After a minute or so I spoke up asking him if we could go sit in a booth. He grunted "yes" and then grabbed some menus. The area straight ahead from the hostess station / entrance was a long aisle of booths with just a twosome sitting in a booth. We followed the grump to the booth where he placed menus which was located directly behind the couple. Since about 9+ booths were vacant I pointed to a booth at the end of the opposite side from where he had dropped us. He looked at me and grunted "six top". Never ever hearing what was meant by a "six top", I thought he might be recommending one of their pizza specialties. I once again asked - pointing to the booth where the four of us would rather be seated. We could tell it was bit larger than where we had been dropped. The four of us planned to order several pizzas along with cocktails and beer so the roominess was needed. Once again he grunted "six top" and pointed to the booth where he had originally placed the menus grunting it was a "four top". We pulled out a pizza translation dictionary (doesn't everyone have one?) and now we understood he wasn't recommending any pizza specialties. He meant the "six top" was a booth for groups of six. Gosh! I wonder where a group of five sits... if they want a "top" booth? One of our friends spoke up after he grunted that he has evening reservations for "six tops". Our friend said, "It's 3 PM. The place is virtually empty and we don't see anyone coming in. If your reservationist are coming in at 7 PM we should be gone by then." The man then reluctantly grunted "ok" like he was doing us a big favor to go ahead and sit in a "six top"! He then walked away grimacing. During this timeframe we were well aware of the blasting music being aired. The music was playing so loud. As seniors we grew up with rock music - and attended rock concerts - so we know loud music and enjoy it at a stadium rock concert but this was not a stadium. We hadn't yet moved to the "six top" as we now want to reevaluate what we had just experienced with this frigid grunting host. It was so loud my husband had to SHOUT across the "four top" to our friends. Our friends said they felt uncomfortable and unwelcomed. The old man host was very rude and had an EXTREMELY bad attitude. We can't understand why he was hired for such a hospitality position!? We decided we had no choice but to leave. We drove across the street to our long time favorite Chinese restaurant...the House of Emperor. If you want a fabulous place to dine - outstanding food, nice soft music, and excellent hospitality and service you will find it there.. The booths are larger than a "4 top" - and very comfortable!
