Ordered pizza at 10:46pm was a little hesitant to do delivery but I had a drink and wasn't going to drive so I did delivery. I have ordered from this Papa Johns many times in the past and have never been so disappointed as the pizza I just got home with. I ordered a large The Works with extra sauce & cheese extra pepperoni & pineapple on half & seasoned crust. Wth is this? It's basically a medium pizza on a large crust. If I wanted bread I would have gotten breadsticks. You can see from the pictures that the toppings are so far from the edge it defies any kind of logic! I could halfway see if the crust was seasoned but it was bland and unflavored, which is not what I paid for, and the pineapple was missing also. After working all day and holidays coming up I wanted to treat myself with a nice pizza for dinner and frankly I am insulted by having been given such a sorry excuse for what they call a pizza. read more

We have ordered from Papa Johns many times. Some orders came out better than others. But tonight? Awful! We ordered two medium two topping pizzas and a chocolate chip cookie. The pizzas were doughy and dry. A third of each slice was dough. Dry dough. The cookie was so over baked and dry you couldn't stab it with a knife! $7.00 right in the trash. I've always loved Papa John's and this location is very good. I get my pizza well done and light sauce so just keep that in mind. Their pizza is so much better than other chains like Pizza Hut, Marcos, and Dominos. (Dominos absolutely destroys their dessert tho, don't get dessert from Papa John's unless it's the cookies because it usually comes hard.) I love their crust and the taste of their dough, cheese and pepperoni. Their Canadian bacon is delicious as well. Never got the hate for Papa Johns. read more

We ordered the XL NY Style Crust cheese pizza. I am not sure how they believe that is NY style crust, It tasted more like Pillsbury Dough boy pizza crust. What a disappointment. That was the worst pizza I have ever had. A simple cheese pizza should not be that difficult. We just got home from a 9hr drive from Florida and we're not in the mood to Cook so we ordered from your 251 NC 42 Ste 10 Clayton NC location. We ordered a half Italian and half cheese pizza with 16 Buffalo wings well done. The driver just dropped off our food and the pizza was not half cheese and the wings were barely cooked with no sauce. We called the store and we were given immediate attitude from the employee and had to fight to get it corrected. My wife and I already had a piece of our side but yet they wanted us to return the pizza. I really wish you had employees that can read and accept that they made a mistake read more

I love Papa John's thin crust, but unfortunately the papa John's on 42E is the most sub par pizza I have ever had. Every time I order, I feel like they purposely mess my food up. Papa Johns in Clayton on 42 really dropped the ball. We've done online ordering there for years, no problem, but this Halloween we had a problem. Ordered online for a 6pm delivery. Ordered more than 8 hours ahead since it's a busy day. 6 comes around and no pizza. Called around 6:30 to find out what was going on. Pizza wasn't made yet and wouldn't be ready until 8 pm. The staff and managers attitude was "sorry, not sorry. We're busy" which is why I ordered 8 hours early. Ordered on Halloween last year no problem. This year it was really badly managed, and communication was terrible. It's just a pizza but the most annoying part was the staff attitude. Well, they say that insanity can be defined as doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results. Given my experiences with this Papa John's location over the past several years, I guess I'm ready for a rubber room! On the rare occasion that the pizza arrives in a timely manner, it is actually pretty good. The spicy Italian has great flavor. Unfortunately, the service here is absolutely awful. I've been ordering from them every few months for several years in hopes that their service will improve. Orders routinely arrive 45-90 minutes after the promised delivery time (this location is at worst a 5 minute drive from my house). It doesn't matter if you order over the phone or on line. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza from Papa John's Pizza tonight and am I sorry that I wasted my money and time. I ordered the higher priced pizza because their description of it stated it had extra cheese and pepperoni in every bite. Since it had been a while since I had eaten pizza I decided to treat myself. I had a question that I could not find an answer on their website I tried to telephone the 251NC 42 East ste 10 Clayton NC 27772 branch. After only the automated sales talk and having to call the restaurant three times without getting to speak with a real person I gave that up and ordered my pizza. I have never received such a poor product. To start with it was barely warm at all. Then when I opened it up the cheese and pepperoni didn't even come close to the edge and it was not completely cut into wedges only on the edges. If there was any pizza sauce on it I couldn't find it and a bare minimum of cheese. It did have enough pepperoni on it though and that is why I gave it one star. But the product that I was delivered was not the product I chose from their online menu. Counting their delivery charge, taxes and deliver man's tip I spent over $27 which I was willing to do had the pizza been as described. I hope they enjoy every penny they got from me because it will be the last I spend with them. They definitely do not live up to the mark!! I'm going to keep this one simple. Papa John's is not what it used to be 10 years ago. And I mean that for ALL locations. Papa John's used to be exactly like what the commercial said "Better ingredients, better pizza.." Now I don't know what they did to said ingredients from 2008 to 2018 but something has changed.. and not for the better. The pizza sauce is Wayyyyy to sugary. Pizza sauce isnt supposed to taste sweet! I ordered from here last weekend and my first few bites almost made me throw up it was so disgusting. The meat was bland and so were the veggies. The only thing I can say that was good was that the delivery took no time at all. Now Papa Johns just needs to "Deliver" on making some pizza that is actually edible. Until then I will be going to mom-and-pop restaurants that actually put time and effort into what they make. It is also almost worth the drive to go to Mellow Mushroom.. they never disappoint. Monday I ate pizza from here and vomited 4 times overnight. Now I'm not a world class citizen and don't get much favor in these parts but that was not pure bliss. I drank water from the whirlpool so I didn't go one any alcoholic beverages with the pizza. When you think fast food the burger specialists come to mind. I would liken this place to that. I stopped using this location. In fact, I now use Dominos for delivery. The last incident was a 2 hour wait for the pizza. After 1 hour I called, they said it was out for delivery and there is no way to contact the driver for an update. After the 2nd hour had passed I got angry. The manager on duty was rude. I called the franchise owner. They made a new pizza and delivered it in about 15 minutes and comped it...but that doesn't make up for the disruption and frustration of getting a pizza 2:15 after placing the order. I live 5 minutes from this location. Drive time was not the issue. I have ordered from Dominos many times now by ohone and online. The pizza is on my doorstep in under 30min every time. read more

I regret having to write a negative review, however, after several experiences in ordering pizza, I felt the need to share with others my bad experiences. When they first opened I put their phone number in my cell phone. Sure enough, I called in a pick-up order and while the the pizza was O,K. the service was very poor. I tried again by calling in an order to be delivered. The delivery person did a great job, but when I opened the pizza it had about half ingredients it should. I tried a gain this past Thursday and I received the same. I ordered the special "The Works". It was the works alright, they got the works with my money. This Papa John's location is good with making and delivering pizzas. We've done both delivery and pickup at this location, and have ordered through using the app and by calling directly. They have gotten things right most of the time, and when something's not right, they are quick to find a remedy for the issue. The staff is courteous and helpful, and I like that the manager is there working with the crew and is approachable. I would recommend Papa John's. read more

I wish I could give them zero stars. I came into town for a convention. My hotel concierge recommended Papa John's over the other three places including Dominoe's pizza. I called to place my order. They guy on the phone was NOT the sharpest tool in the shed. Had to spell my name letter by letter four separate times. Then I had to spell Sleep Inn because saying it several times didn't get through to him even though the hotel is ACROSS THE STREET from them. Unbelievable. They quotes 45 minutes when it was all said and done and he had my California phone number. I waited downstairs in the lobby for over an hour. The hotel concierge finally called them. They voided my order! He asked for a manager and that person was no better. Could not for the life of them figure out where the hotel was no matter how many times he said the name, address, spelled the address, and that manager finally just hung up!!! The concierge tried to explain that he can no longer recommend Papa John's to his guests if they do this. He even pointed out that they deliver to the hotel all the time so why can't they figure out where it is tonight? *sigh* So I got on a plane at 3 am this morning in California, ate a bagel at the airport at 5:30 and haven't eaten since then. I have to say nice things about this location of PJ's on Highway 42 in Clayton. We've ordered from there a few times, and it's always been just fine. We typically choose to carry out because we live a mile away, and it's no bother to pick up. (And our driveway is kind of a nightmare to back out of, so we don't want to put a poor deliver driver through that.) Tonight, we placed an order for carry out, not realizing that because the store was closed for carry out (and open only for delivery), the order would bump to tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. When I paid and received this notice, my husband called to see if they could help. The order couldn't yet be seen in their system, and there was no way to cancel it. The manager went ahead and took our order over the phone, so we could pick up our dinner tonight. Very good customer service. Their ordering site seems to be a bit glitchy, which has to be frustrating for the manager, but he handled it in exactly the right way, assuring that we'll be back.
