9/16/17 luau 1st birthday My husband purchased the $280 (50lb) + $20 delivery fee for our daughter's birthday luau. Papa J called the day before to see when we would like it to be delivered. They cook the pigs at 9am and 1pm. We were going to have them deliver at 1245pm but since the lechon would be more warm with the 1pm delivery, we decided to go with that. They arrived efficiently on the day of the event. The pig looked fantastic: the meat was juicy and the skin was crispy. We got compliments from all our guests. We ended having a tally of around 100 guests and we still had left over. I was very apologetic that my husband forgot the cash payment on his bedside table but they were willing to give us to time to pick up some cash from the ATM and they returned after another delivery. I was so very grateful because they did not make a big stink about this. Thank you papa Js for such a delicious pig and for your understanding of the whole payment situation. greatly appreciative :) I would recommend papa Js to anyone. For now, let me start off with 5 stars for Rommel. I was supposed to pay the downpayment for the pig, but it slipped my mind with everything going on around me. Fast forward a few weeks later, I noticed I haven't paid them yet. I call and Rommel picks up. Sadly, the Saturday I wanted was fully booked. I asked afterwards if I he had an order for a specific event that I ordered for weeks ago and he was able to confirm that he did still had that open. I'm less stressed now and just looking forward to the pig. I can tell these are friendly people. Thanks Rommel! You saved my life (: Will update review with pics after we get the pig! read more

These people are very, very profesional. They responded quickly, and they reminded us by text when they were delivering and updated me all the way to the ti w when the beautiful Lechon arrived. This beautifully done pig is at the center of our presentation for our daughter's wedding engagement party so it has to arrive early. It did! It was delicious and prices were reasonable! read more

The party package #2 was perfect for our backyard 60th birthday reggae event!! The medium lechon & sauce was excellent!! I asked for pre-cut squares on the lechon fir easier attack! Pancit Malabong was my fav!! Veggie lumpia a hit too along with Shanghai lumpia (xtra addition)... turon went fast (also requested to cut in half)...will definitely make them my go-to caterer. They have homemade acthar (pickeled papaya) which is to die for! Delivery charge $60 to Palmdale is worth it!! THE BEST LECHON WE TASTED. Even our guests said that they never tasted a lechon as tasty as Papa J's. Very soft. It has crunchy and stayed crunchy. very meaty. Everyone had to go food! Ordered thru messenger a month before, gave a deposit via Zelle and then paid in full when it was delivered. Paid $20 for delivery and it was worth it. They delivered earlier than agreed. What a great find and so close to home! My husband's sibings bought this for his 50th bday celebration last night. They live in West Covina and were loyal customers for years to one store. Due to the staff being rude to them this time when they tried to order, they decided to bring their business elsewhere. The staff here are very nice. Delivery was even early 30 min and it was raining. Being Chinese myself, we dont like any part of the pig burnt...tips of ears..tails etc. I know this can't be helped in the cooking process, but this pig came out perfect! Nit a burnt end anywhere!!! Crispy on the outside and the meat was nice and tender and juicy. Why 4 and not 5 star? The price is expensive but not really for what you get, but not everyone can aford $370 for a 70lb pig. I think to better share their fabulous cooking skills, they should go back to offerring smaller size pigs so it can be more affordable and enjoyed by more families. Sadly in this economy, this eliminates alot of families . I know they offer pork belly rolls ehich are smaller, but not the same as a whole pig. I usually get my roast pigs for my celebrations at a Chinese bbq place but this pig is far superior in the way it was cooked. Certainly the customer service is much better here. My hesitation in ordering from this place for my family is again..the size. My husband's side of the family is way bigger than mine. Again..no hesitation to recc this place to others except I would think twice knowing what i know about the limited sizes of the pigs offered. read more

One bad review is one too many and this is another one if them. We were very disappointed at the LECHON that my nephew bought for her Mom's birthday. Right away my brother ( his Dad) and I noticed that the LECHON looked overcooked in fact some parts were burnt. There was no consistency in the crunchiness of the skin which for Filipinos is the gold standard of a LECHON's eat worthiness and added to that was the lack of flavor. Reading the other bad reviews confirmed our complaint because they run along the same lines, either uncooked or overcooked, lack of crunchiness and flavor. You badly need to improve your quality control or you will be getting a lot more complaints ! read more

I had bookmarked this place many months ago due to its great reviews. I was waiting as I was not sure when I was going to try it. We wanted to appreciate our employees for a job well done in October. I proposed a Lechon as it would be something different to what people would normally eat. There was mixed feelings amongst employees. In the end, everyone was willing to try it as it was at no cost to them :) I called last week and Rommel answered the phone. He let me know that a weeks notice would be doable. So, I called him on the 5th to confirm the Lechon for the 11th. The quoted price was 50 lbs Lechon - $270.00 (Feeds 40 people) 70 lbs Lechon - $300.00 (Feeds 60 people) $20.00 for delivery. Rommel recommended rice, salad or tacos as a way to eat the lechon. His preferred carb was rice, he said. So I placed an order for the 70 lbs Lechon. I received a phone call on the 10th as a gentle reminder that Rommel would bring the pig at 10:30 AM on the 11th. As committed to, the Lechon was delivered at 10:30 promptly. We got Mexican rice, refried beans, Onions, Cilantro and Hot salsa from Mariscos La Playita to go along with the Lechon. Colleagues, other than a few that had tried this before, were a little tentative. The sight of a whole pig cooked generated mixed reactions. One of my colleagues and I started sectioning the pig, and started serving away to hungry staff. Many employees came back for seconds and most of the Pig was devoured in a few minutes. Pros: Extremely good follow through, customer service and communication from Rommel (+1) The Pig was deliciously moist, tender and flavorful. The skin was crispy. (+2) The Pig was piping hot when we opened the packaging. It remained hot during the course of our lunch. Cons: None. I will most definitely order a Lechon from them in the future. read more

Note - if you're picking up, the address is correct. It's a residential address and if you call when you arrive, Romel will come out and even load your order into your vehicle for you. Also, if you're reading this, remember to check in for a Yelp discount. So - my cousin's second birthday, it's Go Big or Go Home. Or is it, Go Pig or Go Home. Whatever the case, my aunt and uncle went with a pig and I picked it up for them. For days, you could smell roasted pig in my car which didn't bother me so much; except now, I don't think I want to eat pork for a while. On to the pig - awesome skin. If you like the skin that is. As for the meat, a little on the dry side and some parts, a little salty, but when you're from Hawaii, where salt is just another food group, it's okay. For the price, for what you get - including the sauce (several bottles), if you like Lechon, this is way to go. read more

First time to order a full lechon from Rommel of Papa J's and couldn't be happier. The lechon was cooked perfectly: juicy but well cooked in the inside and insanely crispy on the outside. The meat was tender and so flavorful that lechon sauce wasn't required; although they do include Mang Tomas in the purchase. We served it in a family gathering and it was an absolute hit for everyone. Papa Js only offered 2 sizes: medium and large. We ordered the medium and it was plenty big. Compared to other lechon vendors, Papa Js weight is based after the pig has been cleaned; no organs or innards. Some will sell you the pig before it is dressed so you will get half of what you are expecting; not Papa Js. Customer service was also top notch. Rommel answered my calls and text messages. Lechon was ready at agreed upon time of pick up and it was still piping hot. They will load it in your car too. Highly recommend and will definitely order again. Thanks Rommel!! read more

It's pointless for me to do another review. The lechon we got for Thanksgiving is still the best as always!! Your lechon tastefulness and deliciousness is consistently amazing. I think this the fourth lechon we have ordered and devoured from you, and each time it is always two thumbs up. The pig skin is crunchy until the late evening, unlike other lechon we have ordered before around San Fernando valley. In fact, it was steaming hot when we opened it. The left over and carcass meat have now become paksiw na lechon (lechon-left-over stew). Everyone in the party all have good words for your lechon. I have given them your name and phone number. I really want to give a good review since I have been expecting a very good lechon. However, the lechon we had was not fully cooked. It could be because of it's size; nevetheless it's your obligation to provide a fully cooked one. Make sure you have enough men to carry the lechon to the exact table, what if no other were men available nearby? Paying for a $40 delivery fee is enough to make sure it will be placed on my table. We were all disappointed because we were more from a caterer with such good reviews on yelp. Anyway, attached were photos of the lechon last saturday. We tasted Papa J's Lechon in a party...it was moist and the skin crispy, so we ordered one for our family's joint birthday celebration, and what a disappointment! The lechon appeared overcooked...meat was dry and skin not crispy! It was suppose to be the main dish, so we were worried. I called and was told they cooked 15 lechons that day. They cannot replace the lechon so they gave me part refund. I will NOT order nor refer them. It is a hit and miss and they are not consistent with the quality of what they are selling. placed an order for my daughters 1st birthday. They were telling us to order now because of how busy they knew they were going to be memorial weekend, so we did. We confirmed the date time and delivery. We even confirmed that they got my 100 deposit. Here comes the day of the party and we waited and waited for the lechon til finally we decided to call 30 mins after the delivery time. They answered and they had no clue we had an order. Had to send them screenshots of texts for proof. Apologetic, but sounded extremely rude and mad about it like it was our fault. Offered us a "discount. Very unprofessional. We a repeat customer too. Went with the "smaller" size pig and still was surprisingly BIG. Not complaining, just a side note. Overall, the pig was juicy delicious from the inside and crunchy in the outside all the way around! (Be sure to provide accurate food serving time for your event so you allow delivery personal to deliver a crunchy pig). read more

Ngek! 3rd time to order the first 2 was perfect but this 3rd time we were not so lucky . My order was so dry very very dry so very disappointing. We paid $320 for a crappy no flavor matigas sobrang tuyo ng laman and yung balat parang inuyat hindi mo manguya muntik na mabali ang pustiso ko!
