I stopped by Parisian Bakery after visiting the newly opened Enson Supermarket in the same shopping center. I'd heard of this bakery before because several bánh mì shops in Houston's Little Saigon source their French baguettes from here, so I was curious to check it out. The shop is fairly small and a bit dim inside. Right by the entrance is a large bin of freshly baked French baguettes for just $0.70 each, and the menu offers several bánh mì sandwiches, most priced around $5-6, along with fruit smoothies. Unfortunately, the bakery selection was a huge letdown. Given the name Parisian Bakery, I expected to find French pastries like croissants, pain au chocolat, or almond and pistachio croissants, but there were none. Nada! I was also surprised there weren't any Vietnamese desserts. Aside from the baguettes and bánh mì, the selection felt quite limited and didn't match what I expected from a bakery. I ended up leaving without ordering anything. If you're simply looking for fresh baguettes for bánh mì, this may be worth a stop. I stopped by on a Tuesday around 12:30 pm. I was expecting to find a selection of packaged pastries or traditional Vietnamese desserts, but there weren't any available. There was only one employee working behind the counter and she spoke very limited English. The menu in the wall featured several bánh mì options, which appeared to be $5 each if the posted prices were accurate. They also sold fresh baguettes for 70¢ each. The biggest thing that stood out to me was the atmosphere. The shop appeared clean, but the interior was very dimly lit and felt quite dated. Personally, I think a pastry shop feels more inviting when it's brighter and more vibrant. While there was nothing wrong with the cleanliness, the dark, older-looking interior didn't leave the most welcoming first impression. read more

Just a major no for me. Not sure what about the bakery is "Parisian". They had no croissants, not one. Of all the options from butter to almond to chocolate croissants, none in stock. First red flag. Coffee, looked like something setup in the back of a gas station on Route 66. It was coffee, just couldn't tell what type. Folgers? Decaf? Bold roast? Who knows, just drink it - $1.50 was steep for this dark, mystery substance. I beelined to the smoothies. At least a fruit smoothie should make this trip worth my while. I got the soursop smoothie - $4.25. The color was white, milky, but soupsop is thick white milky in appearance. I left after spending $6.75 in that place, not sure how it added up to that. Later, first sip of my soursop smoothie and all I could taste was MILK. Blehhh lactose intolerant defense kicked in. I called the bakery, "does the smoothie have milk?" She added matter-of-factly "all smoothies have milk..." DUH! Well, that's a first for me. All the soursop I have eaten in my life, to embark on my first soursop smoothie experience and be let down like this. Why did I think I would be getting a fresh blend of soursop? Why didn't they point out dairy inclusion? What did I expect? Service, I can't blame the lady, it's a small Vietnam sand-which shop in a strip center. She's doing the best she can with what she has. She was quiet and observant without much to add. This is not a bakery. It's not Parisian. There is no coffee. I will never come back here again. Not to be confused with the Parisian Fakery, which is a surgical office located in the French Capital, which I'm sure Barbie and I will be interested in. This is the wonderful little Vietnamese bakery, a key part of Vietnamese Town, and it doesn't get frequented as often as others perhaps, because it's right by the Westpark Tollway. It's next door to the gas station we frequent, so we stopped in here for a sandwich on a couple of occasions, and they are excellent! read more

I was impressed to learn this week that this place has been around for 10+ years. And no wonder! The bread once toasted is heavenly flaky, and that in turn turns into one amazing bbq pork banh mi. So good! Not a fan of their croissants, but I do love their banana Q. Not sure how a Filipino recipe (toron) made it into a Vietnamese bakery, but no complaints. Think flaky dough egg roll with plantains inside with syrupy sweetness and just the right amount of oil to zap it all. Amazing. $10 for two sandwiches and two banana egg rolls? Also amazing. I've been coming here for almost 12 years. They make fresh french bread in-house and it's made daily. For $1.00 you can get 5 small rolls or 3 big ones. It's the same french bread you eat with your banh mi (vietnamese sandwich). If you like vietnamese sandwiches, they have a deal where you can buy 5 and you get one free. Make sure though when you're taking the sandwiches to go, ask them to put the veggies on the side. There are four other things that I love from this eatery: pate Chaud, almond croissants, vanilla cream puffs & fresh sugar cane juice. A much, much, much smaller location compared to the one on Bellaire (Yes, I emphasized on "small" because it's THAT much smaller) and they don't sell as many pastries, or desserts as the other location. However, I frequent this location for mainly for the purpose of getting the BBQ pork banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich). Just as the BBQ pork banh mi at the Bellaire location is awesome, his location offers the same awesomeness but at a slightly higher price ($3.50 vs $3.00). Why? I'm not so sure, but since this place is a lot closer to me, I'm willing to pay that extra $0.50 for the convenience and the time saving. I also get their egg rolls which is also being sold at a slightly higher price ($0.75 vs. $0.50). But I think the higher price tag is justified because the size of the egg roll is bigger than the other location. The sugar cane juice = so good. You should try it if you've never had sugar cane juice. If you like sweet stuff, you'll love it! read more

Being a native Haitian I know all too well about sugar canes. I grew up on those bad boys. I have fond memories of my dad carefully peeling off the bark and cutting up the sugar canes in child friendly bite size pieces. Sooooo when I heard that this place serve fresh sugar cane juice, my mouth instantly watered. I ordered a small just in case I wouldn't be a fan...and boy were my instincts correct! Initially it tasted salty, as if they didn't cut off the bark of the sugar cane and juiced the cane WITH the bark. I love this place! It is not only affordable but the stuff here is mm...mmm...delicious! It is places like this that makes me wonder why people even eat at fast food joints. This is a bakery that supplies most of the french bread to other stores. You know those super hard bread that you can actually knock someone out with if you use it as a bat, lol. And when they break apart they leave a mess of crumb, hehe. They are 6 for a Dollar, here! They have fresh food here because of so many customers that this place draws. You can actually eat a meal here. They have drinks, canned and home made drinks. I love their freshly squeezed Cane Juice. And they have a lot of deserts! They have Vietnamese sandwiches (Banh Mi) of chicken, pork, or beef. They are all delicious and made fresh! Tried the oven baked BBQ beef or the pork pate with their combo meats. They have Spring Rolls here! Yes Shrimp SPRING ROLLS, 3 for $3.50 that comes with a spicy peanut sauce! They are made fresh daily and usually sells out by 3 PM so you have to be quick. They also sell Vietnamese ham here or whatever they are called that are marinated white pork meat wrapped in banana leaf and foil. OMG I can't name all their items but they are all good. Wow! Not bad at all! Stopped by here for a chicken banh mi, because I was already next door at the MaMa Food Market. Wasn't really expecting much, but, my lack of enthusiasm was soon abated as the lady started piling on the fixin's! I'm talkin' a mountain of meat and veggies! I was like, "Dang! Go on lady!" The banh mi itself was actually very enjoyable, although the baguette was a tad under-toasted, so it was a bit mealy and soft...which is fine, because I wasn't in no mood for scraped gums, know what I mean? But, perhaps a bit more time in the oven would've earned it the final star. They also had an assortment of other baked goods and cold meats. Great banh mi. Love the bbq pork with extra vegetables and usually pick something else up with it and a drink for under $5. The Pate Chaud is good, croissants are really good and day olds are 2/ $1.50 but the star is what looks like a large egg roll but is deep fried banana goodness that tastes like a bananas foster and is truly addictive. You gotta grab them while they are hot as they don't work if they aren't. I don't know how this compares to the other banh mi places in town but it is my regular stop and is well worth checking out if you are in westchase and need baked goods or a sandwich. read more

I came in here on a Sunday morning, not yet having consumed breakfast. I figured I'd grab a banh mi to munch on during my hike. As hungry as I was, this was the worst banh mi experience I've ever had in my entire life. Why? - Terrible bread. The hardest, stalest shell ever. - The veggies didn't taste very fresh, and they either forgot or ran out of cilantro. - Skimpish on the Pate - geez, it's not like there's an industry shortage! - I had the combo - the meat inside wasn't very flavorful, despite the fact that they compensated with Maggi sauce. - Bad service after receiving my sandwich. Basically they verbally misquoted pricing on beverages, and I had witness nearby. When it was time to pay, I expected that a decent interaction would be an apology. I had their banh mi this week, and it tasted like sh*t. The crust was realy hard, which was a surprise because they have an oven in the back and bake everything fresh. I would not recommend getting their banh mi because it will disappoint you. The meat tasted old and nasty. My favorite part of eating banh is usually the pickled carrot (sweet, tangy and crunchy), but their pickled carrot is very sour (result of being in the vinegar too long = old). However, their banh bao is really good. Also, they make fresh waffle (green with flavor) that is good, but somewhat overpriced.
