Got my first tattoo here, will be going back for more. The quality of customer service and informative content is phenomenal. Thanks to Jo for taking me for a walk in. It was a beautiful first tattoo. There wasn't any anxiety for me as I was confident in Jo's ability. He had also walked me through and check in whether I had any need to stretch and/or felt uncomfortable. The shop was chill and were playing great tracks/bands. Displays of art hangs on all four walls. Do consider coming here if you are getting your first tattoo and is interested in Traditional American or other styles!

Let me start off by saying, if I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would! I didn't have an appointment, so I was hoping to be lucky enough to be seen as a walk-in client. It must've been my lucky day because not only was I able to get tattooed, but I was fortunate enough to be tattooed by Joseph, who also happens to be the owner as well as an incredibly talented tattoo artist. Out of all of the tattoos that I have, this is by far the best and most pleasant tattoo experience I have ever had. Joseph was kind, professional, and super friendly. We had great conversation and I am beyond happy with my new tattoo. I look forward to going back soon, with vegan treats to share!

The shop was super beautiful. It smelled great and they had artwork all over the place, which really made it easy to know they were going to do really good work. I recently got a black grey realism Jesus tattoo on my forearm from Stefan Johnson and he was absolutely top notch. Stefan was very responsive, extremely patient and an absolute Picasso on the design. Couldn't be happier for my first tattoo. 100% found my artist for other pieces.

Overall, I was very, very fortunate to have found this place. Jeremy Kemzey was my tattoo artist and he is such a gem, an excellent artist and a great conversationalist. Lots of cool flash on the walls and many many albums of art to sit through, but if you bring your own stencil they're also very good and thorough at the job that you would like done. Highly recommend if you want to get your tattoos done at the right place.

Was looking for a local shop while on vacation that took walk in's. Went to mid town tattoo but they are appointment only so they referred us to Paradise tattoo. We walked in, were greeted nicely and quickly got to work. The guys working there were super nice and they had nice, chill music on (helps the nerves IMO). My friend and I both got tattoos and they turned out great! So happy to have found this spot! read more

Dropped in for a walk in appt and was greeted with a smile. The process was easy and fairly quick…read more I signed documents/ waivers and the person helping me talked me through the sterilization process. Once I got into the room my piercer was friendly and very thorough. My previous piercing was not even on both sides and he took the time to show me several placements for my second hole to create the look I wanted. He walked me through some breathing exercises to preform to help decrease the pain. Before my visit I checked out the website which included the cost of the piercing ($80) for a second hole. Additionally, the website mentioned walk ins are welcome from Thursday - Sunday. My only complain about this shop was the lack of transparency on cost. Personally, I'm someone who prefers everything to be clearly listed black and white so I can review the information and make informed decisions without feeling pressured. At this shop, you need to ask about the price of each individual piece, which can be a little uncomfortable. I asked for quotes on a few jewelry options, and when I made my selection, I was told the jewelry would cost $30 but it ended up being $28 per piece, which came out to $56 for both ears. There was also a $36 charge for two titanium threadless labret posts (the backing, I believe), which I hadn't anticipated. On top of that, I was charged $10 for saline spray for aftercare, something that wasn't mentioned beforehand. In my head, I was estimating around $150 total, factoring in the $80 listed for the piercing and some variable jewelry cost. So walking out with a $211 bill was a bit of a surprise. I really wish the full breakdown, especially the add ons, was made more transparent either online or displayed clearly in the shop to avoid that kind of sticker shock. With that said, I'm very happy with my piercing and the overall experience. The staff was professional and kind, and the shop was clean and clearly run with care. I plan on coming back for future piercings and recommend it to others.

Upon my mani being started, my manicurist kept getting up to inspect other manicurists jobs they were doing for other clients and stepping to help file, shape, etc. bouncing back and forth between me.. and overseeing them. WTFFFF. My mani took about 40 minutes because of that and on top of that, I did not get a bowl of water to soak my hands in to soften my cuticles. Sooo because prep was horrible, the following day, my gel started lifting. Avoid, do not waste your money.

I was debating writing this, I haven't had this bad of nails in a very long time. I had scheduled a…read moregelx and had to reschedule, I quickly agreed to the new date and didn't realize that it rescheduled to just gel, which I take accountability for not completely reading the full message. She worked around it and called her boss (next client) to see if she could come a little later. My baby was with me due to unforeseen circumstances and it was a little awkward. The owner showed her a Barbie doll and was helpful toward that situation. My nails she messed up on didn't put the bonding glue on a nail and continued. They seemed fine till I left and noticed 2 of the nails completely crooked and when messaged about it she said she adjusted the tip for nail bed and Is out of town and to file it cause that's what she would do. My other fingers were straight, never had a problem before. It was on a Friday and by Monday a couple of the nails were falling off and broken. I don't do much with my hands so for 80$ nails and 20$ tip, to fall off within less than 3 days isn't great. I have paid way less and they lasted longer and looked better and if not they would have me come back in and take off the nail and re-do it. You select your service, any add ons, artist, day, and time. I scheduled for a Friday, but the artist later texted me to see if I could change my appointment time. I couldn't, so we scheduled for a different day, which was not a problem. There is a $5-$10 price difference between booking with a "senior" or "junior" artist for nail services. I think Prism should reconsider that policy because labeling someone a "junior" artist makes you think you are getting someone who is less experienced or won't do as good of a job and I don't think that is true at all, especially on a basic pedicure or manicure. Prism Beauty is on the corner of a busy main road (Capitola) and a residential street (El Dorado). They do not have a parking lot, so you have to find a spot on the street. When I went, there was nothing available on the residential street close to their building, but I found a spot a little further up the main road. Parking isn't a deal breaker, but definitely give yourself extra time, just in case parking is scarce. When you walk into Prism Beauty, there are manicure stations to your right, lash beds to the left, and two pedicure stations straight ahead. The pedicure stations are on a raised platform with an additional step up to the platform. There is no hand rail from the floor to step nor the step to the platform. If you have any physical disabilities or balance issues, it could be tricky. I would call ahead to see if they have an alternative if you want a pedicure and think the step up would be problematic. I am sure they would also lend a steadying hand if needed. Phoebe was setting up when I walked in. She addressed me by name and was welcoming. She told me to come up and have a seat. I asked if I should choose a color first, but she said she would bring me my options. They have a basket with all of the color options. Reds, pinks, purples, blues, etc. are bundled together, so you can easily find the color family you want and then a specific color. I chose a color, but when Phoebe went to look for it, no luck. She came back and said they have some colors only in gel and the color I chose was one of them. I picked another color, but she said she would also look for something similar. She brought two colors she chose and one was close to what I wanted. I was satisfied, but I did think it would have been easier if I just looked at the polish wall and picked one, since the samples can be misleading in terms of availability. Prism uses pedicure "kits" that come with a scrub, mask, and massage lotion. Phoebe also cleaned up the cuticle with an electric "sanding" tool and used a disposable scrubbie cube on my feet. My feet feel soft. I still have some dry skin on the sides of my outer toes, but they are much improved and look good in open-toes shoes. I paid extra for nail art. I like to get polka dots on all of my toes. My husband is always amused by my polka-dot toes. He judged these dots to be good, but not the best I have had. He pointed out that others have varied the size of the dots to cute effect. These dots are on the small side. Phoebe chatted with me a bit, but I had to initiate most of the talk. The artists working at Prism are clearly friends and the other clients who were there and came in were obviously regulars. They were all talking with one another. I was the outsider. It would have been nice if they had asked me more questions to draw me in, even simple things like if I live nearby or how I found their salon. Overall, I got a very nice pedicure at Prism. I would go back, but I would be very cautious about the days/times I booked due to traffic and parking. I have been trying to find a new nail artist because the person I went to for over ten years moved away from the area. I have tried four places. I would rank Prism #2 of the four for overall feel and outcome, but they win in terms of ease of booking.

I was in the market to get a cool traditional tattoo. I looked up a few different tattoo shops in my area and from word of mouth I found out that California electric tattoo is the best shop in town. It's located in soquel just a mile or so from Santa Cruz downtown area. California electric is a nice cozy traditional tattoo shop with some real heavy hitters. I was looking to get a cool traditional tattoo so I came into the shop and set up an appointment with Joseph James. I left a $40 deposit and told Joseph James that I wanted to get a wolf head on my hand. We set a date!2 to 3 days later I was in there and I came in to check out the design. It was way past my expectations and it look like he put a lot of time into this design. I was really excited for this tattoo and I have heard many great things about Joseph James and all the artist at California electric tattoo. I checked out Joseph's Instagram page and he has quite the following. I was surprised to meet how humble and hard-working he is in person also very friendly and approachable. I got the tattoo on my left forearm on the top. The tattoo took about 2 to 3 hours but was worth the wait and time. Joseph definitely takes his time when tattooing you and make sure it's actually perfect. He is quite the perfectionist. It took a little bit more time than I expected but Joseph had some Bactine which help numb the pain and also said he has some strong numbing stuff for clients that are hurting a bit more which really helped the process. The finishing product was amazing. I'm really happy that I came into California electric tattoo and chose Joseph James I now feel like I have a friend and he is definitely might go to tattoo guy. go check out the shop for yourself it's a little on the ferry side for tattooing at a high and shop but is definitely worth the price for a clean shop with amazing artist and good vibe. I was able to be taken in as a walk-in at Paradise Tattoo which was a miracle since most places are appointment only here in Santa Cruz. The staff at Paradise Tattoo shop are experienced, knowledgeable, and are thoughtful about clients request for tattoo work. I am grateful to have had Justin Gallagher as my tattoo artist. Justin takes pride in his work and he went above and beyond to engage with his clients. I'm very satisfied with the outcome of my tattoo and highly looking forward to return with future ideas to add on to my tattoo. Justin was patient and considerate about both my tattoo placement and the tattoo art work that I wanted even though it was very simple. I recently visited Paradise Tattoo in Santa Cruz, California, and my experience was nothing short of amazing! From the moment I walked in, I was treated with the utmost respect and kindness by the entire staff. Joey, the shop owner and Stefan my artist went above and beyond to accommodate me, especially after another shop had refused to complete my half finished tattoo. Joseph James is the best tattoo artist in Santa Cruz.His attention to detail and meticulous work ethic is extraordinary. I read all the reviews and was us down did buy that everyone that got tattooed by him had something amazing to say,he should really be proud.I had a tattoo idea that I wanted Joseph to render and I showed him a different style font Joseph love the idea and told me that he could do any style and make it exactly how I wanted and his job was to make me happy. I scheduled an appointment for Thursday afternoon and Joseph kindly worked with my schedule. I'm a minimalist and wanted something very simple but elegant classy and cute. Joseph drew up exactly how I wanted it and we worked together on the design so it was perfect. When It came to the tattoo his lines are so crisp straight and really clean I was really amazed. I recently came into California electric tattoo. I was recommended to see joseph James . I go to 24 hour fitness in Santa Cruz and I seen some really good traditional work a guy at the gym had . I asked where he got the tattoo and he said that California electric was the best shop in town and highly recommended joseph. I came in and I was blown away on how cool the shop was! It was a real tattoo shop ! Very classy place and I felt very comfortable ; I was greeted by Joseph and everyone at the shop was really nice and very informative without give me a "tattoo attitude " most shops I visited have. Everyone was amazing artist with a high knowledge of what a shop and work should have and be like. I ended up setting up an appointment with Joseph for a few days later. I got s cool traditional ship from Joseph and he honestly did such a great job ! Joseph is really chill and very friendly and talkative but professional as well! We are so lucky to have Joseph (or Joey) in this area. He's done three of my pieces, so I feel super lucky. Joey is the most hardworking artist in Santa Cruz. He will accomodate any style and puts 110% into everything he does, especially the sketching, shading, and color. Once I tell him my ideas I trust him completely to bring life to my images. His ability to juxtapose black/heavy shading with the most pigmented/bright colors is actually magical, and I get sooo many compliments on the daily. His original pieces are also really beautiful, and he'll take his time to create the perfect piece for any client, no matter how big or small. He's very detail oriented and always makes sure you're happy and comfortable. He's also very friendly, caring, and pretty dang hilarious. I'm very much looking forward to Joey completing my sleeves. If you're looking to get ink in Santa Cruz (especially traditional) you'd be a fool to go to anyone else. read more

I was referred to him by a lady at Peet's coffee who did her tattoos. I looked him up and followed him on instagram just to see if I can get some of his designs. I was impressed with his work so I brought an idea of a traditional falcon bird I have been wanting to get. Initially I had 30 minutes consultation. He was very communicated very well on the specifics of what I wanted. He was very light touch and glad he gave me a bactine to help numb pain after the outline. my tattoo took about 3 -4 hours. He took his time and I really appreciated it. It was definitely worth the time and money cause he put lot of effort into it. I am very happy with my final result. I recommend taking a look at his workk at instragram. @josephjamestattoo. I definitely will be back for more work. I doubt he needs this review but just wanted to expressly appreciation. Joseph is a uniquely gifted artist, & a great dude to boot. He responded immediately to my initial inquiry - faster than any of the others to whom I reached out - & scheduled me in right away. Upon meeting him the professionalism & genuine demeanor were apparent. He diligently sketched out my designs & stenciled them on precisely. He ensured that my input was valued from the beginning. Joseph & I developed a quick rapport. We shared sincere & entertaining stories while he executed the tattoos to perfection. Not to mention pretty damn efficiently. I went to Joseph about a month ago and he was amazing! My fiance and I have a tradition of going and getting small tattoos on our anniversaries (not matching lol). We had originally planned on going to a shop we had previously gone to several times but they did not get back in touch with us no matter how much we tried, very disappointing. We called California Electric on the day of and they made room for us no problem! Joseph was great making my fiance feel comfortable with getting his tattoo, which turned out infinitely better than the image we brought in, and he was very meticulous with mine and made sure the whole time that I was happy with what I was getting. I couldn't have been happier with my experience there and will be looking forward to many more anniversary (and otherwise) tattoos from him to come! read more

If your looking for a tattoo artist in Santa Cruz or surrounding area ; do yourself a favor and go to Joseph James at California electric tattoo. The shop is one of the best in town and Joseph worked with my budget and gave me a quality tattoo. Don't waste your time going around town trying to find the best deal and getting less quality work. My main concern was that I went into the best shop with the best quality and I'm so lucky I found Joseph. He's so sweet and he's an amazing artist! He really pays attention to detail and takes his time . My tattoo came out great! I got a small traditional tattoo from him and I plan on getting some lettering and black and grey work as well! So I went into California electric tattoo and wanted to see about getting my first tattoo with pony boy (Joseph james). My two friends both have amazing work from him and I was very excited to get my first tattoo. Joseph was really sweet and very understanding and knowledgeable about my tattoo ideas and he drew out an amazing design. I put down a $40 deposit which went toward the tattoo and got him started on the sketch the week before! When I came in the day of my appointment; I was amazed on what he drew up! I found Joseph James Tattoo on yelp while we were in Santa Cruz California. I was looking to get a small walking tattoo on Saturday evening. We came in around 8 o'clock and all the tattooers were busy but he said he will take us in about 10 minutes. I met with Joseph and explained my idea and he assured me he's good with fine lines and very clean. Also he assured me that they only use vegan non-toxic ink. He drew up my mothers name for Mother's Day Tattoo. The drawling was a perfect combination of his twist on the photo I showed him from my iPhone. This was my first tattoo and Joseph is shirred me that it wouldn't hurt that much and he has a gentle hand. The tattoo took about 15 minutes and it didn't even hurt at all I was very excited and happy with the outcome and I will definitely be back. read more

I met Joseph James last year as a walk in and immediately he understood what I was trying to do and got down to business. I had a general idea as to what I wanted done and his drawing far surpassed my initial ideas. He works quick and efficiently without any of the posturing that is at times so commonplace in the field of tattooing. Now after my second tattoo from him is finished I again find myself overwhelmingly impressed with his level of artistic integrity and professionalism. I was visiting from Texas and came to Santa Cruz beach. I came into California electric tattoo to see Joseph James. My friend Jesse got a really cool traditional eagle from him on his arm and it came out amazing. So I came into the shop and wanted to get a scorpion tattoo on my leg. I set up an appointment with Joseph for Friday. He did such an amazing job and really blew me away with how clean his line work is and great shading. The shop is very cleanly and an awesome vibe. What a pleasant experience. We followed Joseph James from San Jose now to Santa Cruz. We have seen Joseph's work on a lot of mutual work friends and I love his tattoo style. . He is extremely fun and laid back and professional. I ve gotten 5 tattoos from Joseph and the most recent one has been a traditional partner on my leg. Joseph never disappoints. I came in to Paradise tattoo for a traditional walk in tattoo and I got tattooed by keeli. Keeli blew my mind he did an amazing traditional tattoo on my hand and I couldn't believe that I was able to get in such an amazing job at such a short notice. I've been to a lot of tattoo shops in Santa Cruz and by far this is the cleanest biggest best shot I've ever been to! The customer service is amazing and I've never even been to a tattoo shop that had a front desk person to book appointments and made the process very easy. Let me start by saying Joey has so much talent. He really has a passion for what he does and he definitely knows what he's doing. Getting tattooed by Joey is more than just a tattoo session.. He really strives to make you feel as comfortable as possible and he sure can keep up a conversation! He is very flexible with his clients and is always busting out amazing pieces! I've been tattooed 5 times by Joey and I've never had any complaints whatsoever. It feels more like catching up with a friend than an awkward tattoo session! Joseph James tattoo is one of the best in town. If your just visiting Santa Cruz California or if you're a resident he made time for us and really nailed the idea that I had and made me feel comfortable while getting tattooed such a great guy and a gentle hand. If you're looking to get your first tattoo or you're a tattoo collector I would highly recommend going to Joseph James at two. The experience was very pleasant and I got a small butterfly tattoo traditional style . Joseph James has done 3 tattoos for me and each time has been super professional, dedicated, and passionate about his work. He personally collaborated with me for one and came up with the design and the drawing itself. He took the time and effort to work with what I liked, what I didn't, and what would look best for the drawing and when it came time to tattoo it, it looked killer and exactly what I was looking for. I was in search for a new tattoo artist in San Jose Santa Cruz area. I came across Joseph on yelp. I read all the reviews and they seemed very genuine and his work was awesome. I just wanted a simple little walk in tattoo and I didn't know if he accept walk ins or does small pieces. He told me he sure does ; he said he loves to do all types of works and he loves to do walk ins ! Great news for me. Joseph is a really awesome artist and his line work on my tattoo is really clean.
