Soooo.... I sit at the bar waiting to be served and finally a representative comes around the corner. (Granted they did not see me sit at the bar yet.) Now grab your popcorn because this is where it gets interesting. Action.....ME: Looking at the drink menu, REP: I can help you over here, meaning at the cash register, ME: I am now sitting at the bar just looking at the menu before I decide, Can I just sit down for a minute? REP: Yes, after I help you at the register (Snarkly), ME: You mean, I have to order first before I sit down? REP: I can help you at the register, ME: Saying verbally "Wow, great customer service!" I order my libation before the flight. At first thought, maybe Bad day because next customer got the attitude also, but then a few other customers stream in and attitude seemed to change, hmmmm. TIP changed from $$ to 2.00. Scene ends...CUT, that's a wrap!!! End Credits: If it is a C-19 protocol for the establishment, it would be better verbalized or signage. Just my two cents.

It was a bit of a drive to Beech Island but I am glad we made the effort. Located in the former Crossroads Cafe building it isn't much to look at on the outside but it's truly a "you can't tell a book by its cover" experience. The inside is attractive, neat and very clean. Extra points for the spotless bathrooms. There are a dozen or so wooden table each with a small vase of cheerful real flowers. The servers greeted us pleasantly and told us to sit anywhere. We all wanted coffee and were told that they had a self service coffee bar which had three large pots of coffee and three creamer choices. They have their own roast of coffee which is very good but we found the coffee to be only lukewarm. When we mentioned it to our survey she said she would brew us a fresh pot and soon returned with piping hot coffee and a glass of half and half! Nice. They serve both their breakfast and lunch menu all day and I was tempted by lunch as breakfast foods aren't my favorite but ended up getting the fried chicken biscuit with sausage gravy: a buttermilk biscuit with a fried chicken filet topped with sausage gravy. It was very tasty. My companions got the eggs and corn beef hash plate and the biscuits and gravy with two fried eggs. The corn beef hash wasn't the canned type but was fresh hash browns cooked with onions and peppers and a generous amount of strips of corn beef. My mother declared it delicious. We had started the meal with a plate of fried green tomatoes. Five thickly sliced and perfectly fried golden tomatoes served with pimento cheese and a dipping sauce. They were so yummy. In retrospect we probably should have skipped them as none of us could finish our entrees! The portion sizes are large and we thought it was all reasonably priced. Every server was personable and friendly. They told us that they usually close at 2 but are staying open Thursday-Saturday until 8 for dinner. They have daily blue plate specials and Friday is fried catfish so I may be returning sooner rather than later. I highly recommend Sunrise Bistro for breakfast and will revisit this review after eating there for lunch or dinner. It is truly a hidden gem.

My late maternal Grandmother took several of us there when she closed on her home many years ago and I remember a very pleasant experience. The spot is stuck time and represents the glory days of South Augusta. It still smells and looks the same. We started with the Bavarian Fritters. They were so scrumptious. I love the apple sauce with which they are served. I had the pork schnitzel with Spätzle for my entree. It was delicious. They have outdoor dining and a large dining room. Our service was great and we had an excellent turnaround time on our food and orders. I took a slice of German Chocolate Cake home. Parking is free and ample. Come support this longstanding Augusta institution that has been around for 50 years. I'd recommend some updates from an infrastructure standpoint on their end to really improve the experience but otherwise we had a great experience.

I am revisiting my review of this iconic Augusta restaurant. We visited on a Wednesday evening and…read morethere were only a few folks there although our wonderful server told us it had been busier earlier. This restaurant has been here for 40 years and I fear she is on her last legs. Villa Europe is like a grand dame of yesterday in a shabby mink and run down heels. The wallpaper is torn her and there, the carpet is a bit worn and things just look old yet it is still cozy and somehow elegant. My daughter lamented that they "don't make restaurants like this anymore". Our waited predicted that the place would most like close by June. He said the building is too costly to maintain. It's a shame because this is our go to for German cuisine after having some negative experiences at the other German restaurant in the area. We did notice that they are no longer selling alcohol but fo offer some alternative options. As we always do we had German fare although Italian and American are offered. My daughter chose the braised pork with a mushroom cream sauce served with spaetzle and german potato salad. She declared it very tender and tasty. I had my perennial favorite Jaeger schnitzel with brown mushroom gravy and roasted red potatoes. I also had a nice side salad with excellent blue cheese dressing. Mom got the sampler platter with home fries and had to carry half home with her. Over all everything tasted great and the service was top notch. I hope to make it back before the doors close for ever. If you've ever enjoyed a meal there, or you are looking for superior German cuisine give Villa Europa a visit before the doors are closed forever on this Augusta tradition.
