Like I said, I have no problem with food itself, in most visits it was great. But the prices they charge you can be ridiculous sometime. Far from the best diner in Westchester but does the trick. I've been a few times over the years and it's never been terrible or exceptional. This time I had two poached eggs, ham and English muffin which is hard to mess up and my mom had a grilled cheese with tomato. My eggs were undercooked (completely runny yolk and even whites a little) but I think that's my fault for not specifying when I ordered. The waitress also offer to cook them longer. I declined but appreciated the offer. Service was accommodating and fast, maybe a bit rushed but it's understandable as it was busy and lunchtime. Sunday, around noon, myself and my wife stopped in to the Parkway Cafe for some late breakfast. We were seated immediately in the first booth. The decor is nostalgic diner style, with floor mounted diner stools, stainless steel accents and several photos of what appears to be the owners family members. My wife wanted blueberry pancakes and I thought I would get the same. Opening the menu was a sticker shock! Prices were extremely high, but we figured we were already seated and our hot tea was already on the way. We both ordered Blueberry pancakes, sausage, tea, and I added a side of scrambled eggs. ($34.75 before tip) Insane price for breakfast. Now, we don't spend on breakfast like that all the time, actually, I don't think I've really ever spent that much on breakfast, but at least the food was worthy right? Well... The eggs... I swear these were powdered eggs, the kind you get at hotel breakfast buffet. Don't get me wrong, they taste good, but at $3.50 for 1 egg (yes that is on their menu) I was expecting more. Also, the sausage patties arrived on our plates, bone dry and most definitely fried frozen without being thawed. The pancakes were packed with fresh blueberries and fluffy, but lacked any taste at all, no resemblance of flavor to be found. The included 'pancake syrup' was also little help, it tasted like watered down syrup. The menu noted that if you wanted maple syrup, it would be a dollar more. At the end, my wife added a small orange juice that undoubtedly tipped the bill over the $30 mark up to the said $34.75. In short, for that money, I should have rating this place with 5 stars and noting that while it's not for everyday, its worth it once in a while. Unfortunately, it was neither worth the cost, or worth returning. I have a feeling that you are paying for their prime real estate location rent, rather than real chicken eggs. That's one of the many reasons why I love the Parkway Coffee Shop. They do simple real well. Evey time I'm in the area I find it hard to resist the siren's call of their bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich (served of course on a poppy-seed roll). I suspect the rolls are from Arthur Avenue in Brooklyn, as they are perfect. The fried eggs always come out just as they should be; SLIGHTLY runny. The bacon is the ideal mix of fatty and crisp. Put it all together and you have the quintessential BE&C sandwich! All the other goodies there are are consistently excellent as well. Perfect pancakes, freedom toast, and bagels galore. The coffee and OJ are always spot-on, and the service is quick and efficient. All in all a great nostalgic spot to start ones day! read more

When you leave you feel like you bathed in oil. For a greasy spoon, they are missing things on the menu that are required by diners. The salads and sandwiches are not great, the omlettes are passable. Service is not unfriendly but they are so understaffed I have found that they make lots of mistakes, are are not attentive to you when you need things. There are far better diners in walking distance. The hours are wierd too- I don't think that they server dinner. read more

I used to love this place and their sweet potato pancakes. But this place has gone downhill fast. We came for breakfast and sat at the counter, like we've done dozens of times. Ordered the sweet potato pancakes. As we tried to talk to each other, noticed that the noise was really loud compared to the way it used to be. And that was all coming from the cooks and the waiters just loudly bullshitting to each other. So our pancakes came and we started eating. I happened to look up and saw one of the cooks picking his nose. Then I looked at the other cook and he was picking his ear. Then the first cook plated english muffins and the other cook put a bunch of bacon on the grill. Neither wore gloves. Then I turned to my friend who was also seeing what I was seeing. We put our forks down, paid the bill and left. I get that it's a local diner. Crowded. Loud. OK. But at least follow some basic, common sense rules like wearing gloves and not picking your noses or ears while cooking. read more

A diner that can't make good pancakes is an automatic no return for me. My son devours pancakes and he took 3 bites and was done. I tried them- dry, thick and tasteless. I had an omelet and it was fine- way too much cheese but they are generous with the avocado. Sure, the service is not that of a four star restaurant but you come here if you want diner food made better. The two short order cooks are great. Go sit at the counter and watch them work. They are real pros. I would recommend the omelets or the chopped salad (two of my favorites) but I really haven't had a bad meal here. It is small but there is a reason this place is jam packed on the weekends...apparently the loyal customers do not go on Yelp or the average rating would not be so low. It is the sort of thing that makes me have to think twice next time I rely on a Yelp review. If you want simple setting and a home cooked feel this is the place to go. I noticed many of the reviews were bad but I always believe in keeping an open mind. Well right off the bat, I got my answer. We came here around noon and the waitress had a RUDE attitude. As we were approaching her, she said "somebody is already ahead of you". Thinking we are deaf, she again shouted the same line "someone is already ahead of you". Talk about ugly inside and out. After her junkyard tone, we walked away. The PROPER non-gutter way of speaking is "how many are in your party?" and then tell the estimated waited time. I walked in and I said hello to the woman with short black and and she ignored me then I said hello to the gentleman that had my food he also ignored me. I left there completely perplexed. While my wife and family have been to Parkway for years, I've rarely gone and never considered it anything special. In fact, I recall one time the omelet being a bit too over cooked for my liking. However, a recent visit changed my opinion to make it a five star must visit from a simple egg sandwich. I ordered an egg sandwich with bacon and cheese on whole wheat toast. The waitress asked, "fried or scrambled" and I replied, "fried", expecting a well done hard yoke as usual from most places. Yet, this sandwich came out hot with the eggs still running and the cheese perfectly melted. Additionally, the toast was crisp and just right unlike the soggy bread I usually get when the egg steams the bread at most places. 5 stars to the short order cook at Parkway and I will be back! read more

Could give it 0 stars if possible! This is the worst restaurant I have ever been too. It was so horrible that I couldn't even finish my food. To begin with, no one greeted us when we came in although there were plenty of open booths and staff milling about. The waiter, loosely termed, plopped dirty menus at us and walked away. Came back later with an attitude to take our order and walked away. He returned with 1/2'empty glasses of the wrong beverages and was visibly annoyed when asked to correct the mistake. Food took forever to get. The two "cooks" were standing around horseplaying with the rest of the staff, one was even drinking. Waiter proceeded to empty the trash can in the dining area, about a foot from our booth, then served my son and husband while my daughter and I waited for food. Hers came about 5 minutes later, then about 5 minute later mine came. The first bite almost made me choke from the overwhelming vinegar In the chicken wrap, which was mostly arugula and little chicken. Even if the food tasted good, I could not have eaten since I promptly lost my appetite upon seeing the pile of dirt and food left behind from the waiters emptying the garbage can. Fed up, we asked another waiter for the check since ours was nowhere to be found. Never once did he check up on us (mind you we were the only customers there). We were informed that they do not take credit cards and should go to the bank across the street! Awful!!!!!! Do not patronize this place. Sad for such a quaint part of town. read more

Kitchen Nightmare! I went there for breakfast with a friend. The only reason I didn't send my food back was I didn't want to make a scene. I ordered a western omelet with homefries. Everything was burnt. The homefries were black and burnt, the filling for the omelet was a black goo. Even the english muffin was burnt. I spent the whole time picking pieces of soot out of my food. The bill was $23 for two, I gave the waiter $30 and then he had the nerve to ask me if I wanted change back! Avoid like the plague! read more

We discovered the Parkway Cafe late in life....only last year! (;-) But we quickly became devoted fans. It is family owned and run in the old world tradition. The food is consistently superb (a rare quality anywhere, and we travel quite a bit.) While the lunch menu is varied and portions generous, we adore the breakfast foods, which are served any time of the day. The eggs, pancakes, French Toast, etc. are all top notch. We try to experiment with the large variety of options offered but as the Andy Omelette and Blueberry Pancakes are so exceptional, we find it hard to order anything else! Worth the trip! read more

After waiting for 45 minutes we approached her and she said she didnt write our name down. We decided to go inside and they seated us within 10 minutes but the order took over an hour. They been family owned for probably 50 pr 60!years and while every business may at times have some issues , The Parkway has always been consistent with the quality of their food and the hospitality of the owners/family that will greet you . There gourmet style omelettes and sandwiches and fruit pancakes that draws crowds from all over on the weekends are to die for. That's the only problem I see actually is the weekend draw but that's why they have been around for so long. BUT THE WAIT IS DEFINITELLY WORTH IT and yes I am a fan if you haven't guessed it already. I will also say that the hired help can be a little frantic at times but that's all part if this places character. read more

It's hard to say why their food is superior to some other places BUT to try it tells you it is. Simple and yet variety is the theme...comfort food with a gourmet flair. . Retro is the decor and family owned and operated for over 50 years and they greet you (sometimes when there not running crazy ) like you are family . The lines on the weekend let you know that they have something that you either needed to experience or something to come back for. Ask about the pictures on the walls and by the time your done listening you will feel like your part of their family. I give the food a 5 star for portion and flavor, and some variety. Service could be better sometimes but overall four star rating is definitely warranted. read more
