While Aurelio's pizza might not technically be considered "tavern crust", it is absolutely one of the best examples of a thin pizza I've had. Over the years, Aurelio's have expanded to many locations in several states and today we found ourselves in La Porte, IN to once again sample pizza excellence. Our large mushroom half sausage came in about 15 minutes after ordering and looked perfect. I was so excited to begin eating I forgot to take a picture so you'll have to trust me that it looked as good as it tasted. We always order a large even though we can only eat about half in one sitting. This pizza reheats so well that we enjoy the rest later or the next day. Hard to describe and even more difficult to grasp if you're not from the Chicago area but real Chicago pizzas have what I call a "purity of Ingredients" where everything goes together so well. Here, the sauce is subtle but dominant. Over the years I've probably been to maybe 10-12 Aurelio's locations and the consistency is unbelievable. Service was great and the pizza was better!
