I hate to leave bad reviews for family-owned businesses. However, given the time and money we spend…read moreat nail salons and spas, I want to share my experience so you avoid waisting your time and money here. First, I'd like to share that the nail tech, who I believe is the owner's daughter, is kind, thoughtful, and personable. I do believe that she's still learning this craft and will be excellent with more practice. So, despite my nails looking less than professionally done, I'm glad I met her. Second, I will need to go home and remove the polish from my palms and fingers, file down areas that pooled, and touch up my cuticles. Which, after paying for this service, should not be necessary. Finally, I could have overlooked the quality of my manicure if the owner hadn't treated me and other guests so poorly. For example, at one point during my manicure, the gel polish began to recede in certain spots. So, the nail tech called the owner over to get advice on how to fix the issue. The owner began by accusing me of putting oil on my nails and causing the issue (and I quote, "When THEY put oil on their hands, this is what happens."). When I shared that I washed my hands before the manicure and washed with no soap as instructed during the manicure, she snapped at me, forcefully grabbed my hand, buffed out a few nails, threw my hand back at the nail tech, and told her to "buff and be done." As I shared, the owner not only treated me this way, but I witnessed her bickering with a mother and daughter who made an appointment for an hour earlier, and the daughter had not yet been helped. The owner blamed the mother and daughter for the incident, and without care or acknowledgment, walked away. I also think it's important to note that I first considered whether my treatment was race-related (I'm a black female). However, after witnessing how the owner treated the mother and daughter duo (white females), I quickly concluded that this must simply be the way she does business. I rarely write "bad" reviews. I typically give feedback when I LOVE something and want others to experience it too. I also do not want to harm a family business. But I strongly believe that feedback is helpful to both businesses and customers, and this owner should do better.

Receieved a tart respose and then she pushed HARD for me to get a gel manicure. I had to refuse a couple of times. Unfortunately, the manicure itself was worse as she didn't even use a nail file or get all of my old dark purple polish off. In fact, the purple polish ended up all over the tips of my fingers and could be even seen underneath the new pink polish in some places. Took everything off myself when I got home.. waste of $$ and time (even though the whole ordeal took 11 minutes flat).

Instead of helping the person who had the earlier appointment and had already been waiting, the technician left me sitting there and started helping the 5:30 client. If you're going to ignore appointment times and serve people out of order, don't bother scheduling them at all. Total waste of time (40 minutes before I walked out) and very unprofessional.

It was Sunday evening and Vivian was the only place open and taking walk-in appointments. Upon arrival, we were taken right away and the staff was extremely nice. My technician started conversation, was interested in my visit to East Lansing, and did a great job on my nails! The salon had a clean bathroom and all-around clean facilities. My gel manicure turned out great and they even gave me a punch card (which I gave to my friend who lives there). After three visits they offer 10% off your fourth!
