What a gorgeous winery! Delicious wines and friendly hospitality- shout out to Laurel, she's lovely. You have to have a tasting in the caves- super romantic. Vibes of Tuscany overall. The tasting room is in the wine cellar which is also really neat because you get to see the wine tanks. There's also a nice picnic area outside so you have lots of options of places to relax and take in beautiful views. The bell tower has the best views overall. Really great value, the wines are super high quality and not as expensive as others wineries in Napa. Tasting fee is reasonable, too. read more

Amazing find! This time around we headed north of Napa and specifically wanted to target Italian wineries as we love Sangiovese grape style wines and visit Tuscany often. The tasting was excellent and we did not have one bad wine. The experience is then topped with visit to the caves, where the owner has been collecting statues of famous folks world-wide. I have to say it is truly amazing, classy way to store your barrels, art collection and experience amazing wines. We are thinking about becoming wine members. read more

My favorite winery in Calistoga. Breakdown: --Nice selection of wine sampled in a nice progression --Personal touch with the owner pouring our glasses while educating the group about the vineyard --Tasty snack of cheese, crackers, and salami...most places forget that food is a nice compliment --the caves were very impressive. None of the other vineyards provided a distinctive tour of that calibur Don't get me wrong, I am no vetran wino. This was our last stop on the platypus wine tour. The vineyard is quite incredible and impressive. We tasted 9 different wines in their cave which was filled with millions of dollars worth of marble statues. The cave was nice and cool and the aroma of the wines in the barrels hit you as soon as you entered. There was Italian music being pumped into the cave which helped set the mood for the tasting. Afterwards we wandered around their property and enjoyed quite the view from their patio area. Although a bit pricey compared to other wineries we visited throughout the day, it truly was a great experience. read more

We were lucky enough to have Mr. Paoletti as our host this weekend, when we arrived as a part of our Platypus Tour. It was great to hear some of his stories about growing up in Venice, and his journey through buying the estate in 1989 to its current standing. We tried about 7 wines, and all for $10! The Piccolo Cru and Nero d'Avola was absolutely amazing. The tasting area is set off only a few feet from where the production is happening, so you get to see everything in progress. We had lunch on the patio with picnic tables, and the view was breathtaking. It was a sunny 76 degrees, and the Italian and American flags were blowing strongly in the wind. This was my favorite visit in Calistoga, and I hope to go back again! read more

Excellent customer service. My husband joined the wine club about a year ago and we have been greatly enjoying our quarterly shipments. The wine is wonderful. When we experienced a problem with our last order, I was rather upset and emailed Laurel. (I apologize for my tone) It turned out the problem was with the shipping company and not Paoletti's fault at all. Even though it was not her error, and I was too harsh in my anger, she gratuitously went out of her way to see that I was completely satisfied. High quality wine. Even higher quality people. [8/3/07] $10 w/tour Wines: Overall quality was fairly good. My favorite was their Merlot port, which the host thieved from barrel - it just needed a bit more bulk (tannin or possibly wood?), and it would be a very nice port. Winery: The host was very friendly! He even prepared a cheese and salami plate, taking the time to recount the history of the winery and the owner. I was surprised to find several well-known ports on the wine list ... apparently, the owner is a port fanatic, who has purchased way too many ports, and has been convinced to start selling some. read more

I'm used to go to the Napa Valley at least three times and year and I like to discover new little and boutique wineries. I like the charming Calistoga a lot. Quite, relaxing, good restaurants, peaceful.... a nice old town where you can still feel the gold rush history. The Paoletti Winery is on the silverado trail and when I visited the winery, the host was very friendly and we tasted all the wines. Excellent and affordable !! The host had no attitude and he was very genuine. The winery has an impressive cave with marble statues. Is like a labyrint. Full of french and italian barriques, painted in a nice and brown / red color. We stayed until the sunset and it was very romantic. I will be back soon, maybe during the fall. October in Napa is really wonderful... all the warm colors are showing their warmth and it's worth going and driving around.... maybe with a nice convertible. read more

I've been to Calistoga many times, but during my last trip here (I was moving away) I decided to make one last trip. I stopped by Paoletti Estates Winery and I'm only upset at the the fact that I did not discover this place sooner! I had such a great time here. My friend and I came while it was quite slow. We were the only ones in the tasting room, which was really nice. Our host poured many delicious wines, some I enjoyed, others weren't for my palate (but they may be for you!). She took her time and we had a great conversation. She gave us her full undivided attention and was very welcoming. After the tasting, we were escorted to their caves, where they age many of their barrels. Our host gave us a little background about the caves and poured us a 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon in Magnum. She then shortly left us on our own to explore the caves and relax. This last part I loved in particular. It was really nice to have the caves to ourselves, sip on some wine, and just enjoy the moment. I will definitely be revisiting when I'm in Calistoga next, which I'm sure will happen. read more

This winery is now open after beeing closed to the public for some time. They produce only red wines, but they do produce a variety. Most wines are very affordable, but they do have some higher priced bottles as well. If you have a red loving group there will be something for everyone. The tasting is family style and you end the tasting with a tour of the beautiful wine caves. Be prepared to wait as they only take one group at a time at the moment. They do have great table and chairs setup to wait in. If you have the time to relax it is worth the wait. They produce a rose that is great for any warm afternoon. I highly recommend it. read more

My bf randomly chose this place. I think it was only $16 for 5-6 tastings, plus salami and crackers, and a cave tour. We actually met the owner himself, who is here only 2x a month. Wines are not your typical Californian wines. A lot of italian influences. I really liked the Nero, and ended up getting a bottle.The cave was pretty awesome. It wasn't a tour, he just let us wander around by ourselves. He had a lot of marble busts of famous people from Leonardo di Vinci to Ghandi and Marilyn Monroe. This is a very nice property. We had a group of 14 who really enjoyed the wine and the tour. There is a very interesting cave tour that really distinguishes this place from the others. You might pack a lunch, there is a really nice picnic area overlooking a man made pond area. The wines were good and and inexpensive (for the area). The 02 cab was less than $50. read more

What can I say? This winery has it all. The location is idyllic, even on a semi-rainy day, it was a photo opportunity from every view. I'm so surprised to see all the positive reviews! Maybe the owner was just having an off day. We were VERY underwhelmed. We stopped in between other tasting appointments. The owner had just started a tasting and there was just enough room at the long table in the winery for our group of 6. We were told to "sit down", the owner never introduced himself or greeted/welcomed us in any way. We tried to ask questions and start a conversation but he clearly wasn't interested. The wines were mediocre at best. We did not stay for the cave tour. We love wine and visit Napa Valley every year - this was our first and last visit to Paoletti. It seems like most of the other reviewers were part of tour groups - maybe you get special treatment then? We prefer places where everyone gets treated well. read more

I've been here twice and always find myself here at the same time that a tour bus is there. Being apart of such a big group makes my visit less appealing. Their tasting is $15 for about 7 different wines. They are the only ones in Napa to make a Nero d'avola and their tail end of the tasting is a nice walk around the caves where they have some cool sculptures of famous individuals in history and pop culture. The first time I came here, I didn't really get to try the wines but the second time, I found the wines to be a little bit subtle and a bit sweet for my taste. The employees are a couple that are very passionate about their wines but can be rude at times as well. It's a cool place to visit, but I don't think I'll be making a third trip out there. read more

I found Paoletti by accident one day; I was visiting Cuvaison across the Silverado Trail; I saw a large Italian flag wafting in the air. I saw a sizable winery and nearly carless. I took a chance and went to the winery; hoping it was open---it was...well sort of...the owner was there and I couldn't tell if it was open or he just happened to be there and just welcoming. Me and my guest were welcome sitting down enjoying charcuterie, cheese and wine. This is a treasured memory to be so warmly and casually welcomed--felt like a family member. This is the experience you want when you come to wine country. I enjoyed the setting and of course the wines were quite nice as well. read more

This was the highlight winery of the day - my only disappointment is that I didn't buy enough here. I'm going to go back next week! The owner/founder was there and gave us the tour himself. This winery was beautiful. Mr. Paoletti was our friendly tour guide, but his wife(?) was not in the same page as he was. He was friendly and Providing large pours for our tasting. He noticed my mom wasn't a red wine drinker, so he brought out a bottle of his Rose just for her, which was above and beyond. Unfortunately, his wife(?) was REALLY displeased with the rose being presented out-of-order, and made us feel very uncomfortable the rest of our tasting. They were not on the same page when it came to customer service. Wine cave was beautiful, and we ate our lunch on their picnic tables overlooking the pond. They make Malbec and it is fantastic. The estate is huge, beautiful and perfectly encompasses Napa. If you walk up to the little chapel, there is a breathtaking view of the valley. The chapel has stained glass with grapes and vines all over them. Then, go in for a wine tasting and enjoy a cave tour in their wine cave. Filled with barrels and marble statues, the owner paid attention to every little detail. I loved the door handles and the grapes carved into them. read more

This is a nice, low-key, family-oriented winery. The best thing about this place, is their wine. Their wine is fantastic, especially for the price. The sangiovese is outstanding. The cave tour is pretty cool... And the owner is pretty nice. I will def stop by to pick up some wine, but not sure I will put it on my list of wineries with my favorite ambiance. read more

I'm not at all sure how this particular winery gets the average rating it does---having been to over 100 wineries in Napa and Sonoma in the past two years, this one is in the bottom 20%. This is a nice property with a great cave and lots of potential. We got no sense the "heart" is in it. They're going through the motions and trying to be hospitable, but the spark is gone. The owner is a nice man, and I think he tries--the overall was just not enough to convince me to return. I guess you have to know what you don't like to establish what you do like. read more

We had a private tasting for 10 by appointment. We sat at a beautifully decorated long table and tasted at least 7 wines. Our steward passed around a plate of cheese and salumi. Good wines followed by a tour of the cave, with its busts of historic people. read more

Poorly organized, no introductions on seating. Hosts were boring and uninspired; hardly any info on wines. Wines weren't great. Tiny pours. Cheap snack tray passed. Caves seem gimmicky and cheeseball. Pushed their 'wine club'. A lot. And due to a miscommunication from our tour company, we were treated very unprofessionally as we were departing. Save yourself (and avoid the reeeeeeally creepy kid paintings on the wall) and hit up Von Strasser. read more

We went here over a long weekend and Laurel poured for us. This was one of the best tastings I have ever been to! For just $15 we were able to try 9 wines. We decided to split a tasting, but it was still plenty for two people. Typically I might get excited about one type of wine during a tasting, but there were several bottles I loved. I reluctantly have to give this review after our experience today with Laurel. We have been to Peoletti a few months prior and have been raving about the experience to all of our friends ever since. This morning we called to ask about coming in for a tasting today to be told "no problem,come in anytime." We originally said we would head there first, but given The flexibility expressed it worked out with our driver to come later today. We arrived with laurel coming out to tell us they were totally full and we should wait. We waited while banished to the picnic area for a full 45 min and then came back for her to tell us to keep waiting even though we could have been seated outside and served like the other couple already there. We told them we loved their white Malbec and where there specifically to buy a case when we arrived. The service was SO bad we went from a pre-determined decision of buying a case to only buying two bottles and the three members of our party declining to even continue our tasting after the first pour. We had a 3:30 appointment and arrived at the winery early. We were seated outside and when the heat became too much we moved inside to some bar stools. The party before us was seated at the table until after 4pm and when we finally got to sit at the table we were contemplating a purchase and asked if we could re-visit the cabernet. Giovanni abruptly told us that "this is a tasting, not a party" at which point we tore up our order sheet - collected our credit cards and paid a $15 tasting fee. We stumbled on this place after sterling vineyards, hoping to find a place that was still open. We were lucky on this find. Not only did we squeeze in before five, we were given a tour of the caves and tasted well over 12 wines. I ended up buying a 2007 Chardonnay on the way out. read more

Has the best red wines,the tasting fee is cheap based from number of wines we tasted, I think we tasted 7 or 8 wines. My husband and I love sangiovese. David,our host is very friendly and genuine. The atmosphere is like a family get together where you sit,talk and sip wine. I think I could drink the whole bottle by myself because it tastes so good. Love the cave too! And all those sculptures. This winery was beautiful and such a wonderful experience. It is very unique and different from many of the other vineyards in the area. Our tour group was greeted by a friendly, welcoming guide who was personable and gracious. We all sat around a table and were told about each wine before the tasting and the list of wines being tasted was right in front of you as you tasted the wine. There was no guessing afterwards to try to figure out what you had tasted and what wines were your favorite. I think sitting around a table made it easier for our group to talk, laugh and get to know one another. After the tasting, we all walked into this very interesting unique man cave. Inside the cave there was intriguing statues, beautiful stained glass and barrels and barrels of wine. The cave was mysterious and beautiful. Then we were all able to sit down at a table again to enjoy a wonderful lunch and conversation. It was so relaxing, so wonderful, and so beautiful. It was truly a wonderful experience. Along with the beauty of the vineyard and the delicious wine, you also felt comfortable and the guide was friendly and accommodating . I enjoyed the wine so much that I bought several bottles and joined the wine club.I highly recommend a tour of this winery. It will be an experience that will stay with me forever. Mr. Paoletti was the Vintner on the Napa Valley Wine Train in the dining car when we met him and his wine. It was my mother's 76th birthday in 2006 when we enjoyed the fine wine from Paoletti Estates Winery. Mr. Paoletti invited us to his estates for a private tour and tasting he opened the gates just for my mother, daughter and myself. What a beautiful estate a great host and excellent wine. I am not a red wine lover but after drinking Mr. Paoletti's red's I was in love. I still have a bottle from this tour. I highly recommend Paoletti Estates Winery and their wine. Thank you Mr. Paoletti for giving my mother the best birthday present she ever had. read more
