I hesitate to add a review, but my experience was very disappointing. I ordered the enchiladas with guac and pico de gallo as extras. The food had some "heat" but overall was bland and soggy. Perhaps they reacted to the negative reviews of being dry, but seemed like they added water to refried beans. The rice was blah, and the tortillas were soaked?! with what I don't know. I've never had soggy enchiladas before. It was as if they had made everything the day before and threw them into the microwave to heat up. To each his own. Don't think I'll be back. read more

Pivoted to lunch at Papi's Grill on Tuesday afternoon. Excellent and reasonably priced Mexican food take-out. Quality: Papi's Grill is just solid and affordable Mexican food, and all the locals know it. I ordered a delicious Carne Asada Burrito, the steak on it was perfection, and each bite was fantastic. I also had a few bites of a Carne Asada Torta, which was too much bread for me, but the flavor was still solid. The Chips & Guac is a must, very creamy guacamole. Quantity: Massive portions for every item. Value: $13 for a Carne Asada Burrito. $9 for a Torta. $9 for Chips & Guac. Ambiance: Papi's Grill is located in Park Slope. Even though they have a dining area, when I visited every single person was crowded around the take-out section. The open kitchen displaying the food was incredible to watch. I was craving nachos all day so i ordered from here for the first time for pick up. The place is small but it has a good amount of seating. Enticed by a GrubHub discount, I ordered delivery for lunch today. The menu offerings are pretty typical for a Mexican restaurant: tacos, tortas, burritos, quesadillas. I picked a couple of things that sounded interesting and placed the order. The delivery time wasn't slow, but it wasn't fast, either. First, the chicken burrito. Fairly filling, with lots of rice and beans, but there could have been more chicken. I opted to include pico de gallo and jalapeños (no upcharge for those add-ons). After a liberal dousing of salsa verde, the burrito was quite passable. I had one taco al pastor, and it was delicious, easily the high point of the meal. Based on another Yelper's recommendation, I also had a ground beef taco, which was decent, though I didn't really get the hype. For $3 each, the tacos are a healthy size. There's a lot of cheap eats in South Slope, providing endless variety for delivery options. Yes, I feel a little gluttonous about it, but the convenience honestly rocks my socks. If you're craving Mexican, you could probably do worse than Papi's Grill. If you try hard, however, you could definitely do better. read more

Possibly the WORST customer service in all of Brooklyn for delivery orders--and I don't say that lightly. I've been ordering food from Papi's Grill since 2015... back then, the food was good and the customer service was even better. But over the last year or so, every time I call in for a delivery it goes like this: 'ring ring ring ring ring .... ring ring ring ... [no answer/hang up/dial again] ring ring ring ring ring'... [finally answering the 2nd or 3rd call] "Papi's Grill". "Yes, I'd like an order for delivery"... "Ok, hold on". At which point, the telephone is placed on the counter and for the next 5-12 minutes I listen to them taking orders of any and all customers at the counter, handing out orders, providing utensils, hot sauce, asking them if they need anything else.... Finally, after every single in-person customer has been taken care of, they finally pick up the phone. "Ok, what is your order". NOTE: At this point, I've been ignored for sometimes up to 12 minutes. (12 minutes doesn't sound long, but try holding your breath for 12 minutes and then tell me it's not that long.) Anyway, after they finally pick up, there is never an "I'm sorry for your wait", or "we're very busy today", nothing. Just "What's your order". Over the course of the past year, this happened nearly every time I called in for a delivery. I can't tell you how long I've waited for them to pick up and take my order... hours, days, months... time off of my life that I'll never get back. I must admit, I was confused by this because "FREE DELIVERY" is printed in large white letters on their awning, so obviously it's something they encourage. Last week, after being put on hold... then hung up on... calling back, put on hold again and being ignored for a grand total of 14 minutes, I'd had enough. So when they finally picked up, I asked... "Why did you put me on hold TWICE? And why so long? It sure doesn't make me want to order food from your restaurant.".... She said "We have customers that we have to take care of." I said "I can hear that, but don't you realize that I AM A CUSTOMER TOO? I am calling you to order your food and pay you for it." She said, and I quote, "But your order will take longer". It was at that exact moment I realized that they know nothing about customer service, nor do they seem to care about retaining customers. It was also at that exact moment, after 8 years, I decided to end my patronage of Papi's grill. Why I put up with this s#!%%y service for so long, I really don't know... the food is good, but not THAT good.... must have just been habit I guess. So.... adios Papi's Grill ... I give you 3.5 stars for Food and 0 stars for Service. [And p.s., if you don't want customers paying over the phone by credit card, maybe you should STOP TAKING CREDIT CARDS for delivery orders instead of giving them attitude and telling them you'll have to call them back "later" to take their order & credit card number! food was great and fresh, came out in 5-10 minutes. the chips were crunchy and the green salsa was amazing. the lady at the counter was extremely kind even with my poor pronunciation of the food. the store in general however was hot and a bit uncomfortable , with limited seating but it wasn't terrible. read more

It's easy to be average Mexican food but it is very hard to be superb and authentic. Papi's Grill has a phenomal food and a reasonable price. It captures the classic authenticity you want from your local Mexican restaurant but can cater to any taste bud. The portions are above average. Highly recommend the chicken hurache which has a tangy flavoring that softly folds into the tortilla. Also perhaps a bit american but try the ground beef taco---beats any fast food taco for the same price. Plus this place "fits" in a neighborhood that is quickly moving towards luxury eateries and condos. In the day of $10 designer tacos, Papi, is worth the price and the food is worth more. This is the best Mexican food to go in Park Slope. Guess what??? It's super affordable. When I worked in Park Slope, my colleague introduced me to this place and I love him for it. The chicken cemita and the carne asada platter are my favorites. Honestly, everything I tried here was great. The meat has the perfect combination of salt and spice to give it that authentic kick. Love this place! One of the only places in the neighborhood that still serves authentic Mexican food. I live downtown and the Mexican restaurants over there have nothing on this place. I had the grilled steak platter with beef fried beans. The steak was so juicy and tender, it was cooked to perfection. The beans were soft and very tasty, and it was all fresh. Papis grill has lost me as a customer. Their customer service is atrocious. I placed an order for pick up and decided to walk my dog. Understandably, they have a no pet policy in which I abided by. I called and politely asked if someone inside of the establishment could please bring my food to the door which is only a few feet away from their counter and I would gladly meet them. I was told to leave my dog tied up in which I explained I could not as my dog has temperament issues. They proceeded to give me unnecessary attitude. I had to call again in order to retrieve my food in which the manager gave me more attitude and disrespect. I have lived in the neighborhood for years now and have never been treated this way. I was a loyal customer here but will no longer help support a business that treats their customers this way. read more

The Torta bread wasn't as good as it used to be. It used to have a crunch & was soft on the inside. On my recent visit it was meh. We asked for half the torta, with our remaining green sauce in the little plastic container, to go. When my son got home with it there was no sauce :(....and about that sauce...when first served it was very cold and solidified, as if it had recently been removed from the freezer. I have been to Papis Grill multiple times. Anytime I want Mexican food this is where I like to come. I always get the Carne Asada bowl & it comes with 2 hand made corn tortillas, which are delicious! I hate flour tortillas so this is a huge plus for me. Both the refried beans and the black beans are delicious & the steak itself is so flavorful. Ive also had the picadita which I love. I really love this place, and can't for the life of me understand why anyone would go to a certain corporate chain a few blocks away. Papi's has excellent, affordable, and most important authentic Mexican food. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and homemade. Nothing tastes pre-packaged or canned. I'm obsessed with their salsas, especially the spicy one. And while they have all the standards -- tacos, nachos, enchiladas, and burritos -- I suggest you explore their other options, like huaraches or picaditas.
