The restaurant has a casual, laid-back atmosphere. This was recommended by a local, and it quickly became one of our favorite stops whenever we visit Pismo. We had the chance to meet the owner, who fishes in the morning and serves the fresh catch at the restaurant later in the day--now that's how you know the seafood is truly fresh. The owner is not only the cook but also personally serves the food, and his friendly personality makes the experience even better. He offered us a free taste of their ceviche, which was so good that we ended up ordering it. We also tried the daily recommended fish. Nice lunch at El Pizmo for our first time. We wanted to try something other than Splash or Ada's for chowder which are our go to touristy spots. What I enjoyed about the chowder here is it was herby. Lots of flavor, even found a bay leaf in ours haha We ordered the fisherman's platter to get a sample of a few items. All were decently good. My wife and I were in town for the Fourth of July weekend, and eating here was at the top of my list because I have celiac disease and they offer gluten-free fish and chips. I'm happy to say it exceeded my expectations. The fish was fresh, tender, and flaky, with a perfectly crisp, golden-brown batter that you'd never guess was gluten-free. The fries were equally delicious, hot and crispy. It's a challenge to find good gluten-free food, especially fish and chips, but El Pizmo absolutely delivers. Little place in Pismo, restaurant is small. Young lady at register was nice. We ordered the 3 piece Halibut fish and chips. Fries were good & crispy. Halibut was fresh, but we preferred the Rock Cod fish tacos, for us the Rock cod was way better. Better fish for a fry, the batter was crisp and crunchy. The meat was moist. Chairs are high chairs but small for the rump, not very comfy. We shall try again. read more

We came in on July 4th for a quick light bite and ordered a small poke and 1/2 dozen oysters. You order and pay at the register and they bring out your food. The staff were friendly, the vibes were casual and more importantly the food was great. Generous portion of poke and very seasoned in marinade. The oysters were meaty and delicious. I ended up ordering 1/2 dozen more and a side of rice to go with the poke. I do wish the rice was more of a sushi rice but it still worked. Would definitely come back the next time we are in Pismo. I stopped in only for a short time, and they specialize in fish & chips. Ambiance was what you'd expect of a fish and chips place near the beach. Service was friendly, and the owner (?) was a merchant marine previously, which is cool. The Baja fish taco was decent and had some spice, but the toppings made me want to order the fish & chips. I'd guess that the fish and chips would make it a 5 star vs. the 3~3.5 star fish taco. Note that I'm comparing it to fish tacos you'd get near the border, but for something around Pismo Beach, should be top tier. read more

Solid 4 1/2 stars! Wifey & I had a quick anniversary celebration and took a drive to Pismo Beach for the weekend! Being that we had never been to Pismo Beach before, when we got hungry for lunch...we did what all folks do, follow their noses! We somehow ended up at El Pizmo Fish after smelling that waft of frying oil! So glad we did! El Pizmo Fish is a nice little family joint - that day we were there, run by father & daughter. And boy, were they plenty busy enough during what looked like a decent lunch rush! Very simple & succinct menu, we ordered 2 of each: -Fish Tacos Baja Style with Local Rock Cod ($5.95) -Fiesta Bowl ($16.95) - seared local rock cod with butter & garlic over a bed of rice and topped with their house verde & crema Didn't take very long for our orders to arrive, probably about 20 minutes or so - but we got to watch them being cooked up! Smelled so good! The fish tacos were excellent! Fresh tortilla, crisp cabbage, light & airy fried rock cod! Top off with a dash of your favorite hot sauce from their lengthy choices of bottles on their counter! So many flavors and textures all at once! Even with sauce, the flavor and flakiness of the rock cod still came through - super tasty bite! The Fiesta Bowl was great too, nice sized portions of rock cod this time pan-fried in butter then topped with their house verde sauce & crema. Flavorful and cloudy, but still enough to fill you up. Awesome health-conscious bowl! Prices at El Pizmo Fish were a bit high but that's to be expected in the tourist area of Pismo Beach. But the prices were justified because the quality of the fish you receive is stellar. We would have ate there again during our visit downtown if we had the time. Had dinner here at this small little eatery while in town recently. Greeted with a welcome entering, walk up counter service, place your order and pay they bring you your food when its ready. The fresh seafood is excellent here, and made to order. Started with a dozen Oysters on the half shell, they were so tasty and fresh with just a squeeze of lemon. Ordered the Fish and chips for dinner, the three piece Rock Cod basket. It was very good, three nice size pieces of cod on top of a pile of golden brown fries. Served with lemon wedges and tartar sauce. Well made and cooked to near perfection. This place has great fresh seafood and is definitely worth the effort and time. First of all being gluten free, finding food that's safe to eat is hard. This place makes it easy... they cook everything in rice flour. That means no need for separate fryers, no cross contamination in the fryer etc. if you're gluten free, this spot is as safe as it gets. You get to experience the full joy of battered fish and chips without the side effects, stress and illness. If you're gluten free this place is a must hit location. Secondly... the quality of the food. Let me just say that what surprised me the most was the fries. Man the fries were amazing. Perfectly cooked, perfectly salted, fresh and hot out of the fryer. The fish was bomb, the tartar sauce was delicious, the clam chowder was perfectly balanced and incredible. But you know this place is a hit when the fries catch your attention. Finally... the service. Man this owner is the nicest and coolest guy in the world. He is so kind to every customer, interacting with families, sharing about his business and his life with us and building a real connection. This is a hard working, genuine and friendly small business owner. Can't think of the last time I was this happy supporting a restaurant. If you're not already sold, here's one more huge win: one thing I hate being gluten free... you get the bill after a great meal and there's a ton of extra charges for making items gluten free. 4-8 dollars per each item and suddenly you're paying 20-40% more for things. Not here. Because of the way his recipes have been created and crafted to perfection, it's one menu that's safe for everyone and no hidden fees because of your food intolerance or allergies. I love fresh seafood and no trip to Pismo is complete without some. Having never stopped in El Pizmo, it was time, on this trip, to try it out! Service great and the food comes out super fast. And holy moly is it all incredibly fresh! The chowder?! The chowder. It's insanely good. So herbaceous and huge pieces of clam with the smallest potato bites; you're not getting a bowl full of filler here. The shrimp? Succulent. The oysters? Perfectly shucked and served with the appropriate amount of lemons. Even the tartar and cocktail sauces shine. This place rocks. My gripes are hella minor. I wish my oysters were served on ice. The ketchup bottle desperately needed wiping down/cleaning, as did some of the hot sauce bottles. And the seating options are those metal chairs that aren't the most comfortable but this isn't a spot for a leisurely meal. You're meant to get in, fill your belly, and get out. 10/10 will be back though next time I'm in town. read more

Unfortunately they were out of poke The tacos we ordered were decent, personally I would have liked more flavour in both but maybe that's because I burnt my tongue at Kbbq the day before. My partner said the tacos tasted good and we both were satisfied with the quality of the fish The calamari and chips looked disappointing to begin, there is not much calamari but some of the pieces are thicc bois. Came on a little family day trip and was searching the area for some good chowder! I know a lot of people love splash cafe, for me yes it's good but let's not overhype and wait in long lines when there's so much other places you can give a try. The chowder was bomb, thick but not too thick, so flavorful and plenty of chunks in there. Bomb! Get it. The calamari was also good, they come shaped as sticks they looked like huge potato wedges. The fish and chips were great with the tartar sauce and extra lemons, I got the rock fish? I'm not sure something rock, it was flaky and really meaty. The chowder fries were good too jsut French fries with chowder on top. Seafood salad was refreshing and delicious. Fresh poke had great seasoning and she also gave me a bag of tortilla chips to eat with it. I like how they serve tacos there as well. Star of the show was the dozen of raw oysters.... Soooo fresh and juicy so good! Some weee smaller than others but it was perfect! I'm still thinking about them. Great service, super fast and everything was hot and fresh! Saw the 4.7 rating and new I had to check them out, happy I stopped by. Great quality of food with great flavor being served here. Cozy small resteraunt with a few tables to sit at inside. Nice menu: fish, shrimp, clam chowder, tacos, ect. Ordered a Baja Fish Taco which ran me about $5 bucks for 1 taco. A bit pricy but a very good taco your being served. The fish was very fresh and battered/cooked to perfection. They top the fish with lettuce, pico de gallo, salsa and cream. Make sure to park along the main road or across the street in the parking lot as we all know parking in Pismo can get tight.
