I've been visiting a patient for the past three weeks and I was recommended to visit the Park Avenue Cafe opposed to the regular cafeteria, which is gross, and Panera, which is expensive and basic, downstairs. I would say that Park Avenue Cafe by far the best food here in the hospital. The first thing that I've noticed is that the prices are extremely reasonable. Secondly, the line could potentially be long but fast. It gets a little crowded in there but the service is quick so that time will pass quickly. To comment on another review, I agree that one of the cashiers (not the younger female) can be a bit rude. She was rude to me on my first day but I overlook it for many reasons. LOL! In defense to the cashier and regarding another review on this site, there is a sign that says that the utensils are for paying customers only. Not sure why someone would get mad that they were told to purchase something in order to get a spoon. Reading is fundamental. Also, best practices isn't to just "give" away utensils to non paying customers. I would like to give credit to the cooks. They are pretty nice and cordial. Most of the items that I have had have been extremely fresh and tasty. My favorite is the hot dog special that I turn into a combo. The potato wedges are "okay" but not something that I would say is a "go to" item. They taste like microwave food. I would rather have the chips. When I'm in there is seems like a lot of folks order a Gyro or the Philly Steak. The tuna salad SUCKS and gives me bad flashbacks. haha I've haven't had anything from their salad bar because honestly, it looks displeasing and messy. I would have tried their seafood salad but I figured it would make my stomach hurt (if you know what I'm sayin'.) It looked like way too much mayo was used. The seafood salad also looked big and chunky which I'm sure some folks like. Yes, there is seating outside of the café but I wouldn't say its "A LOT" of seating. Seats are usually temporarily filled. The cashier's that work there, are unfortunately rude and nasty. Customer service is absolutely horrible!!! I witness the cashier lady speaking rudely to a customers. This lady came to grab a spoon from the counter, the Owner I believe who is also the cashier, rudely replied to her that the spoon was for customers only, the customer felt embarrassed and proceeded to BUY A $3 cookie to have the Spoon..... This is a great option for breakfast, lunch or even dinner if at Inova Fairfax. Service here seemed good and quick during my visit and the restaurant is well stocked of both food and condiments for your sandwich. Soup and a salad bar are also available, and there are even small portions of wedge fries for sale. Employees get a discount (with their badge). There is seating just outside of the cafe. read more

The Park Avenue Cafe is located in Fairfax Hospital. It's a decent place to to grab breakfast or a sandwich, coffee, bottled water, cold beverages, snacks, and whatnot. I snuck in here for a bit for a Bacon, egg, and cheese on a Croissant and a bottle of water. Breakfast sandwich was hot, plenty of bacon. Needed a bit more cheese though. There is a ton of seating just outside the Cafe. Found myself at Fairfax hospital yet again. This time for my girlfriend. While she was getting a battery of tests, I had to get something to eat. I ordered the Rueben sammich, a small bowl of cantaloupe and red grapes and a strawberry/banana Naked juice. The bill came to $15.61. The Naked juice was refreshing and the grapes were great but the Reuben was, in a word, awful. It wasn't really warm enough, the meat had a weird taste to it and cheese choice wasn't working at all. And then I remembered were I was... a hospital I actually took it back inside and they let me me order a turkey club. Much better. I changed my rating from 3 to 4 because sandwich 2 was delicious. read more

I recently had lunch there and I enjoyed the Greek Salad and the Spicy noodle salad. I can honesty say they were very good and I'm not into salads. I do not live in the immediate area. So I went home and was telling my husband about it and he said why don't you ask to purchase their dressing. So I called and asked if I could purchase the dressing. The owner came on the phone and got an attitude like it was the stupidest question she ever heard. Her reasoning for not selling the dressing to me was that she didn't have a container to put it in I could brought er a container. The way she acted you would have thought I asked for the recipe. I felt so stupid after talking to her. think it's a compliment that someone would want to purchase the dressing. Idk people these days are so weird. read more

I come here once every two weeks, at least! My favorite thing to get is the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Bagel breakfast sandwich in the morning, and the Philly Cheese Steak sub for lunch, it's much better than the one they serve in the hospital (Skylight Cafe). Lamb Gyro is pretty good too. Of course it's not the best food you will ever eat in your life, but you can pretty much order anything off of the menu and it'll be good. The coffee is alright (totally drinkable, just that the cafeteria coffee is better), and I don't care for the potato wedges they always serve under the heat lamp because I'm my opinion, they're cut way too thick so they're not pleasant to eat. They get busy for morning and lunch rush but even so they are very fast. The people are always friendly and recognize me every time. read more

It's just cafeteria food. Overpriced for what it is. People like their spicy noodles and ham and cheese if you have to eat there.

Unfortunately, I have spent a considerable amount of time at the Hospital in the past month and a half and have been eating at all of the in house and local area fooderies. What can you say for this place - It's a sandwich shop in the INOVA Fairfax Hospital that offers and alternative to the cafeteria in the basement. In addition to sandwiches, you can get breakfast items in the morning (to include breakfast sandwiches) and there is a cold buffet at lunch with a "soup of the day" offered. Sandwiches are ok but not great as is the buffet line-up. A few minuses that I have noted... the guy who generally is there making sandwiches is pretty surly. I don't think I have ever seen him smile and he tends to seem like he feels he is doing you a favor by making you lunch. Sandwich prep is meh. They microwave the ruben meat to melt the cheese and warm the filling but put the sliced bread in the sandwich press to give it "grill marks" rather than properly doing the sandwich in the press. Cold sandwiches fair a bit better and there is a broad selection of cookies, chips, and drinks. Chicken Gyro is not a gyro but rather a sliced chicken breast with cucumbers and cucumber sauce. This would be like calling a steak-um a steak because you put steak sauce on it. Also, I asked for feta cheese and was told they "didn't have it" by said surly order prep guy - even though they had a giant tray of "Greek Salad" on the cold bar covered with Feta cheese... Fried potato wedges are made too far in advance and left out for too long to become soggy under the heat lamps. A plus, the breakfast sandwiches are pretty good. However, this is one thing that is pretty hard to screw up. So, if you are at the hospital, don't want to leave to get take-out or order from a restaurant in the area, this place serves as a mediocre alternative to the cafeteria (which actually has a fair selection of offerings). read more

Very disappointed. The food here seems to be generally all microwaved, doesn't seem to be the cleanest, and the staff is the farthest thing from friendly. When they say breakfast closes at 10:30, they actually mean that they're breaking down at 10:00 and all that's available is skimpy leftovers. Not worth returning to--might as well go to the regular hospital cafeteria or drive off site. read more

Spicy sesame noodle salad was very good. Customer service is mediocre. But it is a better alternative to the hospital cafeteria. Fresh salads everyday. And sandwiches made to order. 3 stars read more
