I'm seeing all these posts on social media, how Florida has some really good pizza spots?! As long as there are spots like La Casa Bella in Brooklyn, I know those Florida claims are from people who left New York. My work buddy who used to work in this section of Brooklyn told me this is the best pizza Brooklyn has to offer. Then my Yelp buddy Lesley O. messaged me and said I have to try this spot. Sold! I'm going to have a slice at La Casa Bella. Walking in at noon, I have the place to myself. Nothing fancy at La Casa Bella, the restaurant looks like a typical New York pizza joint. There are people coming in to pick up whole pies. First time here I'm going in with their famous Vodka slice & Grandma Sicilian slice. The people behind the counter are nice, we all start chatting about the neighborhood (I won't tell them I live in Stony Brook) I grab a soda and take the table by the window. First bite of the Vodka slice, all I can say is wow! Everything is fantastic on this pizza: the sauce is award winning, the quality of the cheese and the dough has the right amount of thin with a wonderful undercarriage, This pizza was cooked just right. Florida couldn't touch this pizza with a 10 foot pole. First time here, I'm 5 Yelp stars out of the gate. Next time I visit, I'm ordered a whole, just out of the oven pizza. read more

The food overall can be good, with a comforting homestyle feel, though the execution can be a bit inconsistent at times rather than feeling fully refined or consistent. The vibe is very much a neighborhood Brooklyn Italian spot, casual and no frills. Service is too laid back, more of a straightforward order at the counter style experience rather than traditional sit down dining. It is usually not very busy for dine in when I go, with more takeout orders and solo diners stopping in for quick meals. Food wise, I have not tried their pizzas yet. The Francese was good, while the veal missed the mark for us, a bit chewy and slightly off, though it may have just been that particular cut. Chicken Francese was better but the pasta came out too tart. The Marsala and clam sauce are fine and decent, but dont particularly stand out compared to other Italian spots in Brooklyn. I love this place, I've been here several times for dinner and the food never disappoints. I've also ordered takeout from here and while delicious the pies definitely taste better when eaten here. Dear friends now this is a real true story we went for dinner five people last week we asked for the check and they just gave us what the total of the check was instead of the regular check that all the food items are listed sure behold on that check they had a tip included But we were never handed that check. We were handed the check for the credit card only thank God my friend asked for the original check and we noticed the tip was on there. La Casa Bella is the local Italian spot that I order from when I want to feel like I'm visiting my friend's Nonna's house for Sunday supper. The chicken Marsala is outstanding, plain and simple. You know you're in for a treat when the mushrooms are sautéed with a smidge of onions and the robust flavor of the wine sauce hits your nostrils within seconds. I always order angel hair with the same sauce and it's just perfection. The pizza here is also delicious and exactly what you think of when you think of the quintessential NY style pizza: thin, crispy, and crunchy crust with tons of flavor and high quality cheese and ingredients. Hands down, you will find the best Vodka slices, both Sicilian style and Neapolitan style topped with fresh mozzarella. The plain slice and OMG slice are also great. I recently tried this neighborhood pizzeria and honestly, it was a disappointment. The place had an overpowering smell of Pecorino Romano cheese that hit you as soon as you walked in--way too strong and not pleasant. I ordered the penne vodka plate, which for some ungodly reason was priced at $28 Pasta portion was small, and the flavors didn't justify the steep price. Strong 3.5 out of 5. Pizza here is good and gets the job done when you're starving and find yourself in south Brooklyn where there's no shortage of pizzerias. The eggplant pan slice is pretty good. Thick slices of eggplant on a pan slice with fresh mozzarella and sauce. The dough itself wasn't heavy at all and I could've easily went for another. White slice is fairly unique here in that they add chopped garlic and olive oil which brings it a step above the rest that usually leave it plain. It was good. Sicilian square was ok. I am a sucker for a nice vodka slice so a buddy of mine recommended this in comparison to Spumoni Gardens. Had the traditional vodka slice even though the vodka Sicilian was calling my name.. I would give this restaurant a five star because the food is delicious. I think that their lasagna that I always order is the best ever and this time I ordered the eggplant parmesan which was also delicious. The waitress is very friendly and the bus girl came back like every 10 minutes to make sure that we didn't need anything. The only reason I took away a star is because I am all about principle and what they do about the bill is not right. When the waitress brought the bill, I saw that there was a paper attached to the holder mentioning a 3.8% service charge for paying with a credit card and also a 4% operational fee which I knew nothing about. I showed my phone to the waitress with the law as of February 2024 explaining having to,,by law, mention any of these charges to the patron before they order, and not after, and also including these charges in the price of the item itself on the menu. A lot of restaurants do not want to do this because it cost too much to change the menu prices. She said that it is not her fault and to come back the next day to speak to the manager, although I think they were closed today, Monday, anyway. She said that they have a sign up front where you order pizza although that does not help people who are seated in the dining room. We would never see such a sign although I did not go up there to check it. FYI , they charge you $15 if you bring your own bottle of wine, even if you bring your own opener and own glasses. read more

Orecchiette was good. The pasta felt a bit over cooked but it could be from the packaging. The calamari had a pop, nice chew, and nice light breading. THE RED SAUCE! That was superb. I have been dining here for years and can't believe I have not reviewed La Casa Bella.. birthdays, get togethers and just wanting delicious Italian food in a chill vibe atmosphere has been reasons why we dine here . I believe this restaurant started out as a pizzeria and expanded. It's a classic neighborhood eatery with owners who deliver consistent warm customer service. The owner always comes to talk to diners, especially long term clientele. This offers a personable experience which has an authentic ring to it...I like that! Now for the food.. La Casa Bella offers excellent down home Italian fare with classics such as Shrimp parmigiana, Mozzarella sticks, Veal Marsala, Chicken francese and I can go on and on. I've tried just about all the chicken dishes over the years and enjoyed every entree. Unfortunately, I'm not a die hard fan of their pizza.. Bay Ridge and Bushwick serve better pizza. We always share Caesar Salad and fried calamari with mild/spicy sauce on the side. The dressing on the Caesar is lip smacking good( use the generous portion of bread to sop up extra sauce) and the Calamari and both marinara sauces are delicious; just wish it was prepared crispy. I've also eaten my all time fave Linguini with clams in a white sauce which is a golden standard. Tonight I wanted to try something different: grilled shrimp with spinach ( substituted for broccoli), farfalle in garlic and oil. I loved the shrimps( big and plentiful) but the spinach overwhelmed the dish and there was no taste: garlic and oil barely present. I should have asked for a light portion of spinach. My friends ordered Veal Marsala and Chicken parmigiana frequently and always rave. The desserts are decadent: the tartufo is a standout and pistachio, chocolate and vanilla are pretty much always flavor options. The chocolate lava cake with a side of tortoni is also a standout. Here some unfortunate disconnects: our waitress who served us,not who placed our orders, was a bit off: if we ask for new utensils please say yes with a smile, asked for tartufo and she stated " I'm not sure if we have it due to a fridge problem?"Really? I ordered an iced cappuccino and she states " we don't have that, only hot" thus my friends show her it's listed on the menu. She states " I'm used to serving patrons who dined in the winter and don't order iced capps ." Serve large pasta entrees in a bowl, large plates really don't work ( chicken parmigiana) and shellfish needs a small bowl to dispose tails. Look I hate to complain.. this is a great restaurant however, staff needs to be on point.. how about " Let me check that for you" vs " We don't have that" goes a long way. La Casa Bella is accessible via different modes of transit: X28/X38 bus leaves you 4 minute walk from eatery. Popped in yesterday with my husband and oldest son for an impromptu dinner. Place wasn't too busy when we first got there but was packed and had people waiting by the time we were having dinner. I had come here for years and it is one of the places i miss most about Brooklyn since moving. I don't care about what the critics say, Portnoy is an idiot. This place is solidly 10 on their vodka square. The OMG and Bruschetta are also easily over 9s! If there isn't a line outside this door (or even if there is) you should head in and grab a box of slices to try for yourself and decide. Best vodka pizza I've had. I didn't like vodka pizza until I've had theirs! Thin crust with tons of vodka sauce and melty cheese on top. $26 for one pie. It's so good, my mother decided to order it two times in a week. Their sauce is so creamy and delicious and I love that they put sesame seeds on the crust.
