so unnerving. Finally, who I can only assume was a lead/manager, came to greet us and take our order. She apologized profusely and stated that our server had gotten held up with something. She was pretty helpful, thankfully, but then it was another server who delivered our food and she. did. not. even. say. boo. to. us. Ambiance: It's very quaint, I love it. Very Solvang-rich. Overall, it was a solid 2.5 visit, rounding up because Solvang. Hopefully, will update soon with better experience.
Long wait but worth it! Visited on a Saturday for some late morning breakfast. I expected it to be busy so we had about a 45 minute wait. Once seated we were served quickly and the servers were on top of things. Considering how busy it was everyone was nice and we were never waiting long to be helped. The dining room feels like an old house which I just love. We both got the California special omelette with bacon and Danish sausage on the side. The omelette's were so good, fluffy, big, lots of flavors. The pico and ranchero sauce were perfect on top. The bacon was crispy and thick, the Danish sausage was delicious but could have been a bit warmer. We also got mimosas which were so fresh, they use fresh squeezed orange juice made right there in the dining room. I'd go back just for the orange juice alone! All in all a great dining experience before shopping around town. The meal hit the spot and was worth the wait.
It's a nice place to stop because it's nostalgic. The flavor is okay. Pancakes and waffles are awesome! Needed to add salt and pepper to eggs. The waitress was great attentive as much as she could. It's busy place definitely need to get there early extremely early to not have to wait 45min especially with an infant. The place is loud but not enough to yell over each other but loud. I want to say everytime I've been inside due to weather but outside may be different. Overall I suggest to try on own.
I will admit this place was quite good. I came for lunch but ordered the Danish pancake with blueberries because why not? Breakfast for lunch, right? Anyways, it was my first time trying Danish pancakes and I enjoyed it! The pancake was thin, almost crepe like. The fruit added that nice touch of berry sweetness to it. While large, I devoured this like there was no tomorrow. After my visit here, I keep thinking about what a wonderful meal I had. The restaurant has a fun vibe and fits perfectly with the Danish town feel.
I was inspired to come here after seeing it on a few different social media channels. I was camping a few miles away from here and decided to stop by before heading home. I got here around 8AM on a Thursday and there was already a line. Since I was solo, I sat at the counter. Service was great. All the waitresses were very attentive and friendly. The Danish pancakes were absolutely delicious! Kinda sucks I paid $20 for 2 pancakes and a cup of coffee. Nevertheless, I was very happy with my meal and I'd absolutely come back in the future.
Rounded up to 3.75 stars. We arrived to Paula's Pancake House on mother's Day morning at around 8:30am (they open at 7) and we were told it was a 45 minute wait. It's not a very big place and there isn't really much space to wait but people did start forming a line outside waiting to put their name down. You put your name down on a list and are told to return around a specific time frame. They do not offer texting when your place is open so you can't really travel very far. Service: The service there was fair. Understandably so, it was busy and our server didn't come around to us often while we ate. But she was kind and accommodating to our specific dietary needs (without making any faces). Food: so we came with a party of 7 so they accommodated us by joining two tables together. The food we had was okay. My favorite thing there was definitely the danish sausage which was cooked perfectly and had the perfect snap and bite to it. My sister in law said it was too gamey for her but I believe that is just a personal preference. The sausage was well cooked. The danish pancakes were just alright.... I like to think of them more like a crepe since they are relatively thin. We got ours with blueberries and the blueberries were also cooked well. It was lacking in flavor is all I can describe it. The scrambled eggs has absolutely zero salt. I believe they just cooked the eggs and brought it out. Overall I would say this place was underwhelming and I could not for the life of me understand why it gets so jam-packed. In my humble opinion. I think there just aren't that many options of full menu restaurants in Solvang and a lot of bakeries instead. I would come back here again just for the danish sausage since it was quite delicious but next time I'll try another menu item.
Read this was the place to eat breakfast if in Solvang. It didn't disappoint. Delicious breakfast. The Dutch pancakes are kinda like crepes. They were good. The sausage was sort of like a mild Italian sausage. Early in the morning they were already busy but we got there early enough to be seated right away. The service was good and friendly. The setting was nice. Made you really feel that Dutch heritage. Defiantly give this spot a try. If you're wondering why 4 stars instead of 5, it's mainly because overall it was a typical regular breakfast. That's literally the only reason. But the place is great! Get there early because when my wife and I left and walked around a little bit there was a crowd outside waiting to be seated. They get busy fast!

It was genuinely delicious, my son loved it and we finished it quickly. The eggs and sausage on the side were solid as well. We also ordered the country fried steak, which was just as good. Crispy, flavorful, and satisfying without feeling overly heavy. Parking takes a little effort. Street spots can be hit or miss, but there is public parking nearby. The location is also super convenient if you're planning to stop by the Olesons. Service was friendly, and the whole experience felt immersive, like stepping into a small piece of Danish culture.
Had to come here to try the danish pancakes heard this was the place to go We went on a Saturday morning it was a bit busy waited to be seated about 15 min sat inside Our waitress was awesome very friendly and helpful We went over the menu and ordered our food It came out about 15 min later and presentation was great everything looked delicious we really enjoyed our danish pancakes and breakfast Price was great serving size was good would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to Solvang
I'm a big fan of this location! The vibe is very old-school, and you can really taste the Solvang spirit in their food. It's wonderful. I went with my best friend, and he's extremely picky about his breakfast, but he truly loved the breakfast here. They made the eggs perfectly! He's still trying to recreate them at home, but he can't get them to taste the same lol. The breakfast here is really good. I got the Danish pancakes and they were so good! I was hesitant because I usually love regular pancakes, but these were even better, nice and airy, not too thick, and with just enough flavor to make you happy. We also got their mimosa special for two. They gave us these personal champagne bottles, which was so cute! We got to pop them open ourselves and pour them. It made the whole experience feel a little extra fun. The only reason I'm docking a star is because they don't accept reservations, and the wait time is at least an hour outside ( we waited an hour an 15 mins) in the blazing sun. The hostess managing the waitlist was also pretty crabby. At one point she closed the waitlist because there were too many people waiting for a seat. That said, once we were inside, the service was polite and the food came out quickly. We honestly spent way longer waiting outside than we did actually sitting down and eating, which was a little annoying. But overall, the food is top notch and definitely worth trying if you're in the area.

We recently visited Solvang and tried the breakfast spot located just across the street from our hotel, which came highly recommended in online reviews. We arrived right at opening around 7:00 AM and enjoyed the Danish Paula's Pancakes with warm cinnamon apples, the Danish Pancake Combination, coffee, and orange juice. The drinks were exactly what you would expect for this type of restaurant--good and straight to the point. The service was efficient, and the staff was very friendly. When we walked past the restaurant again around 8:30 AM after exploring the town, the place was completely packed, so arriving early was definitely the right choice. read more

Food Came straight here after our 3 hr drive from LA, craving a really good brunch spot. Haven't been here before but this was one of the recommended spots, so decided to give it a try. We ordered a corned beef hash and the Paula's special pancakes. The food was really good and hit the spot. The corned beef hash with eggs were well made and not overly salty, and the pancakes were dutch pancakes which lean on the thinner side with some fresh fruit(we picked strawberries). Overall, we enjoyed the food and nothing really much to complain. Service/Ambiance For a Friday 10am brunch for 2 people, waiting was around 15-20 mins which wasn't too bad. We were given outdoor seating, but overall the place had a lot of tables. The servers were nice and service was pretty quick as well. Loved the vibe of the place and the outdoor seating really gives your european vibes with the solvang cityscape read more

The food was amazing I had a waffle with bacon and bananas. I got so excited I forgot to take pictures of the meal. The service was good and nice restaurant packed with people. It's decorated nicely. There's an outdoor patio as well. read more

Always a go to when in Solvang! Paula's pancake house is one of the only places in Solvang with actual Danish pancakes! We always get danish pancakes, however, the eggs Benedict, omelettes, and everything else on the menu are all made to perfection! The eggs are always cooked well, the bacon is always crispy and the pancakes are always thin and soft! Service, now here is the thing.. i love love this place but it is always BUSY. You will wait 45-2hrs to get in. I recommend eating indoors but outdoors isn't too bad. The waitresses and hostesses are all very sweet and they will try to accommodate you as best as possible but please remember it is BUSY so be kind! It is very loud and crowded and definitely not a place if you're really hungry or impatient. Overall it has a very cute and homey aesthetic and I definitely think people should go at least once! Rating: 10/10 Pro tip: once your group is called in, they will not call you again so stay close by so you don't miss your name on the list. They will move on and you will not be accommodated. read more
Very cool spot for breakfast. I don't understand the long lines? This place does have exceptional fast service but the food is just average. I thought for a pancake spot these would either taste and look outstanding but it's nothing out of the norm of what you can get at an IHOP? Granted I do need to try the other plates on the menu, so I might be missing something others love. It's very crowded but, so I would recommend get a spot outside on a nice day. read more

This place was pretty decent. I ordered the sirloin steak and eggs, and I was actually surprised by how juicy and tender the steak was. My husband ordered the New York steak and eggs, and his steak was just as tender. The pancakes were pretty good and tasted homemade. The syrup looked a little watery at first, but it was actually sweet and paired well with the pancakes. I also ordered the fresh-squeezed orange juice. I'm not entirely sure if it was actually fresh squeezed, but it was still good. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the food came out pretty quickly. Overall, everything was good, but nothing really stood out compared to other breakfast spots. Even our tour guide mentioned that this place wasn't anything too special since there are plenty of other great breakfast spots in the area. That said, it was still a good experience trying one of Solvang's well-known breakfast destinations, and I'm glad we stopped by. read more

Service was amazing. They were very friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend going early. It does get busy. They had indoor and outdoor seating. Food tasted great however the portion seemed a bit small for the price. It was a chilly, weekday morning so we didn't have a wait. The service was more efficient than friendly - but good. The food was great. We ordered the blueberry pancakes and the bagel and lox. They give you lots of capers with the lox. It's an old school cafe with a nice counter for seating and outdoor cafe tables. read more

While taking a weekend trip to Solvang I wanted to find the most authentic Dutch style breakfast. Paula's pancake house came right up. They don't take any reservations, but the wait honestly isn't bad because there are shops nearby that you can browse in while you wait for your name to be called. I ordered the pancakes with strawberries and cream with a side of bacon for the kids and everyone enjoyed everything! A bit of advice do not get intimidated by the size of these pancakes. The pancakes are huge, but they're thin similar to crêpes. You will be mad if you split your pancakes with someone. Lol Prices are fair. Food is fresh. We loved everything about our experience at Paula's! read more
What to do! How could a town named after a scandnavian country possibly have a bad Belgian waffle? We were torn on where to go, but Yelp helped narrow it down to this place and Brekkies. Being tourists, we had to choose this one because of the themed uniforms of the staff. It did not disappoint. The waffle was great, real maple syrup and whipped cream. Paula's pancake house is right in the heart of Solvang. It is super cute inside and they even had adorable valentines decorations on the tables. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Service was fast and friendly. The food itself was only okay. We tried the danish pancakes which were very crispy and underwhelming. The danish sausage was good, nothing too special. We also got some omelettes which were good. I think if you're looking for a quick breakfast stop in Solvang, this is your best bet. read more
We were visiting for the day.... The wait was quite long but it was our first stop of the day. They were busy and I figured if they are busy it's gotta be good. I got their Dutch pancakes and they didn't disappoint! I have always liked bacon but don't love it like I used to but decided on bacon and over easy eggs. The bacon was so good and got sourdough toast which I LOVED!!! The waitress was really nice and friendly but not as attentive which I get, they were busy. The coffee was average but I was happy with my food. They have indoor, outdoor and counter seating so we were Ok with what ever opened so we sat at the counter. It's semi loud but not terribly loud and the food came out pretty quick. We enjoyed our food!!! read more
We dined there for lunch and it was packed. The wait time for indoor seating was over 30 minutes so we opted for an outdoor table. Tables inside were much too close together and so were the tables outside. I wasn't thrilled about being seated outdoors in the hot sun but our table was under a tree, sot it wasn't too bad. It ended up working out well so that we could enjoy the beautiful scenery and Dutch architecture. It was really hot out, but we managed to enjoy our meal. It took a while for our orders to get taken because they were swamped with customers, but our server was warm and friendly. I ordered the Danish pancakes and Danish sausage. I was pleased with my pancakes topped with apples and powdered sugar, but the sausage I guess is an acquired taste which I am not used to. Glad I tried it but I'll pass on them in the future. I'd say the prices are pretty reasonable, especially since they give large servings. I think that if in the area again, I'd have to dine here to have authentic Dutch pancakes as I don't encounter this cuisine very often. Overall, I had an enjoyable visit! read more
This was the best pancake I've ever had in my life! We heard many good things about this place so I had to check it out. We ordered pancake combo plates that came with sausage and egg. The pancake was so fluffy and buttery and light. I ordered mine with strawberries and it also came with syrup. It was honestly the best thing I had on this trip. I got my egg scrambled and it had pretty standard taste. The sausage was really good! Everything that we ordered, including coffee, was amazing. I also liked the ambience. The waitress wore traditional danish clothing, which made me feel like I was in Denmark. The tables and decorations inside and outside of restaurant was very cozy and picturesque. Very pleasant atmosphere and service, along with great food. I would 10/10 recommend this place to everyone. read more
Arrived on Thursday morning around 10 am and it was already pretty busy. Our party of 7 got sat within30 minutes. We have been coming here for over 20 years and the quality and service has always been consistent. Spectacular service within minutes of ordering our food was ready. Highly recommend the danish pancakes. The country fried steak was crisp and the gravy perfectly seasoned. Employees were very nice and kind. The atmosphere is very family friendly. Came here for lunch on a Thursday for lunch. Service was is still fast and friendly staff. We chose a seat outside but decided to move inside because there were tiny things dropping in our table probably from the plants. They had no problem to move us inside. We ordered the garden burger with fruits. Ordered a salad with fruits on the side. read more
Made our way to Solvang at 6:30 am in order to beat the long line at Paula's Pancake! Our plan worked and only waited 15 minutes for a table inside. All the food we ordered were absolutely delicious, no notes. Everyone enjoyed and said nothing but good review about the food. It all made sense why there's always a long line outside! If you're planning on going, definitely make sure to come before they open or right when they open! read more
I love the decor old world Dutch. Of course in the town of Solvang that's to be expected. The host was very cheery. Got us seated right away. I ordered the famous Dutch Pancakes, eggs over easy, smoked bacon and I also ordered a Dutch sausage. Hubby, ordered ham and eggs and came with biscuit and hashbrowns. All we could say is delicious. The pancakes are cooked thin, I got three huge pancakes. It just melted in your mouth. The sausage was seasoned well. It didn't have the heavy pork flavor you find in most sausages. Woke up early to get here. Waited a few minutes in the car bc it was so cold out and there was already a line - we were 4th - they open at 7am!! Always a good sign of a great eat! Upon entering, you are transported back in time to a no frills, simple yet nostalgic vibe. *There's outdoor seating, too. Hubby and I ordered the same dish: Paula's Combo. Except, mine had cinnamon apples and whip cream (which was an extra $3 and in this economy???) Yes, you're probably thinking well why did I order, I wanted the full experience. Breakfast at Paula's . We had been wanting to go for years but the wait was always too long. This time we planned accordingly, we left bright and early from Oxnard,CA ... even got a spot in public parking at Mission Drive across the street! So many empty parking spots at 9am still. During peak holiday season too. Though we got there at a good time (we thought) the waitlist wouldn't reopen until 9:45am it was already packed! Pro Tip (not sure if only on weekends) - There's a cone to the right when you walk up to the front of the restaurant where we must line up to the right along the other businesses to wait to get on the waitlist once it reopens. We got on the waitlist at 9:45am and were seated at 10:30am. We were a party of 8. Smaller parties were seated faster. Yes, a long wait but we enjoyed it . Next time we'll leave even earlier. We will be back again. The waitlist situation could be better explained with signs but not complaining here.Still great ! The wait was sooooo worth it for all 8 of us! I got the Danish pancake combo w/pork patties and really enjoyed it. Everyone loved their meals ... even my mom, nephew & nieces -the pickiest of eaters . Service was great. Portions were large & prices are very reasonable. It's family owned and open since 1989! "Solvang's original pancake house." My advice is ...get to Solvang early and you'll have no problem finding parking but there may still be some waits. For my family and I, that was completely ok ! We love Solvang & go in December every year! A lot of people complain about the long wait to get a table but just plan a bit . Simply understand this place is popular for a reason hence why you're there too! They're quick and you get your food fast. They wear nice Danish uniforms and staff is friendly though when waiting for a table they could explain the process better. Make sure to get there uber early if you don't want to wait :) read more
If you've even been to this place, you know how crazy busy it can get. Obviously most people visit during the weekend so be prepared to wait in line. I've been where the wait was almost an hour for a table. Well, coming during the weekday was an excellent idea. Breakfast and there was no line. Pretty much everyone was seated inside. The service is good which is a major plus. Theirs menu, they pretty much have everything for breakfast. Plus all their famous danish pancakes. Majority of my visit has always been for breakfast. But they do offer lunch as well. Not sure about dinner. Menu mention has everything. Classic breakfast dishes with omelette, pancakes, French toast and so on. This visit, a mixture of everything was had. The French toast, chicken fried steak with hash browns and a biscuit, the classic danish pancakes and lox Benedict with fruit. The food has always been great. Didn't take long to come out. The service was great and staff are all friendly and helpful. Constantly checking up to see if your coffee needed refilling. If anything else is needed. Good customer service is great here. Majority of time we've been, outside has alway been the place to sit. But inside does have a cozy feel to it. There's bar seating but I'm not sure if it's first come first serve or if you have to put your name down. Parking, there's a small lot with some spaces in-front but it's basically street parking or the lot across the street. There maybe a lot in back but not sure. An amazing breakfast spot that serves Dutch pancakes. Their pancakes are close to crepes where it's a big thin slice with powdered sugar and butter. I had Paula's special with warm apples. I shared with a friend who got corned hash. They were both amazing! Their latte and espresso comes with a piece of cookie which I thought was a cute touch. First things first, they were very honest about their wait time. We were seated at the exact minute they had estimated. The service was stellar. The waitstaff were very polite and our food came out so quickly. We ordered multiples of the danish pancake combo and one of the classic eggs Benedict. Everything was delicious. On the popular mission drive, this place itself is a landmark in Solvang. I was recommended this by a few locals who I ran into at my stay. There's parking across the street, and a parking lot as well. The place offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is nested around with plants and gives a very cool nature vibe. However the seats inside are much more comfortable. Our server was very cheerful and patient with us on the order and was happy to recommend the house favorites. We ordered the California special omelette ( no photos as I was too hungry hahaha), and the Danish Pancakes topped with fruits. The omelette was a little bland for my taste, and I'd recommend asking to add salt and pepper while putting in the order. The pancakes were interesting as they weren't the usual size you'd find in every other place, they were thinner but huge in size with strawberries on top alongside butter and maple syrup. The maple syrup was too runny, and was more sugary, so that was a little disappointing. The strawberries were cut in random shapes which is no big deal but I think uniformity makes the dish more palatable both visually and taste wise. This is such a cute place. The food is very yummy. I loved my danish pancake with strawberries. I got the combo which comes with eggs and bacon...the eggs are so fresh tasting and the bacon is thick. The staff are quick too, our food came out in 10 minutes or less. read more

Yes this is a dog friendly restaurant. Not too sure if they offer food for dogs but they did provide my dog a bowl of water.

Typical of most restaurants in the area, I don't think they have any vegan hot entrees. However, you can order a salad or a fruit bowl.

We were there last Spring, showed up about at about 7 am on a Saturday, and had no wait. Glad we went; if you go, get the sausages.
