Timing really matters here. It is best to come during off hours if you want any chance of getting a lounge chair to set your belongings down or take a break. When it is busy, seating is very limited and can get crowded quickly. The pool itself is not ideal for young children or anyone expecting a gradual entry. There is no graded or zero-depth entrance. Instead, you enter via a ladder directly into about four feet of water, with a rope separating this area from the deeper section. This setup may be fine for confident swimmers, but it felt less family-friendly than anticipated. Conversely, if you are looking to swim laps, this is not a lap pool. It is purely recreational. The changing and bathroom area is very open, and the showers offer no privacy. The shower water was also quite cold, which was not especially comfortable, particularly for kids. If you are expecting enclosed changing rooms or warm showers, this may be disappointing. Parking is public street parking only, paid at meters, which adds another layer of planning and cost. Overall, while the beach house is in a beautiful spot and can be enjoyable under the right circumstances, the lack of amenities, limited seating, and less-than-ideal pool and changing facilities make it hard to fully relax or recommend, especially for families with young children.

Depending on the experience, regardless of the status of the place, I give it more, or ... less. The place is and was really nice and I highly recommend it. By pure definition, it sure deserves five stars. A five star hotel with five star service and five star prices. Now, having lived in the world of the rich-beauty-famous for most of my life, that alone does not impress me too much. If the five star hotel would fall short - and I have seen this, my individual experience may lead to two stars or less, and sadly, it happened. In this case, we loved it and would go again. BUT: to achieve five stars in my rating scheme, I need to be willing to make a 30+ min detour just to go to this particular place. And while ambiance, view & stuff was nice, it was not nice/ special/ outstanding enough to earn its five points. And after Shutters, I went to a place that was clearly worth five stars. It was a chilly weekend and the pool could have been warmer (I couldn't get in, but I really don't like cold water). - the beach chairs are also very nice and we were surprised to find them available - they were extremely pleasant about our friends visiting us every day! - the lobby waiter during the day was almost inexistant. We had to go to the bar to ask for drinks. The woman at night was great. Now for the food...: - coast has a great breakfast, the lemon ricotta pancakes are excellent (though stupid expensive for pancakes) - pico is a good spot for shrimp cocktail and calamari. Hasn't seen shrimps that big in a long time. - overall the food was good everywhere but way overpriced.... The kids menu are ridiculous... hard to justify spending $28 on kids pancakes. That being said, the portions were the same as adult portions... maybe make the portions smaller, and price more accessible? Overall we had a great stay, and while on the expensive side, we agreed we would come back. Nicely done!

I don't think the bars were ever over crowded. The djs and music was solid. Variety of hip hop and pop and edm music was played. Plenty of room to dance. The one issue we ran into was security. Minutes before closing my daughter's boyfriend approached her on the dance floor. A drunk and over zealous young lady attacked him. She pushed him with 2 hands in his chest and screamed at him to leave my daughter alone. Moments later security approached HIM and asked him to leave? When I interjected and tried to explain the misunderstanding security told me they didn't care. That's when I told this kid I was old enough to be his dad and this is my daughter's boyfriend. I explained to him the female should be kicked out not him. He did nothing wrong. But we would not cause any problems and would just leave anyways. The way security handled the situation was diabolical. Their job is to protect the patrons and listen to them when there is an issue. Not ignore than and not care to find out what the truth of the matter is. For this I have to 1 star this establishment.

I wandered into the Marion Davies Guest House soon after it opened that Sunday, and docent Susan McCarthy gave me and another couple a wonderful tour. It was fascinating to learn this was only one of the guest quarters on this oceanfront property, along with the lavish 110-room mansion the actress shared with William Randolph Hearst. Sadly, everything else except one pool was bulldozed for a parking lot! Though Davies had numerous affairs, she remained Hearst's mistress until he died. They entertained a variety of celebrities here, including Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable, Pola Negri, David Niven and Joan Crawford. Peruse the photos on the walls, and watch the video, "The True Story of Marion Davies," for a delicious dose of Hollywood history. Unfortunately, there is no period furniture, but that's probably why anyone can rent the space for events. Step back in time, and check it out.

Cool breeze and lots of people watching. After lunch we took a. docent lead tour of the guest house. Which is FREE. Entry is FREE and all are welcome. The hours are Friday-Sunday, 10am-3pm. Parking a little challenging so go early. Plenty of ADA spaces.

Papille Gustative was terrific. Indoor decor is woody but modern. Outdoor structure with lots of plants, and good service to be sure. For a guy who grew up in Paris, who has returned many times to France and Europe, eaten at Le Tour D'Argent, Joel Rubuchon and Paul Bocuse, Roger Verge ... Le Cirque and Caravelle ( now closed) restaurants there and here & am in general a bit of a foodie, they've done a great job - outdoor setting, service (always a challenge) farm to table produce and a brunch menu that is top of class. Can't wait to see what they do for an encore for a dinner menu. They are perhaps a year new. Opening during a pandemic is a great challenge to be sure. Seems the early service kinks are improved. My recommendations: Japan ceremonial grade matcha teas, salmon and avocado toasts, nectarine crostada, smoked salmon benedict. This place is the bomb! read more

My husband and I along with our two teenage kids had such a wonderful time here! Location is amazing, the prime district of Main Street just a step away from beautiful beaches in Santa Monica. I love the fact that all their ingredients including even the tiniest element such as organic peas are from local farmers, bakers and coffee brewers which would give you the right definition of farm-to-table dining experience. You know exactly what your body and soul is getting. Their staff is very friendly and seems to be enjoying what they do. That is always such a great thing to see. Overall, I am glad to say that we found one of our regular spots where all of us will keep coming back to. read more

What a wonderful place. Just wonderful. Quick service, great food and such a unique place. We come here often and have almost went through the whole menu, which is wonderful. It was the first place we went to when LA restored outdoor eating, they've been great during Covid. I will say I cannot eat enough of the smoked salmon, it's incredible but I love everything they serve. Just remember to make a reservation as this place does a lot of business. read more

Always an amazing experience here at Papille Gustative. Simply the best brunch in all of Santa Monica. The chef gets his food, fresh from the farmers market and puts together such creative dishes. The desserts are to die for and they have the best coffee in town. I try to come in as much as possible whether it's after body surfing at the beach, playing water polo or just walking around Santa Monica it is my go to place for food. read more

The outdoor patio is perfect for a long and relaxed brunch and the Smoked Salmon Benedict had perfectly cooked eggs, caviar and a beautiful presentation! I love the bowls and that you can make your own by picking the base (noodles - rice or vermicelli, rice -- jasmine or brown), choose a sauce (garlic lime, peanut or sweet chili), adding a protein (tofu and mushroom, chicken, pork, beef or shrimp) and finally you can add a topping (crispy onions, yams, leek crisps or pesto) -- those are $.75 extra. My bowl was so delicious -- I had the Tofu and Shitake mushroom bowl and it was so delicious and fresh I wanted to lick the plate. I also decided to try a black sesame latte -- it was ok, not as good as I wanted it to be. There is also a little kitchen for a quick take away meal if you don't have time -- if you never went to the bathroom you might not know it existed because you have to walk through the restaurant (from the patio) to see the take away section. Location is nice for Venice. But I'll never order a sandwich here again until they toast the bread or use thicker slices to maintain sandwich firmness.

Would love to sit at the new bar some time if I ever travel without my little one. Brunch was epic, went with a usual- my wife and I went halvsies on the benedict and egg sandwich- I added some eggs, truffle fries, sausage and turkey bacon for the group to share- All was epic. Had a bite of pancakes, and chicken salad sandwich (w/ turmeric raisin bread). We started with the crostini, and did two of each; they were epic. I personally liked the apricot one and the prosciutto/goat cheese. All drinks were great, but I loved the mezcal espresso martini, and their walnut old fashioned. Table next to us got the puffed bread, and that looked epic. Also, we loved Alfonso, our waiter; he was great, and checked in to grab us some extra stuff as we kept trying to order more, and more. On the Internet on every possible site it says that the restaurant is open till 10 o'clock. In fact, when I went to enter this Yelp also said it's open till 10 o'clock. I walked in at 8:45 asked the people if they were open they said no that it closes in a couple minutes meaning 9 o'clock and that you'd have to order immediately. This is again my pet peeve with restaurants in California. If you're going to close your restaurant at 9 o'clock you must stay open at least an hour after that so people can sit down take their time order their dinner and eat their dinner and then an hour after that you close the kitchen, but you leave it open for dessert for another half hour then people can order their dessert in a calm manner have their dessert and still enjoy their dinner and sit around. This business of having a close time and then telling people they have two minutes to order is a bunch of crap. This doesn't happen in Chicago. It doesn't happen in New York and it doesn't happen at high in restaurants. So if you do this, you're not a high-end restaurant you're a low restaurant. It probably is having trouble staying alive anyway. So don't do this. I will always give you a one or two star review. I have enough followers and you should take my word for it that you can't do this. If you're open till 10 o'clock be open till 10 o'clock and give people time to enjoy their dinner.

Lee is an incredible chef, the food is great. My family was also super impressed and we kept talking about how great our last meal was way after we ate it. I have seen this restaurant change and grow over 29 years and I am so grateful for it as it is now. There is so much love put in to the place and you can really feel it.
