Came here to get some fried chicken. Parks Fried Chicken has been around since 1978 when it was located in the former Lexington Market before being renovated. It is now right across the street from it. The ambiance is what you would expect from a quick service meal establishment: fast and efficient. I ordered the 6 piece whole chicken wings with western fries. My order was ready in no time and the service from the ladies was spectacular! They also have "party" wings and sell chicken pieces separately (we used to get a chicken breast back in the day with gizzards...).They also sell meals with western fries, and also with western fries and a drink for an additional cost. They have a catering menu where you can purchase chicken in bulk and they also have other menu items such as subs and sandwiches. One note of caution: it is tricky finding parking on the street (paid) near them; you may have to park a few blocks and walk, or in one of the parking garages nearby and walk. My order was hot, fresh, not greasy, and the chicken had a decent amount of seasoning as not to overwhelm it. The western fries were good, but had not coating or additional seasoning on them. Every once in a while my wife and I get the urge for fried chicken. Both of us have fond memories of childhood when fried chicken was a staple, on the home menu every week. Having tried some of the chains, we were often disappointed. After reading fantastic reviews about Parks Fried Chicken we finally decided to give it a try. Before I get to the food, let me paint a picture of the business. First, parking is a problem. It's almost impossible to find a parking space open on Paca anywhere close to their business site. I technically parked illegally but with a small car did not extend past the curb and the cross street. There is parking in a garage across from Lexington Market about a block of two further up, but I took my chance and had no problems. I walked about half a block down to Parks and the first thing I saw was a very long line of people stretching from their business out into the street. So I got in line and was surprised that the line moved very quickly. When I got to the counter to order I can see why the line moved quickly. They expect you to give your order quickly. Since it was my first visit I looked at the menu board behind the order taker and did my best to make a selection, ordering four thighs and two legs, and an order of fries. When you pay they give you a receipt that has a number on it, printed in bold. You take your receipt and go down the counter to where, when they call your number, they put it in boxes and a bag and away you go. But when your order shows up, they leave the boxes open so you can douse some available sauces (one mild and little sweet, the other very hot), then they close the boxes and pack it up for you to take. I liked the milder sauce. In retrospect I would have put more of it on the chicken. Now to my rating on the fried chicken. It's good, but not as good as most of the reviews say. The reason is the breading/crust. It's very thick and VERY crispy, to the point that biting it off with your teeth is a bit of a challenge. The chicken inside the crust is good, but the very thick crust was kind of a turn off for us. The other thing is with the size of the pieces we realized we'd over ordered. We could have halved our order and that would have been a good meal size. Given the inconvenience of going there and finding a place to park and the crowd waiting to order, it's unlikely we'll come back. Having said that, I don't want to take away from the rave reviews of other customers. It's good chicken. Just didn't hit our sweet spot. read more

The African American folks who run this joint know what they're doing and give their customers exactly what they are looking for: delicious, golden, crispy, fried chicken. In fact, they sell every part of the chicken fried. I just went with some drumsticks since I wasn't feeling too adventurous that day to get some gizzards or liver or something. They serve your meal in some foil with some sliced bread and they'll ask if you want ketchup or hot sauce on the chicken (you should 100% get both). I brought five drumsticks and an order of chicken livers for my family to taste test. We were impressed with the taste and texture of the foods. Drumsticks were seasoned perfectly and not too greasy. Walking through the Lexington Market, I passed by so many different booths before stopping at Super Fried Chicken. I was buying lunch for a picnic with my guy and he loves fried chicken. I was stopped when I saw a Chicken Breast and Potatoes special for $5. What a deal. The chicken looked great, a nice big one with a spicy hot sauce added to it. Park's Fried Chicken had a lot of customers, so we decided to give it a whirl. The chicken is relatively cheap and the pieces are quite large. I got the leg quarter with fries and it was pretty filling. The batter is not really seasoned, so definitely take them up on their offer to eat put salt/pepper, or seasoned salt on your chicken. I'd recommend getting the hot sauce as well....While the chicken wasn't nasty, I've definitely had a lot better. The chicken meat itself was very soft. And not in a good way. It basically falls apart like rotisserie chicken would, which is totally unexpected. This could have been a fluke. But it also didn't have much flavor in the meat itself in addition to the batter. You really do need the seasoned salt and hot sauce to make it taste good. While I wouldn't say avoid this place, there are definitely other food choices at Lexington Market. Get chicken and a biscuit, some mac-n-cheese on the side, and grab a Coke from the deli stall. The place to go in Lexington Market to get your fried chicken, fries, and my favorite first choice fried chicken livers. Can't beat the prices for the amount of food that you get. I eat these goodies with ketchup, hot sauce or both combined. The breast was kinda dry and did lack salt, but everyone can't indulge in salt due to health reasons. Which parks chicken to eat at?!? Just in case you didn't know, there are 2 Park's chicken stands in the market... My intuition guided me to the one with the crowd on front of it... We got a small order of gizzards (which were not all that small by the way) and a pair of drumsticks. I found it amusing that they ask if you want hot sauce for your chicken and then put it on for you. I understand that we are in the ghetto but man do you think someone is really going to run off with your bottle of hot sauce? I suppose that it is plausible especially since it's in Lexington Market.. The drumsticks were nice and juicy. the skin had a nice fiery (thanks to the hot sauce) crunch to it. It was decent but nothing to wow over. It's a bit of an upgrade from supermarket and fast food chain chicken. The gizzards were a little cold but still had a nice crunchy batter and the mat was a little chewy. I don't think they brined the gizzards before they were fried. They were delicious nontheless... The price point/ food ratio was good. The gizzards were a great deal for just under $3 we got a small Styrofoam box loaded to the brim. For a small gizzard order and a few chicken pieces set us back about $10. Th food was good but not good enough to consider braving the market again. read more

SX always asks if we can eat at Lexington Market for lunch when he stops by my workplace. He just loves fried chicken just a wee bit too much.
