Brought my mom here for her 89th birthday dinner and it was superb! Lovely ambience, fast and friendly service. Margaritas were tasty, steak quesadilla was delicious and flavorful with green chiles in it. The steak burrito was amazing as well. I remarked recently that not long ago, I had never heard of birria. Now it's everywhere. Apparently it's not a nationwide phenomenon, more a local one. I don't know. Anyway, here we have another new taco shop in town, this one also offering, among more standards items, birria tacos, burrito and a quesadilla, which I opted for. - QuesaBirria: a fairly large quesadilla cut into quarters and served with the usual tub of dipping sauce (au jus). Pretty tasty. - Side of pinto beans: I like beans with my Mexican food and Papi Chulo's are solid although maybe not the tastiest in town. Prices are reasonable, service is quick. I don't know it for a fact but I believe Papi Chulo's is affiliated with River Pig Saloon, which is next door at the Box Factory. Same owner and kitchen talent anyway. As with the other establishments in this row of the Box Factory, along with some inside seating, there's a nice patio area. Liquor license pending (so maybe the River Pig affiliation is the way to go there). read more

I've been excited to try this place since they announced they were opening a location in Bend. I'd like to give it a 3.5, but considering they've been open only 1 week, I'll give then the benefit of the doubt that they will continue to improve on what was already a pretty good experience. The space has a great vibe, laid-back and airy. The staff was great and the food came out quickly. Impressive considering how busy they were. I ordered the Birria burrito. The burrito was loaded with meat and cheese with a nice amount of onions and cilantro. The broth was pretty good, although I could have used a little more intensity or depth of flavor. Overall, the burrito dipped in the broth made for a great bite. Other than the broth, my only complaint is that the burrito could have benefited from a little more time on the griddle to crisp it up and maybe give it a little color. By the end of each half, the bottom just kind of fell apart. It's bound to happen with all that juicy beef and the broth I guess. My friends ordered some tacos and were split on their reviews, but iverall fairly positive. They appeared to be typical street taco size, so I imagine it would take 3-4 to be a full meal. Again, for being open only a week, there were a lot of positives and I look forward to going again and trying some of the other items on the menu, although it's going to be hard not to order the Birria burrito or tacos! read more

I was excited to try some " authentic" Mexican food, so I picked Papi Chulo's for the group. We all placed our order and the girl working the register who's name I think was Emila or something similar read back our order with everything correct. I ordered chips and salsa & burrito bowl, the salsa was so thick almost to the point like tomato paste, i had to ask for salt and pepper because it had no salt. Almost 35 min went by before anyone received their food we even had time to walk across the street and order oyster shots and bring them back and sit down and eat them prior to getting their food. so I ordered a burrito bowl and I waited patiently for it, while everyone else was eating. I thought possibly it was going to take longer cause everyone else got tacos and I got something different. 15 minutes go by and everyone is basically done with their food. I have still yet to get mine. Mind you she read the order back and everyone's food was on the order including mine. As she's helped multiple people between bringing our party's food out and other peoples, I asked kindly why my food was not out yet. She looked at me with an annoyed expression and stated that she already gave me my food. And I told her no I have not received mine but everyone else did. She then asked what did I order and went to the kitchen and asked. She turned around and stated they did not prepare my food and forgot about it, that it was now going to be prepared and simply stated no I would just like a refund as by now everyone in my party is done eating. And was rude and questioned if we were going to leave already then with an extremely bad attitude. I expressed to her no as my husband still had his drink to finish. As she's continued looking for my order and cost of it she rolled her eyes, and began to use a sarcastic tone asked whose card did we even use. I expressed it was my husband's card and that she did not need to be rude as I was being polite. She then stated she could only take my name and number down. I asked to SPEAK to the manager and she called and wouldn't let me talk to the manager or supervisor. I felt like the owner or manager should know how their employees are acting or treating customers when an error is made, it was her responsibility to make sure all the order was made and the proper way to handle the situation. Our Uber driver recommended Papi Chulo's for tacos and we're so glad we listened! We had vegetarians and GF eaters in our group and they were super accommodating. My friend got the horchata which was SUPER tasty and came with a cookie rim. The tacos ranged from about $3.75 to $5 each and were a decent size. I'm not veggie but I absolutely loved their verduras taco, with poblanos and mushrooms and a very generous helping of cheese and salsa. The Baja fish taco was a miss for me, though I compare everything to Oscars in SD. This is a brand new business and they don't have their liquor license yet.
