What a fun place and Gunsmoke was on the television! We ordered fried chicken that came with collard greens, sweet potato soufflé, 2 rolls, rice and gravy. All made by the same chef that's been there 16 years. The food was delicious and the fried chicken tasted like my mama's (which is a very high compliment!) $20 for two meals. We were there in October so Halloween was everywhere from tablecloths with pumpkin pictures to tall spooky looking characters scattered around. The service was great also. This is truly a LOCAL burger joint. You will end up with a better meal and meals for three people for the price of one for the common chain places that are all along I-95 and have equally horrible to okay reviews. I do not have any comment on the quality of the ground beef and dogs they source but assuming that is at least in the acceptable range of quality for human consumption the place is pretty amazing. Friendly window service and a choice to dine in though I did not explore inside. For me it was an order from the window and a lunch not far away from the car. Not sure how this place is a "Drive In" but I am not going to ding it on those terms. Was really disappointed after all the Yelp hype. I basically skipped eating. My son ate the chicken and it was okay, but the rolls with the chicken, and my burger bun smelled and tasted like chemicals. It was really cheap bread, beyond its last day, and like off-gassing or something. I couldn't eat. Did not let my son touch the bread, despite how much he loves bread. The prices weren't bad, but the quality of food was not amazing and I just don't get these reviews... which misleadingly dragged me off the highway and got my money. Maybe I'm not ordering some secret menu items the locals get, but my food was inedible. read more

Order ahead and pick up your order. It's an old fashion drive up take out place. Yet I don't suggest showing up without putting in your order at the line and waiting. Many people seemed to be standing around bewildered. Call it in and give time, time and show up. My wife and I had the steak burger with onion sauce and sides. Delicious. read more

We stopped at a motel In Dillon on our way back from a trip to Florida. This was the only non-chain restaurant we could find, so we went here. On the positive side, if you want some local color, this is the place for you. They offer various southern dishes, including fried gizzards & liver. On the negative side, the food is terrible. At the recommendation of the local folks at the next table, I had the hamburger steak dinner, which consists of hamburger smothered in onion gravy + fries + cole slaw + 2 rolls. I ate maybe 3 bites & couldn't eat any more of it. Also, they ignore safety protocols, as they don't ask people to wear masks. And the waitress doesn't wear one. read more

This is a great place for lunch or dinner. They have a big menu. I'm talking about from corn dogs and fries to hamburger stake and fries to fries popcorn shrimp. They have some great fried chicken livers and gizzards.?All of which are great. I love there lemonade and tea. There closed on Monday and Sunday. Most holidays they are closed as well. We ordered the lunch special which comes with 2 fried chicken (cooked to perfection) my bf said it's the best one he's ever had! Upon first glance, papa toms looks like a small roadside shack. It has a small parking lot and a very plain looking building. Don't be filled by its looks however, it is a little gem just waiting to be found. I ordered a double cheeseburger, onion rings, and a 4 piece fried chicken meal. It sounds like a decent amount of food, but it only cost me $12. On top of that, I wasn't expecting the burger to include two half pound patties. This thing was juicy and delicious, nit to mention taller than it was wide. It's the type of burger most people are used to paying $15 for with maybe a side of fries included. Next we go to the fried chicken. It's some of the best you can ever get. They bread it in a thin crispy batter and truly let the hot juicy chicken shine. It's well seasoned and has just the right amount of crunch. If you're headed down 95 through the top of South Carolina, then you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't take a 10 minute detour through Dillon to get head to Papa Tom's. This place was made for road-trippers. It'll fill your tank without breaking the bank. P.S. I stopped here on my drive from Savannah, GA to Wilmington, SC. It's a few miles off the highway and definitely worth the trip. We ordered two Papa Burgers (double cheeseburger with chili and onions) and a side of fries along with two drinks, and it came to $12.99. Very reasonably priced, and sooooooooooo delicious. Amazing sweet tea also!!! They were so friendly, and it seemed like all the staff knew their customers. What a lovely place to visit! The fried chicken was A-OK! potato salad did not appear to be home made but the fried okra was amazing. This was a refreshing change from the usual fast food choices on the freeway. Amazing place to eat! We were visiting for the holiday and stopped by when we saw the yelp reviews. We were not dissapointed. I had a bacon cheeseburger(the best i have ever eaten), my daughter had the popcorn shrimp dinner my granddaughter had a 2 piece chicken dinner and she loved it, my husband and daughters fiance also had burgers and they were awesome too. I've eaten there a couple of time. The food is pretty basic. Although I've seen several good reviews on here about the quality of the food, I wasn't too impressed with. However, they give you generous portions of whatever you order. I guess I'm very strange about food because I don't even like Olive Garden or Red Lobster's restaurants.
