I had the worst customer service from Lacey I have ever received in my life. I was treated like a second class citizen and an inconvenience. She was rude to me beyond my wildest imagination. She lied about the encounter to another manager and tried to have me removed from the store after I called her out on her terrible service. I sent an email to the store manager about my experience and he ignored me. I have shopped at Parkrose Hardware for many years. The company I own is on open account with Parkrose Hardware and the manager of their store, Rodney Anderson is completely aware of the treatment I received and is doing nothing about it. I have waited for more than 2 weeks for any response and sent several emails. Still nothing. Shame on you Parkrose Hardware and Rodney Anderson. But please don't forget about Lacey, she was the cause of all of this and so far is still working there. read more

Staff not wearing their masks around their noses. Two of the three cashiers had their masks worn this way. When I indicated that I wouldn't approach one of them, he became surely and didn't correct his mask. The store manager was unapologetic. I took back to Parkrose Hardware where the manager was rude and told me it was my fault and I needed to take it somewhere else. There aren't too many old timey hardware stores around anymore. That's a shame. I used to love to go with my grandpa who called everyone "Chief" and would B.S. about the random valve or part he needed to fix whatever. There's something great about genuine customer service. You can't go looking for it, it just pops out of nowhere. Parkrose has it, and I love it. There's a certain joy in being able to "shop talk" with a couple of old guys for a while. Sure it looks like a cross between an ACE and any other big box home store, but here the people actually know what they're selling, and you leave with the right part and some advice the first time. And if they don't have it, they can tell you what random little shop in the central eastside will, its hours and directions to get there. AMAZING. Parkrose transitioned from a True Value store around 2010, and the suggestive name did imply getting good service with reasonable cost. Now the Ace transition is complete and while a few of the exceptional employees made it through the transition (plumbing and fasteners), the new hires all seem to lack the gusto, the experience, and the know how to make this location shine above all choices in the city. Even in the tool time rentals the change has been rough. Confusion over what bits go with which 'hammer, overcharges for returned untouched bits (never a problem with the other staff) and bickering among each other while they both ended up being misinformed really put a grey cloud over many past positive experiences with them. Well as for as the rest of the effect; the stock remains unchanged except for a few more seasonals, and to look on the bright side- popcorn machine is never empty now; draw your own conclusions from that! read more

I doubt you know who you are as you don't seem terribly self aware...but here's some advice I have for you.... When I (or anyone) tries to explain what I need, please don't look at me like I'm speaking another language!!! Also, please don't blow me off by sending me away with the wrong parts, time after time, only for me to find out when my handyman shows up, on the clock, and I have to pay for your mistakes!! Went back and once again it was just a sad experience. If I could give a fraction of a star I would. So I went there to pick up a small assortment of things, some of which they had, however most they didn't but that's not the problem. The problem was there need to sell stupid made in china crap in piles next to the entrance to the where you then need to wait in line. All a place like Parkrose really has going for it is knowledgeable staff and good products. They have gotten rid of a lot of smart folks and replace them with stupid teenagers, and they are starting to sell really cheap crap, some of which is in line with Harbor Freight. read more

Part of the True Value chain, it is independently and locally owned. These folks have everything you need (including spot-on advice) to re-muddle your bungalow. Unlike my experiences at the Big Box home improvement stores, the folks at Parkrose have never talked down to me and always provide good advice and great customer service. I love hardware stores; not to be confused with home improvement stores. A good hardware store carries every diameter, pitch, and type of screw you can imagine - and in every conceivable material. They sell bar stock, tube stock, sheet metal, and angle iron. They sell hardware to repair lamps, doors, window, and faucets. They sell wire, cables, ropes, chain, bearings, trunnions, pillow blocks, winches, keys and lock, etc. A really good hardware store - and I've only seen one - carries hardware that matches the time that the surrounding neighborhood was built. You walk in with a broken thing you just pulled out of the attic of your 1912 bungalow and ask: "got one of these?", and the guy says, aisle five; on the left. Parkrose is pretty close to the perfect hardware store. I had a bicycle headlight that came off the bike because a little Chinese machine screw broke. Now this screw was stainless steel, with a very small fine metric thread, had a shoulder like a lag screw and a head that was designed to slip into a counterbore. Parkrose had one of those. Being committed to supporting local businesses, I was excited to learn that Parkrose Hardware was so close to my new purchased home. However, the first trip was a bust; no one offered to help me though I wandered around looking lost and for an associate to assist, and when I went to the cash registers, they were equally dismissive. Trips Two through Four (I really wanted to give them a chance!) were pretty much the same, but with some bonus surliness from the high schoolers they have working checkout. My final trip in, I was determined to have a good experience; I still had to hunt down someone to help me, but I found someone and while he couldn't answer any of my questions, he did point me toward the aisle I needed. When I went to check out, I smiled really big (in case the problem was me the whole time) and said, "Hi!" to the young woman working there. She just stared at me, so I repeated myself, at which point she reached for the item I had in my hand to purchase. She then proceeded to flirt with the young man working the next aisle over. I said "Thanks," as I was leaving, and she said, "Yeah." I'm officially done giving Parkrose Hardware chances. I don't want to shop at Big Box stores, but I absolutely refuse to give my money to people who treat their customers so badly. They've lost me as a customer, and I hope they continue to lose people to the point where they're forced to do something radical, like making their customers feel welcomed and wanted. read more

I grew up just blocks away from Parkrose Hardware's original smaller location (now torn-down). Even as a kid, they treated me well, and showed genuine interest in my projects. My first visit to Parkrose Hardware was almost 30 years ago. Parkrose Hardware continues to be my goto location for screws, bolts, nuts, washers, and all kinds of plumbing and electrical parts. They've expanded a bit these days, but the staff continue to greet me with a smile - some of which I've seen around for longer than they probably realize. Their prices remain fair, their inventory continues to expand, and their non-pushy and helpful attitudes keep me coming back. This used to be a good hardware store with interesting stock staffed with men who were helpful and knowledgeable. It also used to be a part of Ace Hardware. Now it is no longer part of Ace Hardware, the stock is fairly mundane, and the helpful, knowledgeable men have been replaced with young people with poor attitudes and no knowledge. I just had TWO horrible customer service experiences there today in the space of about 20 minutes, and I am never going back. I used to love shopping at Parkrose Hardware, but the Parkrose Hardware I loved doesn't exist anymore :( I noticed that this store has primarily 4 to 5 star reviews before their acquisition by CNRG (thank you, Ethan S., for your enlightening post) and primarily 1 star reviews after the acquisition. It appears Parkrose Hardware is a shell of its former self, coasting along on its previous reputation, which won't last much longer if many more people have experiences like mine. If you want to go to a real Ace Hardware, Beaumont Hardware on NE 43rd and Fremont isn't very far away. If you want to go to a chain, the people at Orchard Supply on NE 40th & Halsey are extremely friendly and OSH's customer service is superb. But avoid this place with know-nothing people working the floor and unhelpful, grumpy cashiers. read more

Today was the third strike. Parkrose Hardware has always been "The" place. About 2-3 months ago the hot water cartridge in my Moen faucet went bad and I'd bought one from them for something around $13.00. The cartridge I'd purchased from them got very difficult to turn after a couple of weeks. I took it in and spoke to, I'd say a manager because he was wearing a gray shirt, at the back counter. First up, he offered me the phone number for Moen. I couldn't turn the water off because it had become so stiff that it stripped the tang that holds it in place. I figured he might get me another one because it had to be a malfunctioning part. Instead he suggested that was my faucet? There's nothing wrong with the faucet! Someone with any experience should know that. I left and purchase the same brand at Home Depot. That brand is just garbage as that one was bad too. Finally I had to get one from Moen. Second strike was going in a couple/three weeks later to get a pop-up sprinkler head. When they didn't have one that was a 10" pop-up I was talking to a gal employee who had nothing for me, and seemed completely disinterested in my problem, and after a short convo said "Good by now", and walked away. Third strike, today I needed cord for the recoil starter on my mower. Only one guy in the rope, fasteners, etc section. I found what I needed and asked if they'd trust me to get my own. NOPE. He called for someone in "Rope" to assist me. I stood around for roughly 5 mins waiting by the rope. No one cme, guy in the department never checked if I was being helped. I left, empty handed, once again. Park Rose Hardware has a great selection, of everything, but their service seems to have gone away. We pay more at PRH than we do at Home Depot because of the extra service and knowledgeable staff. At this point I don't consider their store to be the first place I'll go anymore, if I can get what I need somewhere else. I'm not from California. I live in Portland oregon read more

Generally, I have a warm, fuzzy "5-star" feeling about Parkrose Hardware. It's locally owned, and has a nice selection for a small store. There's plenty of parking (yay!), and most everyone you talk to will be friendly. Parkrose is the closest thing I've found in Portland to the 1980's Ohio hardware store of my childhood, where every question could be answered, and no problem was too big to fix. We've had our run-ins with the resident curmudgeon (mentioned in at least one other review), but he gave us excellent advice about securing a pergola to a concrete patio. I am happy to endure a curmudgeonly moment to get a pergola that does not blow down in windstorms. One thing I don't recommend doing at Parkrose, however, is getting plexiglass cut to size. When we asked an older male employee where the glass-cutting department was, he made a crack about the abilities of the young women who were currently staffing that section. We thought he was kidding... but when we got home, we discovered that he was not. The edges of the plexiglass were ragged and jagged and just basically a danger to anyone who dared to sit at the table. Compare that to my parents' later experience at TAP Plastics (also on Sandy), where they got a much thicker and beautifully-edged piece of plexiglass for about the same amount. So, we won't get plexiglass cut there again, but that's fine--most people only need a limited amount of plexiglass in their lives anyway. Instead, we will head there, as we've always done to find odd house parts, to find otherwise unavailable cleaning and gardening supplies, and just to soak in the fun of being in a non-big-box hardware store. read more

A little hit or miss. I have been going here once or twice a year for a decade. I like the physical layout of the store and they have a lot there. The rental department is a little hit or miss in terms of customer service. One guy there is simply in the wrong business. He hasn't been difficult enough to drive me away completely yet but there is an undercurrent of attitude. Others are very helpful. The service is inconsistent though, and I have one buddy who will never go back to Parkrose after renting equipment, after returning it and then a year later being told they couldn't rent again because the equipment returned over a year ago didn't have a full gas tank. Um... why not pick up the phone? I have not personally experienced that but I have gotten attitude for no reason a few times... mostly from the same person. Another time I went there for sink parts. The person in the aisle asked if I needed help and then told me to replace the washer but not the stem. The stem cartridge cost all of $7. I ended up needing to replace that, so I ended up driving around a lot for no reason. I'll put that down to an honest mistake. So I'll still got to PR but I have my eye on this place. I like to support a regional business but I don't get any attitude at Lowes or Home Depot. Anymore attitude in the rental department and I'm gone for good. read more

Even when I can get a somewhat informative answer, usually don't have what I need. Also - top dollar. 5 trips only one solution found - forget it - A Boy or Home Depot gets results. read more

I like this place. They are large local hardware store. They're much bigger than an Ace or Corner hardware store with everything most of the large box stores have minus major lumber and construction materials. Tried on a coat and was confronted by a rude employee that customers are not allowed to try stuff on and if you buy any clothing it is all nonrefundable. Put my mask below my chin for at most 45 secs to breathe and was literally yelled at by the same guy from acrothe store to put my mask and kiss d you no one was around me other then my son. No one for 15 each each direction. Was followed and watched for the rest of my shopping trip. As we were leaving the employee was standing at the door at that time and rolled his eyes at us as we left. Horrible place with awful rude employees and will NEVER be returning. read more

We enjoy Parkrose hardware for many of the hard to find type of items. We went in over the weekend ( April 25th), and although they were open for business with the Covid scare, their restrooms were not. We were directed to drive down the road to a gas station. It's sad that when people are still supporting their business during hard times, they are not fully supporting people. What, does even 10% of your customer base use the restroom? I personally like going to Parkrose. Staff is always helpful, it's always easy to find things - so yeah, great store layout & if you can't find something, someone is always readily available to ask. We've been frequenting them for over 3 years now. We've found a lot of specific items there that HD does not carry and a lot of fun items too. Most importantly we hit Parkrose paint dept - we've done so so much that we've gotten to know Lisa who runs the paint dept. She's very knowledgeable, friendly and ALWAYS helpful. Even on the busiest of days (the weekend) she never loses her cool, she juggles multiple customers at one time and does so with grace. Overall no complaints. Well, I wish the neighborhood was a little better. There's always some sketch people straggling around this area/ parking lot. But I always feel safe inside the store so that's good. ALSO, their hanging baskets in the spring/summer are HUGE and priced better than anywhere else (HD & Portland Nursery). Massive healthy basket is $21.98. Great value. One of them is still blooming 8 months later as we head into winter. Pretty impressive. read more

This review is for the Rental Desk only. These guys were a great help on an odd structure that I had to addess the roof of. It was an old radio tower site's equipment building, which had a high 2nd story to keep critical equipment above the 100 year flood level. I needed a tall ladder for a short period and had no secure place to store it. Branden, the delivery driver, was very helpful. PRHW was flexible on their delivery and pickup services given the circumstances of having no secure place to store the ladder on site. I will definitely use them again for future equipment rentals in NE Portland. read more

I rely on Parkrose Harware when, fairly often, I need a stable and really-tall ladder. A Little Giant MXZ Model 17 (https://www.littlegiantladder.com/skyscraper/) is what I need, can't find anywhere else, and must not own. These cost more than $600, and are so hard to store. The daily rental cost is $40, and that is fair. Know that one brings the ladder upright at shortest setting, and tilts upward leg by leg, upon the ladder; the reverse to take it down. I don't often right a review but I feel that when credit is due it should be given. I just want to share my experience with everyone. Upon arrival, I went to the information desk and asked for help to select a yard blower, a friendly young gentleman said he would get someone over to that section right away. Within a few minutes Will appeared, he was so friendly and helpful, answered all my questions and then some. After choosing the right yard blower he even took me outside and demonstrated how it worked, how to best maintain it and so on. I can't explain how appreciative I am of that kind of service. Was in here today 3/10....... Me and my family drove over here from Beaverton.It wasn't a terribly long trip but I wanted to go here for a specific reason. That reason was to look at a STIHL Chainsaw. My local dealer in Beaverton is not opened on Sundays. I am extremely unhappy with the service I received and I also feel disrespected. I tracked down an associate for help on the chainsaws and she got another associate to assist me (I assume he was the department manager). I inquired about pricing and informed him my local dealer was running a special that included the battery and charger on this particular model (the MS160) I believe. The pricing I was quoted by my local dealer was 299.00 for the bundle battery and charger. He responded in a very arrogant and rude tone "we don't offer that price, if other dealers wanna sell like that and lose money and profits that's there choice!" And that was about it he seemed highly disinterested in helping me at all it was like I was inconveniencing him. Parkrose just lost my business and recommendations. I'm a customer and you just don't treat people like that. Bad day or not this dude really sucked. I would highly recommend going elsewhere for business and if you don't want to be disrespected by this ignorant individual. What a epic waste of time! read more

Why do they act like providing help is an interruption in their day? I went there to ask about shimming a fence post. The first employee I approached wouldn't even look me in the eye as he continued with his much more important job of stocking screws ... as he passed me back to 'Fabrication'. When I eventually found this area, the employee there acted as if I were bothering him. He took the sample part I had, rustled thru some pieces of sheet metal, then drug me across the store to the 'scrap', which incidentally was about 10 feet from where I asked the 1st employee for help. While there, he got a phone call, passed me off to a third employee, who directed me back to the 'scrap', ON MY OWN. So, I go back there, and there is NO ONE to assist. Disgusted, I left the piece of sheet metal I was intending to purchase and have fabricated ... and went to HOME DEPOT. I was greet there at the door, and someone personally handled my little sheet metal fab project. I WILL NEVER ENTER THE DOORS OF PARKROSE HARDWARE AGAIN. read more
