An absolute must try if you are in the area! The food and drinks are all made from scratch in house and absolutely amazing! My sweet tea was delicious and not over poweringly sweet as most of them are down south. The strawberry lemonade was great as it was sour not sweet and they use real strawberries for the syrup nothing artificial. I ordered their southeastern burger which was so good the bbq sauce and the crispy onions and burger and cheese all paired so perfectly. The spiral fries were extremely crispy and well salted. Thw bbq sandwich was equally as delicious if not better and paired with sweet potato spiral fries and a caramel dipping sauce OMG amazing. We were so full but managed room for dessert as their ice cream is made fresh in house. The roasted banana and strawberry are absolutely amazing. I cannot say enough good things about all the food and the staff here!

A friend and I went to Scottsboro for an overnight trip so we got here. It was about dinner time. I found Pappy's place on a yelp review. It was definitely your hole in the wall type place maybe they was five tables in there if that it was very small and quaint. It was right by the train track so you could hear the train when it came by. It was a little hot in there, but we pushed through and I got the classic cheeseburger and french fries, which were delicious and my friend got the patty melt which was also delicious she said The bathroom was a little small, probably needed an upgrade. When we walked in, looked like everyone turned around to see if they knew us. This is definitely a place. I would stop at again and get dessert. Their desserts looked really good, but we were so full. We just couldn't have anything else. The owners were very sweet and kind of gave us some recommendations of places to go in the area.

3.5/5 -- very close to a 4 but just not quite there for me. I actually came here for a late lunch after working nearby on Valentine's Day. It's sort of downtown Scottsboro, sort of not; it's down a side street so not super visible as you're driving along. Parking, for me, was pretty challenging. There are only a couple spots in front of the restaurant itself, and it wasn't clear whether it was okay to park in front of the other businesses (no spots parked with paint) and there was a decent amount of glass / other debris on the ground nearby. So I made the block and parked in a public lot a few streets away and hoofed it over there. The interior part of the restaurant is quite small; I'd be surprised if more than 15-20 people could eat inside at a given time. They do seem to have a patio out back that I'm sure could accommodate more people. I'd probably have preferred to have eaten out there, but I didn't ask and it wasn't offered; instead, I got a two-seater booth in the back of the restaurant, which was fine. There was one other person eating and a few people came in and out for takeout, but it was mostly quiet. Service was pleasant and efficient. Just one girl doing all the work but she managed just fine both waiting tables and taking payments. She even brought me a glass of tea to go for the road. I ordered a chicken tender lunch, which came with two sides. I ordered fries and the vegetable of the day, but they were out of that. They were also out of cornbread, which was my second choice. So I went full-fried-Monty and got fried okra. My food came out in the appropriate amount of time (especially since it was cooked fresh). One of my tenders had a tear in it and the waitress explained it was because the chef wanted to be sure they were cooked completely. I appreciated that. The food was fine! The tenders were cooked nicely and were HUGE! The portions were quite generous and I was able to take some home. The batter had a sort of fish-fry batter flavor to it, which is fine but not my favorite on chicken. The okra was probably the best thing. Not over breaded, very crispy, still tender and green and snappy on the inside. I also enjoyed the clearly house made ranch. Perfect for tenders, fries, and even a piece of okra or two...hehe. The biggest let down was by far the fries. They were absolutely glittering with grease, and the grease never seemed to drain off them, either. They did somehow retain some crispness -- puzzling, given the sheer quantity of grease -- but every bite was extremely oily. It's unusual for me to not finish fries, but I didn't finish these. It sounds like from other reviews burgers and shakes are the thing to get here; I just wasn't feeling it that particular day. There's clearly great potential here so I'd be happy to return and give those a try some day.

Delicious food, amazing family culture and AWESOME customer service!! I would Recommend this place to everyone!! If you are looking for a filling and delicious meal you have to come here!!!

So good! The spicy burger was great and the spicy ranch was also such a great sauce. The fries were hot and crispy and tasted great.

Small little spot with an outdoor seating area as well. The ladies were really nice. They have amazing milkshakes and desserts! I also ordered the fries with bbq pork on them. The bbq pork was sweet and very tender but way to smokey tasty for me.

This was some of the best food I have ever had. Cooked fresh, so good. We started with the fried cheese curds. Large portion, and so good. The. I had the country fried steak, with Mac and cheese and fried okra. So so good. The gravy was to die for, the steak was tender with a crunchy fried outside, and again freshly made with large portions. My friend had the grilled chicken and she was very pleased as well.

100/10 recommend. Great atmosphere and down to earth people. Amazing food and service. Everything is made fresh, and ice cream is homemade. Dessert was the best I've ever had.

Visited for lunch on Thursday and was unfortunately sorely disappointed…read more I arrived at about 12:45 and found a fairly full parking lot. The lot is a little torn up but not too bad. It's easy to get in and out. Walked around to the front and stood in the entryway for a few minutes. Didn't know the protocol since it was my first visit. Eventually, a waitress said loudly from the drink machine to seat myself, so I selected an empty booth near the kitchen. There's a lot of seating inside. I'd say the restaurant was about 1/3 full. Idk where people park when they're at capacity lol. Waitress came over and somewhat incredulously asked if I was by myself, which I confirmed. She pushed a scrap of white paper in front of me and told me to circle what I wanted and she'd pick it up. Eh...okay. It was a limited menu of meat + 3 combinations. They advertise breakfast till 1 as well as burgers and sandwiches but none of that was on there. However, the waitress' demeanor can only be described as frosty, and fortunately I was okay with my choices, so I kept to myself. But a part of me was kind of curious about breakfast for lunch. Alas. She returned with my tea wordlessly and swiped up my slip with my order. I circled a fried chicken breast with "potato patties" and fried okra. The sweet tea was the best thing I had and I enjoyed drinking it while I waited for my food. No refills or to go cups were ever offered though. I will grant the food came out fairly fast...but it also came out cold. Well, the chicken and potatoes were approximating room temperature, but the okra wasn't even lukewarm. My grouchy waitress also didn't give me any silverware and ran off before I could ask for any. I had to hunt down a different, only marginally less grouchy waitress so I could eat my food with a fork. It's a shame the okra was cold because it had a hint of potential; the breading was sort of cornmeal-y and might have once been crispy. As it was, it wasn't good at all -- the cold okra got slimy. The chicken was passable but also not nearly hot enough. The breading also needed more seasoning. The potato patties were...not patties? I was expecting something like a Jojo (small crispy potato round, thicker than a chip) or at least something circular lol, but instead I got two scoops of a sort of whipped potato casserole. This would've also been alright except it was lukewarm and, even worse, absolutely replete with still-crunchy large pieces of onion. Couldn't get a mouthful without them and left with much smellier breath. The one redeeming factor other than the tea was the bread basket: two yeast rolls and a hunk of cornbread. The cornbread was awful (bland and dry), but the yeast rolls were soft and warm and about the only food item I legitimately enjoyed -- even though, once again, my waitress left me hanging with no butter. I really couldn't wait to get out as I felt terribly unwelcome, so as soon as I ate what I could stomach I went to the marginally less unfriendly waitress and paid at the register. The price was decent (~$15 before tip). I did still tip, but I was salty -- legitimately some of the worst service I've had in a long time. I'm forgiving of long wait times and forgotten stuff, but I really don't like callous attitudes when I do my best to be pleasant and accommodating. Definitely wouldn't return. 2 stars because the food was edible and the place was clean enough. The hunt for a decent lunch in Scottsboro continues.

I made sure this was a place to stop since it is a novelty to me as there are none in the area where I live. I told my Dad about it before we left and he was on board as he never had it before. As we neared Scottsboro I was getting hungrier with each mile ticked off. We had had a late breakfast and snacks in between but we hadn't had a meal, per se. Coming down the four lane and seeing the big W in the sky I knew it was time. Pulled in and right into a spot. Went inside and kind of already knew what I wanted and knew my Dad would get his old reliable, bacon cheeseburger. I got the Double Meat Whataburger Whatameal. Everything on it as described. Went with the fries as my side and waited for the food to be ready. We got our drinks and napkins, found a table and sat our table number on the top and waited for our food. They must have been training a new employee that day, or so it seemed. There weren't too many smiling faces there as the manager, maybe, was overseeing the employee with the name tag "Paco Taco" putting in our order. He also served us our food and wasn't very enthusiastic about it. Once we had our food and got our choice of ketchup, one regular and one spicy for me, we started to dig into the food. Thinking my Dad was going to have something positive to say about this experience since he never had it before, but I was disappointed by it. He wasn't impressed and probably would have preferred going to a chain he already knew. Me, on the other hand, really dug into my food...well the portions of it that weren't falling all over the place. It did not matter how I held this burger, how far up I kept the wrapper, I ended up dropping something off of it with each bite. Onions, lettuce, pieces of tomato all falling out and onto the floor. Not even attempting to hit the table, but just straight to the floor or down the front of my shirt. It's always fun attempting to get mustard out of your white shirt. As for the fries, I feel like they were appropriately cooked, but held in a warmer for far to long before being served. They started to have that soggy effect that you get if they sit too long after frying. Was it worth the wait since the last time I had Whataburger? Yes. Should I have lowered my expectations walking through the door? Also yes. I would like to chalk this up to them just opening, but it appears they have been open a few years.

Honestly, it sort of looks like home from the outside, too! There's a sweet memorial for a dog who has passed near the front door, honoring their favorite spot, which I thought was precious. Even though I popped in only like 35 minutes til close, I was welcomed warmly and not rushed. Their menu has American classics like hamburgers, chicken tenders, sandwiches, hot dogs, onion rings, fries, etc. It seems like burgers are the main attraction here, though, so I got their take on a mushroom and Swiss burger (my fav) and some French fries. The sweet tea I had to drink was perfectly refreshing and quite sweet, just the way I like it. I do remember thinking the total was a touch high for a single patty, fairly thin burger, but it is what it is. At least it was clearly fresh and high quality, which is much more than you can say for fast food. Like I said, food was cooked fresh but still came out to me in a timely manner. Heck, the fries were still so hot I burned my mouth a teeny bit! I was just trying to eat and get out of their hair before closing, so my bad there haha. Frozen-fried crinkle cuts but they were nice and crispy. My biggest complaint about the whole experience was the salt was sort of just thrown on them in a pile at the top. So a few fries were extremelyyyyy salty and others not at all. The burger was, as expected, the star here! Cooked about medium-well, it was still plenty juicy despite the relative thinness of the patty. The mushrooms and Swiss cheese were so buttery and melty together. They add bacon to their mushroom and Swiss and honestly I could take it or leave it. Some of it wasn't as crispy as I prefer, and I think the mushrooms add the extra savory punch so bacon makes it a little heavy, but I'm honestly nit picking here. It was a very yummy burger. I very much enjoyed myself. This is the kind of spot my folks would love, so I hope to bring them back in the future, and also to come try the delightful-sounding Moon Pie banana pudding!

Chips and salsa were brought to the table without having to ask, which is always a welcome touch. Service was attentive considering there was only one server handling the floor. Props to them for keeping things running smoothly. The food was middle-of-the-road -- not the best Mexican I've had, but certainly not the worst either. If you're looking for a solid, no-surprises meal, it'll do the job. The atmosphere is actually one of the highlights. It's a nice bar setting, well-lit, and wasn't overly loud during our early visit -- easy to hold a conversation, which isn't always a given at a bar. Now, the restrooms could use some attention. They're a bit dated and in need of updating. I did get a chuckle out of the handwashing requirement sign posted prominently on the wall -- right next to the one soap dispenser that happened to be completely empty. It makes you wonder how closely that policy is actually enforced. Overall, La Cabaña by JUAN is a fine spot for drinks and a casual bite. Just maybe bring your own hand sanitizer.
