Pappys is another St Joe institution from what I understand though this building is not as old as the ones downtown Pappy himself died several years ago, and his wife sold the business to the new owner. I ordered an iced tea and it came in a mini pitcher as my glass. We shared an appetizer platter and I went with the blue moon burger with fries from my lunch. The appetizers were pretty standard and the fries were the showcase of my lunch crinkle cut and cooked to perfection. The burger was not too bad, but a little small and the flavor for having blue cheese definitely wasn't that big. All in all fun little place and have a big variety on their menu. Came here after training camp. Wanted a beer after being in the heat. They're no longer a pub, just a restaurant with no alcohol. Just back from a traveling vacation trip. While driving down the highway saw a sign advertising a Pork Tenderloin sandwich. After doing some research we found out the Saint Joseph's is the pork tenderloin capital of the US. Used yelp to help us pick out a place and landed at Pappy's. They have a fairly big menu with lots of good sounding items, however had to focus on the tenderloin sandwich. It was wonderful. Some places have a huge piece of pork, however, to make that they pound it really thin. Not here. Pappy;s tenderloin is served on a great roll. It is bigger than the roll but does not cover the plate. It is just the right size. It was extremely juicy. Good thickness. Coating is just right. Was a great sandwich. It comes with a side. They have a lot of sides to pick from, like 3 types of fries. I went with the crinkle cut. They were nicely cooked and had a good crunch. What a small, wonderful place. The people who work there are extremely friendly and helpful. This is a great neighborhood place. I highly recommend it. read more

Portions are small like mac and cheese little bowl with like 2 bites was awefull but should have been good by thier prices even adams better than this place and if your going for burgers burgers are better at cabbage patch or fords. read more

I was given an opportunity to swing by downtown St. Joe's and have lunch at Pappy's Grill & Pub. It was a good sign to see the parking lot full, had to find parking on the side street. We were seated quickly even though the restaurant was close to full. Jodie was our server and was terrific. Drinks came out quickly, menus are found by finding the QR code on the table. Even though I looked through the menu, I already knew what I wanted when I saw food being delivered as I was being seated. It was the hot beef sandwich with gravy over french fries (see picture). I had hot sauce and a touch of ketchup on this drenched dish and it was terrific. Jodie kept checking up on us constantly and it seems this was a local hangout for the St. Joe's residents. Their tenderloin is popular for a reason. I got it without cheese because I don't think cheese belongs on a tenderloin. I ate it with mayo and pickles. It was great! And, the homemade chips were fabulous with "Greek" seasoning. Get the seasoning because it makes the chips even better. I couldn't stop eating those chips! The Mexican platter was good but not great. The beef was rather bland. The puffy fried flour tortilla was good, I just wish the beef had more seasoning. We had super friendly service and the waitress made good suggestions. Visiting family and we always like to eat at local restaurants...much better than your chain restaurants. This is a awesome place to eat. Where do I start? Hubs and I had the tenderloin sandwich... AMAZING!!! Uncle had the hot beef sandwich ... AMAZING!!! Unc said it was the best beef he's had in years!!! Portions... let just say if you leave hungry something is wrong... What a pleasant find, and I owe it all to Yelp! I decided to take a group of omnivores here for lunch after discovering that they served a vegan veggie burger. I didn't have high hopes - this is St. Joseph, MO, after all - but at least there'd be something for me to eat. It's a small, hole in the wall, dive bar-like pub, but it was very clean, even the restroom. It has its own parking lot, so you won't have any issues with parking. Again, it's St. Joe, so I wasn't sure what to expect in regards to acceptance, but we were welcomed and greeted with friendly smiles. The veggie burger was good; much better than I expected. It's made with black beans, and the ingredients and toppings tasted very fresh. The curly fries were hot and yummy too. The omnivores all loved their meat burgers and fried shrimp baskets. We were looking for a place to take an out of town friend. We wanted great food and a quiet atmosphere on a weeknight. We got both at Pappy's. I had not eaten here in a couple of years, but unfortunately for the state of my arteries, I think I will be going back more often. The tenderloin was the best I have had in awhile. They don't pound it out to make it 2 x as big as the bun, it was thick and juicy. The onion rings were great as were the bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, fried mushrooms, chicken wings and fries. This place is hilarious. It's a cute dive bar in St. Joseph that serves some great food. I walked in and say right down. It was odd that it was pretty busy for a weekday at lunch so they must've been there for something! There are good specials everyday and luckily my day was the chicken fried chicken. Amazing food btw for a cheap price! While waiting for food, there are signs posted all over this place. All are hilarious to read and great conversation starters. I was cracking up the whole time. It's a very fun environment. I would love to come at night for some drinks next time! read more

Definitely not the worst food I've had, but not within my expectations. I would not recommend the breakfast, I would rather make breakfast at home in the future. I had the Western Omelet. The eggs were very rubbery and the filling uneven (eggs probably from a carton). The hashbrowns were definitely not homemade, I saw them dump them from a box. Other people from our table had the breakfast burrito, it was mostly a dry tortilla shell with not enough filling. The food was about the quality of a public school cafeteria. On our way out I could see they were preparing burgers and they looked fresh, but based on breakfast I would not return. read more
