The issue of the greasiness still remains though. If I'm up on the north side of town, Mountain Mikes is one of the best options.

It really was divine intervention that brought us there that night. The restaurant was no where close to our hotel. We are not religious people, but we felt the unbelievable love and support from true strangers that has made this a place we will always visit when we are in Colorado. We had a half supreme pizza and half southwest sausage pizza, which were both amazing. Personally I would like less garlic on the Southwest, but it was still amazing! We were excited to try this place after reading all the great reviews. We went in on a Friday evening, but there was no one in sight except for one customer standing at the counter tapping a credit card on the counter more and more loudly. We stood there behind her for a good while. We finally decided that the wonderful smell of pizza must have just been from some scented candle in the back (probably also unattended), and left to go find humans we could pay for some food. read more

The base of both of these pizzas are excellent, being the crust and the sauce. The crust is thin with some black char on the bottom. The char adds a lot of flavor that enhances the whole pizza. The crust edge is also well seasoned and has a nice chew to it. Additionally, we had some of the garlic truffle oil that we could dip our crust into and this was a must. The crust is good without it but with it is spectacular. The sauce is what you expect from a San Marzano tomato sauce, thin, light and sweet. It tastes so fresh. What was lacking the most for me was the toppings. They didn't really stand out or make the pizza so much better. On the Rustica the ricotta does make a big impact on those bites but the prosciutto didn't do much. I like the arugula but it's overwhelming especially texture wise. Nothing on the Verdure was that impressive either. The tiramisu is a heavy hitter with the amaretto soaked lady fingers really packing a punch in every bite. One of my favorite tiramisu's in the city. The pizzas and tiramisu are both delicious and I will be back, but with a price of $20 for a fairly small pizza, this will have to be somewhere I only come occasionally.
