I agree with all the previous reviews. This is the worst company I can remember having dealt with in the last 25 years or so. Just awful. They let my tank run dry while I was away last winter, nearly destroying a building foundation that had radiant circulating hot water heating the concrete slab and the building. They came for an annual tune-up last fall, and decided to improve my propane heating stove. They completely destroyed it, taking seven appointments (3 of which they never showed up for) to eventually get it back to operational; but even then we spent the whole winter with a stove that, when the burners came on, they came on with a concussive blast that rattled the windows. It cost me $4500 to replace that stove this summer. So I fired them. They were told to come pick up their tanks after August 31. I'm still waiting. Well, to be fair i'm waiting on 2 of the 3 tanks to be picked up. They apparently came and pick one up when I wasn't here, then billed me for equipment they purportedly owned. They were supposed to drain the tank and credit me for propane I hadn't used--not bill me for more money. So I made an appointment for Oct. 9--after I had to be very rude to their representative to get any appointment at all--to have them pick up the other two tanks. They of course never showed, never contacted me why not. I'm now considering having my new propane company drain the tanks, and then I will sell them for scrap metal. I have had enough. I have many other complaints, but this is only what has happened in the last year. This used to be a great little mom-and-pop company named Kosco, with people who worked hard and cared. Then a big company styling itself Paraco acquired them and the results were exactly what happens everytime large corporations take over productive small businesses. You have been warned. Go through everyone of the other 15 or so propane suppliers if you need propane in the Woodstock area. If you simply cannot find anybody else, then you need to convert to a wood stove and cooking over your fireplace. read more

We have lived in our current home for seven years, and started out with Heritage. Perfectly happy with them and their service. Then came the merger with Paraco. We were on a payment plan with them of $170 a month. Then, in November 2019, I noticed that the payment had not been processed. I called their office 4 times, and each time, was told that the payment was "Pending". The last time, they said that the payment had not gone through and that they would just take it out with December's payment. Apparently, that did not happen. Fast forward to July 2020, when I get a bill for $587. I email them and receive an answer back that there was a missed payment and that nullified the contract. Mind you, they had taken the payment out from December-May! They did not take the payment for June or July, which made us 3 months behind! I called Katie in the Credit and Collections Dept, who just told me that she would calculate our new payment, would break the $587 into 3 payments, and we would be responsible for the new monthly payment plus 1/3 of the balance, for a 3 month period. If we did this, we would be put back on automatic deductions and delivery. Well, the NEW payment is $250 a month! $80 more than what we were paying! So, we would have to pay $442 a month for 3 months! How can they just jack up our payment so extremely?? We live in a little 2 bedroom house that is, literally, not more than 800 sq ft! $250 a month! Robbery! I'll be looking for a new company! Please go to a different company, if at all possible! read more

This is the worst propane company I have ever dealt with. I switched to them because they are a vendor we use through my job. The company I work for manages manufactured home communities so I will be sure to let our other communities know just how terrible they have been. I am set up for pre-auth auto-delivery. That means they charge my debit card before filling the tanks and automatically come out to fill my tanks for me. They have no taken any payment since February but have still been delivering propane. I found the bills shoved in my back door which is clearly not in use as my porch is in an unsafe condition. Long story short, I am without propane right now and they won't even hear me out until I make a payment which is now over $600 since they have not been taking the payment as they were supposed to. Their customer service reps are very unprofessional and each one you talk to has a different story for you. No one knows what is going on there. I started having a lot of issues with them messing up my account since December of 2017 and this incident broke the camels back. They can come pick up their tanks as I want nothing further to do with any of them. I will also be sure to tell the corporation I work for exactly what my experiences have been and that I recommend we find a new vendor to fill all of our inventory homes. read more

This is the most awful company I've ever dealt with. Extremely rude and ridiculously expensive. Ever interaction with them has involved multiple phone calls and chats. They are defensive and argumentative. I've had only one good CSR that I've dealt with. If you're thinking of going with this company, save your yourself and your wallet a lot of heartache and pass them by. I would love to change but I am stuck with them. All they care about is their money. Had Paraco for a number of years until I found out about other companies that offered tanks without rental fees and a much lower price per unit. I switched to another company, called Paraco to cancel, then a few more times to pick up their tank. 2 years later they picked it up without notifying us then sent us a bill for near $150 calling it a restocking fee. I would never use them again, and am telling everyone I know how outrageous their charges are. read more

Go with ANYONE different possible. This company is the worst I've ever delt with. They started off by trying to charge me over 250 dollars for 1 hr of work in a rented house that I shouldn't have had to pay for becuase it was set up for them to reach out to my landlord if anything extra needed to be done. I called so many times to get it cleared up. They said they would help... nothing.. no help just more bills and threats of collections. Finally after a year it got cleared up by a woman named debbie and Rachel the only 2 women there that were helpful. Unfortunately that was the only help I got.. I tried to cancel my service. Wow that was a mistake it took me 2 hours of trying to fight with these people to get my money back. The tank was mostly full and they just made up any excuse they could to not give me my money. then went on to tell me that they would get around to it whenever and that it wasnt a priority to pick it up and give me a refund for the remaining gas. Then I was told that I would be charged a restocking fee of their own takes for 120 dollars. This company is a joke and they very clearly dont know what good business is. People who use them I'm sorry for you losses and dont expect good service. They are a joke. I'll never deal with them again!!! Oh and when I first started my service they made me pay them over 350 for install and gas and then they made me wait almost 3 weeks to bring me my tank. That should have been my first red flag!!! This is now the third time in about 12 months that Paraco has allowed my gas to run out while I am supposed to have auto fill. Every time I've run out because of their failure to keep my tanks full it's like pulling teeth to get them there and fill me back up. It happened again tonight and i called this evening to get my tanks filled at 8:30pm and didn't hear back from anyone until 10:30 and that person said they wouldn't be able to make it for another 30 minutes (11pm) at the earliest. Too late. The thing is, every time they let the gas run out it's this big ordeal to get the gas turned back on even though they are the ones that let it run out. They need to do leak tests which require someone to be home but scheduling them to come when I'm home is impossible. Then, my pilot lights need to be relit by me because they won't touch it. Last time this happened my pilot light couldn't restart because of air in the line when the propane ran out so I had to pay a plumber $150 to bleed my lines. This business and their ineptitude are making me lose money and of course they give nothing back for all the money I lose or inconvenience I suffer without hot water or cooking gas for days. If you have a choice stay away from this business. I wish it was easy to switch gas companies. If they fail me again or fail to rectify this current situation quickly I'm done with them. read more

I'm retired and have a small house that I've heated with wood since before 2015. I'm reporting price gouging by this company. Because I am old I got our furnace serviced and modified to work perfectly so that when I am deceased my wife will have an alternative heating method. I just got a delivery of gas because I ran out of wood about the end of March and wanted to ensure that the propane heating system worked perfectly, so I used about 115 gallons of propane over about a two-month period. It was pretty mild as concerns weather. I called Paraco and they promptly delivered and filled me up. Then I got the bill. They charged me $6.44 a gallon, and also previously charged me $85.32 for renting the tanks with which they have done no service for the entire time I have lived in the house and we have been a customer since 2005. The national average price for propane is about 1/2 of what they have charged me. When I complained the person was VERY CLEAR in that since I was not purchasing the minimum, my price is whatever they want to charge me based upon some rather arbitrary usurious standard in collaboration with other price gougers. I am shocked and dismayed at this price gouging of older vulnerable people. I complained to the Attorney General, and will do as much as I can to shine a light on these practices, which take advantage of long time vulnerable customers. I would find another company if I were you, and make sure to ask them what their going price is! read more

My family has used this company for our heating oil and service for 35 years. There are glitches especially when it expanded last year but I tend to be on top of things and monitor my own tank and raise alarm bells as necessary. When anything goes wrong they're at my house as I'm dialing. It's been my experience that Upstate NY lacks such prompt services so I'm greatful to them. read more

I have been a satisfied customer of KOSCO for 28 years. Never really had an issue with them till Paraco merged with them. This week I lost heat and hot water 3 times; had a technician come to my house 3 times, and apparently not fix the issue. The technician today ( the third one) told me what the problem was, but that he had no access to the part that was needed and therefore I was out of luck; could not tell me when the problem would be fixed....he said it frustrated him as well to not be able to take care of the customers. Tomorrow I will probably have to take my family to a hotel. I plan on lodging a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and switching companies. And all this with a useless 'service contract'. Thank God it is not February and I'm not disabled or a senior citizen, or this could be life threatening. Customers deserve far better than this. read more

this place is just a company filled with thieves. i called in to have my tank refilled and i was told they would have to do a safety check especially since i mentioned about occassionally smelling gas. the rep mentioned that she would have someone come out to lock my tank in the meantime while they can determine an appointment date. i asked if there would be a charge for this and she told me no. a technician came out, locked the tank and went about his merry way. next i called about the appointment and they said an agent would contact me to setup a time which never happened. he showed up at my home when i was at work. anyway he ended up waiting and he came and stepped in my apartment to check if there is a gas leak.. how he checked was by sniffing if there was any smell of gas in the atmosphere (genius *rollseyes*). all of this took five minutes because he checked the tank also. i then received a bill of $97.33, and i called to find out why because that's just absurd especially because the price is vastly differently from a previous safety check i did when i first moved in the apartment and that technician at the time actually did some work and there were parts ordered. the moron of a representitive told me the $97.33 was for a tech coming out to lock the tank. i told her that made absolutely no sense whatsoever because if i wasn't charged for the tank to be locked why in the hell am i getting charged for it to get unlocked when it has to get unlocked either way for them to fill the tank. that by the way i paid $288 dollars for. so that's $288 plus $97.33 for what i do not know. i spoke to my landlord about it and he said that he is responsible for all service charges; so it seems that they have been billing both of us for the same thing. essentially a double billing. this is a terrible company, with nincompoops working as customer service agents. i refuse to pay that bill!!!! read more

I have been a customer for many years and did not have any particular problems when the company was called Kosco, before their "merger" with Paraco Gas. I have for many years been paying for something called "No Surprise plan" for $355 a year which I did for a peace of mind, for an emergency situation. Never had to use it, all they did was to clean the boiler once a year. This very cold week in January this year the pipes froze in one zone of the house. After trying to get through to them during 24 hrs over the New Years weekend without luck I finally got through to Paraco the following day. No info had been passed through from the phone service they used. The person from Paraco I spoke to was argumentative from the start, rude and would not listen. I get it that many people were calling with emergencies that particular week but this person was clearly not right for her job. Finally 32 hrs later someone does come out, takes a look at the boiler and tells me what I already know, that the pipes are frozen. He then shuts the valves off, (something the plumber later said was a bad idea) tells me he can not do anything and I have to call the plumber. This I do and a long story later the problem is fixed. But I get a bill from Paraco for their visit including parts!!! for $129!!! When calling about this in spite of paying $355 a year for an emergency plan am told this service was not included in the No Surprise plan! This is outrageous and really, really bad service. They have lost my confidence as a consumer. read more

We (unfortunately) have a Paraco propane tank. We received a call around Christmas from one of Paraco's in-house sales reps offering us a "special discounted price" of $3.40/gallon. My husband said he'd check our tank and get back to them. When he returned the call, we were informed that the price was $4.50/gallon; my husband reminded the salesperson that he was offered $3.40/galllon initially and that the NYSERDA price for our area is $2.73/gallon. After some haggling, we were told that $3.40 was the "best" they could do, b/c we were a "low order" customer. So we called NYSERDA, who agreed that Paraco was overcharging us. Then we filed a complaint with the NYS Department of Consumer Affairs that Paraco was price gouging. Soon thereafter, the same salesperson called -on a Saturday- that we could have a "special discount" of $2.75/gallon. We agreed - but the delivery person never left a slip with the price, so we had to call back and request a bill - b/c we didn't want to get stuck with late charges that were no fault of our own. We have decided to let our tank run dry and purchase our own tank - so that we never have to go through dealing with Paraco again. We've had too many issues with overcharges. read more

Company is a bunch of Thieves. Every month during the winter they purposely let me run out of propane and tell me they have to do a leak test well every time they do the leak test they charged me 199 dollars 100 dollars for leak test and 99 dollars for service call. When I told them I'm not paying the fees because it's not my fault I ran out i get a bill for the fees and that was 3 different times. Than now they came out when I wasn't home and shut off my tank on the valve so they would have to come back out to turn it back on and once again charge me 199 dollars to turn it back on and the service fees. I'm not paying any of it it's not my fault I ran out i put in many delivery request every time before I ran out. I will be calling and flipping out once again today because they are thieves and just trying to get money that isn't supposed to be owed to them so they do what they want. All winter long I had heap on my account. Regular heap emergency heap and the 2 emergency heap Benefit that was given this year 2018. read more

1/8/2016 am still waiting for an oil delivery that was scheduled for 12/29/17, tank is running on empty. I'm lugging 5 gal. jerry cans of diesel from nearby gas stations to keep my furnace running. Kosco stopped answering their phones, and have an answering service taking the many irate calls coming in. When they did answer the phones it was all excuses and vague promises of delivery or a call-back, which never came. Do these people actually have enough oil to meet the demand? I wonder. They were quick to take my pre-payments, but then do not deliver. This is an expensive scam when your pipes freeze. Avoid doing business with this company. They are not reputable. They are not dependable. I gave them money. They give me headaches. read more

Awful beyond words. Do whatever you can to avoid Paraco. I'm in Chichester, NY. Because of weather, my propane usage is higher than historically normal. I check the gauge and see I'm below 25%. On Friday I call Paraco and say please give me a delivery. They promise a delivery yesterday. Late yesterday afternoon, I receive an email stating that I've received a delivery and enclosing an invoice. The invoice shows 0 gallons delivered and 0 dollars due. I call "customer service" and get a dimwit who has absolutely no idea about anything. No clue as to why nothing delivered. No means to find out until tomorrow. No means to reach the driver. What if I'm out of gas when I get home, I ask. "Then please call us," she says. Why? Like I called you yesterday? So you can promise to send me a delivery, like you did yesterday? They are completely and utterly unequipped to provide meaningful customer service. Oh, and this was the third call. i am absolutely disgusted with paraco gas. the customer service is horrendous, we called at 8 am with no propane the answering service did not put a ticket through as they were supposed to. we called at 11 spoke with rose who was very nice but failed to get us any propane, we called back at 330 spoke with george who gave us the run around for 40 minutes and had less knowledge than we did about a propane delivery. we will be sleeping in a cold house because of their incompetence. we have been a customer for 20 years and this is how we are treated. come monday we will be looking for another propane supplier. paraco/kosco sucks. read more

i have been a loyal customer for 15 years and it has been a good service and provider till kosco merged with paraco. something awful happened at this point. in oct i wanted to get propane for my studio. they came and i spent a lot of money for basically two new thermostats placed on heaters. one month later i had problems with the first one. someone came (he was knowledgeable and good ...jay)...he said the thermostat was bad and replaced it wit a new one. all was well till i got a new bill for labor and new thermostat.....many calls to machine, hang ups and trying again before getting someone who finally said they apologized and would dismiss the bill. one month later ...the thermostat in the second room died......repeated all of the above......again....someone came.....good guy.....said the thermostat shorted out due to it's placement on the heater.....again,...new thermostat....again....new bill with labor and charge for new thermostat......i am on the phone noe (so far waiting for someone 25 minutes) so. while i am waiting i will let you all know what happened on new years day....jan 1-2. on the coldest day of the year the heat (oil) in my house stopped. i am over 65 and (now have a cold)....and called in for emergency. finally got someone alive ....he said he couldn't tell me when but someone would be there.....hmmm they arrived the following morning at 7:30 am....i was up all night huddled with blankets, dripping water from the faucets so the pipes didn't freeze. all night ...waiting for the "call" that never came. i called in three times to the office asking for help!....i was told they had many situations and i was on the list and would be seen. so....here's the lich-pin: ...when the man came (nice) he said i was out of oil...my tank was empty.....hmmmmm. i am on automatic refell and pay a lot for all these services (that has been good up till now)....i was shivering and it took a long time for the heat to begin to warm the house (who pays for all this extra heat?....ME)..... oh....35 minites later I have a person on the phone who apologizes (sounds tired of apologizing....weary in fact)....the bill for thermostat is taken care of (yippee) and another apology for the no heat in house. right now i am sick and still bone-chilled and angry....and for what? read more

Worst customer service I have ever expeirenced. I set up an account for the new house I just moved into on Friday and almost 400 dollars was taken from my account on Saturday morning. By Tuesday we had run out of propane, so I called to see when they were planning on delivering it since I had already paid. I spoke with Jamie and told her right away that I did not have propane so I had no heat, hot water, or cooking fuel in the beginning of February. She was exceptionally rude to me, treating me like it was my fault that there was no propane and informing me that no one would be able to help me until sometime the next day, Wednesday. I asked if there was anyway we could moved forward to safety check so the delivery could come sooner and she was adamant that no propane could be delivered until the safety check had been preformed. When I said that I was concerned because I have pets including exotic birds which are very sensitive she told me that I was "just going to have to deal with it." I was upset so I called back and asked to speak with a manager. First I was told that the two managers that were there were on a call and they would have to give me a call back. Then I called back again and spoke with Amber, who was also very obnoxious, and she let slip that the managers had only been emailed, and that they weren't even there. I was told that they would give me a call back as soon as possible. I am still waiting, days later. The next day arrives and the fellow who is supposed to preform the safety check. We told him that we do not have any propane and he was very surprised and said that he cannot check the equipment unless there is propane. This to me seems like a no brainer but Jamie was so insistent the day before that I believed her. So this guy, Gerard, who was very nice, calls the company and says that someone will be there shortly to deliver the gas. He also said that we could call customer service and see where that particular truck was at the moment. We called several times and spoke with Jamie, again, and Dominique. After putting us on hold for several minutes each and having a loud laughing conversation on the other end about us that we could hear, they told us that there is no way to see where the truck is. I cannot believe that as a brand new customer this is how I have been treated. I still have not heard back from a manager about these issues and I doubt I ever will. Do not give these people your money. read more
