Let me first start off by saying this is my first review I've ever written on yelp and I usually wouldn't do this. I had Papas Got Jerk the other day for the first and it was some of the best food I've ever had in my life. Originally I was going to say it was some of the best Jamaican food but it's literally some of the best of I've ever had. I got the jerk wings and curry plate. The flavors were amazing and I could tell that food was cooked with love. It gave me the food that I get when I'm at thanksgiving with my family vibe. The service was amazing also. I honestly was skeptical at first being that this place is located in St. George but I tell you that I am very happy I went and will always stop from now on! Must try!!!!!! read more

First time trying Jamaican food and it was a success! We got one Stew Peas (it had gnocchi-like long dumplings in it which I didn't like but my husband did and careful because there are some bones you have to work around so I wouldn't get this dish for a kid) with the rice that had the peas in it and we picked the cabbage and carrots as our side. The side of cabbage and carrots was the best part! So good! The other dish we got was the jerk pork. It says spicy but it wasn't too bad. I don't love spicy and it was a totally tolerable spice level for me. That one also came with the rice that had the peas in it and we picked the rolls for the side which was a good move because there were juices to mop up. The woman at the front was friendly. We arrived ten minutes before closing (we thought they were open until 9 but turns out it was 8) and she let us eat inside while they cleaned up which was nice of her. After placing our order which incl chicken soup - the owner (Cheryl) stopped at our table to tell us that the soup was not up to her (high) standards and she couldn't serve it! She gave my wife another dish at no extra cost! WOW that's integrity and high standards at their best. read more

Well, I just had the most wonderful meal at Papa's Got Jerk in St. George UT. The food was great and it certainly lived up to my expectations as I'm of West Indian decent. The oxtail and jerk chicken are off the charts. My family completely enjoyed the cod fish as well. We also tried the goat - yes, we ate a bit of everything and the flavors are amazing. Tastes like home cooking freshness, well if you have a chef at home, but I mean that comfort food that's delicious and hits the spot. There are two rice options - plain or cooked in beans - both great. The cabbage is yummy too. Overall, we've been twice now and I'm looking forward to going again. We accidentally found Papa's Got Jerk while waiting in line at Chipotle across the street, and how fortunate for us! It was late in the evening, so they were out of some dishes (I really wanted the oxtail stew). We ordered the Chicken Curry and the Chicken Jerk, which were both tender/off the bone, well-flavored, and delicious. This is in a mall, so the ambience is simple, but you'd definitely feel Jamaica around you. The best part was meeting the owner and the cook, who told us about their backgrounds and were most welcoming. Thanks for the carrot cakes, Cheryl and Bob! We were just on our way back to L.A. from Yellowstone on 5/31/23 so it will likely be a while before we return. Because of this restaurant though, I'm looking forward to finding a Jamaican resto near me in Southern California. Hope it's as good as Papa's Got Jerk. read more

Was fortunate enough to go to their ribbon cutting and I was shocked at how good and unique the food was. Never had Jamaican food prior. I can say that the jerk flavored blackened wings were likely the best chicken wings I have ever had. The beef patties were also spicy and AMAZING! Can't wait until they are open. It was so tasty. My wife had jerk chicken and cabbage. I had brown stewed chicken and plantains. Such different flavors that you won't find anywhere else in St. George. I will definitely return for more. The curry was sold out, but that will be my next meal. I liked the brown stewed chicken more than jerk chicken. i tried the oxtail today. Just as amazing as everyone says. Unbelievably moist and tender chicken, nice and spicy but not overwhelmingly so. Even the rice was better than I thought it could be. The new $5 bowls are the perfect quantity without sacrificing quality. The staff went above and beyond to ensure a positive experience.
