I was debating writing this, I haven't had this bad of nails in a very long time. I had scheduled a gelx and had to reschedule, I quickly agreed to the new date and didn't realize that it rescheduled to just gel, which I take accountability for not completely reading the full message. She worked around it and called her boss (next client) to see if she could come a little later. My baby was with me due to unforeseen circumstances and it was a little awkward. The owner showed her a Barbie doll and was helpful toward that situation. My nails she messed up on didn't put the bonding glue on a nail and continued. They seemed fine till I left and noticed 2 of the nails completely crooked and when messaged about it she said she adjusted the tip for nail bed and Is out of town and to file it cause that's what she would do. My other fingers were straight, never had a problem before. It was on a Friday and by Monday a couple of the nails were falling off and broken. I don't do much with my hands so for 80$ nails and 20$ tip, to fall off within less than 3 days isn't great. I have paid way less and they lasted longer and looked better and if not they would have me come back in and take off the nail and re-do it. I booked an appointment with Phoebe at Prism Beauty for a pedicure. It is very easy to book an appointment through Prism's website. You select your service, any add ons, artist, day, and time. I scheduled for a Friday, but the artist later texted me to see if I could change my appointment time. I couldn't, so we scheduled for a different day, which was not a problem. There is a $5-$10 price difference between booking with a "senior" or "junior" artist for nail services. I think Prism should reconsider that policy because labeling someone a "junior" artist makes you think you are getting someone who is less experienced or won't do as good of a job and I don't think that is true at all, especially on a basic pedicure or manicure. Prism Beauty is on the corner of a busy main road (Capitola) and a residential street (El Dorado). They do not have a parking lot, so you have to find a spot on the street. When I went, there was nothing available on the residential street close to their building, but I found a spot a little further up the main road. Parking isn't a deal breaker, but definitely give yourself extra time, just in case parking is scarce. When you walk into Prism Beauty, there are manicure stations to your right, lash beds to the left, and two pedicure stations straight ahead. The pedicure stations are on a raised platform with an additional step up to the platform. There is no hand rail from the floor to step nor the step to the platform. If you have any physical disabilities or balance issues, it could be tricky. I would call ahead to see if they have an alternative if you want a pedicure and think the step up would be problematic. I am sure they would also lend a steadying hand if needed. Phoebe was setting up when I walked in. She addressed me by name and was welcoming. She told me to come up and have a seat. I asked if I should choose a color first, but she said she would bring me my options. They have a basket with all of the color options. Reds, pinks, purples, blues, etc. are bundled together, so you can easily find the color family you want and then a specific color. I chose a color, but when Phoebe went to look for it, no luck. She came back and said they have some colors only in gel and the color I chose was one of them. I picked another color, but she said she would also look for something similar. She brought two colors she chose and one was close to what I wanted. I was satisfied, but I did think it would have been easier if I just looked at the polish wall and picked one, since the samples can be misleading in terms of availability. Prism uses pedicure "kits" that come with a scrub, mask, and massage lotion. Phoebe also cleaned up the cuticle with an electric "sanding" tool and used a disposable scrubbie cube on my feet. My feet feel soft. I still have some dry skin on the sides of my outer toes, but they are much improved and look good in open-toes shoes. I paid extra for nail art. I like to get polka dots on all of my toes. My husband is always amused by my polka-dot toes. He judged these dots to be good, but not the best I have had. He pointed out that others have varied the size of the dots to cute effect. These dots are on the small side. Phoebe chatted with me a bit, but I had to initiate most of the talk. The artists working at Prism are clearly friends and the other clients who were there and came in were obviously regulars. They were all talking with one another. I was the outsider. It would have been nice if they had asked me more questions to draw me in, even simple things like if I live nearby or how I found their salon. Overall, I got a very nice pedicure at Prism. I would go back, but I would be very cautious about the days/times I booked due to traffic and parking. I have been trying to find a new nail artist because the person I went to for over ten years moved away from the area. I have tried four places. I would rank Prism #2 of the four for overall feel and outcome, but they win in terms of ease of booking. read more

I had a wonderful first experience at Prism Beauty this past weekend. I had a pedicure with Yesenia, which I scheduled ahead of time through their website. The location was easy to find and there's a lot of parking in the lot. The space is bright and beautiful! I love the cute pink couch, pedicure massage chairs, and plants. I was greeted immediately and offered coffee, water, or a sparkling water, while the pedicure space was being prepared for me. My pedicure with Yesenia was amazing! I felt so relaxed in the heated massage chair, and loved the scrub that she applied to my feet and legs. There were so many polish colors to pick from! I loved having so many options. It's a little bit pricier than what I'm used to, but I think the whole experience they provide you with makes it's absolutely worth it. My toes look great, and I really enjoyed the foot and leg massage I got once my toes were painted. I won't be going anywhere else from now on for my pedicures. I was sure to buy some gift cards for my friends on my way out. This place is too good to not share! read more

This is a review for a lash lift and permanent jewelry. Let's start with the positive. The permanent jewelry portion of my appointment was flawless, the technician (I do not remember her name) was warm and kind, this was overall a great experience. She also did my lash lift and again, she was warm and inviting. The lash lift, however, was a much quicker than expected experience but I went with it because I had never had a lash lift before. I was given absolutely zero instructions for after care and was not asked about contact lenses, etc. Which, again, I didn't really know much better because it was my first time. I decided to try a different place after numerous people told me that they couldn't even tell that I had had a lash lift and had mentioned their negative experiences getting them done here. I was in the chair for an hour at this new place. At prism? 30 minutes. And it showed - my lash lift from prism lasted 12 hours at best. I'm getting the feeling that Prism is better known for it's nail techs, facials, etc. But if you want a lash lift? I'd say go elsewhere. read more

This is a review for a gel pedicure I got at Prism. First off, the address of this spa is on El Dorado, but the entrance is on Capitola in a big tan building. The reason I mention this is that it is hard to find the first time, as you can't see the logo on the front door when it is propped open. The salon is cute and clean with modern furniture. There was quiet pop music playing. As for the pedicure: BIG WARNING up front. This was my first gel pedicure at Prism, yet it wasn't until I was already in the chair that I was told there is an EXTRA $25 FEE if you come in with gel polish already on your toes. The explanation was that 'it wasn't their work, and so they charged extra to remove it'. Huh? You'd *think* they might mention this somewhere on their website or when you book the appointment, since someone booking a gel pedicure just *might* like gel pedicures and have gotten one before. I was about to leave with no pedicure when I was told the fee could be waved just this once. So I stayed. The pedicure was pleasant. A lot of time and attention were paid to my nails and cuticles, and they look nice. There were great colors to choose from, and there was a nice massage at the end. All this was good. What was missing was more than a 10 second attempt to remove dead skin from my feet. For $60 I was expecting more in this department, and would have happily skipped the hot towels to get it. Also I got the silent treatment from my manicurist, who was wearing an "Assholes Live Forever" T-shirt and made zero eye contact. It was awkward. All in all I'm not sure if I'll go back. I found the surprise $25 charge and the taciturn manicurist to be less than welcoming. read more

Girl! Get your phone out and schedule an appointment with Nhi (sounds like knee), like now! She is the ONLY manicurist that can get a gel mani to stay on my fingers and looking fresh for OVER 3 WEEKS! I'm rough on my little fingers too, but that gel mani just won't quit! I've come in at least half dozen times now and each design just blows my mind. From simple glitter fades to 3D gel designs, her "handiwork" is nothing short of fantastic. Her approach to a mani is without water, so no soaking or excessive washing. She also doesn't beat up your cuticles with a trimmer or buzz down your natural nail with a file. She's incredibly sweet, kind, friendly and will straight up tell you if your cuticles are ratchet. As I've stated in past reviews, I previously worked at a salon/spa so I know what to look for in terms of quality. Nhi is probably the best in the business. I've been seeing her for about three years, primarily for manicures and almost exclusively for gel polish. My addiction for the long-lasting (think 3 weeks, easy) UV set manicures started long before I started going to GlamHer and I've had quite an assortment of quality. Nhi's manicures are meticulous, the consistency of the application is never too thick and always gets a good color density, from glitter to greys to yellows to french. For you design-junkies out there, Nhi is constantly researching and playing with new designs and products, always excited to try something new! She lets me know when she's testing a new product and remembers on my next visit to follow up. As far as my own nails go, I have never been more happy with my manicures and I'm stoked on them every. single. time. Since I've been going to GlamHer my nails are long, strong and always fun; I constantly get asked if they are my real nails (they are!) because Nhi found the perfect shape for my hands. In the event I have a chip or crack, we are always able to reinforce or reshape the nail to work for the next manicure. Nhi has even fit me in when I broke three nails in a single day and made sure I left looking flawless. I started going to GlamHer because of the (more than) reasonable prices, I continue going because my nails always look amazing when I walk out the door, usually they look pretty decent when I walk in for my next visit too. Whats most important to me is how Nhi prides herself on cleanliness and being sanitary every step of the way, something ingrained in her from when she worked with her folks at Felton Nails. I've been going to these girls for about two years now because they are THE BEST IN TOWN. It really doesnt get better. My nails are a straight work or art and my lashes are flawless thanks to these babes. Sometimes it can be hard to get appointments so I suggest NOT waiting until the last minute to book an appointment. If you are worried about the price this salon isnt for you but keep in mind you get what you pay for. The quality, time and effort they put into everything they do really shows.
