First - about the rating. If we only had their pizza and salad, this would be a 5. We had been…read morehiking all day, and didn't feel like cooking at the campground, so we stopped in for an early dinner last Saturday. As it was early, there was only one other table in the restaurant. Any time it's a small Mom & Pop Italian place, we always get at least a slice or a small pizza to compare. Now the sign outside is obviously old (touting steaks, prime rib, strips etc.) so we figured they know their steaks. When I saw Steak Marsala on the menu, I was intrigued. Hubby, ordered the rib eye. We also ordered side salads. Let's start with the good - the salads were fresh with sliced red onion, cucumbers, grape tomatoes and again nothing to write home about, but fresh. The dressings were obviously not homemade. Now the small (10") pizza with extra cheese was phenomenal!!!! There was a ton of cheese, and yet the crust not soggy. It was perfect! Goldilocks would choose THIS pizza sauce - not too sweet, not to acidic. Just right. A note again about this wonderful crust - I almost never eat the outside crust on a pizza - this one I just had to. The not so good - the steaks. Very thin, cheap cuts of ribeye. Yes, I know rib eye has that kernel of fat, but this was almost 70% fat. The Marsala sauce was bland. It could have used more basic seasoning and some more Marsala wine - if they even make their own. My entree was inedible. Hubby eats his steak rare, and there was no way they could make this super thin cut rare, so of course it was over. Here's the thing. He is a steak lover and a purist. He loves steak for the taste of beef alone and never, ever has sauce or anything on it. He asked for A-1. That should tell you something. And interestingly, the A-1 came in a small plastic salad dressing container. Not a bottle. Weird. Do they only have one tub of it in the kitchen? Come on Mimmo's, you can do better. I get that food costs are astronomical in this economy, but your customers deserve better. Take the steak off the menu, if that is what you are going to serve. With so few restaurant choices in this area, you could be amazing with some tweaks. The place started filling up, so the locals do go here. You could be the most popular place in town, if you tried a bit. We actually wanted to go back tonight for that amazing pizza (but they are closed on Monday). There are enough good things (did I mention the pizza?) that we will be back when in town again.

Lovely decorations and definitely has a 50s feel to it. I got the bacon jalapeno burger omelette, fries and 2 slices of toast are included. The omelette was delicious and chock full of toppings, my only possible complaint would be that the cheese coverage didn't reach the far end. However, that can probably be specified beforehand and its not enough to knock of a star. Regardless of this, I loved it. The bacon and burger were full of flavor and the grilled jalapenos had just the right amount of spice. The grilled onions on top were a great touch. When you're done with your omelette and there's leftover toppings on the plate, you can use fries to sort of scoop them up (awesome). The service was also great. The waitress was talking to regulars, and even asked us what we were up to today. Food came out pretty quick and she asked us if we wanted refills the moment our cups were low. Overall, nice little place. Forgot to get a picture of the food because I was so focused on eating. If I ever come back through the area between the operating hours of 8 and 2 I will certainly be going here. If I happened to pass through after they closed I would probably break in for the pie. This is a must-visit for diner enthusiasts. The building sits on the north-south main thoroughfare…read morethrough historic downtown Farmville, an area once lined with tobacco warehouses. It is very small, with about fifteen stools wrapping around a classic service counter. According to the menu, the diner is a "One-Master Model 15-Stool Valentine steel building," made by Valentine Manufacturing Company of Wichita, Kansas, in 1955. They have a small parking lot in back of the diner. I parked there and then saw a bathroom entrance sign -- after a 2 1/2-hour trip, nature was calling. It is a very clean bathroom located at the rear of the building, with a separate entrance from the parking lot. There is no access to the restroom from inside the diner -- a unique and nostalgic feature you don't see much anymore. I walked around to the front of the building, entered, sat down on a stool, and was greeted with, "Y'all having a good day so far?" I had a half sweet/half unsweet tea and the Cheeseburger Deluxe with no mayonnaise. It came with lettuce, tomato, pickle chips, onions, French fries, and cole slaw. I put ketchup on the fries, but the fresh tomato alone provided plenty of flavor for the juicy, delicious burger. The French fries were crispy and delicious -- exactly what you hope for at a classic diner. The cole slaw was outstanding and clearly tasted homemade. The pies looked incredible, and because the cheeseburger platter was so good, I had a piece of blueberry buttermilk cake topped with whipped cream -- wow! There is also a clearly posted 3% surcharge if paying with a credit card. Prices are reasonable, so it didn't feel like an issue. This was a great overall experience, and I would recommend this classic, nostalgic mid-20th-century diner to anyone traveling through Farmville. It closes at 2 pm, so plan accordingly!

It's three restaurants under one roof! The buttery yellow exterior is warm and inviting, with gardens, arches, outdoor lights, lovely courtyard, and even a surrounding white picket fence! In this tiny town of Lunenburg, it was quite a surprise to find this countryside tea room/café/tavern! What a perfect location for weddings, and other events! We came for tea! The tea service is at 2:30 and the hosts kindly accommodated us calling a day ahead, as reservations are required. We were tickled pink when we entered the foyer painted a bright magenta with shelves of teacups and wide-brimmed fancy hats along the walls. Our table was in a cottage-styled room with English chintz floral tablecloths, robin egg blue walls, a cozy fireplace guarded by a hot pink lion statue keeping watch over his domain we dubbed him Pepper), and weathered wooden fences provided the backs for the benches, so shabby chic! We loved the bird motif throughout this cozy room! The mantle was strewn with various bird figurines, amidst bird houses & nests displayed at various spots around the room. Our places were set with beautiful rose patterned china, as Paul, our host offered us tea! He then brought the multi-tiered plate server that held the most delectable small bites I'd ever had at a tea room! Paul was extremely amiable and spot on as he described the offerings. He informed us that the chef, his wife Kathy, made everything from scratch! There was a scrumptious ham, cheese and green pepper quiche, an amazing spinach/feta pastry, and a creative Reuben pinwheel with homemade sauerkraut! Then of course, the classic cucumber finger sandwiches! We were blown away by the savories! The sweet potato & cinnamon scones were fluffy, dense and perfectly sweetened, served with a cinnamon vanilla whipped cream... delicious! For the dessert course, we we served pumpkin spice mini cakes & homemade chocolate truffles. Wow! We were completely satisfied with the food and the service was impeccable! A delightful conversation ensued with Paul and Kathy as we learned how they met and decided to open this establishment! Paul is also a shoemaker, and serves the local community cobbler services in a small shop behind the main farmhouse! After our meal, we wandered to the second tearoom which was painted a golden yellow with heavy wooden furniture exhibiting loads of china, coffee/tea urns, teapots, and collectibles. The focal point is the bright white fireplace, decorated for the season! Note the gorgeous Indian quilt wall hanging, quite a story there! This room is definitely more of an classic English style. Through the archway you enter the café, a much more casual atmosphere with a few tables donning oilcloth tablecloths, checkered floors, and a hutches and shelves filled with various teas, coffees, and gifts. Here the locals gather for sandwiches, salads, and a few menu specials! Also, along with homemade cakes and pies for dessert, they serve Richlands Ice Cream! The next room is the cozy British tavern with a couple high-top tables and seating at the small bar. I could definitely see my hubby and I here grabbing a pint, some pub fare and listening to live music. A blue leather chair, Guinness signs, suits of armor and deer heads add to the rustic, warmth of this quaint tavern. Nothing short of a power couple, Paul and Kathy have a flair for making their customers into their friends! I certainly hope they thrive and survive during this pandemic because it's obvious they are serving the community and surroundings towns with the best in culinary pleasures!

This past time I got a 'subasta' mainly because of the extra appetizing menu picture which depicted what looked like a heaping portion of spaghetti meat sauce with cooked spaghetti noodles mixed in. The idea was very intriguing and the picture was so enticing. Plus when I ordered it, I asked for a cup of extra sauce just in case I got skimped. So my table gets their food and my subasta was a whole different story than what I'd been shown on the menu. There was a sub roll, sure, and there were heaping scoops of spaghetti noodles, definitely, but somehow things just didn't translate with a menu item that was clearly advertised incorrectly. On each sub half there were these meat discs that, texture-wise, resembled meatballs and they had a little smearing of plain canned marinara sauce on one side of them. There was a little bit of melted cheese on the opposite side of these meat discs, but they existed on these piles of plain spaghetti noodles jammed between the sub rolls. As soon as I viewed this plate, I was disappointed. I didn't send the order back because I'm too nice in most cases, but I really should have. I also wasn't given the cup of extra sauce that I very specifically asked for. The onion rings were SO GOOD and I found myself wishing I had a huge plate of just onion rings because I was hungry. I ate the sub and pulled off a LOT of the naked spaghetti noodles because there was no flavor or point to them. If I go back, I'm getting pasta (Alfredo to be more specific) or a basic small pizza. I'm not playing around with this place anymore.
