Venados turned out to be an excellent place to fix my food deprivation. Both salsas that accompanied the chips were very full flavored and delicious. The chips were fine taste wise, but there were more broken pieces than in tact chips. No biggie but a little odd. We had queso and it was more than adequate. I ate a lot from my small plate, sans chips, with my fork. Sort of when you know a queso is good. My entree was old school crispy tacos with shredded chicken and traditional fixings. No complaints! We all had margaritas. Yum. Very good and way better than they had to be for the price! My takeaway: if you're on the west end of the Island and need to eat, go here. The salsa is a medium spice level, and was very delicious. But the lime cilantro dip knocked it out out of the park! I loved it! For our meals, I got the taquitos and they were delicious. My boyfriend loved his tacos! We were stuffed when we were done, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. They have lots of parking, and a large outdoor deck area if you want to sit outside.

Dan's beer was tasty and swillable and my martini was appropriately dirty. We got the hot sauce because you can never have enough condiments and cats were referenced in its name. I found myself happily gobbling it down after a few initially hesitant bites. The rice krispy was fine, and I'm looking forward to warming the cookie and reporting back. We also ordered two egg and cheese croissants. The egg is fried which I wasn't expecting but it actually tasted pretty good with the melted cheese. If you're looking for a coffee shop that offers a full menu of food such as burrito's, sandwiches, empanadas, and pancakes, you'll enjoy it here. There's plenty of seating to bring your laptop and get some work done. It's a popular spot so keep that in mind as the tables may all be taken.

I also tried a ham and cheese kolache and LOVED THAT!! It is weird to me how I had to microwave it myself. Like is it that hard for you to do it behind the counter. I liked the decor of the place, very cozy. The service was not the best. The guy who took my order wasn't very friendly. But when I picked up my coffee he did say thank you (bare minimum though.) But, other than that I say get either the coconut latte, or the salted caramel latte, because that's one of my favorites as well. read more

Super cute spot! I'm always in the hunt for local coffee shops when traveling and this place was right across from the beach house we rented. I ended up visiting several times and my drinks were delicious each time! I'm only bummed I didn't try and of the yummy looking pastries! Everyone the helped us was very nice. My only meh moment was when the employees were talking badly about another patron who had left a bad review. As a small business owner myself, I totally understand the frustration but probably wait to discuss this when there are not customers around. read more

I really enjoyed it, but if I returned for a second visit, I would order something else only because there were like ten other things I wanted to try. By the way, I also enjoyed stealing a few bites of my wife's ham, egg and cheese bagel. Earlier I said "if I returned for a second visit", and I'd like to correct the record. We will 100% be returning for a second visit. We might even go as far as a visit here being an excuse for why we need to come back to Galveston a few months from now.

The aroma of freshly baked bagels meet you as soon as you walk through the door and is so inviting. We ordered the Pesto in Paradise (one of their summer specialty bagels), the Chopped Brisket Panini, and a Blueberry Bagel with Cream Cheese. Every single item was amazing! They were filled with meat, eggs, fresh vegetables, and flavorful condiments. The bagels were hot, soft, and incredibly fresh, with every bite tasting better than the last. My only regret is not ordering another breakfast bagel to take on the road. The shop offers a few indoor seats along with outdoor seating, which is a nice option if the weather is good. On the day we visited it was raining and gloomy and the patio was still full. The only downside to our visit was the rude male employee at the front counter. Thankfully, the female cashier who helped us was sweet, welcoming, and friendly, which helped make the overall experience a great one. I would absolutely recommend Galveston Bagel Company again and again. This property is a remodeled motel that has been transformed into a really charming boutique hotel. They did an incredible job with the design and atmosphere. It feels trendy, relaxed, and unlike anywhere else in Galveston in my opinion. We arrived Friday night and had an amazing dinner at The Fancy. On Saturday, we spent the entire day at the pool enjoying drinks and appetizers, and on Sunday morning we grabbed breakfast tacos at the bar before heading back to Houston. From the moment we arrived, we received such a warm welcome from the staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Any questions we had or small issues that came up were answered and resolved right away which made the whole experience feel effortless! The service throughout our stay was great and the food and drinks were just as good. One thing we couldn't stop talking about was how comfortable the pillows were. We slept amazinggggg! We were in bed pretty early each night but we were woken up both nights by noise from neighboring rooms. It sounded like people coming in late and moving around. You can definitely hear doors opening and closing, cabinets shutting, and general hallway noise, etc. It wasn't a huge deal for me since I can usually fall back asleep easily but it's something worth mentioning for lighter sleepers. We stayed in a double queen balcony room which was spotless and had plenty of space for both of us. The balcony itself was a little awkward because it overlooks the pool area and since its a small hotel it felt like you were practically hanging out with everyone at the pool when you stepped outside. Next time I probably wouldn't pay extra for the balcony. The pool was clean, the atmosphere was great, and they played fun music all day. The only downside was drink service. Most of the time we had to go inside to order drinks ourselves. Someone did come take our order poolside once but it wasn't consistent. There was live music on the rooftop both Friday and Saturday night which was such a nice touch, especially around sunset. Parking was a little tricky because the hotel was busy when we arrived for the live music but we got lucky with a spot close by. The guy who checked us in let me know he would go out there and help me find a spot if I was not able to find one so although we didnt end up needing him, it was cool of him to offer. Overall, this hotel is so hip, cute, and unique. It honestly feels like you're not even in Texas. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and stylish place to stay in Galveston.

There were parts of the experience of staying here that were so absurdly bad that I'm tempted to…read moregive one star, but they are fixable so I will give three in the hopes that the owners go about resolving the issues. Positives first: 1. Great location, right across from the beach 2. Aesthetic lobby, gorgeous decor 3. Charming pool, well maintained 4. Helpful staff, very kind 5. Complimentary beach club chairs and umbrellas - really a dynamic differentiator! 6. AMAZING rooftop bar with ocean view and incredible live music - truly the savior of stars for this review.... Now onto the negatives: 1. The entire lobby smells very strongly of dog pee. To the point where I walked in and went "woof! is there a dog in here?". Sure enough, there is an adorable old man doggy (that perhaps belongs to the owner?) that resides in the lobby. Really a fun idea IF he is let out to urinate!! Unfortunately there was yellow dog pee stains under the stairs, and the scent was unmistakable. Immediately turned me off on first impression. 2. A number of the provided bath towels were threadbare and stained. Again, an easy to solve issue, so baffling that towels that are thin and fraying at the edges and streaked are still in the laundry rotation. 3. SMOKE ALARM BATTERY WENT OFF AT 4AM. Luckily front desk staff was extremely responsive and resolved the issue in ten minutes. I asked why the hotel didn't change batteries a month before expiration date like most hotels do to avoid the battery dying in the middle of a guests stay, and was informed it must not be something the new owners were aware of. 4. The A.C. units can not keep up with the Texas heat / coastal humidity. The room temp, per the unit, did not go below 80*F all weekend despite being set to 70. To be fair, it felt more like 76*F, but that's still fairly warm to sleep in my opinion! Asked staff about it, and was told "yeah, we always have AC issues, the new units can't keep up..." so something they're aware of. 5. Parking lot is not enforced. That means anyone can use the Lucine parking lot for beach access, and actual hotel guests are simply out of luck for parking. It may say "towing enforced" but excited beachgoers and front desk alike informed us they don't actually check it. It was a bit obnoxious circling forever to find parking when the hotel allegedly provides it. But not the end of the world! Again, the above items would warrant a one star review if the pool, rooftop bar, complimentary beach club chairs and umbrella, and kind staff weren't in consideration. I think these issues are FIXABLE!! And encourage owners to hop to it. But at present, the overall experience gives the vibe of a new owner with restaurant/bar experience who has taken on a vanity project with no idea how to actually run a hotel re: guest experience.
