I love a great old greasy spoon breakfast place. I have to admit right off the bat for everyone reading this. My four stars are mainly because the homemade raisin bread is out-freaking-standing. I pretty much come here for that. The menu is typical diner menu. Corned beef and hash, is that our of a can hash. To put it mildly this place was disappointing. I'm surprised it got 4 out of 5 stars. I think the majority of these reviews might be from those who are of a certain age demographic and have lost their sense of taste or those who are on such a budget that coming here is more upscale than going to McDonalds. I ordered the French Toast. The slices were comparable to the thickness of the "Catcher in the Rye" book in paperback. I was hoping for more of a hardcover "Les Miserables" thickness to the bread--Sad face. There was no cinnamon, no vanilla notes. It was like they dipped it in egg and drenched it with butter. *Bleh* Our friends ordered poached eggs. Someone needs to tell their cook how to properly cook one. Poached eggs should be cooked for about 10-12 minutes and it should be "soft", "creamy", not molten lava people. Do yourself a favor and get up now if you're seated here and go to Brunch Cafe. I stopped here for the first time on Saturday the 3rd for some food. Once i was seated I was greeted by my waitress Kristina and that was pretty much the only time I really spoke with her. She seemed interested in doing everything else but her job. In between moments of some of the most uninterested service I've ever received Kristina would appear to have the greatest time with her regulars, and she seemed attached by the hip to some guy named Rick who looked like upper management. I had the raspberry crepes and the meat-lover's croissant sandwich. The crepes were gross. It seemed like frozen raspberries were thawed and tossed on the crepes half heartedly. The raspberries were tart and not sweet. They weren't even red, leaning closer to brown. The croissant sandwich could have been good if it weren't for the fact that the sausages weren't caramelized. Sausage patties should have been used and the halved links kept sliding out of the sandwich. The bacon here is good and went well on the sandwich. Probably the only diner in Huntley where the old folks can sit around and shoot the shizola, it does not serve as a good enough excuse for the subpar dishes they serve here. Even the steak is actually a hamburger, brought out on a separate plate, swimming in grease. Our waitress was nice, but I wasn't fond of her dry humor over how much food I ordered. I actually had no idea what I wanted to eat, but I knew I wanted to shove a ton of food in my face, being the emotional eater that I am. Nice variety to choose from on the menu for breakfast and lunch. We sit at the counter rather than wait for a table since we always end up here at peak times. I can't attest to the quality of the table service but the counter service has been good. The food has always come out really fast, too, even when they are really busy. This is a solid family restaurant - nothing fancy, no gourmet food - just simple good home-style cooking. Homemade bread is great - raisin bread is to die for. (They sell the loaves, according to menu.) This restaurant was recommended to us by dental office across the way. Parking lot is always packed. So finally, we went in and walked out happy campers. Big menu, lots of selection, some greek food (as you could guess from the name of the restaurant). Son had gyro sandwich - looked awesome, he ate it all. (I'll order that the next time.) Daughter had cheeseburger - again - looked good. She's a very fussy and light eater, so no, she didn't eat it all - but no surprise. Husband had club - it was great, with turkey carved from the bone - no processed turkey here. I had salmon dinner - not the best I've had but solid and the price was right. The onion rings were great! Decor is lacking - very utilitarian, simple and bright lighting - but who cares? The food is good and the price is right! Overall clean. All told, with 1 appetizer, soup/salads, dinner, 2 desserts and tip we spent $42. Great value for families with kids! Who knows more about country breakfasts then farmers? They have a great menu, the food is fresh, the coffee is good and they serve ham off the bone as your sides. I've always loved Papa G's. Their food is consistently good. The daily specials change so much that you can't keep up. Today I'm having the country fried steak. Absolutely fantastic. The food is a great value. The waitresses are always a lot of fun. After a few times they will recognize you and greet you by name. Their only downfall is I wish they would serve fresh vegetables instead of canned. They could also skip the canned mashed potatoes and go with the real if they took a little extra time. The Decour in the restaurant is fairly old. I'm sure it was charming and it's day. Ceiling tiles are yellow and stained by water spots. I wish they would give the place as much attention as they do to the customers and the waitresses! We will always be back. read more

The breakfast here is very good and the prices are inline with Burnt Toast or other similar local places. The difference here is the biscuits and gravy are outstanding. The homemade bread/toast is also amazing. The portions are huge and a great value. We've had breakfast and dinner here several times and can't complain about either menu. We tend to have the same two waitresses every time we visit and both are very nice and do their job well. They're very friendly and kind of give it that old school diner experience. I almost forgot... the busboy is outstanding and very tentative. When the place is super busy...and it usually is because of the great food... he fills the gap for the waitresses. He'll refill drinks and take finished plates away fast. He makes everything run very smooth and deserves big kudos! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is that the interior needs to be cleaned up... or even remodeled and the host is an older guy that doesn't ever say anything, walks you to a table, throws the menus on it, and walks away. Then he stands by the register and stares at his guests while they eat. He looks harmless and is probably a nice guy (if he spoke), but it's a little uncomfortable. When I asked to order eggs to be cooked a different way, I was immediately told off by the server. Our entire family went this year for Mother's Day. We have one baby and a toddler and they sat us right away. The staff was great helping to cater to our toddler and the atmosphere is laid back enough, like I would expect a diner to be, that our toddler was able to play a little. I have been coming to this restaurant for a few months now and had a good experience - until today - when I tried the NY strip and egg breakfast. They dumped au jus sauce all over it and ruined the flavor. While they offered to remake the steak - I didn't trust that it would be much better and asked for a skirt steak instead which is an option with the meal.
