It's not often that yelp let's me down, but I definitely felt let down eating at Papi's last night- Saturday 5/23. We walked over from our hotel & we were hungry from traveling all day. Highly recommended were the butter beef tacos & the fish tacos, which respectively are right up my husband & my preferences. I got a bottle of Tejava- peach was offered as cold & regular was warm, I opted for peach & although it came from the fridge, it was warm. No biggie. Food comes out & visually the fish tacos look like some tex mix version- beans & corn with chunks of grilled fish on top. Husband said they were okay, but the fish kept falling out of the tacos because of all the other fillings & he didn't like their tortillas. The butter beef was..not great. Really greasy, to the point I didn't quite finish the second out of three tacos. Tried to soak up some of it with a napkins to no avail. & agree with hubby, tortillas not great. We had the BEST experience at Papi's Grill--I'm still thinking about it! Let's start simple... the chips and guac. Oh. My. Gosh. The guacamole is absolute perfection. Creamy avocado, perfectly seasoned--hands down the best I've ever had. We also ordered the fish tacos, and they were so refreshing and cooked just right. Definitely a must-have if you're in the Pismo area! And of course, we had to try the chipotle asada taco--the meat was tender, flavorful, and paired with that green sauce... sooo delicious. 3.5 stars. Went for the weekend al pastor tacos. The tortillas were good but pork wasn't what I expected. The flavor just wasn't there. Coupled with how expensive each taco was - not worth it at all. Nice little mom and pop shop. Dropped by on a Wednesday night and there was no wait. Its small inside when you order, but they do have outdoor seating. I ordered the shrimp tacos and it was amazing. Happy to announce that I discovered another great place for everyone to try! Look at the chunks of fish on my taco and the hard potato tacos are amazing! I shared them with my bf but next time i might get 2 orders all for myself!!! They make their own chorizo. I always get one cheese quesadilla and one asada quesadilla and they're very thick so I have leftovers (kind of pricey for the size but don't overlook how filling they are!). I love that they use fresh corn tortillas. Service can be slow but it's worth it for the food quality. I haven't been to Pismo Beach before and was super excited to try out this spot due to the great yelp reviews. It is a small location with two indoor tables, and a handful of outdoor seating. When we arrived at 12pm on a Thursday it was not too busy and we got our food quickly. The service was friendly! I was craving fries so I ordered the Chipotle Chorizo fries, they were good but the cheese was still cold and they did not have a lot of sauce. My dad ordered the Carnitas torta, but ended up receiving the Carne Asada torta. Overall, the food was okay and if we come back we would try different menu items :) read more

Food is decent. But to be honest this place is super overpriced. $11 for the smallest 2 potato tacos I've ever eaten. I've had a good amount of authentic Mexican food and never was it that overpriced. We also decided to get it for dine in and sit inside. We were some of the only people there so it isn't busy. When our food is ready the gentlemen at the front says "your food done" then sets it on the front register counter instead of walking literally 3 feet to bring it to our table lmao. One of our favorite places for a quick taco. We've never had a bad taco here and we love the guac. The chips are perfect too. I think our favorite is the butter beef. They are extremely generous with their meat at an extremely reasonable price. These are way bigger than the little street tacos, but they taste just as good. Everything was very flavorful and not dry. I like how they include toppings with the tacos. Wish you could order just one of the potato tacos. My husband and I ordered 4 tacos each, but would have been full off 3. That said, we don't regret the 4th. All their salsas are very spicy and flavorful. Just beware if you can't really handle spice. It's nice that they give it to you on the side. Takeout takes about 15 min and you can order ahead by phone. They even upgraded our watermelon fresca to a large since they were closing soon. So nice!
