So much food the plate needs to be bigger!!
Carla C.

Everything was amazing! The food remains unsaid, but I will elaborate that Anthony's Catering did the thang thing! Prime rib was moist and well seasoned and tasted delightfully with the garlic mashed potatoes. The bbq chicken was the perfect amount of bbq sauce and paired well with the baked beans. The asparagus was crisp and crisp leaving a nice complement of greens in the salad. I could wait to get to the desert the chocolate brownie was soft in the center and crunchy on the edges. I purposely got an end! The Mac pie was just like my southern pecan pie with the exchanged nut. I will definitely make this a return visit each year we come back.

Our family had an incredible time at the Paniolo BBQ Dinner. Everything from the stunning views and the history of the Hawaiian cowboys to the delicious food and live music with line dancing made it a night to remember. The children especially enjoyed the variety of entertainment, including corn hole, horseshoes, roping, and Tetris Tumble. The S'mores station was a highlight--the fudge-striped cookies are a must-try--and branding our own souvenir was a wonderful touch. Thank you for such a memorable experience!

The location is breathtaking. The hospitality is warm. The storytelling is engaging for all ages. The music is fun. The sides are delicious. The roast beef is the best I have ever had.

What an experience.... The Paniola BBQ dinner is not your traditional Hawaiian fair. And is more Gourmet than the BBQ you are thinking of. The host/ranch owners and all the staff are amazing and the Prime Rib meal with all the next level side dishes was outstanding Don't forget to take in the View.

Watching the sunset and seeing the sky change colors was Awesome! You can see Haleakala, Maui on a clear evening and it's majestic! It feels like you can just reach up and touch the clouds. Surrounded by sky and grass pastures was so peaceful and picturesque. It was like stepping back in time a little and imagining what the Big Island was like a long time ago. The entertainment was simple but perfect for the setting and family. The folks running the event are 100% Aloha! Dave was Exceptional! He's the parking attendant, the safety and history guide ....And the entertainment! He played guitar and sang! Incredibly versatile and engaging! Drinks... Non alcoholic are included in the ticket price. Beer and wine was $4. Cash Only!! No ATM up there so bring cash with you. The food was plentiful and tasty! I highly recommend the combination of brownie and the Mac nut pie...take a piece of each and savor that amazing bite. Oh! And then there's the make your own s'mores! For after dinner activities... Stargazing with an incredible telescope. We saw Saturn and her rings! Branding your own souvenir. Horseshoes Corn hole Sitting by the fire and enjoying the evening Dancing The drive up to Kahua is a bit of an adventure. Kohala Mountain Road is twisty fun. I do not recommend drinking more than 1 adult beverage just to make sure you are clear when driving back down. It's super dark and steep. It's roughly 20 minutes from Waimea/Kamuela.

This was an amazing experience! The sunset views are so beautiful! The owners and staff were wonderful. The food was excellent. Make sure you plan to spend the whole evening. We enjoyed cocktails and bags before the sunset. There was music and line dancing after dinner. S'mores, stories and stargazing! Our family lived this! There are a fair amount of people so there is a wait for star gazing with the telescope but worth it for the experience.

The food is wonderful and plentiful. I could barely finish all the food on my plate and they encouraged people to get seconds. The prime rib was half the size of the extra large plate and the chicken thighs were was big as a chicken breast. The event is well organized with lots of activities for all ages. The ranch has some of the most beautiful views on the islands. There are sunset views from the dining tables.

My husband and his brother both lassoed the cow.

Kabob was our main with hummus for the appetizers. We ended up not ordering enough for the main because I think when I'm sitting down you can't tell I'm 6'8" 220lbs and they advertise their meals as shareable. If you eat a lot, the kabobs aren't shareable. Pay attention at the desert layout; we decided to go with the unhealthy route which was to top off with some sweets instead of ordering more mains . The frozen milk cake for me was it even though they pushed the pavolova as the one. The smores is pretty average tasting s'mores but definitely a luxury version so I'd never say don't get it, I'd just say it's obtainable elseware if you're trying to decide on a space you might not visit again. The service was also on par with the establishments well earned reputation and they also had eats for our 3 year old (pizza, which somehow he ate the entire serving of and threatened me if I tried some). 5 star experience

This is my second time at Manta in less than 2 years. I usually don't repeat restaurants during my…read moretravels but this place is so good it brought me back. The restaurant is located inside the Mauna Kea Resort and just above the beautiful Mauna Kea Beach. They have a nearby location where you can see Manta Rays at night. The service is always very good at this restaurant and the food is amazing. During my last trip I got many fish dishes in Hawaii and they didn't exactly impress me so this trip I am going for other proteins. I got the bone in New York Strip and my wife got the dried aged pork chop. Our server recommended the pork chop to be cook medium and I already knew it'll be pretty good. My ribeye was very good. It was perfectly cooked to medium rare and it comes with a side of purple sweet mashed potato. However, my wife's pork chop was the most impressive dish. It was tender, sweet, and savory. I had some of her pork chop and I wish I ordered one too. I stripped that pork chop bone clean. The dessert was pretty good but I do wish there were other options. We ordered the Soufflé and the Chocolate Mille-Feuille. The Soufflé was very good but the Chocolate Mille-Feuille was just ok. Our server did recommended us to get the Bombe Alaska but I already tried it during my last trip. After dinner we all went to the cliff to watch the Manta Rays. The kids especially enjoyed this activity. I am not sure when I'll return to the Big Island but if I do, I'll probably be visiting Manta again.

My family and I dined at Manta to celebrate my in-laws' 50th wedding anniversary, and…read moreunfortunately, the experience fell incredibly short of the standards expected for a restaurant of this caliber and price point. We planned this evening well in advance, making reservations over a month ago and explicitly noting the milestone celebration. My husband even called ahead of time to confirm, and the staff assured us they would do something special for them. The letdown began right at arrival. The hostess was passive and asked our table, "Who is celebrating their anniversary?" Given that our party consisted of two couples under 40 and my in-laws, it felt incredibly unobservant and careless for a luxury resort host team. Later in the meal, my husband quietly asked our server if anything special was planned for the occasion, only to be told, "No, we don't do that." Beyond a casual, passing verbal acknowledgment, absolutely nothing was done. The only true highlight of the evening was the beautiful view. Our server was friendly, though a bit awkward, but the kitchen and bar execution were highly disappointing: * **The Drinks:** Highly overpriced for the size, lacking in flavor, and tasted noticeably watered down. * **The Pacing:** While thankfully, we were in no rush, it took a tremendous amount of time to receive our appetizers and salads, though the entrees did arrive quickly after. * **The Food:** Every dish was exceptionally expensive, yet the portion sizes were minuscule and entirely flavorless. The Caesar salad, in particular, had a very strange, off-putting flavor profile. * **Dessert:** We ordered the $17 cheesecake, which was absolutely tiny. For a premium dining experience on the coast at a luxury resort, you expect a balance of ambiance, culinary excellence, and attentive service. While Manta has the ambiance down, the food and hospitality were entirely lacking. We left the restaurant hungry, deeply disappointed, and feeling that our family's major milestone deserved a much higher level of care than what we received.

One waitress said that she was going to come back and then didn't return for over 15 minutes plus. My friend got the Loco Loco over tater tots, which was very filling and delicious. I got the ribs. Initially the only rib that was hot was the end piece and as soon as I cut it, the remainder was ice cold. I told the waitress who took it back to the kitchen, and they reheated it. The ribs overall were tasty, though not the most tender ribs I've ever ever had. I did like the French fries though it was cold after they reheated my ribs.

Walking through the entrance we were greeted by a server who also doubled as a bartender. We proceeded to order the following: Mai Tai's, Jamaican Jerk seasoned chicken tenders (wife) and the Lava burger (me)...both orders with the hand cut tavern fries. Since the restaurant was fairly empty, our orders came out fairly quickly. Both of our orders arrived hot and were very flavorful. As we enjoyed our meals and sipped our deliciously strong Mai Tai's, we enjoyed people watching and eavesdropping on the conversations held by locals.
