45 minute drive from the Marriott Waikoloa Ocean Vacation Club. We arrived at 4:40pm. This little kid comes over to our SUV, and ask if we're the help. He bullies us into leaving. Says it's a working ranch and we're not allowed in until 5pm. We cave and depart. Meanwhile another vehicle is driving up. Later we see it's the first car parked which meant it wasn't forced to leave. So much for ohana kiddo. We return after 5pm the official entry time, and there are at least ten cars parked. The parking issue aside, it was a well organized experience. Lots of activities for both adults and children. Great live country music. Food catered in by Anthony Catering Co. Beautiful scenery from 3000 feet elevation at the "working" ranch.

So much food the plate needs to be bigger!!

Everything was amazing! The food remains unsaid, but I will elaborate that Anthony's Catering did the thang thing! Prime rib was moist and well seasoned and tasted delightfully with the garlic mashed potatoes. The bbq chicken was the perfect amount of bbq sauce and paired well with the baked beans. The asparagus was crisp and crisp leaving a nice complement of greens in the salad. I could wait to get to the desert the chocolate brownie was soft in the center and crunchy on the edges. I purposely got an end! The Mac pie was just like my southern pecan pie with the exchanged nut. I will definitely make this a return visit each year we come back.

Amazing dinner. Food was delicious. The cattle ranch has stunning views and great people. They are very friendly and informative. Great for families and couples.

Our family had an incredible time at the Paniolo BBQ Dinner. Everything from the stunning views and the history of the Hawaiian cowboys to the delicious food and live music with line dancing made it a night to remember. The children especially enjoyed the variety of entertainment, including corn hole, horseshoes, roping, and Tetris Tumble. The S'mores station was a highlight--the fudge-striped cookies are a must-try--and branding our own souvenir was a wonderful touch. Thank you for such a memorable experience!

The location is breathtaking. The hospitality is warm. The storytelling is engaging for all ages. The music is fun. The sides are delicious. The roast beef is the best I have ever had.

What an experience.... The Paniola BBQ dinner is not your traditional Hawaiian fair. And is more Gourmet than the BBQ you are thinking of. The host/ranch owners and all the staff are amazing and the Prime Rib meal with all the next level side dishes was outstanding Don't forget to take in the View.

Paniolo BBQ is a hidden gem that offers a wonderful experience for both kids and adults. They have fun stories, live music, majestic views, enjoyable games, and the food is amazing!

Watching the sunset and seeing the sky change colors was Awesome! You can see Haleakala, Maui on a clear evening and it's majestic! It feels like you can just reach up and touch the clouds. Surrounded by sky and grass pastures was so peaceful and picturesque. It was like stepping back in time a little and imagining what the Big Island was like a long time ago. The entertainment was simple but perfect for the setting and family. The folks running the event are 100% Aloha! Dave was Exceptional! He's the parking attendant, the safety and history guide ....And the entertainment! He played guitar and sang! Incredibly versatile and engaging! Drinks... Non alcoholic are included in the ticket price. Beer and wine was $4. Cash Only!! No ATM up there so bring cash with you. The food was plentiful and tasty! I highly recommend the combination of brownie and the Mac nut pie...take a piece of each and savor that amazing bite. Oh! And then there's the make your own s'mores! For after dinner activities... Stargazing with an incredible telescope. We saw Saturn and her rings! Branding your own souvenir. Horseshoes Corn hole Sitting by the fire and enjoying the evening Dancing The drive up to Kahua is a bit of an adventure. Kohala Mountain Road is twisty fun. I do not recommend drinking more than 1 adult beverage just to make sure you are clear when driving back down. It's super dark and steep. It's roughly 20 minutes from Waimea/Kamuela.

The food is wonderful and plentiful. I could barely finish all the food on my plate and they encouraged people to get seconds. The prime rib was half the size of the extra large plate and the chicken thighs were was big as a chicken breast. The event is well organized with lots of activities for all ages. The ranch has some of the most beautiful views on the islands. There are sunset views from the dining tables.

Kabob was our main with hummus for the appetizers. We ended up not ordering enough for the main because I think when I'm sitting down you can't tell I'm 6'8" 220lbs and they advertise their meals as shareable. If you eat a lot, the kabobs aren't shareable. Pay attention at the desert layout; we decided to go with the unhealthy route which was to top off with some sweets instead of ordering more mains . The frozen milk cake for me was it even though they pushed the pavolova as the one. The smores is pretty average tasting s'mores but definitely a luxury version so I'd never say don't get it, I'd just say it's obtainable elseware if you're trying to decide on a space you might not visit again. Valet is free if you're dining at their resort, just let them know. We checked in about an hour before sunset and were seated at a table along the edge with a breathtaking view of the ocean. The sun was a bit glaring initially but as it began to set the trees to the west provided shade. The table bread loaf was served with black sea salt sprinkled whipped butter. The old fashioned I had was very well-made! For appetizers, we went with their fried Brussels sprouts and island tomato soup. The generous portion of sprouts were prepared with fennel, white balsamic, and li hing powder. I wish I had a grilled cheese sandwich to go with the delicious tomato soup! For the mains, the seared wild caught Hawaiian ahi was excellent! I ordered this the last time I dined here too. The ahi was cubed and seared medium rare. It was served with baby bok choy and a side of ube puree. The Cedar Creek prime ribeye was a big slab of beef! Although the steak was quite flavorful, for "prime" I expected the fat to be a bit more marbled. Instead we were cutting out big chunks of fat. For the last main we decided on the kabocha ravioli which came with 6 pieces. The sauce was amazing! I'm always a fan of mashed potatoes when I see it offered as a side. They call it called "potato puree" here. This complemented the sauces in our mains perfectly! The one disappointment was the creamed corn. The kernels were tough and the flavor was off. For dessert, the Manta chocolate souffle was excellent!! It was served with a side of Kona coffee ice cream. The service was attentive, friendly, and welcoming! Will definitely be back the next time we visit the Big Island!

The restaurant is located inside the Mauna Kea Resort and just above the beautiful Mauna Kea Beach. They have a nearby location where you can see Manta Rays at night. The service is always very good at this restaurant and the food is amazing. During my last trip I got many fish dishes in Hawaii and they didn't exactly impress me so this trip I am going for other proteins. I got the bone in New York Strip and my wife got the dried aged pork chop. Our server recommended the pork chop to be cook medium and I already knew it'll be pretty good. My ribeye was very good. It was perfectly cooked to medium rare and it comes with a side of purple sweet mashed potato. However, my wife's pork chop was the most impressive dish. It was tender, sweet, and savory. I had some of her pork chop and I wish I ordered one too. I stripped that pork chop bone clean. The dessert was pretty good but I do wish there were other options. We ordered the Soufflé and the Chocolate Mille-Feuille. The Soufflé was very good but the Chocolate Mille-Feuille was just ok. Our server did recommended us to get the Bombe Alaska but I already tried it during my last trip. After dinner we all went to the cliff to watch the Manta Rays. The kids especially enjoyed this activity. I am not sure when I'll return to the Big Island but if I do, I'll probably be visiting Manta again.

Instead of being welcomed, the first thing we heard was, "You're supposed to wait over there." We were then shown to our table, but no one introduced themselves or even acknowledged us as guests. A different employee brought us water, again without so much as a greeting. No one was openly rude--it simply felt as though we were an inconvenience rather than valued customers. We've dined at The Bistro many times over the years. The food has always been fairly average, but we've continued to come because there aren't many dining options nearby, and we genuinely like supporting local businesses. Unfortunately, the two menu items we always ordered--the French Dip and the Cali Burger--were no longer on the menu. After looking through the remaining options, my partner and I realized there wasn't anything that appealed to us. We quietly set our menus down, left, and enjoyed lunch at another restaurant in the Queen's Shops instead. One small but odd detail that has always stood out: if you want ketchup, it's served only in individual packets. While that's certainly not a dealbreaker, it feels out of place at a sit-down restaurant when virtually every other restaurant we've visited in Waikoloa provides ketchup bottles. This visit was disappointing--not because of one major incident, but because of the overall lack of hospitality combined with the menu changes that removed the very reasons we had continued returning over the years.
