While I would not seek Papacito's for white tablecloth style fine dining it is incredibly fresh, friendly, and fun. A group of us met there before softball a few weeks ago, brought a bunch of drinks, and had a great time. Papacito's was agreeable to letting us use their refrigerator for our beers and also supplied cups. We all ordered from the extremely reasonably priced menu and devoured the fresh deliciousness before us. I had the enchiladas and did not regret my choice, though everything looked equally good. I ordered a taco salad, and what came out was much more like some mix between mexican and chinese food! There was cooked spinach and cooked, shredded carrots in it. Not only was it soggy, but there were also mushrooms- I have never seen mushrooms, spinach, and carrots in any mexican food ever. On top of that, there wasn't a piece of tomato to be found. Every time I order from here I pray the food gets better. Somehow, God isn't listening. The veggie tacos are down right disgusting. Who in creation puts sauteed, unsalted spinach in a taco? It's Mexican food, greasy style--let's not try to get all Rick Bayless here people. The chips are thick, stale and you can basically see through them. The one good thing is a vegan wrap but why serve it with refried beans on the side?! This makes no sense. The people are always rude and just uninviting and really, this place needs to get a menu/staff makeover stat. I think I've seen the last of this place. I work within a block of this restaurant and I honestly never noticed it. It's a small hole-in-the wall restaurant that doesn't look too appealing from the outside but don't let that fool you because the food is good and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The menu is nothing particularly special; just your typical Mexican restaurant menu, but they do have a small list of salads that you'd expect to see at Panera if you're craving a quasi-gourmet salad instead of Mexican food. The prices are on point with the quality and portion size. If you're in the hood, I'd say check it out, but I wouldn't say it's worth the trip if you're not. I am giving it only 3 stars for its lack of something special, you know, that special oomph that makes a place stand out. I think people rave about this place because there aren't many burrito joints in that part of Lakeview and Papacito's satisfies that need, but that's not a good enough reason for me. read more

I've been here a couple times, the 1st time I popped in because the name, "Papacito's" caught my eye. I mean, come on... Papacito....doesn't that mean "little daddy?" Anyways, yes...this place is for people who like to think they're adventurous, but without getting too "ethnic." Mexican dive restaurant with decent portions for the price. The chips are freshly made and it is BYOB. I would recommend the nachos for starters as they are each individually made instead of piling all the ingredients on a plate of chips. The employees are so helpful, they work with your budget, and even are able to help out in last minute situations. The food is always great and well presented. Ordered with cash via delivery.com and had a bigger bill so I called to make sure they had change. They called me back saying the outside driving company that delivers for them said I am too far out for them to deliver and they would only deliver if I had smaller bill. Then the woman on the phone also said that I am out of the delivery range which is funny because my address was valid for delivery through four food ordering apps. She said pay with smaller bill or credit card at which point I put her on hold and I asked my neighbor for change and even after telling her that we now have smaller bill she said they won't do it since I am out of the delivery range according to the driver because he didn't feel like driving or performing his job. I went on google and clicked on their website and it direct me to yet another ordering service put my address in and it of course let me proceed with my order. I called back and asked to speak with a manager and I received a phone call from the owner caller ID blocked stating that I have to use a card to pay and be their customer and that 18$ cash wasn't a good amount for them and that for the safety of the driver they can't deliver to me with cash. This entire situation is comical I replied to the owner that four food ordering services list my address as eligible and he should remove himself from online services if that's the case and that also we found a solution to to the bigger bill and a smaller bill was available and all of a sudden the range wasn't the issue it was the safety of the driver. I understand that concern but I'm the one answering the door with the bill plus smaller bill was available. Drivers don't carry more than 20$ in change but now that I know this its a safety issue for the driver. Hilarious! Security concerns to the side my real complaint is with the owners poor management skills. He called me with attitude and telling me if I want my food I have to pay with card simple as that (I'm no longer a threat with credit card- but I'd give him my info without caller ID ya ok). A great go to place for dinner/take-out. My order was delicious and accurate. We also enjoyed the free made-in-restaurant chips and flavorful salsa. We had a good range from tacos, enchiladas, rice, nachos and were happy with everything. Quality steak and chicken in both. Will come again. read more

I had the burrito with mole, which was quite good. But, as someone else said you pay a lot for what you get. I ordered delivery last night and was pleased by the prompt service. I was even more pleased to find out that the food was delicious! We got the Tacos Picantes plate (me) and a chicken burrito (boyfriend, who commented, "I've never seen so many options for places to add cheese!"). Burrito was solid, and my tacos were amazing- jammed full of guacamole and salsa with jalapenos. Both came with rice and beans, which were good but fairly average (although they did extend my "no-dairy" request to omitting the melted cheese from my beans-- a consideration few other delivery restaurants have given me). Bonus for free chips and a huge tub of salsa with our order over $16. Bottom line: cheap, quick, considerate, and most importantly, freaking delicious. We'll be back. read more

i have had way better Mexican food! I cooked way better Mexican food! I order the "special" and got a steak taco and a qusadilla. It was gross and greasy. The steak didn't have any flavor. I typically don't write reviews but I was just so happy with Papacitos I had to post. We used their catering service. We had a party at our house for about 75 people. I wanted the delivery there at 4pm and they were there 5 mins before 4, awesome. The delivery driver was so very nice and very efficient and set everytthing up very nicely. The food arrived very hot and was presented nicely. The provided plates and silve ware which I wasn't expecting which was a nice surprise. The food was delicious, I had several people compliment me on how good it was and asked for the name so they could use in the future. If you are having a casual party you need some delicious food catered for this is the place. Oh yeah, the food is extremely reasonable priced too which is even better. read more

I gave this restaurant three stars because of two very different experiences I had there. My friends and I visit Papacito's frequently to enjoy some coronas and good mexican food. The waiting staff is always so attentive and really nice. The food is always GREAT. I would recommend this restaurant as a good night spot. However, a week ago, we decided to come in the morning to try the breakfast menu. My experience was vastly different that what we were used to. My waitress was rude and inattentive. Also, though I am white, I speak spanish fluently and during our breakfast I heard the kitchen staff speaking very rudely about our table in spanish!!! WTF? I like papacitos, but my last experience left me so angry I was unable to enjoy my food. read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE- I placed on order for delivery and when it came the chips and salsa were missing. When I called the restaurant to let them know some woman put me on hold for two minutes then came back on the phone with major attitude and asked if I wanted a credit or for them to bring me the chips and salsa. I said I would like them to bring the chips and salsa and she says "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....ok" again with major attitude. Never once during the phone call did she apologize or event seem sorry even though I was calm and polite on the phone with her. Such poor customer service and this woman just seems like a total idiot. It has now been AN HOUR since that phone conversation and STILL NO CHIPS AND SALSA. When I called back 15 minutes ago they said they just left the store. Are you kidding me? This place is not far from where I live and my original order only took 30 minutes to arrive. I would advise you NOT to order from this place. They have no clue how to properly run a restaurant. PATHETIC! On a side note: I also ordered the VEGGIE enchiladas suizas plate and bit into a random piece of steak TWICE. SO DISGUSTING!!! Yes...there are lots of Mexican options in Chicago...but Papacitos is close to where I live, quick and reliable. I especially LOVE the spinach enchiladas with goat's cheese. They have coupons for 2-5 bucks off the bill, but the last two times they did not take it off the bill and then wouldn't adjust the bill since it was on a credit card.
