While the initial pickup location was a bit tricky (in part due to uber drivers with their own opinions) we quickly recovered. Captain Shay was 100% professional and 110% down for a good time - exactly what you need when dealing with a bunch of crazy girls on a bachelorette! Family of 5 from Texas - Captain Shay and his pontoon were exceptional! Arrival and boarding was a little unconventional but did not take away from our experience at all. Cpt. Shay is a bright and energetic personality that was a pleasure to be around. He kept us all entertained with local history and lore while expertly handling his craft through busy harbor waters. One thing we did not expect was that Cpt. Shay had a drone with him that he used to take aerial video of our kids at play on the Crab Island obstacle course. I expected to be made an offer to 'purchase' the video footage as an extra, but nope... this was just something our fine Captain did as a part of his service for free! mIt was great to be able to take some video home of our vacation. The boats are all in top shape, clean, and completely equipped for however many hours you spend on the water. They let YOU decide where the boat goes and how long it stays there. They become your personal bar tenders, servers, and tour guides once you get on the boat. We saw dolphins, sea turtles and other marine life on our dolphin tour. Went into the harbor and did a slow tour of the big boats and waterfront homes. Finally ended up at famous Crab Island and enjoyed the knee deep water there. They had several water toys and floats we used while we were there. Pick up and drop off location was very convenient with lots of free parking and only 20 feet to the boat. Unless you want to be ghosted, DO NOT MAKE A MISTAKE AND BOOK WITH THIS "COMPANY". We had a reservation for 6 people for an all day cruise in addition to a shuttle to/from the dock. Shay was initially great with communication and confirmed with us the night prior, but the day of the trip just left us hanging with no communication at all. He didn't even respond to our texts/emails/voicemails where we were giving him the benefit of the doubt that something may have happened and they were running late. Horrible experience, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Salt Water Pedal Pubs came to our rescue and were able to book us on one of their boats, BOOK WITH THEM INSTEAD! We rented 1/2 day (5 hours at this place apposed to 4 elsewhere) and they were there ready to go when we pulled up15 minutes early. Captain Shay did not show up for our chartered boat tour today. Just did not show up. No text, no call, no communication at all. I booked with Shay at Paradise Pontoon in May for our July trip to Destin. I contacted him as requested on the website and accepted the google invitation for the day to confirm as requested. Shay FaceTimed me once and showed my 3 girls a glimpse of all they would get to see on their chartered boat tour. They were beyond excited. The day before I called and texted Shay to confirm with no response. We were to meet on the dock at 8:30. I called and texted numerous times before the appointed time, even sent a Facebook message just to try to get in contact with him in every way I could think of. He never responded. My family got ready and waited on the dock for Shay for nearly an hour before we finally gave up and had to tell our girls he wasn't coming. Shay never contacted us and still has yet to answer any texts, calls, or messages. I am beyond disappointed at the lack of professionalism and common courtesy displayed by this charter company and Captain Shay. While he may have many good reviews, the number of bad reviews that state a similar experience to mine today should be enough to deter you from using this company. It's terrible to build something up for your kids and then not be able to follow through and you can't even tell them why because the captain refuses all communication. I still don't understand why a simple text to let us know he wasn't coming was too much to ask for. I tried every means of communication possible with absolutely no response from Shay. If I could leave negative stars, I absolutely would! Captain Breed was very responsive when I first contacted him at the start of the year (about 6 months ago) regarding a trip to Crab Island for 28 girls for a Bachelorette Party. Our reservation was made on January 11, 2019 for a full day on the boats on June 24, 2019. The month or so before our arrival, I sent Captain Breed MULTIPLE follow-up emails: (1) May 2, 2019: Email sent to verify pricing; Response stated he would have to look at the invitation to verify pricing and would email in the morning. (2) May 7, 2019: Follow-up email sent regarding May 2 response that we never received. (3) May 21, 2019: Second follow-up sent after no response was received. (4) May 22, 2019: Response received clarifying total cost and gratuity amount. (5) June 18, 2019: Email sent to verify timeline, departure point, supplies, and payment. My cell phone number was included to answer any questions or discuss over the phone if easier. JUNE 22, 2019 (two days before our event is scheduled) I receive the following from Captain Breed in an email: "The Coast Guard are not allowing any pontoon boats with Captains to operate with more than 6 passengers now. I would call the Cattywampus Aquatic Adventures 850-586-0450. They could accommodate all 27 gals on their vessel. Sorry about this news so late." I responded that this was incredibly unprofessional to cancel so close to date especially given the MULTIPLE follow-up emails we have sent to make sure everything was in order. I then proceeded to make calls to at least 8 other companies in the area, and I was informed that he is known as Captain "Shady" Breed because this is considered normal in his business practice. Captain Breed then sent the following response: "When you place a Captain as a paid operator of such a vessel, than it has to have a Certificate of Inspection, which pontoons boat's cannot attain. It's common practice for these rental companies to put a dockhand on the boat, with no Coast Guard credentials at all, and he drives you to Crab Island and back, which is a round trip of less than a half a mile. They get away with it for some reason, but I cannot do the same. Call the Coast Guard if you don't believe me. If you hire a captain to operate your pontoon boat, all he can legally carry Is 6 persons. 27 gals would require 5 boats, 5 captains at around $750.00 for the day each. $3750.00. That would be the quote I would have given you now I'm limited to 6 or less passengers. I've delivered incredible experiences to hundreds of customer's and I'm sorry your group wasn't one of them, but at least you've got some notice to work with." We hired Captain Breed to captain our pontoons back in JANUARY. He clearly knew the law and was OPERATING ILLEGALLY by captaining boats for groups larger than six people up and UNTIL HE GOT CAUGHT and received a citation. THIS GUY IS AN ABSOLUTE FRAUD. He should NOT be allowed to operate a boat for profit. This wasn't your standard lack of customer service, he is knowingly and willingly breaking the law and putting his passengers at risk. If you are looking for pontoon rentals, check out Dockside Water Sports. They were affordable and extremely helpful! I contacted Shay on Monday, July 27th inquiring about boat captains for a boat I had booked for my best friends bachelorette party. He was very helpful and responsive and sent me some people to reach out to. When no one was available I asked if he had availability on Friday, August 14th and he said yes so I booked his services. I received an email confirmation a few days later with the details of our trip (we booked an all day cruise), he even customized it with the bride and grooms names. He mentioned he offered a shuttle service so I reached out to him a few days prior to our trip to book the shuttle service in which his roomate/ex girlfriend, Jamie was to pick us up at 9:00am on Friday morning from Seaside. He called to discuss confirmations with me that Tuesday before and as you can see from our text thread he confirmed that Jamie would be there at "9:00am sharp...if not a few minutes before!" on that Thursday evening. However, JAMIE NEVER CAME, CAPTAIN SHAY NEVER RESPONDED, answered my phone calls, emails, etc. We sat at our house for 2 hours waiting for him to respond to let us know what happened and WE NEVER HEARD BACK. I left 3 voicemails and as you can see from the texts I never heard from him again. We found several reviews buried deep under all the 5 star reviews that encountered the same situation as us. These groups were either stranded at the docs, lead to a strange house or never heard from Captain Shay again. Apparently, this man who runs this business is known as "Captain Shady" and I can see why. He shows no remorse for what he does to people and does not deserve to be running a business. As an entrepreneur myself, it sickens me that someone could just leave a bunch of girls stranded with no other options. His prices seem great, and almost too good to be true. BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. Do not book paradise pontoon or you will surely be stranded like us. Luckily an incredible company heard what had happened to us and offered us a spot on their boat. Book CRAB ISLAND WATER SHUTTLE instead. Love love love this guy! He knows his way around the waters and even took us to see dolphins and flying fish! We also had videos and pictures of our crew with his drone. The loading was a little unconventional but who cares we had an amazing time! He left us wanting more!! We got to see the sun set, chill in crab island, and cruise all over the place! Such a peace of mind knowing you don't have to drive the boat yourself! He has plenty of ice and water aboard and a huge cooler to store your food and drinks. My girlfriend booked a four hour outing for our family with Captain Shay last night around 9PM for this morning from 8am- Noon. She said he was really nice and gave us a really great rate of $200 for four hours, fast forward to this morning the man straight up doesnt show up AT ALL not late AT ALL. I get a call around 11:30 from Captain Shay informing me "My bad I just rolled put of bed, I was out on the boat til 10:30pm last night, I'm sorry" I was so pissed I just hung up. This man didnt even bother to call my girlfriend and apologize even though he knew good and well he made arrangements with her, good thing we hadn't given him any money yet. Unfortunately, my experience was less than successful. I booked with Captain Shay on the phone about 2 months before a bachelorette party. I took a risk with booking him, because of the other bad reviews on cancelations etc. I was truly hoping it didn't happen to us. Well, it did. Two weeks prior to our trip, he called me (I wasn't able to answer so he left a voice mail) and texted me saying it was confirmed. He emailed me a google calendar with ALL the information we needed, including an address and time for pick up. The day that we were supposed to sail out to crab island, he was a no show. We waited for about an hour, called and texted several times with no answer. Some of the girls in our party (not me) saw him take another group out instead of us. Long story short, I got another way of getting to crab island and confronted him wondering why he didn't follow through on our trip. He had NO explanation and acted like he had no idea who I was. Just acted very nonchalant like it wasn't a big deal. He verbally said to me he was, "trying to get a boat and captain for us." OK....why wasn't this done and prepared for our arrival when he knew about it several months in advance? That just doesn't make sense. Now, it's about 3:30-4:00 and we're desperately searching for a back up plan. We eventually booked with another boat service and Cpt. Shay did provide us with a captain for our boat. We were scheduled now for only about an hour and half left of the day to spend on crab island. This was the ONE thing we all were the most excited about and it was stressful and disappointing to say the least. We ended up having our pontoon parked right next to his to which he came over to our party attempting to make up for him bailing on us. Which also, technically took time away from him taking care of his party he had actually taken out (and they were not happy). I understand trying and making an effort, but at that point we were all over it. To all of this I would say, KEEP LOOKING. I'm sure the people he does take out, have a good time (and that's why there are good reviews). I don't know how he picks and chooses who to take out and why he overlooks double booking or whatever happens, but you have a 50/50 chance of him not taking you out. He was not there, and I never got a call or text saying he wanted to cancel etc. I still have yet to hear from him OR paradise pontoon and I urge ANYONE who wants to go on a boat trip NOT TO BOOK WITH THEM. Captain Shay is very unprofessional. Prices kept changing, deposit amounts kept changing and "company policies" kept changing. We didn't feel Comfortable using his services, so we cancelled a few days in advance. He kept texting me every day of our vacation about coming out on his boat and leaving me rude voicemails about not responding to his texts( we had cancelled- why am I obligated to communicate with him any further?) When discussing cancellation, his words were "you only pay for time spent on the boat" and that the deposit was fully refundable if cancelled within 24 hours. When we called about the deposit refund he kept talking in circles and still to this day hasn't refunded our full amount. Please stay far away! A great pontoon company is Dockside. We used them two years in a row and they were awesome! Ps. In response to his "comments" below.... he is still providing false information. I followed the proper Protocol by cancelling online the same as I booked. The text was out of consideration. I could go on and on about the conflicting information he provided, but as you can see he doesn't take responsibility for his role as a business owner. Even in his response you can tell he has no customer service skills. He talks in circles and says one thing one day and something totally different another day. Google his name. His mugshot and felonies also didn't make us feel comfortable using his services. In the end... it is up to you who you book with. All I know is based on my total experience.... he is not someone I would even slightly consider again. Look up reviews of his company on this site and other sites as well. I am not the ONLY negative review out there. If he was as reliable and "amazing" as he claims.... why do other people Find him shady as well? read more
