Closing Time 3:00 - current time 3:10 Dollied a product across the street for a customer, note on door said "Back in 10 min". 3:10 Storming Norman returns. One other customer waiting, he lets us both in. First customer takes 5 mins. (3:15) I take 45 minutes of his time "OFF THE CLOCK". Yes, OFF THE CLOCK!!! He's helping me FREE! Not only is he helping get the correct part ( which 9 other big box retailers didn't have or had a clue as to what I needed with no part number or serial number) Storming Norman had a brain AND the knowledge to know out of 35,000 parts ( think of an IKEA Store with everything crammed into 5,000 Sq Ft of space) which part I needed, but also how to reverse the direction of motor so it would suck instead of blow. Only at 4:12 to he inform me that he was supposed to be at a dinner party at 4:30 AND he lives a 30 mins away from the store. So Storming Norman STILL had to close up the store, drive home and more then likely spend another 30 minutes getting purdy for the party! So that means he was at least 5:25 AND then whatever travel time to get to the party! The worse part of it, is he was gonna tell his wife he was gonna be late! I told him "tell her it's all my fault". I will be making my FIRST STOP next time at Ankeny Hardware for ALL MY HARDWARE NEEDS from now on & I live 10 miles, 40 mins of my time round trip to get the right part at the right price the FIRST time is well worth it! I thought we found a great place to find parts locally instead of ordering online. I asked if they…read morehad replacement parts for my AC unit. They said yes but had to order it in the next day. After we purchased the part and left we realized it was not the direct replacement but a universal part. When we got home and tried to use the part to replace our broken one it would not function after 8 hours of trouble shooting we decided to order an actual direct replacement online for a 5th of the cost of the one they sold us. We wanted to make sure it was not the part before we tried to return it (maybe something else was malfunctioning). When the new part finally arrived 2 weeks later. It took 5 minute to install and the ac works fantastic. So it was the universal part that was not working. I called to see if we could get even a partial refund. When I called the person working was incredibly rude. They kept speaking over me when I was simply asking about the possibility of a refund. They will not take refunds without the receipt which is fair. I know they also had a copy but he said they only use those to look up warranty info. I think in 2026 that is an ancient business practice, but again their choice. I was calm and kind on the phone and was not treated well at all. Even if I can find the receipt, they do not accept returns after 14 days even though the part did not work. So sad to say we will not take any of our business back there due to the lack of customer service and part that did not function.

It's a cool multi-level store with antique and vintage style fixings for door restoration projects, chandeliers, clawbaths and other bathroom fixtures, door handles, locks and such. They have a huge personal collection of hippos and eccentric items woven throughout the store. My screen door came back banged up and missing a chunk of wood; the screens almost immediately came out; the trim wood is falling off; the stain is splotchy, uneven, and missing in spots. They also busted the door lock but I went to Hippo and they fixed that.
