First visit to Paradise Sewing ever and was greeted by owner Peter. I was only looking to possibly replace my 30+ year old Pfaff 1471 machine. Showed me a few machines that were equal to what my old machine was, but much improved over the years. To make a long story short I walked out after purchasing a Pfaff Quilt Expression 720. Peter gave me such a deal that it was hard to walk away. I not only got the machine, he added into the deal the following. So I also got the table top extension, cone thread holder attachment and is having the insert made so that I can still use my original cabinet. We had planned a day to take drive and I looked up a few sewing machine stores to stop at. Paradise was on the list to stop at among with a few others. I had done my research online and had a good idea as to what I wanted and what they sold for. So when Peter gave me the price I was well aware of how good a deal it was, especially with the additional items. If you are in the market to buy a sewing machine I would check out Paradise Sewing in Poway. They carry many different brands of machines so I'm sure you will find what your looking for. As for me Paradise Sewing isn't local to me, but I will return if I need any additional supplies, classes or to get help. Visited again on February 7, 2020. I sort of feel bad for writing a not so good reviews about this place because the people that works here are really nice. So I just want to be clear about this review is only applied toward the quilting classes I took - especially with the instructor I took name Jan. I took their beginner quilting class here (5 classes for $45). The price is definitely not bad at all because it was what attracted me to signing up in the first place. I figure 5 classes are better than just learning a quick one at Joann's. As a beginner, never sewn before. I expected to learn the basic of the machine and what not. Well, I don't believe that's true. I felt immediately after the first 5 mins of the class, Jan expected you should know how to sew and have some quilting experience before. It's just crazy! First of all, prior to the class. You will received a list of items to purchased before the actual class starts. Which is great because I like being prepared. However, each time prior to class starts. The instructor will introduced you to new products and you sort of are almost forced to purchased it. When I say force, I don't mean they make you. Don't forget, I'm a beginner so all I know best is to follow exactly what she uses. And I come to realized half of the things of that initial lists that I purchased prior to the class were never used because I'm too busy playing catch up with the actual products that the instructor introduced to want us to use instead. I would recommend that they update the lists to what they actually prefer us to get versus giving us a lists to purchased prior to classes and then tell us, "Well, the book asked you to get them, but I would use this instead." You also are asked to purchased fabrics prior to coming to your class. Well, shoot. Where do normally go to get fabrics? Joann's. Well, the instructor kept dissing how Joann's fabrics are poor quality. If it's poor quality, WHY didn't you just mentioned specifically where to get the fabrics? Second, the instructor isn't a great teacher. She might have TONS of quilting experience in her life time, but her teaching skills are ALL over the place. I have come to realized that just because you're good at something doesn't make you an expert in teaching someone how to quilt. I know she's been doing this her whole life and practically can put a quilt together with her eyes closed. I know this because she likes to brag about herself. It's just so annoying. I paid to learn not to spent the first 30 mins to 1 hour listening to bragging about her quilting tasks. She used a lot of quilting language / terms that I'm just literally scratching my head. Be sure to ask her what does it mean? Otherwise, she will run with it and you will feel lost. Her teaching method is not one smooth transition from start to end. It's like showing you a different pattern / blocks / styles than what we're supposed to be working on. Confuse the heck out of you. Then the following the week, she would apologize and said she should not have mentioned other different block. She seriously has some A.D.D. in her for sure. I had to figure things out with the book instruction and my blocks do not come out to the same measurements (close, but not exact). Then the instructor would be like, "Well, your blocks do not look like they are quarter inch...". I'm just thinking to myself that it wasn't like you actually taught us as I had to figure it out myself. She likes to make you feel bad too. For example: when she was showing us how to bind. The last piece of it was to demonstrate to leave extra fabric so you can pin the two pieces together. Well, she had it flipped the opposite way. Had me sew it and then when the pieces came out twisted. She basically said it was my fault. I had to undo what she did and I just followed the instruction she gave me. When I finally got it figure it out myself, she likes to make jabbing comments that does not make you feel good. She said, "Well, third time is a charm!" I'm thinking to myself, really. Third time? YOU screw it up the first time then walked away and I had to figure the correct way myself so don't give me your "third time is a charm" attitude. Just not appreciate it. I would say, if you are thinking about signing up for their beginning quilting class at this place. I would say do it, but just make sure you have some quitting experiences or background. If you don't, the instructor can easily confuse the heck out of you. It sort of make this learning experience a bit dull. At the end of this 5 week course, I am so happy to be done. Have I learned a lot from knowing nothing? Yes. I have, but I would be very caution in taking their quilting class. Also, if you're taking their class. You also get 25% discount. Which in my opinion, Amazon and with Joann's coupon comes out still cheaper. Do your homework and shop wisely. read more

Okay, a sewing machine store review from a husband's perspective. My wife asked me to take her late model machine in for a service check as it was not sewing properly. I'm mechanically inclined, but decided it was better in this case not to tempt fate and instead take it to the pro's. She said to take it to Paradise Sewing and ask for the owner, Jinny. My wife likes the fact it is owned by a woman. Well, Jinny wasn;t there, but I did talk to her technician (Eddie?) and he seemed to be very knowledgable. He asked me several questions that led him to a preliminary conclusion.... he really seemed to know his stuff. He commented that both he and Jinny are both factory certified sewing machine technicians (in other words, NOT hacks). Having experinced other people working on things over the years I appreciate trained people that won't mess up your items. Short story, they did a great job, were very reasonable, and got the machine back to factory-performance withing the quoted time (1 week). They were polite, and the store and service areas were both large and clean and neat! Poway can be a little out of the way for some, but I've learned that good service is worth seeking out, and Paradise Sewing appears to be well worth seeking out! read more

Have asked owner, Jinny, at least 10 times over 4 months to order me a bolt of a certain fabric. I am still waiting. Unless Jinny is out of town and they are having a sale, prices can easily be beat by shopping at Amazon.com, Fabric.com, uncommonthreads.com or eBay. Even then, there isn't a big selection of fabrics or accessories. Classes are usually fun, depending upon instructor, but I only buy what I have to buy from a Pfaff or Babylock dealer there, as prices are just too high, unless it is something I need right away. Most guest speaker events are also REALLY disorganized, and I am still waiting for the promised files from two events 3+ months ago. Eddie in service is fantastic at caring for machines, and most of the staff is tremendous and amazing. read more

Top notch customer service at this lovely sewing store. I brought my sewing machine in because it wasn't working and was immediately greeted and assisted. Jinny is very knowledgeable as she identified and fixed the problem quickly. She took the time to help me understand what had gone wrong and taught me how to fix the problem should it arise again. She even spent some time offering me a few pointers about using my machine. I plan to return to the store to browse some of the lovely fabric I noticed on display. A great place to visit! read more

I used to sew on a daily basis when my kids were at home. After years without a functional sewing machine, I was finally able to treat myself to a new one this month! I have had a couple of pfaff machines and loved them. I am an advanced seamstress, and have been able to create wonderful things through the years, from baby blankets and clothes to adult clothing, tailored items, large quilts and other items using embroidery and applique techniques - all freehand. I now have a machine that automates much of that - and I am SO excited to learn what my machine can do! I was impressed my two times in the store with the people I've met there - already! It felt like a family and I can't wait to take classes for the social aspects as well as getting me up to speed and learning from all of them. This IS as good as it gets! read more

I bought my Pfaff sewing machine from Paradise a couple of years ago. Love the machine, love love love the shop. Jinny is super helpful with any and all questions I have thrown at her and takes extra time to explain and demonstrate techniques and shortcuts. I have taken my machine there for basic servicing and Lisa is very knowledgeable and accommodating, willing to work with my schedule so that I am not without a machine for long! Ii have to say that I was a brand new at this craft and the sales people were honest and the pricing was good. The classes are available for us working women as well as the women that are not in daytime jobs. They have a class on Friday night that will help you with your sewing project and if you need one they will give you one! There is always cute embroidery samples and they have oodles of machines to pick from with financing @ no interest if you want to purchase. The biggest reason I am giving this a 5 star rating is due to the owner Jinny. I had some issues with a machine that was purchased else where. It had full maintenance contract included with my purchase, somehow the maintenance plan shown in my package that would allow any dealer store to handle repair for reimbursement, was invalid and only the the store where I purchased the machine from, was validated. I already paid for this contract, at purchased and could get now where with them, so I was feeling shorted. Jinny graciously relieved me of any payment due her, and to me, that is worth a million bucks , as she stood behind someone else's error, and helped me when I was in a jam. I have heard lots of good stories about how Jinny goes beyond the call of duty as a business owner. For this I am forever grateful. This place is fun and happy and full of laughter, and its pretty much the best place for sewing that you will find. ! Just go in yourself and check out the store! You will love it! read more

Paradise Sewing is a great store! They offer many classes for skill levels from a beginner to very experienced sewers. I recently made a major purchase from the store and have been very satisfied with the purchase, technical questions, classes, challenges I've presented to them and with the staff in general. They have a huge selection of embroidery designs,software and supplies, along with fabric, patterns and most anything you might need for your sewing needs. I like that they sell regular sewing machines, embroidery machines, sergers and longarm? (not positive on that, I'm relying on my memory...but I believe I've seen one near the front of the store) machines all in the one store. I will be a life long customer! Their classes are paced so that the beginner's can keep up, yet those more experienced, don't feel bogged down. Jinny is able to keep the classes rolling right along. They have frequent sales and and often offer discounts the day you take a class or attend an event, a big plus for me, as I must drive quite a ways to get there. Questions I had early on, after first purchasing my embroidery machine, were addressed immediately. By that, I mean that I emailed a few questions the night I bought it and although the store was already closed. Jinny was answering my questions that evening and throughout the following day while they were also closed. The staff are very knowledgeable and all have great, warm personalities, making you feel like you belong there. Always offering their expert advice whenever you are there. They will even set up appointments for you to sit down with them to go over things you are unsure of after the purchase of your machine. They definitely have customer service down pat! Go visit them, and if you are in the hunt for a sewing machine, I HIGHLY recommend them! They have great deals. read more

Super staff & service. Most *other* sewing shops seem more like used car lots, and they only care about you as a customer if they can get a large sale from you (whether you can afford it or not); they definitely don't want to service your machine if you did not buy from them. Not Paradise Sewing: there you are treated with a smile no matter how small your business. Because of how nice they are, it will be the only place I will consider spending the $$$ on a new machine. I recently bought an old Kenmore at an estates sale. This machine runs like a top but the bobbin winder was not turning. I read the reviews here on Yelp about Paradise Sewing and liked what I read. The reviews are all accurate and I wanted to add my own. I called and talked to Eddie the service guy. He told me to bring it in and he'd be happy to take a look. Eddie is truly a master techi. He helped me out and gave me valuable information on how to help keep my machine running. One of the things he suggested was to bring it back when I had the time for their $69.00 service, which is exactly what I plan to do. This is the place to take any sewing machine for repair or tune up services. i live in the mountains and every where I go is out of the way. The drive is worth it no matter where you live in San Diego county area. The store staff was very helpful as well. This place is a goldmine for anyone who sews! read more

I took my wife's sewing machine to the store for repairs on a recommendation of a family member. I had my 3 year old daughter in one arm and the sewing machine in the other. The store was filled with customers and staff and we were greeted by a smiling yet busy staff member ( I realized later that she was the owner). She told me she would be right with me and told me to put the machine down on an open table. As soon as she was free, she sat right down and started to ask questions as to why I brought it in. While trying to convey my wife's concerns, Jinny (the owner) started to notice all kinds of potential issues that could be the problems. After just a short time and some minor adjustments, I had a machine that was working great. She didn't ask for any service fees and gave me a card to give to my wife if she ever had issues in the future. She instructed me to tell my wife to call anytime she was working with the machine and it started to act up. She said she'd be happy to try and help her over the phone. After dealing with the old machine, I started to ask questions about the machines she was selling. I have been doing a lot of research recently because I wanted to get my wife a new machine that would make her sewing and quilting even more enjoyable. Jinny patiently took me to several machines of different brands, answering my questions, keeping my daughter semi occupied and reassessing what I think are my wife's needs. We finally narrowed it down to two machines that were within my price range and also had all the features that I felt would make my wife really happy! I am still going to bring my wife in for a "test drive" before we buy, but I WILL buy it from Jinny because of her wonderful customer service and knowledge. What a pleasant experience to have in a day where I feel that most companies just don't seem to understand what an impact their first contact has on the customer. Way to go Jinny!!! read more

Love this store, and the sweet ladies that work here! Wow, they are so awesome. I was in the market for a new sewing machine, and after years and years of sewing on a machine that would make me yell all the time, I knew I was ready for a upgrade! I decided to check out the sewing craft fair at del mar fairgrounds, and that's how I came across this shop. They had a awesome booth chalk full of Pfaff sewing machines! They were awesome helping me jump on a machine and let me sew in it. All three ladies were not pushy and we're just flat out kind! I knew what I wanted and they did not try to hassle me into getting something more expensive. Today I was able to pay off my machine (I put a down payment on it at the craft fair last month). I went into the store in poway and was yet again blown away. They treated me (and my three little ones) as if I were family! They gave me a rundown on the machine and truly were so happy doing so! Seriously can't wait to go back and learn from these highly experienced ladies! Oh and the store is awesome too. They had a crate of toys for my kids to play with!!!!.... And lots of pretty fabric for crafts and quilting. I was impressed by the wide selection. The prints range from traditional prints to more modern fun prints that any young mom would love! I won't take my sewing machines any place else for repair or service. They are reasonably priced, do a thorough job, go above and beyond what's needed and all with a friendly, fun attitude. Jinny is great and my machines come back running smooth as silk. read more

Took in my 5+ year old sewing machine that never could see right for me. They sat me down and went through the entire machine to troubleshoot. They checked the needle and bobbin and even gave me some pointers as to what they thought could be the issue. They ended up fixing it and didn't charge me! Then again, it seemed like the biggest issue with my machine was user error haha. I'll definitely be back to attend a beginners sewing class, which they hold every Friday from 5-9. read more

I have been with Paradise Sewing over 10 years. I have upgraded my machine several times and always received a good trade in price towards my new purchase. I have enjoyed all of my classes and participated in the Friday sit and sew where you can learn a lot from watching others work on their projects. I like if i need to pick up something for a class it is on hand in the store. read more
