I'll start by saying don't sleep on this place just because it's connected to the gas station. The food is definitely worth stopping through. They are always patient and helpful anytime I go. That alone made a strong first impression. Now, on to the food. The burger itself was decent, but I couldn't help feeling like it was missing something. Mainly... seasoning. It wasn't bland exactly, but it lacked that extra punch of flavor that really makes a smash burger memorable. A little more salt and pepper--or even some house seasoning--could really take things up a notch. Then there's the bun. I'm all for a soft bun, but in this case, it just wasn't up to the job. Between the toppings, sauces, and the meat, the bun collapsed under pressure. By the time I got home, it was soggy beyond saving. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to toast the buns for some extra structure or switch to a sturdier option that can hold up to the weight of everything going on inside. As for the fries, they've got potential, but this is where the packaging let things down. They hand you your meal in an open-topped paper bag, which might be fine for a quick trip down the street, but for anyone driving more than five minutes, the fries get cold fast. They'd do well to take a page from In-N-Out's book with closed bags or lidded boxes to help keep the heat in and the fries fresh. To be fair, I think eating at Papa Smash fresh, on-site, would give you a much better experience. The flavors are there, and the food clearly has heart behind it, but it just doesn't hold up well for takeout. So if you're craving a smash burger and happen to be nearby, park the car, grab a table, and eat it hot. Would I go back? Sure, but next time, I'm staying put. I had the bacon smash burger and fry's. My first recommendation is order the burger without sauce because it's impossible to eat without numerous napkins and falls apart easily. I have been to Papa Smash several times but today was a huge disappointment. I ordered the Bacon smash burger, fries and a coke. The burger was completely saturated with sauce. Wet and disgusting. I was shocked because I have never had a situation like this before at this spot. I was on my lunch break so I decided that I would eat it anyway. It was a mess! Finally got to stop by and give them a try. The restaurant itself is small but super cute- it's next to, but not in a gas station, and they don't have a ton of seating so I imagine when it's the normal busy times, it probably gets pretty packed. The service was phenomenal. So friendly, attentive and helpful. They brought extra sauces and peppers for us, checked on us and inquired if we needed anything and how our food was. For a fast food place, they definitely go above and beyond. Now, the food- everything was so fresh and truly delicious. The burgers were flavorful, the sauce (we liked the spicy sauce) was amazing! And the fries were great too. Beyond happy that this place is nearby, and has to be one of our top favorite burger places. The prices are great too. Honestly, nothing bad to say.
