These guys are without a doubt the best customer focused local company in Skagit for rental…read moreequipment. I had an issue with one of the boom lifts I rented and couldn't get it going and with only 4 more hrs left on my time I wasnt going to get my tree completely finished and fallen. Not only did the manager work with me over the phone to try and trouble shoot but he also sent out a mechanic to help me get it going, AND he also extended my return time by almost a whole day! Well over double of the time I had left to return it. Above and beyond him and his crew went for helping me out and making sure I was good and got my job done. Upon returning the lift I was helped out by the manager and I thanked him for his help to which he apologized for the hickup in the equipment, and asked if I needed anything else and sent me and my buddy off with some great fitting swag. Some ball caps, beanies, and a shirt! As a lifetime local here in Skagit and having been in the trade, I've had my fair share of having to rent equipment and this place that John manages is friendly, respectful and these people wont bullshit you. They actually want to help you out unlike some other places around here. I'll be giving this place my business in the future and definitely recommend them!

Wouldn't listen to what my needs were or what I was going to be doing with the piece of equipment I was renting. He was just rude and told me they couldn't rent to me. Interrupted every time I tried to explain and told me over and over again they wouldn't do business with me. I will never go back to this place again.

So disappointed these past few years with Birch Equipment rentals. I have rented from them for 20…read moreyears. Last year I rented a carpet cleaner. When I got it home, it leaked. Took it back and got a different one. It didn't work. I ended up going to Hardware Sales to rent a working carpet cleaner because by that time BE was closed . Birch Equip agreed to rent an aerator at 50% off for the inconvenience. I picked up the aerator today, paid $67 ( which was 50%off), got the aerator to my home and discovered the screw that adjusts the tines height was broken. I phoned BE and they said the adjuster was not an integral part of the working apparatus. He also reiterated I was renting it for 50% off. The RPM adjuster also was not working properly since it kept highly revving by itself while not being actively operated. I will take it back tomorrow, request a refund and take my businesssomewhete else.

I've worked with birch for years on a professional level. Which wasn't too bad. But a couple months ago, I needed scaffolding for a personal project and there wasn't any readily available for sale so I figured I would try birch. I ended up using the scaffolding for 9 weeks and 3 days. I ended up paying nearly TWICE as much as it costs to buy scaffolding new. They also tried to charge me a couple hundred more because they raised prices on the scaffolding rentals as well, but they never informed me of that until I went to pay the final balance. They did adjust the final balance minus the increase I was never told about, but were pretty reluctant to do so. I will never rent from this place again on a personal or professional level. I understand they want to make money, but they are charging enough to pay off the equipment they rent out in a matter of weeks. That's absolutely ridiculous. Can also note that this is simply scaffolding! Not mechanical equipment that requires any maintenance. And to top it off, once I started going into the 3rd month, I was behind a couple weeks on getting in to pay the current balance. It's summer season, I'm busy and they have very short hours and not open on weekends. Makes it hard to swing in sometimes. So they called me at the end of a workday and left me a message asking to take care of the balance. By the time I could call them back, they were already closed. The next morning, they called again and happened to catch me while I was able to answer. They literally told me I was lucky I answered my phone cuz they were about to report the equipment stolen. I've never had any rental company treat me like this. And I've rented an insane amount of stuff. Absolute garbage company .

After 43 years in construction building everything from billion-dollar resorts and luxury high rises to small strip malls and everything in between as a Superintendent, and Manager for some of the largest General Contractors in North America I have learned a few things. One of those valuable truths is this: Smooth sailing doesn't show an individual's true colors and the same holds true for Contractor, Subcontractor or Suppliers etc. It's when things go wrong you learn their true colors. In the case of the latter, these true colors, good or bad, can always be tracked back to one chair. The captain of the ship, the CEO, President or Owner of the company sets the standard of care for the people / entities, customers he/she partners with in everyday and contractual dealings. This week I had the unfortunate experience of learning the "True Colors" of Pilchuck Rentals and their "Captain" Lance Brown. I will try to keep this brief and to the point and still get just the facts in. I rented a skidsteer loader and brush-cutter (US Mower QA60) from Pilchuck Rentals. The machine was delivered and the driver did a walk-around of their machine taking pictures and I did a video walk around...years of experience shows videos MUCH more effective. I used it for approximately 10 hours before the hydraulic pump / motor broke off the top of the cutter! I performed a post-event forensics on the machine and also viewed the delivery video. Pics and videos attached. One of the 4 bolts that held this high-torque motor on was missing prior to my using it. It was a rusted out hole with a broken stud inside. YES I missed seeing it at delivery. Never used one of these before and was excited to get going! There was also a "drilled and plugged" mounting hole on the other side of the flange. This is where a threaded insert was installed at an angle. (see figures) The top mounting plate corner had been cut out to accommodate this new hole location. This modification is not an approved fix per my discussion with the manufacturer's engineer at US Mower. I slid the motor back into it's operating position with the slot under the remaining bolt and it wobbles easily. this bots was red locktighted in so couldn't be turned. It was loose in my opinion when delivered. I called Pilchuck to report the issue and Lance, the owner, happened to answer the phone. I told him about the issue and he immediately started talking like it was my fault? I told him I had hit a rotted cedar stump in the middle of 14-16' high blackberries but nothing hard! I could pull parts of the stump off by hand it was so rotten. He stated...and restated 3 times to date, that the mower is not meant to hit stumps. I went to US mower's website and found that they are made to MAKE STUMPS. The website shows and states this machine is made for cutting up to 8" trees! There's also a video of them JUST cutting trees. So Lance is throwing out either uninformed or outright false statements. I drove down to the store and met Lance, introduced myself and gave a little background of my experience. I have been renting and responsibly using equipment over 40 years. Millions of dollars' worth over my career and never have checked all the motor mounts on what I rent! I showed him the pictures and he stated, again, that his guys would look at it and get back to me. Pilchuck has charged my card for the damage deposit and 2 hours of overtime because I used it for 10 hours. I called again today and Lance wouldn't talk to me. (Heard him in the background) and they gave me to someone else. He stated that "The Owner" will not refund the 300.00 and is using it to help pay for a new motor AND the reason is I told him I hit a stump. Also that I should have caught this missing bolt and modifications at delivery??? Also that the modified mounting must have been done by another customer...so they didn't see it? REALLY....they said this????!!! Where is the Service department sending these machines out when they come back with different colored bolt and a notch cut out of the plate on the critical mount on top of the potentially extremely dangerous machine?!?!?! The $300.00 is nothing....reatlly....the fact that this Owner of a local business would treat a returning customer this way is the issue. Being made to feel like a bad person is the issue. Seeing this local businessman have complete disregard for the facts, pictures, videos and still charging a customer out of greed, disrespect and complete disregard basic customer service and his customer's pocketbook is the issue....squeezing every penny out of a person's card he thinks he can get away with....is the issue. DANGEROUS. UNTRUSTWORTHY....UNPROFESSIONAL
