This place is a cornerstone of Scarsdale. This establishment has been here since I was a kid. This family owned establishment has excellent service and great omelettes. The pictures of the kids on the wall are now full grown and work here. I recommend the Avocado Omelette with egg whites. This place makes some of the best omelettes I have ever had!!! Service was awesome--attentive and proactive. Booths were smallish and if your a large person (which I am not) then you might be a little uncomfortable. The booths and the ambience was 1960s to 1960s feel. Lighting was fine and no music (hooray) but place was echoic nonetheless. Food was average to good. Omelette had plentiful ingredients and was nice sized. The muons and mushrooms seemed fresh and were dutifully cooked prior to placing in omelette. Thank you. The pesto salad was large and the large bread adornments with toasted Parmesan and pesto were soggy but tasted great. I went here and the food was good, a little pricey, and service was good. The problem is that they are making really distasteful and disturbing political statements in the restaurant. They had displayed prominently a "Trump 2020" dollar bill indicating that they are supporters of the lie conspiracy theories that Trump won the 2020 election. I arrived very early for a business meeting in the area. With over an hour to spare breakfast sounded like a good decision. Yelp suggested Parkway Coffee Cafe, so I'm in. Yelps directions brought me to a residential neighborhood, but I persisted and drove about a mile further and found it. I corrected the location for future Yelping so we'll see what happens. Next, metered street parking only. This is Scarsdale so feed the meter. They don't fool around here. OK enough of this. Let's get to the food ... first this cafe is very small, just a handful of booths and counter service. I choose the counter for the sake of time. I ordered scrambled eggs with ham. I like my eggs scrambled loose. Sitting at the counter I got to watch the cook do his thing. My eggs: perfectly cooked. Ham, several slices and cooked nicely. No potatoes and I passed on the toast. I have to mention that when I walked in I was greeted immediately and my waitress was right there to take no order. I'm not one who likes to wait so right now I'm happy. So sounds perfect right? So why 4 Stars and not 5. OK, as I started with, parking can be a hassle. Lastly, I used the restroom before I left. Only one bathroom and to say small is an understatement. More like tiny. Standing your back is pushed tightly against the door and if you sit. Your knees will be forced against the door. Also, sink is outside the bathroom. A little unusual. Sweet Potato. The only thing that caught my attention when I read about Parkway in 'Westchester Magazine' and enough for me to visit. And since my daughter was visiting for the weekend, down we went. Nice stone exterior- but with an odd, outside seating arrangement feet away from their entrance and right on the curb. Retro, shimmer booths, black cushioned-metal bar stools, even with several unusual, poster-size, framed baby photos above their flat top grill and counter. We waited no more than 5 minutes for a booth. One of the young guys was nice to bring us our menus and service after that- from our waitress, was extremely patchy. To note, their AC unit right above seating is exposed- just looked real off to me and felt it was blowing dust- didn't look cute. My daughter's vegetarian meal of fruit, sautéed veggies and hash browns, were good (you just can't mess those up). My 'Sweet Potato' pancakes- that I've been dreaming about, tasted nothing like it. Instead, they reminded me of a pumpkin pie- (that I'm not fond of- at all) with too much allspice. Though I will admit, they were moist and fluffy. My 2-Over Easy Eggs were doable. My Vanilla Egg Cream was nice and gets two thumbs up on that one. Again, there was intermittent slowness- from the time we began eating to getting our check. After taking a morning stroll in Scarsdale, we decided to eat at the Parkway Coffee Shop. We noticed that they had a 2 star average, so we actually knew what we were getting into beforehand, but we were too lazy and hungry to search out another spot, so Parkway it was. First and foremost, the food. They offer typical diner fare here, meaning lots of eggs, sandwiches, and salads. You'd think these kinds of dishes would be a slam dunk at a corner diner, but, no, everything was a total misfire. We got an omelette with mushrooms and tomatoes, a Reuben, fries, and 2 coffees, and, to be kind, it was nothing special. Flavorless eggs (saved by the really good hot sauce they had), and a soggy sandwich with overcooked fries. Also, big loss of points for the coffee, which was a monstrosity - basically the equivalent of drinking liquified soot with a dash of misery. Aside from the food, we agreed that pretty much everything else at this place was a calamity, like the service, which was very subpar. While pleasant, the servers were pretty lax and forgetful about some basics. For example, we never got the water we originally asked for, and after being served we had to wait quite a while for silverware and napkins. Shouldn't that be the first thing we get? It also took forever to get our food, easily 20 minutes. As for cleanliness, this place needs to get some sort of hygienic plan going, because it looked neglected, dirty, and sad. The outdoor table we sat at was incredibly dirty and sticky from previous customers, so much so that 4 out of 5 times that my arm hit the table, I recoiled in horror and grabbed one of my kids wet wipes to get the mystery goo off (Is it ketchup? Is it cream? Is it soda? Who knows!?) They tried to help by wiping it down, but it really needed a deep clean rather than a soiled rag, and unfortunately I don't think it was in the cards. Also, the bathrooms were absolutely hideous. I'm no manager, but when customers walk in to take a leak and are seeing liquid shit sprayed all over a bowl and seat, it's probably not so good for repeat business. Perhaps its time to look into fresh cleaning tactics and, in particular, a toilet brush of some sort. Finally, the tab was outrageously expensive, with the total coming to just over $40 for a very basic, and poorly executed lunch. Unfortunately the annoyances didn't end with the check. When I went to pay, I found out they don't take credit cards, only cash, something that was never disclosed prior to paying the bill. So, as I am ready to take off, I had to take a 10 minute detour and schlep over to the bank to get some loot. What an hassle. In the end, 2 stars is way, WAY too high for these guys. This place is truly one of the worst restaurants I've ever dined at in Westchester. It doesn't even deserve 1 star to be honest. read more

First, what is this cafe thinking treating it's customers like this??? People coming to downtown Scaradale for business don't want this type of service, I can assure you that. I came to Parkside Cafe on Friday morning on the way to a day-long meeting. I walked in at about 8:40 and, while the waitress acknowledged me, it was 15 minutes before I got my iced tea and I left without getting my blueberry muffin. When I tried my iced tea, it tasted off, as if it had been made with bad tap water or something. I was only able to drink a fee sips before I had to toss it out. What a waste of a nice cafe space along the train in Scarsdale - Scarsdale is supposed to be the "new" Westchester. This cafe does nothing to enhance Scarsdale. Have been coming to this diner for as long as I've been alive! The family that owns the place is extremely kind and friendly and the food is amazing! Always a good option for when you want any hot sandwiches. We always make the trek to Scarsdale just to come here to eat because we know it's going to be good. The coleslaw and sauerkraut are unmatched! Unfortunately we came in for lunch on Christmas Eve and were "greeted" by a hostess who was actually quite rude. She notified us that we'd be next in line for a table and there was a wait which is to be expected as it's a popular spot. In the past we've walked around and come back if the wait is long, so I asked how long it would be. You never know if the tables just sat and haven't been serviced it could be 30 mins but if people were wrapping up it could be just five minutes, so I figured I'd ask. She said fifteen minutes, I said okay we'll just pop next door and be right back. Wanted to say hi to a friend I saw literally next door... she proceeded to roll her eyes and tell me with a big attitude that "wellll I can't hold the table for you". Which is understandable, I just thought if it was fifteen minutes we could go next door for a minute to say hi. I didn't expect her to save a table for us but thought if it was a wait we'd be back within five minutes. Either way she could have said this nicely but that was not the case. She was not having us and never smiled and was just giving off an off putting vibe. As we were speaking a table was being cleared. She then told us well "if the people, who knows if they come back or not, if they don't then you'd sit like right now". But you could tell she was annoyed.. So we debated leaving, my family noted she was treating us poorly and didn't want to eat there... But I live for their sandwiches so I suggested we stay. She proceeded to go about her business answering the phone and then motioned for us to go to the table motioning with her wrist waving us over there quite exasperated.. I realized she was on the phone so she didn't need to say anything or converse with us but even eye contact would have been nice. Later a couple sat down at the bar and then after their interaction with her they left... just cus of the way she spoke to them ordering them to move over instead of just asking nicely. You walk in and expect to see Grandpappy and Meema whipping up their family's famous pancake recipe...except today it's Daniel and Jose. This Tuesday Morning was stop #2 on the Westchester Diner Tour for me and my bro and we were not disappointed. I had the pancake deluxe with scrambled eggs and bacon - everything was cooked with the proper amount of butter and lovin' and was very satisfying. My brother had the ole fashioned French toast and sausage and was not overly excited about it. He's a French toast snob and prefers Challah French Toast so we won't hold that against the good folks at the Parkway Cafe. Really great customer service. The staff is very friendly and provide a warm environment for the customers. The place is small, but I think that is part of the appeal. Even though they sell food, it is not a diner or restaurant - it's a small cafe. The prices are extremely reasonable. I came for breakfast - the banana pancakes are bomb. I mean they are worth coming for. Warm, and delicious. Not like an average diner's pancakes. They truly are amazing and worth coming back for alone. Everything else with my breakfast was good as well - except the bacon was a little dry kind of tasted frozen. But everything else was delicious. The chopped salads here are great. They serve coffee in all sorts of unusual mugs. Some of their omelettes are really good. Now There is a place nearby that this significantly cheaper with really good coffee and sandwiches that are petite. The café serves large meals probably to justify price. I Find I just do not eat there very much anymore but I would still go there if I have a friend who says let's eat there. It remains a sentimental favorite. You can't ever be assured of getting a table unless you go very early. Once you are seated if you're used to the diner I guess you just feel happy.
