I don't give this place even one star. I ordered a funfetti cake for my friends birthday and it looked NOTHING like the cake I ordered (see pictures attached). I asked the store if someone could fix it (to make it look like the one I ordered) but was told all the bakers were gone for the day. The owner was incredibly rude and would not allow me for a full credit for the cake after her staff made the mistake. She said I had to return the cake in order to get my full refund. Since my friends party was the same day as cake pick up, I had NO time to get another cake made someplace else. I explained my situation to the owner and she did not care and told me I could return the cake the next day. This made no sense as I would have no cake to bring to the party. My experience with the bakery and the owner was extremely frustrating, disappointing and unprofessional....DO NOT go here!!! read more

This place is awesome!!!! Everything is vegan but extremely delicious. My cousin and I wanted to try Papa Ganache once we visited their website and the multitude of flavors offered. We finally got the chance to go a couple of days ago and it definitely met our high expectations. This place has a ton of vegan cupcakes, cookies, cheesecake, pastries, and even savory food items like pizza, quiche, soup, and sandwiches. They have a huge selection and even though we went 45 minutes before they closed, they still had plenty. If you have gluten restrictions, they have lots of gluten-free stuff and it's all separately kept to ensure it is safe for people with allergies. We bought the chocolate raspberry, lavender, almond joyous, and lemon blueberry. All were really good. I LOVED the cake part of the chocolate raspberry cupcake- it was super chocolatey and amazing. One of my favorite cupcake "cakes" for sure. The frosting was a little odd for me and kind of too sweet so I took it off. We also had a chocolate cheescake cup and it was amazing. We tried the vegan pizza also and it was excellent. You can tell it's not dairy cheese by looking at it, but it actually tasted completely normal. I wouldn't have been able to distinguish that it was vegan by taste. I will definitely be back to try more stuff. I think this is probably deserving of 4.5 stars- I deducted a star because I think the price is just a tad high for a fairly small cupcake (almsot $4) and because I thought the frosting could have been much better. read more

Love that this is a fully vegan bakery with a large variety of gluten free options as well. The rainbow cookies were by far the best item we got. I would return just for these cookies alone! The cheesecake was ok. I personally prefer a good thick textured cheesecake, but there's is honestly more of a pudding texture, but I'm sure others prefer it that way. The yodels were good. The cookie sandwiches were ok as well, but extremely buttery (seemed like the only flavor we picked up in each bite). The cake balls were perfect texture and taste wise. In terms of the savory selection, the eggplant calzone was tasty and cooked well, but pricey for sure. The quiche was good, but we would've preferred more crust to give it a crispier texture. We would pass on cauliflower piccata next time just because the cauliflower was super hard and undercooked. We couldn't even get our fork through it. The seasoning was good, but on the oily side. We love their desserts and have rarely chosen one that was below average. Recently we decided to try the food at the new Cranford store and it was very hit or miss. Not cause of the taste but the care that went into it. Penne Vodka, tasty and good. Eggplant Stromboli was the issue. Taste- good. Care- lazy. I ended up coming back weekly trying more & more things because this was the only place I could get a vegan treat! I've tried their pizza, it was ok. The cookie dough, I would bring home & eat it out of the container... I think I only made actual cookies ONCE!!! LOL. But their cookies are good! For my high school graduation & my 19th birthday, my mom bought a container of 6 each time because she knew how much I loved this place. I came back yesterday for the first time in a while & I got the rainbow cookie donut ! I kept it in the fridge overnight & ate that cold too. We were going to a family dinner and had the task of finding a vegan chocolate cake. We figured it wouldn't be difficult to find what we wanted, so we waited until the morning of to start searching for a place to get a cake. Big mistake. After calling about 15 bakeries nearby, we finally came across one that had what we were looking for. We took a trip all the way from Montclair to Matawan hoping it would be worth it. IT ABSOLUTELY WAS!!!! We came in and had so many options to choose from. We decided on creme brûlée cupcakes and a chocolate buttercream cake. The desserts looked so good I actually had to eat one of the cupcakes before even getting out of the bakery!!! It was amazing! I actually don't even want to eat non-vegan cakes anymore because everything I tasted here was legit a slam dunk! So moist and tasty...you would never know it was vegan/gluten free. Everyone loved it..it was the highlight of the night. We also tried the coffee which was pleasantly tasty. They don't carry milk here so we had it with soy milk and it tasted awesome. Went there last week to get a sample of their items. I'm on a wheat free diet so I wanted to try some of their gluten-free items. All items are vegan but around half of their items are gluten free. Beautiful desserts are displayed and they even have bagels. I tried a few items but I want to go back soon for more. The workers are helpful: one was very friendly and the other was serious but very knowledgeable about the items. A woman before me wanted to purchase items for her son who is allergic to wheat, nuts, soy and dairy products so the serious knowledgeable worker was able to help her. The desserts were delicious but the donut was a little hard. They are open seven days a week and late (8 on Saturday). The prices were a bit high for a bakery but I understand due to their specialty ($14 for 4 small items). I will go back there soon. This was our first time trying vegan items. We really went in because of the gluten free menu, but were not impressed. Don't know if it was because they're all vegan, but the textures weren't right (We bought several different items). The brownie was very chewy, like it was under baked (again, first time trying vegan brownie) and you could taste the almond flour. The creme brulee cupcake on the other hand was a little dry and the icing didnt taste right. The chocolate cupcake was great. However, we did notice various gluten free foods in the fridge section if you need a quick meal/snack. I'll leave a two start review for their effort and because everything in the store is clearly labeled Vegan or Vegan/GF. Don't think we'll be coming back here for gluten free items though. Came on an early Sunday morning to get some lunch goodies and a bagel. I ordered the everything bagel, a creme brûlée donut, 2 pints of Mac & cheese, and 2 pints of penne vodka. I had the donut while it was fresh- it was extremely sweet but the flavors were great! I could only eat half of it in one sitting because it was a little heavy. I ended up saving the bagel for the next day- it became rock hard even when I tried to rehear it but I loved that they weren't shy on the everything seasoning! This bakery gives a point (or two) in the yes column of reasons to eat vegan. Home of over a dozen varieties of cupcakes, several flavors of biscotti, and possibly the best blueberry crumb muffin I've had in my life, Papa Ganache is a winner. I sat enjoying my blueberry crumb muffin with a cup of coffee on a chilly Saturday afternoon. Neither bad weather nor off-hours deterred the steady flow of patrons, and I could understand why. The brew was strong and delicious, although remember that soy milk will be your add-in option vs dairy based milk (vegan - remember?). The small bistro tables inside and out were inviting and comfortable for people flying solo or in small groups. One larger table could probably fit 6-8 comfortably. I'd like to order a cake from here in the future, and could see the fun of hosting a "cupcake wars" birthday party for little ones (or myself!) with one of the package deals. This is not the Italian bakery I normally lean toward, but with such fresh, well executed buns and cupcakes - I'm in! Note to self - not all things vegan are necessarily low in calories. There was a huge vegan dessert sign painted on the outside wall near the parking lot. I walked in and felt like I was in vegan dessert heaven. They even had soft serve ice cream, which I haven't had in over a year! They have three dessert cases, one of that is solely gluten-free. Online the bakery states "All items are vegan AND gluten free" but upon entering the bakery only one small section was gluten free. Anyway we decided to try some of the items that were gluten free. We got 2 everything bagels that were very tasty but super hard and dense, the rainbow cookies were very good, the coffee cake is very dry with a terrible aftertaste, a brownie stick which was as hard as a rock .. and a couple other items that were just okay. Totally random but fabulous little find on my last trip to NJ. Tried their two Cupcake Wars winning cupcakes (won April 2013) and 2 additional ones. Everything tasted really good and high quality ingredients were used. The frosting to cake ratio on some of the cupcakes is 3:1, others 0.5:1, but mostly 1:1. The winning cupcakes: 1. Creme brûlée: vanilla cake laced with custard filling and topped with vanilla frosting covered in a crunchy, caramelized, torched layer of sugar. 2. Pretzel double chocolate: chocolate cake with a dense chocolate ganache studded with pretzels. Other two: 3. Berry banana: mixed berry frosting on banana cake. 4. Elvis: peanut butter frosting studded with peanuts and chocolate dipped plantain chip on banana cake. The winners were good but left something to be desired. Lack of freshness might be the cause. The creme brûlée was somewhat difficult to bite into through the hard crispy top and the cake itself could've used more custard because otherwise it's just a vanilla cake with vanilla icing covered in burnt sugar. The pretzels were stale and that ruined the experience of the other one. The cake was generic and the ganache, while decadently rich and thick, seemed hard like it had recently been in the fridge aka not fresh. Pretzels had that post-fridge soggy/stale consistency too. Could've worked well if made fresh. Nothing mind blowing about the flavor profile however. The peanut butter banana was yummy as you'd expect and even though I've had better, I don't have any negatives for this besides to say that the flavors didn't pack as much punch as they could have. The most unique and memorable was the berry banana. The frosting was AMAZING to behold as well as to eat. Really a visual delight with a fluffy but slightly crunchy frosting due to the mixed berry seeds. The subtle berry flavor paired well with the banana cake of course. I think they should've won with this cupcake! They had samples of cinnamon sugar dusted donuts (regular and gluten free) which are only made on weekends. They were good but not as soft and fluffy as I was hoping. The employee helping me was very friendly, attentive, and helpful. The shop is tiny but does boast a few tables inside as well as outside the storefront. I love little shops like this where you can tell from the thoughtfulness and creativity how much heart was put into the final product. These are not your generic grocery store cupcakes! High quality ingredients are used, the desserts are visually beautiful, and taste superb. All while being vegan and offering gluten free options. Just an FYI that they also serve a lot of other goodies too (cookies, coffee, savory food, etc) but why bother when there are so many varieties of cupcakes to try?! Not 5 stars because the cupcakes are quite pricey while being relatively small (~$4) and they served me stale versions of their award winners. Not cool for the price I had to pay. Also, no signage exists in the cupcake display case so you have to ask the staff every detail about each cupcake's ingredients etc. which is a bit annoying and tough to remember when going through the entire case. Papa Ganache offers a variety of desserts, but they're probably most well known for their vegan cupcakes. My boyfriend picked up six of their cupcakes, and I have to say that I was pretty impressed! We tried the chocolate chip cookie dough, peanut butter banana, pretzel chocolate, rainbow cake, samoa, and creme brulée. All of the cupcakes had great presentation -- the frosting designs were innovative and the various toppings added a lot in terms of visual eye candy. As far as taste goes, their cakes tend to be a bit denser than other cupcakes I've tried--perhaps because of the vegan ingredients?-- but that may also be because I ate the cupcakes a few hours after we bought them. They weren't overly sweet, and they all had some sort of filling related to the flavor (rainbow cake, for instance, had a fruit jam). My personal favorites were the creme brulée and the chocolate chip cookie dough (decorated as the Cookie Monster! adorbs). They're definitely a great place to try the next time you have a hankering for some sweets. From what my boyfriend told me, the service was impeccable, and they even took the time to write the names of the cupcakes on the plastic container so we could tell them apart.
